No such thing as a bad Blind Guardian album. Every time I listen to them it reminds me of why I fell in love with them.

I didn't like that you put A twist in the Myth on last, but then I remembered that it is a tier list of Blind Guardian and there is no "bad album tier" just from great album to masterpiece 😁

Nice! One of if not my all time favorite bands. I did a ranking quite a while ago, but not sure if I will do another one now with the new album. Anyways, here is my ranking (pretty much love every single one, so even the albums near the bottom I still rate very high):
    11. A Twist in the Myth
    10. Battalions of Fear
    9. Beyond the Red Mirror
    8. The God Machine
    7. A Night at the Opera
    6. At the Edge of Time
    5. Follow the Blind
    4. Tales from the Twilight World
    3. Nightfall in Middle Earth
    2. Somewhere Far Beyond
    1. Imaginations from the Other Side
Cheers man, love seeing your ranking!

Pretty great list! Personally, I'd switch God Machine and Edge of Time (or even put Edge of Time at the top, it's one of my personal favorites), but otherwise I think our views agree.

Nightfall being my first ever Blind Guardian song back in Sophomore year kindled my love for them. The Curse of Feanor later started to pique my interest in the album as a whole, then I started to want more context as to what happened. I bought the Silmarillion and although I haven't finished it, these songs are more impactful and they never fail to make me emotional. I can say without a doubt, Blind Guardian is in my Top 5 bands.

    For me it would be:
    Favourite: Somewhere Far Beyond
S: Tales from the Twilight World, Nightfall in Middle-Earth, Imaginations from the Other Side
A: A Night at the Opera, At the Edge of Time
B: Batallions of Fear, Follow the Blind
C: A Twist in the Myth, God Machine
Least Favourite: Beyond the Red Mirror
I'm not much into the more prog stuff they did in the last two albums, though At The Edge of Time is an excelent album from their recent stuff. I also keep changing my favourite album often, it could be any of the S tier ones. Just love this band, looking forward to see them live for the second time in Summerbreeze Brazil in less than one month 🤘

God Machine seems to be a quite good album but I always listen to a new one a few months before I make up my mind. Sometimes I exaggerate due to initial excitement, and sometimes I simply don't get the songs for a long while.
Great list as usual. My fav will most likely always be Imaginations.

I wouldn't rank any of their album as C personnaly.
The God Machine next to Imagination From The Other Side, is well deserved because i felt the same, more than 20 years ago, when listened to it for the first time... no need to say, their new album hit a sweet spot for me.
Personnaly, i would have ranked A Night At The Opera S+
It's not my favorite album as i'm a huge fan of Imagination From The Other Side style of music, but this is their most outstanding work to me. It needs to be listened more than once at to enjoy the full potentiel and every details, but this is a real rare masterpiece.

When it came out, I did not like Legacy of the dark lands. It was just weird to hear Hansi singing something orchestral. Blind Guardian are one of the best that power metal has to offer alongside Helloween, Angra, and Running Wild. They have a mostly consistent discography, so here would be my ranking:
S - Tales from the Twilight World, Somewhere Far Beyond, Imaginations from the Other Side
A - Follow the Blind, Nightfall in Middle-Earth, At the Edge of Time, The God Machine
B - Battalions of Fear, A Night at the Opera, A Twist in the Myth
C - Beyond the Red Mirror
D - Legacy of the Dark Lands

I'm a Thrash fan, so I enjoy their first two albums since they are a bit on that spectrum. I've been meaning to give the rest of their discography a listen, I'm just not a huge fan of power metal that they've geared towards.

I discovered this band and Rhapsody this year. Both immediately impacted my top five of all time

    • @Siegdrifa
      @Siegdrifa 2 роки тому +1

Wich Rhapsody ? Since they split more than a decade ago, there is now 2 active Rhapsody band.
      1) Rhapsody of fire (ex Rhapsody : they had to change the name for legal reason)
      2) Turilli & Lione Rhapsody (ex Rhapsody, ex Rhapsody of fire, ex LT Rhapsody)
Both Rhapsody are great, but i have a preference for the one with Luca Turilli (main composer of Rhapsody).
Luca also made serval solo projects; King of the Notdic Twilight and Prophet Of the Last Eclips are great power metal à la Rhapsody.
Also, if you like Rhapsody for their heroic fantasy musique, listen to Twilight Force, it's pure win.

    • @AnonymousAnonposter

@@Siegdrifa Luca Turilli solo projects are great. I was a big fan of the band many years ago, but I kind of stopped following them, especially after these splits.
I recently started listening to Rhapsody of Fire again, but I didn't have time to check Turilli / Lione Rhapsody yet.

Blind Guardian is my favorite band, so there aren't any albums that I dislike or consider bad.
Imaginations From The Other Side is my favorite album, without any doubt.
And I may love The Silmarillion, but Nightfall in Middle-Earth is not in my top 5 favorite albums from the band.
A Twist in the Myth seems to have always been the weak link according to most fans, and yet almost all of the songs are great or iconic.
    My list atm would be:
1 - Imaginations From The Other Side
    2 - A Night at the Opera
3 - Tales From The Twilight World
    4 - The God Machine
    5 - Follow The Blind
6 - Beyond The Red Mirror
7 - At The Edge Of Time
    8- Somewhere Far Beyond
9- A Twist In The Myth
    10 - Nightfall in Middle-Earth
    11 - Battalions Of Fear
12 - Legacy of the Dark Lands
Somewhere Far Beyond placement really depends on my mood, in other situations it would be at the top of the list.

  • @passio-735
    @passio-735 2 роки тому +2

I love Blind Guardian and I could defend each and every placement on my list - I will refer from doing so because I know I'm already getting enough on your nerves as it is ;)
There's no bad Blind Guardian album so even my last pick I love quite a lot. Bur here it goes:
    12. A Twist in the Myth
    11. Battalions of Fear
    10. Follow the Blind
    09. Beyond the Red Mirror
    08. Twilight Orchestra: Legacy of the Dark Lands
    07. Tales from the Twilight World
    06. The God Machine [difficult to place yet but at the moment it would sit here]
    05. At the Edge of Time
    04. Somewhere Far Beyond
    03. Nightfall in Middle-Earth
    02. Imaginations From the Other Side
    01. A Night at the Opera
It might sounds biased because A Night at the Opera was the album that introduced me to Blind Guardian but I really do think it's their best one from start to finish. I also really really enjoyed the Twilight Orchestra. Every time I hear it I can't believe the 'hate' it gets. Honestly, I think a lot of people just gave up on that one too soon.
It would have ranked way higher if all the albums afterwards weren't so damn perfect ^^'

    • @Siegdrifa
      @Siegdrifa 2 роки тому

For your number 1, it was not my first Blind Guardian's album, and it is not my favorite either, but i also rank it 1 because the work is outstanding. The reason some people rank it low could be because it is the hardest of the album to apprehend.
Bling Guardian themself said they wanted to move away from this style a little because many people had a hard time to understand the music composition and needed multiple listening to get an idea of everythings going on.
Twilight Orchestra is a tricky subject ... i think many people were frustrated that there was no guitars and no drum.
From a musical point of view, this is a great fine work, and i'm sure that if it was a metal opera, it would have been different.
I think an important part of listening to music is to find a mood where the style your are listening to is fiting.
And the mood of Twilight Orchestra is so different from what Blind Guardian is usualy proposing that it antagonised a good part of their usual audiance.
It's unfaire for all the hard work put behind this album, and i remember Hansi and André being so poud of their work, a real dream come true where they invested tones of money.
But i think the marking screwed up; if they really wanted to release this as a non metal album, may be they should have made it a side project and not a full fledged Blind Guardian album.

    Live albums:
Tokyo Tales - a solid one, a good setlist, probably was a great show to see. But the songs are around the same tempo, all heavy, not slowing down a bit. Pretty hard to listen in one sitting, though played masterfully, B-tier.
Live - basically "The Greatest Hits" compilation. Hits hard af, Hansi sounds amazing on this one, not cheating too much like he often does. An easy S.
Imaginations through the looking glass - I love the DVD as much as the next guy. But the performance doesn't hit as hard, Thomen screwed up a bit of Another Holy War... However, Hansi's clean falsettos and not so standard opening are probably the reasons why it's still enjoyable and fresh as a DVD. As an audio playlist... B, can't place higher.
Live beyond the spheres - a chance to hear the great songs from ATEoT and TRM with a much more decent sound, plus the classic bangers proving they are still great after all those years! A, would have been an S if not for the drums sound. Seriously, what the hell is wrong with Frederic's drums all the time? Every time it's either he's too relaxed, or the sound is just kmp...
Imaginations ... Live - what's there to say. It's IFTOS, everyone loves it, the band shows they are great. Old classics with fresher sound. But MY GOD, FRED! Was he tired? Did he sleep that month? Buy the poor bloke a coffee, he sounds like he's about to fall asleep. Approximately forever. Bottom B, still enjoyable in a way.

As much as I love the 2006-2015 albums, Hansi sounds AWFUL on those. Overcompressed plastic voice, no dynamic, nothing that resembles this powerful voice he CAN deliver live! That's why TGM was like a gasp of fresh air. Also it's an album referencing books by Rothfuss, Gaiman, and Sapkowski, my personal reasons to love it :D

  • @Marley7919

The only good compilation there is is "The Forgotten Tales". New versions of the songs plus the undying hits. THe box set and the Memories abomination is just another reminder why their audio mixing/mastering was a mistake. The sound is dead, completely, everything sounds unnaturally even and boring. Yeah, nice, some frequencies added, and The Script has a nice outro for some reason, cool. Why did it have to sound as if they're still students struggling to record a well-mastered album and weren't just working with choirs and orchestras?
