Formerly Gay Man Could Go to Jail After Sharing Testimony of Finding God, Embracing Bible

- An ex-LGBT activist is reportedly facing potential prison time after sharing his testimony of leaving behind a gay lifestyle to follow Christ. Matthew Grech, who lives in Malta, told CBN's Faithwire about his journey from out of the occult and same-sex relationships and his foray into the Christian faith.
"I was quite interested in New Age. I wanted to become a reiki master," he said of his life before finding Jesus. "So, I was involved in the occult to some extent as well as being fascinated by energy." That lifestyle was obliterated, though, when Grech was invited to church one day and experienced something he had never felt before: "the presence of God" and the love of genuine believers.
He said the impact of that experience was profound, leading him to fully embrace a Christian life.
Problems began, though, when Grech shared his story with a local outlet in Malta. He said there were two presenters with PMnews Malta who wanted to know more about the nation's crackdown on so-called conversion therapy and his take on the matter. Malta in 2016 became the first European Union country to ban attempts to "change, repress or eliminate a person's sexual orientation, gender identity and/or gender expression," leading to fines or even jail time.
His media discussion of his story apparently didn't sit well with some critics who heard it - a fact that became apparent when police got involved. Now, he's on trial and faces jail time and fines. Here's his story.

I did too, after 30 years of living as a gay man. Only the Lord can help those in this awful sin. He is right when he says that your mind is changed by the Holy Spirit about the way you interact and see other men, in a normal way, with out lust. Being free from that really does bring you so close to Jesus. I enjoy my life now I no longer live that way. That was 6 years ago.

I truly believed I was born gay because I knew something was different at an extremely young age. I was also sexually abused by my paternal grandfather & perhaps the reason for my decision that felt biological. It's kinda strange, the more society thought this lifestyle was O.K. I have a question. The Bible says a lot about love for example how we are to love our neighbors as we love ourselves. God loves us so much that he sent his son to die on the cross for our sins.

I just read today the story of the Apostle Paul being bit by the snake and the people of Malta standing back watching for a long while to see if he would die or have bad effects from that snake bite. I'm experiencing this in California myself as a parent pushing back against the agenda in elementary school level to indoctrinate or worse woke and lgbtq ideology on the children there. I instead protest with why it's wrong and immoral. I'm getting a huge push back and now possibly facing having them tear my family apart and having my child for themselves there. I Love that epiphany moment where he saw that it is a practice and not an identity. Also, the reality of residual feelings and needing to cling to our Abba to overcome them. So inspiring as it applies to this and all sexual sin.
Bingo! He is right when he addresses the issue as a confusion of identity. The Bible doesn't use that word, but the truth itself is expressed in Scripture under the term "nature."
Our western culture is deeply confused about what it even means to be human and we have allowed all sorts of identities tied to sexual practice, so called "race", gender, age, economic status (all rich people are greedy), etc. This thinking leads to division among people because we can't "identify" with each other unless we hit all the same identity markers. Ironically, what the world intends for unity accomplishes disunity.
The truth from Scripture is that we all share a common nature (identity) in Adam when we first enter this world. But the glorious truth of the gospel is that we receive a new identity in Christ, the Second Adam. In Him, all the old divisions are gone and we are one family, one flock, one new identity that act increasingly like our heavenly Father because we've been born again. More churches need to get back to this truth.

Not sure about that. I ve always been squarely straight, even during periods when I don't "practice" my heterosexuality, but it has never been a choice, (nor is it my "identity", obviously, just one trait of mine of many). The same would be true for gay people, I d imagine. I don't quite understand what the issue is, anyway. Let them stick it where they like, no? So long as it's consentual.

I had a counselor once tell me that when we put labels on ourselves those labels become limits. When we say I'm weak I'm depressed I'm fat I'm gay I'm unlovable. We limit ourselves within those titles but when we remove the title or label we are able to attain a new identity and become who we want to be... Rather than who a label tells us we are.
