I've never read, or seen any adaptation of, Wuthering Heights, but if my mother's review is anything to go by, I think Emily Brontë would be crying with joy at this number.

Oh it's so so worth the read. I've read quite a few of the classics but none of them measure up. Emily Bronte created an incredibly human story.

I agree! I’m one of those people who likes the dark side of music; happy emotions can be less… complex to interpret or convey, and the emotional payoff of a well-done darker song is higher, for me.
And instead of making me sad, it makes me feel validated, because other people experience that emotion. It’s much needed music when done well, and that’s something Karliene is extremely good at. I still play The Dawn (really got us in the first half) most times I play my keyboard. There’s a kind of peacefulness that blends with the listlessness in deep loneliness that is hard to convey, and she captured it so well.
This song feels like a spiritual successor, (like how Become the Beast got its own!) just, this time, with a particular work in mind.

As someone who frequently experiences sadness and loneliness, The Dark Ones and Gloom are some of those "Oddly comforting" songs for me, along with Farewell Wanderlust by The Amazing Devil. It's the same about dark, gloomy art. It makes me feel something. This is because generally speaking, sadness, grief, remorse and anger are more powerful emotions as compared to sadness. :)
