In this battle we take a stock Coyote engine vs a On3 turbo Mod Motor. The Coyote engine is becoming increasingly popular as a engine swap. Is it more cost effective to coyote swap your Sn95 or boost your stock Sn95 engine. The results of this battle is not even close.

I swapped my car for $4000 plus the engine. The series start to finish is all on my channel. All you need is an engine, $1900 for coyote control pack, 350 for a k member, 300 for fuel pump and c5 return regulator, 400 for headers, 750 for belt drive, $40 for spring perches, 100 for a pedal bracket. motor mounts transfer over, mid pipe and catback can be mated to the swap headers. The rest I spent on exhaust couplers and wires for battery relocation. I turned around and sold my 4.6 setup for 1500, so realistically it was the engine plus 2500 bucks.

The 3v motors get a bad wrap for a few reasons. But most of their issues are from lack of maintenance in the oil department. The last gen 3v in the Mercury and Lincoln at the end of production make almost the same power (5hp Ford claims)as the 4v units. These motors are dirt cheap. Find one that had regular oil changes and you will not likely have phaser issues and it is likely at this point the bad plugs have already been replaced.

I agree. With a stock gen 1 Coyote you're starting off with close to stock Terminator territory. That's with zero additions. This concept is really pretty simple. I couldn't imagine daily driving a coyote swapped Fox/SN95/NE and then having any form of boost. HOWEVER, as much as I love the sound coyotes make, there is nothing that compares to the iconic sound of the supercharged 4.6 4V. In my opinion. Not even the hellcat, not even CTS-V's or the Vettes etc etc.

I think thought to actually compared these you MUST include EVERYTHING needed to get there. Coyote or 4.6 2v. Basically it's like cherry picking.
I'm not against the 2v, they are fun motors. Still debating pulling my 2v NPI to throw in my 79 Pace Car. Lol.
But, if your going to do a "cost per hp" comparison. You have to include the fuel system and drivetrain. The drivetrain could be considered a "bonus" cause you do not have to put a clutch, Trans, gears ect. To actually complete the Turbo setup, but you do need fueling. Also on top, you need to include a tuning setup. You can't just slap a on3 turbo and it instantly makes 450hp. You need tuning.
Personally, I think your close but once you add all the necessary stuff on both sides, you'll find the Coyote is a great cost option.
Your building a 2v, or going to a stock Coyote. Either way, it's gonna be a fun ride. And this is coming from someone with a 4v Cobra.

As a builder, it’s important to stay on top of what’s new and what people want to build to be successful. As good as the Coyote is, It’s physical size is huge in relation to its displacement and at what power level do you exceed its strength start to expose the weak points? I’ll go out on a limb and say there are a few stroked Windsors out there with enough compression and cylinder head to outrun a coyote without the added fuel system and ignition. When do you step back and put in a conventional small or big block?

The 5.4 4V holds the standing mile world record 300.4 mph.

I’m not knocking your thing here brother, they haven’t even scratched the surface as far as development for these things yet. There is 1 truth though that you really don’t have an argument against and it’s the same one that shadows the LS engines from GM and the Gen 3 Hemis from Chrysler. The bore centers are too close, the deck isn’t tall enough and there’s only so much room in there before your only options are Boost or adding a second engine. It’s not as bad a hinderance in the fords with multi valve heads but it’s the LS’s Achilles Heel.

I was going to swap a coyote in my 03’ Marauder. I found a good deal on a brand new Gen 3 short block (never taken off the crate from Ford). Sourced the top end from a ‘20 F150. I found a low mileage 10r80 from a Mustang and dreamed of playing with Scat Packs on the way to the grocery store. I knew this would be a little more than I could handle so I sourced a reputable shop and found a really good one. I dropped the engine off at the shop for them to assemble and prepare the installation. After they tallied up all of the main things, it was cheaper to either do a 3-2-1 or get a Gen 2 long block. The harness and headers were a big expense outside of my initial investment and labor (about 4k). I couldn’t justify that in my head. I then started looking for a Terminator motor (it just about swaps right in with very little modification, if using the stock supercharger pulley bracket). I found one and decided to go that route. I put the parts on FB market place and if it doesn’t sell, I have a fox body that the engine can go into.

Amount of money needed to build a 400 hp sbf would be a coyote swap, plus like you said you can boost it up to 700-800 hp without major changes. That sbf would need so much more to survive. Mod motors aren't much better imo.

I'm not saying a 150k motor is junk but I wouldn't want to put that in my 32k mile mint car. Especially a truck motor with the way it makes its power. I would at minimum want a used mustang motor and tear it down and go thru it. Everything adds up super quick and its close to 20k. I would love to eventually build my 4.6 to handle power but until then I want to do the 2.3 whipple kit. For under 6k you can get everything you need and its proven. I know of a 418hp 2v with just the on 3 kit that was going 10.7 with a bad synchro in the trans. No suspension or other mods. I think the turbo might be a little too complicated for me especially since I want to keep my rear duals. I did my coyote swap into my 83 ford ranger for 10k. Thats every nickle and dime part. Is the truck a show winner, no. Is it fast? Hell yeah. The most expensive part in my whole swap is the transmission and I got it used for 3500 with the clutch so there is some luck involved but its doable. You just have to know how and when to be cheap and when not to be.

You can swap rods in just about any 4.6 or 5.4 and make virtually the same power as a gen 1,2 or 3. I currently got a couple 4.6’s and 5.4’s two and four valves. The weak spots in the 4.6 and 5.4 were the rods. The yotes do have better factory rods. In truth though if you not trying to make over 5-600hp you really don’t need the rods IMO.
Now that said. I also got A LOT of sbf stuff. I fucks with the sbf stuff HEAVY 😂!

Look, car culture is dead and has been for years. Nothing cool enough, nothing with a soul, has been released in over 10 years so the new younger generation hasn't had a real reason to be interested, every vehicle looks like a generic round bubble now. They'd rather play "car builder" on a computer.
Building speed and going fast has been done to death, now that you can buy a turn-key 10 second car with A/C.. out of a dealership, again they have no reason to care to create anything.
Buy what you like personally, that's all that's left.. no chance I'd pick a Coyote 5.0L over a 4.6L. The latter sounds infinitely better going down the road.
