Great video as usual. This is only really relevant to the very beginning, but I'm a Jack Churchill nerd, so I thought I'd clear up a couple of things. 1). He was not Scottish. He was English, though born in Ceylon. He was, however, undoubtedly a Scotophile. 2). He only joined the Seaforth Highlanders after WWII in 1946. All his previous military service was in the Manchester Regiment (technically the commandos, but as they were a temporary wartime unit, the men remained with their original regiments on paper). 3). The picture you used when you mentioned bagpipes is not Churchill. That's a screenshot from the film The Longest Day, and features Pipe Major Leslie de Laspee playing the role of Bill Millin, who skirled his way up the beaches at the Normandy landings as the piper of Lord Lovat. Churchill himself wasn't a dedicated piper, he merely brought his pipes with him for the hell of it. 4). The Fleming in his name is debatable. All his military papers (Sandhust documents, army lists, etc.) omit Fleming, as does at least one of the books written by his brother (I can't remember the others). There are, however, various reliable sources that do have Fleming in his name. This is less a correction, more an interesting point.

You are certainly welcome. I like to consider pedantry an art form. Speaking of, there are a few things to mention in regards to your comment, and my original comment - there is always more to learn. Firstly, he wore a basket-hilted broadsword in combat in the second world war. During his prior military service, there is a picture of him wearing a sabre, but it is unknown whether or not he carried this during service in the Burma rebellion. Secondly, it has come to my attention that at present, the weight of evidence is against him killing anyone with his longbow. The only primary account is his own, in which he denies it. The war diary for the 4th Infantry Brigade does emphatically refer to some bow-related incident in the Saar, but gives no specifics, and it doesn't actually seem that Churchill was in the Saar during the war. It was certainly widely believed contemporaneously that the event happened, evidenced by the amount of people who have mentioned that it happened, but there are no accounts I am aware of from anyone who was actually present. The primary account of the event comes form Donald Featherstone's 'Bowmen of England', which does not deign to cite a source. Thirdly, the answer to the Fleming debate. Fleming was not in his name by birth, but it was adopted by him at some time during his adult life, before the second world war. It is unknown if he ever had it officially changed.
12:40 I'm convinced Skall is secretly a paladin wielding magically glowing swords quivering in the wake of its divine damage! Super awesome shot there!
Amazing sponsor, mate! That’s really impressive- what an honor! I remember that Fëanor sword- it was heartbreaking to hear how bad it actually was. For what it represented, and what it was meant to be, it was just so disappointing- it made me sad. And I have to say- I appreciate you being honest about your relationship with Glock. While most people are afraid to speak their true opinions when everyone else is in opposition to it, it’s important to be honest, and it shows courage and character when you do. Especially in such a public arena. I never liked Glocks, and had a lot of disdain and abuse thrown my way when I said so. I am a diehard Sig Sauer shooter, and will always sing their well-deserved praises. Glocks feel cheap and plastic-ky to me- I never became comfortable with the trigger safety, grip shape, or slide solidity- it always felt as if it were about to be shaken apart. Thanks for giving your honest opinions.
Disappointing Weapons? Sure. Disappointing video? Not at all. Love your content skall! I use what I learn here to avoid saying dumb stuff in my own vids
40 S&W do have some mixed results on feeding in my experience. I have an M&P that is quite fussy about the ammo it likes to feed. And I agree on the glock grips, not natural for my hands. Does sound like you got an extra fussy lemon of a Glock though.
@@secondswell I won't disagree that the bullet doesn't perform, but from a self-defense standpoint it's the platform that comes up short: shorter barrels and smaller frames. These limit velocity and capacity to where it's a toss up and in SD more capacity is generally better than penetration and the 9 wins. In a carbine with identical capacities? A .40 wins. A 10mm wins more. :D
Glocks can be fussy about their ammo they like to feed. I have a G19 and it fucking hates alluminum casings. one in every five or so shots will fail to load the round if I am using alluminum. Anything else it will feed with litterally no issue. Shot about 600 rounds through it and the only time it failed to feed was with the cheap ammo
@@sebastianriz4703 That's not the Glock. That's the actual casing causing the problem and it will do so in other firearms. Brass is the preference because it expands better than aluminum and steel and creates a seal so you aren't losing gas and therefore pressure+velocity. Basically you are losing back pressure with the aluminum casing which is causing the slide to not function the way it should.
Awesome sponsor! I'm loving that the museum is modern and savvy enough to find such a great place to advertise such a cool exhibit. If I lived nearby I'd definitely go and see it.
sheath that locks shut over the part where the knife handle and axe-head meet could work i suppose. multiple use tools often have parts that can be augmented with add-ons, its not just a gaming term :P
The survival hatchet still has potential; perhaps make the knive bit slightly longer, with a diffent profile, and grind ... Likewise the axe bit could again would, with a slight tweak to the grind. Another tweak is what metal it was made up off; perhaps the reason why it failed was (perhaps ... maybe ...) poor edge retention, such as it it was made of D2, or similar, it coulda been better. Likewise -- and this I am pulling outta my own butt -- forge-welding 1080, 1094, and 15N20, but skipping the acid etch stage, would produce a 'clean-looking' blade, but with the associated toughness and edge-retention that -- I think -- blades made that way have. Also, and again, this maybe out if my butt again, but prototypes often have to go through mutiple iterations before was can be considered 'successful' ... I am sure there are knife makers out there whom will take one look at the design, see the potentials, and the flaws, and would be willing/able, to iron out (pun intended ...) the problems you had to reach the tool you imagined ... Likewise, there is a sword I have in mind, that has the blade, and edge, geometry of a side-sword, but has the length, guard, grip, and pommel, of a small-sword, purely because, at 5'2", I would imagine carrying a long-ish sword would be rather awkward, especially as my hips have gotten bad in old age ... trouble is, I know it will take a decent swordsmith to pull it off, as designing something is one thing; building the bloody thing is very much another ...
If the knife part had a sheath it would allow you to hold it lower down which should make it easier to use as a hatchet. The sheath itself might be suitable for storing a flint stick or something akin to the mechanism of a flint lighter at the end so it could help with starting a fire and maybe wrapped with cord that could be unraveled if needed. And of course it would also be helpful as it would give you something to attach a loop to so you could hang the thing from a belt or put it around your wrist.
@@anthonyhayes1267 early production is much nicer, grip is more rounded. Late production is definitely blocky and uncomfortable, even for my wife hands.
Alternative for the Albion Kriegsmesser, Scholagladiatoria showed Messer made by Landsknecht Emporium. Edit: Congrats for the sponsor. It's pretty awesome.
Your first problem was buying a Glock in .40 S&W. Glocks are fine in 9mm, but they've had a lot of problems with their rechamberings over the years particularly when their .40 S&W Glocks had a habit of exploding.
@@DIEGhostfish you ever heard of a self-defence grenade? no? that's cuz they are the ultimate pacifiers, everyone goes happily home and there's nothing to write about in the paper.
Videos like this are definitely important, sometimes exposing the flaws of certain things is much better than "sweetening" the truth, not everything's perfect, there's real inferior and poorly-made products out there and telling what it's all really like saves a lot of folks time, money, pain and disappointment.
Congratulations on such a cool sponsorship, you've definitely earned it after all these years of making history content. Wish I could go see the exhibit!
Congrats on the sponsor, that is very cool. It shows on your face how excited and happy you are. Really enjoyed this list. As others have mentioned, seems to be an editing mishap around 8:00.
Greetings once again from nova Scotia, thanks for the great video, I respect your honesty and fairness you bring to the table. I have had the pleasure of visiting the National War Museum several times, I may suggest have you been to the Halifax Citadel, it's a fantastic place, my grandfather's kilt and rifle from ww1 was donated by my dad many years ago, is part of the vimmy ridge display, that's enough of that, be safe, be strong and as always best regards,Arthur
Note how none of the swords mentioned had a scewable pommel. Even if he himself doesnt state it.. in his unconciousness he realized that no sword that had the option to end someone rightly could ever turn out to be a disappointment :D
This is the best sponsorship I've seen on UA-cam and I've been addicted here since before a single channel had a million subs and how to be ninja was the biggest thing
I like this video! It’s really a service to warn us of items you purchased (besides your own creation) and take with a grain of salt should we actually have the idea of buying one of these items. We need more videos like these to not only help buyers make better purchase decisions but also the makers to make improvements if they really value customer feedback.
Nice video. I will say though, I think entry #5 got a little clipped in the edit. Also, I, for one, really enjoy when you ramble, so don't stress there. Impressive that you could put yourself on the line with the Skall Crusher. A lot of people would just sweep that under the rug. And AWESOME that you landed a sponsor with such prestige! Way to go, Skall!
That would definitely be worth watching. I loved Highlander back in the 90's, but to see it where the historical weapons were being used historically, not what a stunt coordinator though looked cool, would be awesome!
I'll have to say, Glocks do tend to be super reliable, but I agree with you completely about the grips, I absolutely hate the hand feel, I personally really love the 1911 style grips
Hey Skall, the text for the comment on the extra bendy rapier being an impressive sickle blade shows up for a split second at 14:06. This video really is cursed. xD
I actually like the Skall Cleaver. If you replace the knife blade with a longer single edged blade, you get a hookless version of the Chinese Shuang Gou or Tiger Hook Sword. All you need to make it a hatchet is a secure scabbard as a handle XD
Wow. I LOVE the creativity in your own design here, Skall. Even if it did make it on this particular list, lol! I can honestly say that I've never seen anything quite like it. Cool video :)
As an owner of a Glock 35 I fully agree with you. It's waaay too snappy and the grip feels like I am trying to hold a brick. Now my fave gun is a Bersa Firestorm in .380...I friggin love that gun. Feels like it was molded just for my hand and I can shoot it all day.
Hey Skall, you should review that no-name Han Dynasty sword on KoA. It’s sort of famous for being pretty high quality(and sharp) for a sword that only costs around 200 bucks. If you go to the Chinese section, it’s in the first row, all the way on the right.
I would like an overview view of a Kanabo. This weapon has always interested me because it's possible major effectiveness it has on armor. As well its defensive capability.
This was a fun list. What you said about the firearm was spot on. I feel the same way and we're not alone in wondering if they were made for human hands. Luckily, there are lots of other brands out there.
Congrats on the Sponsor there @Skallagrim. as kind of a some what pistol novice from what I have handled and what I own, I would say a Sig 229 or a 220 for your hands would have been a better choice, 9mm would have also been better since you can buy 9mm really cheap; and you can find it almost anywhere. But that is my two cents toasted into the ring. o7
@@briandamage5677 they're fairly hit or miss. Especially when they were originally brought to market. Theres some instances where gen 3 guns especially were having catastrophic failures for issuing police departments. The guns were designed around 9mm, if you have a choice, that's what your small frame Glock should be.
For the G34 switching to an aftermarket barrel has helped with the failure to feed issue with the few I have worked on with that problem. The barrel/slide geometry during the compression of the recoil spring can sometimes be the culprit.
Honest opinion, Glocks are excellent pistols, it’s just all the other companies have gotten so much better that Glock’s flaws are more noticeable than say the 90s
@@CMG78 to be honest, I never fired an other pistol than an usp (P8) but as far as my experience with the P8 goes (that's the military variant of the USP used by the German military) it's pretty reliable. I can't remember that I saw one jam on a fellow recruit during my basic training and with so many first time shooters around minor "errors" like limpwristing or not holding it perfectly straight are to be expected. Also the weapons used in basic training units are probably heavily used, not exactly treated gently, parts might end up on the ground next to the mat used for disassembly drills rather that on the mat at times and during the very first drills without ammo or with dummy rounds magazines are dropped constantly. None of the superiors ever complained about the weapon and its easy to disable and reasamble. I also like it's look and the safety and decocking lever system on it (if you look it up on Wikipedia it's the variant 1 or 2).
Here's a weapon that won't disappoint - the sharpened stick-spear! Just find a straight sapling, or branch, that's 1 to 2 inches thick, and anywheres from five to ten feet long, cut it down/off, figure out how long you want it, shorten it, and then sharpen it. Nothing fancy, and while I doubt it will do any good against someone wearing armor or an exceptionally angry bear/boar, you still have something that's got a point that can poke someone's eyes out!
Ok, dumb question is truly dumb, since I know rather more about bolt-action calibers than pistol ones ... What is the difference between a 10mm and a .40 S&W ...? Reason why I ask is that I follow people like Hickok 45, MAC, and one or two others, and the consensus I hear from them is that if you are going to go for a 10mm for, say, home defense, rather than a CCW (a .45 S&W or .45 ACP(?) seems to be the better option for that ...), then a Glock 20 or 40 is the better option ... in, fact, some opinions I have heard/read that the only really good Glock is a 20, or 40, in 10mm ... but that maybe my bad memory, and/or their bias ... But like I said, I don't know that much about pistol calibers to make a really more educated comment between the pros and cons of 10mm vs .40 vs .45 (as you now doubt already have noticed ...) So to help a total noob, could you break it down, or point to a video(s) that can help me wrap my head around it ... Many thanks.
@@nigelft there's no difference other than capacity, they all kill people the same, defensively speaking. If you are talking of going handgun hunting or defense against animals, a 10mm is going to be better than the other two but NONE of them are very good at bear defense as none of them are true magnums, no matter what the 10mm fanboys try to tell you it isnt anywhere near a .41 magnum in power. People argue over stupid marginal shit when it comes to handguns, but the reality is that there is no difference in lethality for any caliber in the spectrum between .380acp and 10mm when looking at actual shootings of other humans, when looking at all the calibers that fall in that range they all have a 50% lethality ratio. This means that no matter the caliber you have around a 50% chance killing someone with a single shot. You dont get into stopping power until you start using rifles and shotguns, handgun calibers of all sizes are pretty crap at killing people in comparison
@@nigelft .40s&w is a shortened 10mm, that's where the joke comes from .45 works just as well as 10mm but is much cheaper, 9mm is fine too, but having a powerful 10mm can be fun sometimes
@@nigelft My EDC is a Glock 29 in 10mm. I can tell you from experience that nowaday's standard factory 10mm ammos have been watered down so much they are not that much more powerful than that of a .40 S&W. To answer your question, both .40 S&W and 10 mm use the same diameter bullets and many times the same weight, the .40 S&W is 1/8" shorter in case length and therefore contains lesser powder and slightly lesser powerful. That being said, both can kill very effectively.
@@nigelft 10mm is more powerful than .40. It's kinda like the difference between .308 and .30-06. But most modern 10mm is pretty significantly downloaded compared to the original specs. You need to go to someone like Buffalo Bore to get original loadings.
Ah a sword named after me greatest elf to ever have lived in Arda. The Fëanor sword pisses on my grave! Great video skall, I will definitely visit that museum if I come up and visit again. I went to Ottawa last year from the U.S. I just wished I knew about the museum. Once again great content can’t wait until next time!
Agreed on the Glock 35. I do security in New Orleans, and this sidearm is a pain in the ass. I found the Kahr 45 ACP is great! Extended magazines and all. Great feel and easy to handle. Smooth action everytime, even when doing competition shooting after 90+ rounds. The 9mm from Kahr is also great
For the skallcleaver, its kinda like the functions of a kukri without the great design of a kukri. Good concept, but separating the axe and knife would be awkward compared to uniting it
No rage here. Glocks blow. You want reliabilty? Get a 1911. Even clones are reliable af. My Taurus PT1911 has over 3k rds through it without a single malfunction.
I've done a fair amount of semi-competitive shooting over the years and I've never cared for Glocks either...outside of their general reliability I've never had much positive to say about them. They just don't handle well for me and I haven't ever been able to get very comfortable with them. I've shot just about every frame size they offer in 9mm, .45 ACP, GAP, .40s&w etc and have never wanted to own one. I love my 1911's though, excellent platform but their reliability out of the box can be iffy depending on the manufacturer. Luckily they're easy enough to "tune-up" to reduce the common malfunctions so there's that.
Yeah, high end ones with super tight tolerances are a problem. People think even a little "slop" in slide/frame fit is bad, but its actually better than a tight fitting custom job. With the mag out mine has a bit of play between the slide and frame, but thats a good thing. It allows debris to have less of an effect on function. A tight fit can stovepipe if even a speck of debris get in the slide rails. There is a reason SpecOps still carry the 1911 today. Over 100yrs and its still a coveted weapon. Mr. Brown definitely got the design right with this pistol. I will be buried with mine, literally lol. I love it!
When it comes to Glocks and how they feel in the hand, I have a point of view; A Glock is like playing with your cousin's ****. It's still **** but it ain't right.
Put "Top" in front of "10" and watch the views skyrocket. Also, congrats on that awesome new sponsor. It does make me want to check out the museum if I ever visit Ottawa.
Congratulations on the sponsorship mate, you definitely deserve it!! Small correction Jack Churchill wasn't actually Scottish, he was from Ceylon(Sri Lanka). love your vids though, keep up the good work!!
Was super surprised to see a gun on the list! Wasn’t surprised when it was a Glock. They’re notorious for being rather terrible unless you invest in all of the aftermarket stuff and essentially rebuild it. I imagine you’ve gotten a different one since then but I’d recommend FN they make magic!

40 S&W do have some mixed results on feeding in my experience. I have an M&P that is quite fussy about the ammo it likes to feed. And I agree on the glock grips, not natural for my hands.
Does sound like you got an extra fussy lemon of a Glock though.
With current bullet technology there's barely any reason to have .40S&W over a 9mm.
@@weege5.45 barely but there is still a reason if you want a heavier bullet 40sw may have fell out of the tacticool limelight but it not a bad round.
@@secondswell
I won't disagree that the bullet doesn't perform, but from a self-defense standpoint it's the platform that comes up short: shorter barrels and smaller frames.
Basically you are losing back pressure with the aluminum casing which is causing the slide to not function the way it should.

your survival hatchet just needs a good sheath for the knife part.
Lacks a pommel, but you could always add that to the sheath... wait things aren't supposed to be like that
sheath that locks shut over the part where the knife handle and axe-head meet could work i suppose.
multiple use tools often have parts that can be augmented with add-ons, its not just a gaming term :P
@@metalk1tt3n Bingo, and once again I say the sheath can have a pommel that can be unscrewed and used to hammer stuff if needed

I like this video! It’s really a service to warn us of items you purchased (besides your own creation) and take with a grain of salt should we actually have the idea of buying one of these items. We need more videos like these to not only help buyers make better purchase decisions but also the makers to make improvements if they really value customer feedback.

Nothing fancy, and while I doubt it will do any good against someone wearing armor or an exceptionally angry bear/boar, you still have something that's got a point that can poke someone's eyes out!
the problem with the glock was that it was chambered in .40 short and weak
But like I said, I don't know that much about pistol calibers to make a really more educated comment between the pros and cons of 10mm vs .40 vs .45 (as you now doubt already have noticed ...)
So to help a total noob, could you break it down, or point to a video(s) that can help me wrap my head around it ...
People argue over stupid marginal shit when it comes to handguns, but the reality is that there is no difference in lethality for any caliber in the spectrum between
.380acp and 10mm when looking at actual shootings of other humans, when looking at all the calibers that fall in that range they all have a 50% lethality ratio.

I love it!
