Mowing HEAVY brush and small trees with a 1967 Ford 3000 diesel and a J BAR brush mower. Fall line ridge, tractor, J Bar, mowing, brush hog, rotary mower, heavy brush, homesteading.
The author does like to from scratch, ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxbnOKZBE4evMO5V2vroHeCjq6d_MV6wJO shaping and trimming wood from large blocks into fine finished products. As another reviewer mentioned, most projects require a lot of high-dollar equipment that most of us don’t have the room or budget for. But, knowing how to do these things, even if we won’t be able to practise the full stack project, is still great.
Thanks for sharing!!! I really enjoy these videos with a good mix of tractors working and some talking about projects. I am recovering from a surgery and I can't go do any of my projects for awhile until Doc clears me to run equipment.
I have a Ford 3600 with a HD Woods Brushbull attached. Beast. A- Consider slowing down, B- Yanking a saw out of a pinch like that is going to tear the rubber mounts and/or pull the bar mount studs loose from the crankcase. Just use a wedge in the kerf and life will be easier. Love the drone footage from high above.
I am always amazed seeing brush cutters in action. That's the next bit of equipment I need because I have reached the limit of what I can barrel over in an old sacrificial riding mower.
Dad traded in the 8N for a 1966 4000 gas with a split grille like yours back in the early '70s. 4000 tested at around 47 pto hp and the 3000 at around 39 per TractorData. Good old tractors!
Nice one Wes! I've mentioned before how much I love that Ford 3000! Every time I hear you start yours up, it reminds me of the great days I had driving one here in the UK in my Teens! Stay safe & well. 👍👍
I love old Ford tractors I started out on a 19 48 Ford 8 n it was my great grandfather's an I still have it today an it runs an drives I use it to plow an disk my garden an plow snow an pull logs for fire wood I'm looking for a brush hog for it
I for one, LOOOOOOOOOOOOOVE that good ol' FORD tractor!!!! Whenever I see it, it brings I smile to my face much like seeing 'soft batch' chocolate chip cookies!
Regarding how you handled that oil on the gear and so many other issues you came across. I would have addressed those in the same way. Great to see some sensible down to earth practical resourcefulness! 👍
If I had my choice of upgrading to a bigger tractor that would be the one, I would even settle for gas or diesel. The Kubota would be my next choice. Ford made some good tractors back in their day.
Oh how I love those Ford tractors! A mid 60s 3000 diesel is what I learned on. Few things at that time could make a 12yr old boy happier. I loved bushogging and if given the opportunity today I would probably love it just as much as I did almost 50yrs ago. thanks for sharing,it brings back alot of happy memories!
That "JBar brush exterminator" doesn't stop at anything !! Seems to do a great job !! I like how you upgraded the retainer pin to a beefier model !! That one shouldn't get bent so easily !! Thanks for sharing and say " Hi" to your son and heir !!
Wow, that was a lot of flies in the pig pen. Maybe stringing up a really hot fence and letting the pigs root up some of the brush would kill two birds with one stone.
Where I live in Thailand they use old 3000s and similar to haul boats in and out the beach every day. the condition of them is amazing lol even seen one the front axle bar fell off and for the past 6 months just held on by twisted wire lol
Great shots with all the angles. I’ve had great success when cutting down sweet gums immediately after the cut I paint the freshly cut stump with concentrated glyphosate. Tractor Supply brand. If you wait too long the stump will heal over and it won’t work. This works great on any freshly cut hardwood that would otherwise send up new growth. I keep an old paint brush, gloves and glyphosate in my utility box on the back of my tractor. Hang in there.
Hearing that motor hum Took me back forty plus years to the hayfields and pastures on my papaw's place. Bout near cried. That taught me more about being a man than any growing up I did in my own. That old 2000 and I were very familiar with each other and the title is right. These will still be rolling when today's throw away tractors are growing rust. Last thing those pigs need a wallowing hole. it won't help with the flies but it'll help THEM with them. GB Keep up the good work!
I'm confident that this tractor will outlast my shiny new Kubota. It's just unkillable. The pigs have a waller, It was just in need of water during this video. It got about 20 gallons this morning before the heat of the day.
@@falllineridge Oh, ok. Another suggestion. Make their pen big enough to get a good distance between their trough and shed. Flies like that slop and goop. Lol It's easy for me to say that Papaw's place was 375 acres and the hog lot was about 4. We ran a lotta hogs through that thing. Those old tractors were made to work. Unless you kill it by not taking care of it, they'll run forever. Absolutely love your channel and especially the videos with little man!!
That J-Bar brush hog is impressive Wes. You were mowing down stuff that I was cringing at but went right through. I was thinking when you said, "Laziness never pays off"...Oh I'll take care of that stump another day...like when my tractor gets stuck on it. Great video Wes thumbs up.
Well, you made that look like hard work ! Cutting a stump while you tractor sat on top of it. All you needed to do was, put a block of wood against one tyre and the Ford would have lifted itself off the stump !!! You can buy an orger type, post drill, which can be used to drill out the whole tree stump, with the right tip.
Those old Ford tractors have a distinct sound. As others have said that is what I learned on. Always be mindful for hornet and yellow jackets nest when mowing. Great video and shots from above.
Love your content! I'm cutting with an 8N and old falling apart bush hog. I look at your "old tractor" with envy! :) one suggestion might be to move the pig pen thru that area you are cutting. That'll cut down on the flies and let the pigs more "fully express their piggness". See Joel Salatin's videos on piggerator pork.
I wish I had 100 acres of 50 year old sweet gums, those tie logs are worth waaaay more that pine saw timber ever will be in the north AL/GA market.there is too much pine on the stump that was planted under CRP 20 to 40 years ago and company plantations. The pines not worthless but it's no we're near what it should be.
I saw this on another tractor related channel that I trust, and he mentioned that some people, especially the old timers, would drain the gear oil out of the rotary cutter gear box and just pump it full of grease and call it good. It's one of those things that makes you think "humm, why not?". The gear box on a cutter is about as simple as they come but I know squat so take it for what it's worth, lol....
There is quite the market now for older non-emissions tractors. I have been approached numerous times about selling my 2005 JD 5103. Like your Ford, it is a very simple gear drive tractor.
Not lazy but could be more diligent in doing things well as needed. The piggies now need a larger cleaner area or somehow to rotate sites. Nice job of mowing, Great to have the equipment that can handle the project.
I have an old J-Bar Finish Mower that I bought used ten years ago and I used it for a lot of mowing that should probably have been a job for the brush hog. It lasted me a good long while until the spindle bearings went. I called J-Bar and, even though it was some twenty years old, they had all the parts I would have needed to get it back up and running. Well... I saw a new big box brand deal on sale and impulse took over. I won't say what brand I got, but its been nothing but trouble for me and I now regret that decision. More than one occasion I have considered selling the new shiny and using that money to fix my old J-bar. Friends... if you can get your hands on a J-bar anything... know that its going to be built like a tank and, when you do end up needing parts, you can just call them up with your serial number and they'll take care of you.
Great video. Folks don’t understand what goes into the video. It looked so easy but to think you had a drone overhead while you’re mowing in the woods. And you had a stick camera while operating that old non power steering tractor.
It breaks my heart seeing you mowing down the small fir trees. I can appreciate what you are doing and why but I’m an old school treehugger that has spent decades planting and nurturing trees. Wishing you and your family a blessed week, gentle weather and restful evenings. Peace brother
Maybe moving a little to fast at first when cutting I notice you slowed down some a good idea with hidden stumps and such but good video as always! You might go back and walk with your chainsaw where you brush cut and flat cut those rough cuts from the brush hog because you will run over them again and punch your tires just saying from experience friend. Is there a way to weld a roll bar or something for your safety? Lap belt?
We use to have an old Ford 3000 with a loader. Do you all have problems with the breaks? Are always had problems with them. Other than that it was a beautiful tractor!!!
Hey Wes, I saw your solar kiln in the background on this video. Are you still using it? Would you do anything different now? I saw your original videos when you built it. Would love to see a follow up video about it. Thanks.
Don't use it anymore. It needed to be built with a large rear door instead of the small side doors. Basically made it unusable because of all the bending required.
Bro take bottom bolt off the face plate of gear box. 99% of time that's will be your drain and when 3pt raised you can drain it to nothing. Put bolt back in and tighten then refill to check plug and you golden
I would mow slower ,I thought that as soon as I started watching . And then you have to get the saw .Did you save any time? Having spent many hours getting tractors unstuck , go slower when you cant see well and if it looks too wet or steep it is.
My grandfather always ran older Ford tractors and the sound of your’s running takes me back to the my childhood.

I love this generation of Ford tractors. I've driven a 2000 and a 3000 one gas and one diesel. And they are some tough, reliable machines.
Thanks for sharing!!! I really enjoy these videos with a good mix of tractors working and some talking about projects. I am recovering from a surgery and I can't go do any of my projects for awhile until Doc clears me to run equipment.

Great job getting off the stump. My Dad had a saying,"DON'T GET YOUR SELF INTO TO ANYTHING YOU CAN"T GET YOURSELF OUT OF"
Can’t beat a Ford 3000, I have a 71 mdl that my dad bought new and it’s never let us or our 77 acres down. Great video!

Worked and played with those 1960s Ford tractors since they were new. Our yacht club still has a 2000 for moving boats around on shore and launching.
Good evening Wes. Great video as always. Thanks for sharing. God Bless.
I for one, LOOOOOOOOOOOOOVE that good ol' FORD tractor!!!! Whenever I see it, it brings I smile to my face much like seeing 'soft batch' chocolate chip cookies!
Is this real or one of those scams saying I am a distant relative of a Nigerian prince??
I own a 6600 but I like the 5000 better. Both are great do. The 6600 Mexico stopped production around 1995
It's nice to have Old Blu to do the dirty work and she keeps on ticking.
Love the 2000 ford. Raked a lot of hay with one. They have their own unique sound. Don’t even have to see it to know it’s a ford when it is idling.
Wow, My best friend, Thank you for your hard work in making the video. I enjoyed the good video. Have a happy day.

Very cool tractor! I like the brush guard. And that mower simply cutting a path of destruction! Awesome
You have got the "patience of Job" with moving the camera for so many different angles for us!! Thanks!! Great video, again!!! ✨️👍❤️
Oh how I love those Ford tractors! A mid 60s 3000 diesel is what I learned on. Few things at that time could make a 12yr old boy happier. Mowing is so satisfying. Instant results.
I commend you on using a support under the mower while sharpening the blades. Many would depend solely on the hydraulics to hold it up.
GOOD JOB
I remember this old ford 5000, diesel with that older shift pattern...late 50's I think...Grey body with Blue power train...shame some SOB stole it.
Nicely done 👍👍👍. Thank you for sharing. Be safe🇨🇦
That "JBar brush exterminator" doesn't stop at anything !! Seems to do a great job !! I like how you upgraded the retainer pin to a beefier model !! That one shouldn't get bent so easily !! Thanks for sharing and say " Hi" to your son and heir !!

I would put a grade 8 bolt and locknut in place of the pin. That spring clip will pop up in brush eventually and you’ll be searching for that wheel.
Not a bad idea.
Totally agree. Happened to me twice.
Great Video! That old tractor is great, just wish mine had power steering though!
Good working Ford 3000. When I'm brush hoggin like that I'm always afraid I'm going to run into a wasp nest.
0:36 Never seen that before.....LOL. Ingenious. Those nuts look like they need a 3 inch socket to take off !
Must be satisfying to have that grove all cleaned up!
Watching many of your video, and I respect you for all-around ability to keep everything work properly.
Great video. Loved the music at the end - went well with the shot!
Impressive jbar. I love the old tractor. I think one like that with diesel in four wheel drive would be perfect.
Great shots with all the angles. I’ve had great success when cutting down sweet gums immediately after the cut I paint the freshly cut stump with concentrated glyphosate. Tractor Supply brand. Man that brush cutter is a BEAST!!!!
I have got two ford in my farm... a 4110 and a 3000 like your ....i use only Ford and they are the best.

Fly trap info- I had the Rescue brand ‘Big Bag Fly Trap’ shipped to me. Boy does it work
I wish they had something for Mosquitoes
You ran over a lot of nice new pines. 😏😳
I only believe what that brush hog mowed down because I watched it. That thing is a beast.
Nice Machine! its all fun and games until you run into a bee nest! haha have a great day!
I agree, I’ve got one of these old work horses!
Great stuff enjoyed that thank you for sharing!!!!
Thanks, Mike!
Nothing like mowing grass
That J-Bar brush hog is impressive Wes. You were mowing down stuff that I was cringing at but went right through. I was thinking when you said, "Laziness never pays off"...Oh I'll take care of that stump another day...like when my tractor gets stuck on it. Great video Wes thumbs up.
Hi pl ko p
Agreed! These old tractors are the best! Loving my 3910! :)
Them old Fords are awesome, as long as you take care of them. Just like the old Masseyfurgersons
Pretty sweet stump grinder you got there.👍🕊
Good morning to all from SE Louisiana 13 Jun 22.
I need it this video....thank you!

can't beat them old ford tractor
For folks who get lazy mowing the front lawn... WaTch THiS.
“Ole Blue Bird” never fails to get the job done.
Those old Ford tractors have a distinct sound. As others have said that is what I learned on. Always be mindful for hornet and yellow jackets nest when mowing. Great video and shots from above.
My brother-in-law donated his tractor and bush hog to yellow jackets that really wanted them. He went back later to repossess.
Any oil, is better than no oil

Yes still use a Ford 3000 for raking hey and there is nothing like the sound of the 3 cylinder Perkins
Good video bud theres a lot of heat in a chainsaw in Ga these days stay cool 👍

I need to sharpen mine. There’s no way I could cut tree’s that big with mine.
Great overhead shots
Thanks Todd! Appreciate you watching.
“I’ll just cut a road through this jungle!” Fair play. No prisoners taken there🤪😂
There is quite the market now for older non-emissions tractors. I have been approached numerous times about selling my 2005 JD 5103. Like your Ford, it is a very simple gear drive tractor.
That's my favorite part about the tractor, no DPF.
Not lazy but could be more diligent in doing things well as needed. The piggies now need a larger cleaner area or somehow to rotate sites. Nice job of mowing, Great to have the equipment that can handle the project.
Yep, those gear boxes don't have a drain plug. It's a pain having to use a suction gun.

I don't envy you guys trying to film for us and do a toiling job at the same time.
Appreciate you watching, Mary!
Good job 👍
Nice video 📹 👍
What gear and range were you mowing in?!?!!
I owned a nice 4600SU for several years- a good, solid tractor. “Upgraded” to an orange one with mfwd. Oh well….
The orange ones are super nice...but I think my blue one will outlast it.
How many ticks did you pick off after that adventure?
Hey buddy use some espon salt mix it strong and pour around the stumps they won't come back
Great video. Folks don’t understand what goes into the video. It looked so easy but to think you had a drone overhead while you’re mowing in the woods. And you had a stick camera while operating that old non power steering tractor.

Nice drone footage. You must use the sound from the ground camera though, correct?
Correct. The drone doesn't pick up sound. If it did it would only be the buzz of the propellers.
Old Ford looks good under new shelter.
I agree with your headline, they're bad
Maybe moving a little to fast at first when cutting I notice you slowed down some a good idea with hidden stumps and such but good video as always! Sometimes you can take out the bottom bolt in the front cover of the gear box and drain the oil.
It looks like you could prop the bush hog on it's side and use the check plug for a drain plug? Maybe

Right at 47 I think.
