I used to drink heavily in the 80s, and after totaling my car, realizing I could've killed myself or someone else, I NEARLY QUIT! I have maybe 1 or 2 a month. AND NEVER DUI! Who wants to wake up with a throbbing head?
Congrats on your sobriety. Losing your life savings, business and status will put you over the edge, for sure. I tried to end mine with 300 pills and miraculously failed. I guess God has bigger plans for me! Prayers for you and Mary. You are both beautiful people, who deserve a second chance!

Been a friend of Bill W. since August 23rd of 2002. The fourth dimension of existence is the life I always wanted but never thought I deserved. Extremely happy for your success and wish you and Mary the best always.

I think this is true love when you try to help eachother in the relationship, when times are tuff.

It affects your life. You're damn right and are speaking the real truth! I'm like you, my wife is like these "other" people, who I envy.

It would be interesting to hear people who got sober through ways other than AA. It doesn't work for everyone. I occasionally have dreams where i'm drinking, otherwise I never think of alcohol. It feels like my drinking years happened to another person.

I got sober after discovering Zen and its principles. Book-Zen and the art of happiness. Changed my life. Also, Abraham Maslow and Self-Actualization. Powerful. peace

I do think I drink too much, yet I don't drink every day. My pattern is to sip Scotch until I don't enjoy the taste and then stop. I probably drink about 500ml every other day in one time period. I drink because I get bored and to forget some family shenanigans and my combat in Iraq. I know I need to stop but it is hard.

I know you've stated that you never want to get back in the "business," but I've always had a dream of owning a restaurant/bar/live band venue, like a roadhouse in Northern Minnesota. I know nothing about restaurants. Would you ever consider helping me. I do have assets. My biggest problem is my lack of goals. Just think about it.
