    Trying to recapture the past, just with lesser quality. Digital Studio Workstations of the late 90s were pretty powerful, e.g. Roland VS-1680 had a big internal screen with 320x240.

      Lol are you kidding? Look at the size difference ffs. You must be joking if you call the Roland “portable”. I mean, sure you can take it with you, but it’s not gonna fit in a backpack full of shit or a small travel luggage.

      @@AshtrayAnnie I did not call a Roland VS portable, if you care to read my original comment. I said those MTs were more powerful and had much better audio quality. Comparing my Roland VS-880EX with my Zoom R8 for that matter.

      A VS880 is portable enough, though, and can be switched to CF card.

    I'll ask this question again since no one addressed it earlier. Can this recorder sync to external gear? And I'll extend that question. Why did Zoom give up putting a midi-out on its gear? Midi via USB is a cop out. Including an actual midi output would be the answer to the earlier question. I'm a big fan of Zoom. I own a lot of your gear. Really confused by this omission.

    i don't understand why the R12 and R20 were changed to only allow looping in playback by copying and pasting further measures, thereby repeating your recorded measures in the 1st region. i don't want to create a timeline for a whole song until i mix down. why did Zoom get rid of the R8 ability to loop measures continuously in playback?

    The thing is certainly interesting and inexpensive - but in fact we see the evolution of the mixer to the computer. I wonder why - why manufacturers do not produce compact laptops with a good built-in multi-channel card high-quality DAC A/D converter) with microphone and Hi-Z inputs and outputs to the monitor and powerful DSP processors (vocals, guitar, etc.) and touch screen - in a compact design. (13 inches). Such a system combined with software would eliminate the need for other compact digital mixers and portastudios. Are there such systems on the market?

    • @Usul
      @Usul Рік тому +3

      @@ericanderson7059, Editing music tracks can be a precise business. Moving or cutting a track at the right moment might mean you need to line up two tracks exactly to the beat. Using a touch-screen, especially a small one, to line up audio clips in a multi-track recording would be quite frustrating. Having a physical knob to turn would allow the precision necessary to adjust values to exactly line up clips. This video shows everyone doing it with giant meat sticks (fingers). If you could plug in an external physical control surface, that would be great.
      I really want a product like this and only a company like Zoom could make it affordable. Sadly, this doesn't quite cut it. I am looking for an 8 track stereo multi-track recorder (record all tracks simultaneously) with an interface similar to this, but with the precision to actually finish tracks and mix down for a fast DAWless workflow (on-board compressor/limiter, multi-band compressor, mastering EQ, etc.). The dream would be 8 stereo tracks with the workflow of analog, but the precision and power of digital.
