In industry we would prune aiming to have the lowest cane as the one we would send up to the wire. Every cut made post lignification results in a desiccation cone. Grapes don’t repair themselves they just create this dry area to protect themselves from pathogens. Anyway you don’t want to use your top shoot because you’ll have the trunk of the vine covered in these scars which prevent sap flow giving you weaker vines.
When the vine is dormant cut it back as they are young the cane you leave need only have a few buds and then let it grow from there any extra shoots can be rubbed off when they come out preventing damage

@@BiancoLand_ no worries , if you want some clarification feel free to ask or I can make a video , we are about to start pruning here in the Barossa valley in about 2 weeks but the young stuff goes into dormancy a bit later so we prune that a bit later

Use a plastic bag 😂. Never buy something that’s sus like that 😂.
A plastic bag mimics a green house.
It may look ghetto at first but it’ll produce the thickest branch ever.

Next use a plastic bag. Preferably a clear garbage bag.
Cut a hole at the bottom.
Bottom = the direction for the vine top
The opening of the garbage bag = put it as close to the ground.
So when you need to prune via looking it through the garbage bag then cut it open or can just retape it. if you really wanted it to and inexpensive to replace like a couple cents without damaging anything 🤦‍♀️.
Generally the lowest canes or the most actively growing without fruiting.
Typically want to prune when they are dormant tbh. So it doesn’t kill the plant.

And if you want to redirect a vine in the bag.
Then cut a hole in the bag like on the side then put the vine through = not a messy displacement.
Think of it like punching a hole in the garbage bag with your arms to use a raincoat/protection.
Now apply this to the grapes 😂

And if you want them to latch on.
Use a cloth pin that doesn’t squish the plant and clip on the wire or bag = the plant will automatically hang on the stick/bag or wire.

Once they are able to self hang then remove everything = your dreamy project 😂.
The perrrfect T vines. Ngl they do look nice… if they ever go well like ever 😂

Brown leaves are caused by lack of nitrogen or too heaty/hot or lack of water.
