As a 21 year Veteran as a Euphonium player in the Army Bands, I TRULY appreciate this. Many might think something like Festival Variations is limited to the premier bands, but fun fact: 82nd Airborne Division Band Commander CW5 Doug Hammond (Retired) made this his GO-TO piece for many of our performances including one special occasion on field during a high-level change of command back in 1998 when I was there. I also remember being inspired by US Army Band Euphonium player Don Palmire as he offered to mentor me and give lessons privately, an awesome performer and an epic event organizer as, I finally obtained my C1 status and became a member of the Army Ground Forces Band. I was at the 82nd in 98-2000 and served alongside a then young SPC Scott McKenzie contemplated pursuing an Officer packet. He is now a LT COL I believe. Truly an honor and so many memories hearing this presentation and reminds me of so many memories. Thank you and keep them coming. 😎
Love low brass music. As a former tuba major years ago I can appreciate the time it took to perfect your playing abilities. My father was in the US 2nd Army Band in the 50’s. He played bass clarinet and bagpipes.
Patrick nailed the excerpts. He played everything exactly to what’s on the page. Very consistent with wonderful fundamentals. He sets the standard just like Dr. Bowman. I believe he won another premier job if I’m not mistaken. Any band is lucky to have and retain him.
You have these wonderful videos of excerpts for all the brass instruments... but none for Tuba? Y'all need to get on that so I can share with my students!
It's one of those solos that seems easy on paper, but the intonation can be tough, as you hear any issues easily. It's not the hardest solo ever, but 2nd suite is such a popular piece that every Euphonium player should know it like the back of their hand.
Why is it so funny to me that there are professional military horn players? They don’t match the field anymore and signal route changes or changes of intention. Idk it’s cool as decoration.

Great story-thanks for sharing and for your service! We really enjoyed having LTC McKenzie and wish him the best at his new assignment.
@@ArmyFieldBand OUTSTANDING. Thank you and much respect!
This amateur clarinet player salutes these fine musicians for making even the most difficult music sound effortless.
Its not that hard its mostly high school level
The euphonium soli during The Melody Shop is simply beautiful.
I had the Solo from March in Second Suite (the first one) as part of audition music for the top band group in my school.
As a slightly above par sophomore euph player. These players set a great standard for me to try and achieve. Also, great playing guys🤘
I'm very "par" sophomore euph player, fun instrument, I love it
That Schoenberg excerpt was particularly awesome with those intervals. Great video!!
Thanks for watching!

I am a euphonium playing festival variations and it was really cool seeing a professional euphonium player execute that excerpt well
I'm not a euphonium player but I'm proud to have correctly guessed the first excerpt featured in this video at 0:38
Beautiful sounds.. that’s true Euphonium Excellence ..I love this.. great Masters

Excellent and inspiring!
It's difficult to tell that there are two instruments on the fast excerpt, and impossible on the slow one. Great playing!
Ragazzi ..sono un semplice bandito italiano da processione..è siete fantastici!!🎵🎵🎶🎼Holst!!

Carnevale di Venezia ..il mondo in musica 🎶 🎶 🎶
Ah, the euphonium, truly a marvel of brass engineering
I literally had the solo in second suite for a highschool concert I didn’t know it was considered expert
It’s definitely a standard on audition lists!
@@ArmyFieldBand Wait, standard!? What's beyond this?

i play both woodwind and brass (low brass) and i can say the euphonium is so easy but the hardest part about these pieces is the speed.
This is so awesome! I have been playing this horn for forever and it’s so cool to see y’all do this!
Amazing!
Excelente
Can you do a video on Most Popular Trombone Excerpts?

Great!!!!👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
good played. can you also make music?
that measure at 2:40 hates me, and I hate it
Holst Mars?
We’re saving that for later!
The Euphonium usually plays in treble or bass cleff?
Bass clef is the typical one, but the other clefs are definitely used from time to time.
Thanks!!
🙏🍒🙏🍒🙏
What mouthpiece do they use?
Parantucci pt-4b or the BB1
