    Shooting in high-speed sync (HSS) offers several advantages for photographers, especially in challenging lighting conditions or when seeking creative control over their images. Here are some reasons why you might want to shoot in high-speed sync:
    1. **Wide Aperture in Bright Conditions**: High-speed sync allows you to use wide apertures (such as f/2.8 or wider) even in bright daylight conditions. This is particularly useful for portrait photographers who want to achieve a shallow depth of field to isolate their subjects from the background while maintaining proper exposure.
    2. **Balancing Ambient Light**: In outdoor settings, high-speed sync enables you to balance the brightness of the ambient light with the intensity of your flash. This helps to avoid harsh shadows or blown-out highlights, resulting in more natural-looking and well-exposed images.
    3. **Freezing Motion**: High-speed sync allows you to use faster shutter speeds to freeze motion effectively. This is beneficial when photographing fast-moving subjects or capturing crisp details in action shots, ensuring sharpness and clarity even in challenging conditions.
    4. **Creative Lighting Effects**: High-speed sync opens up opportunities for creative lighting effects, such as overpowering the ambient light with your flash to create dramatic portraits or highlighting specific elements in the scene. This flexibility in lighting control allows you to experiment with different styles and techniques to achieve your desired aesthetic.
    5. **Versatility in Flash Photography**: Whether you're shooting indoors or outdoors, high-speed sync expands your options for using flash in various lighting scenarios. It gives you the flexibility to maintain consistent exposure levels and achieve your desired look without being limited by conventional flash sync speeds.
    Overall, shooting in high-speed sync provides photographers with greater flexibility, control, and creative possibilities in their images. Whether you're a portrait photographer, a wedding photographer, or someone who enjoys experimenting with lighting, high-speed sync can be a valuable tool in your photography toolkit.

      You're very welcome Chuck. It just changes the mood so much in the photo. Definitely not something I use too much but when it calls for it, it's always a "wow" moment for the couple. Thank you for watching!

    Great video Elmer. Most of the time that is the only way to keep the sky from blowing out. Good job. 👍

      Thank you, John! It really is just a great little tool to add to your arsenal. Definitely not something that we use all the time but when we do, it always gets a great reaction from our couples 🙌 Thank you for watching 🙏

    HSS with rear curtain shutter is a great look for action showing a motion blur...that would have been a great option for that Cyclist shot

    • @TNKPhoto
      @TNKPhoto  4 місяці тому

      Truuuuue! I don’t think Sony does rear sync (could be wrong, please correct if so). I did do a panning shot like you’re describing with another cyclist shoot where the background looked blurry/in motion. Great suggestion 🙌

    Could you use HSS with multiple flashes?

    • @TNKPhoto
      @TNKPhoto  4 місяці тому

      Thank you JonCris! That’s a great question! You can as long as all the flashes can do hss 😎 so two ad200s or 600 and tt685 would work

    Midday sun, ad200pro. Which light modifiers are usable in HSS?

    • @TNKPhoto
      @TNKPhoto  4 місяці тому +1

      Hey Garbid! I posted a video on midday sun with the ad200. It’s older so I plan on updating it but check it out below:
      ua-cam.com/video/hvHoBQCihzA/v-deo.htmlsi=rlhOVVl3zSATsKa4
      Distance plays into it. So if the flash is a lot closer then you can use something like a soft box or modifier. You can always Photoshop it out in post if you place it in the right spot. If it’s a wide shot, I usually don’t put a modifier because you’re not really seeing close-up details on the skin anyway. In the video, I explained a little bit of that and show some examples

    • @Garbid
      @Garbid 4 місяці тому

      @@TNKPhoto Thank you very much! What about for wide shots use just 2 ad200 with fresnel heads from too sides lets say at 5 and 7 o' clock. With difference let's say 2 stops. One as a key and second as a fill?

    • @TNKPhoto
      @TNKPhoto  4 місяці тому +1

      @@Garbid Two is definitely better than one to overpower the sun. However, it depends on how you want the light to be shaping your subject. Sometimes I have the light coming completely from the side if I'm having them look that direction. So for example, if I have someone on camera left, looking towards that direction, I may have my flash just outside of the frame and having the light(s) come from that side so there's a nice directional look. Remember that the direction of light will change the quality and mood significantly. If you have two flashes coming from similar directions next to you, it'll fill in for sure but it'll also be a bit more flat. But it's whatever you want it to look like

      Haha I always walk up to them and say “now, when your friends say it’s photoshop, let em know it isn’t 😂 “ then we show them the hss shot. They just look surreal! 🙌
