It's a disaster. The understaffing is a definite concern. I am so happy Whit came out and expressed his dissatisfaction. I hope they make the necessary changes for a better travel experience.
Late April I arrived at Pearson. 1500 people going through maybe 40 kiosks asking for passport info, etc. After you funnel through there, 3 people working at the desks. Then had to go through secondary security where my questions were ignored for a half hour as my flight took off without me. I arrived 4 hours before my flight and still missed it. Absolutely ridiculous experience and it's still going on 2 months later

A few years back my wife and I were flying from Milwaukee to Cancun. We had to quick change planes in Chicago. We got to MKE super early. The woman at the ticket gate noticed we were checked in already and offered us an earlier flight to Chicago. The initial layover was quick, and Chicago ORD can be a shit-show, so we opted to take the earlier flight to get extra time to navigate ORD. My wife was worried about our checked bags. I told her not to worry, that we were still on the same flight from ORD to Cancun, so we would just meet our bags in Mexico. However, my wife has horrible anxiety, so to appease her, we went back to the ticket agent to confirm this wouldn't screw up anything with our luggage. She checked her computer, laughed, and said something along the lines of "We already loaded your bags on this earlier flight before you agreed to board it. There was extra room for them." Then she went on to tell us that it's not uncommon for baggage to find its way onto other flights to make up for weight distribution. Long story short, that AirCanada guy dicking you around about flying your bags was probably full of shit.
I live in Welland and can confirm how bad the hospital waits are. Went to emergency for something, waited 10 hours with no one else in the waiting room. Eventually left when the clock hit 8:30am and my family doctor's office opened. Took a few hours to get looked at by going that route but the level of doubt and uncertainty in that hospital eats your soul. It was worth the risk in the end. Shame your Mom had to go through that Biz. Like it or not, this is political, at least to me. I'm not gonna rant and rave but things have spiraling out of control in many ways for around 7 years. Change is beyond necessary.
Health care is managed by the province. Canada sets the standards, the provinces have to manage and deliver. Ontario reelected Doug Ford so expect more of the same. I am from Manitoba and I generally wait 1-2 hours in the waiting room. Not great but many provinces have it a lot worse.
I traveled to Toronto for 3 years prior to Covid and it was just as bad. Cancelled flights, under staffed, long lines - awful experiences. Whit isn’t exaggerating about anything. The city airport is a bit better.
I had a flight from Cuba to Toronto this past Sunday, our flight out of Cuba was delayed from 8pm to 12am, but luckily getting through the airport at that time of night was quick (I live in Toronto). The place was empty when we landed around 3:30am. But it still sucked cause I had my 6 month old with us, really screwed with our sleep schedules and everyone got sick.
Imagine thinking your rights are being trampled on when this is the only airport in Canada this is happening to. Get of your basement and travel big boy
I’ve never traveled to Canada by air, so unsure if that’s how U.S. Customs normally works up there. However, coming back from Europe I had to connect through Dublin and we missed our flight to the States because you have to go through U.S. Customs in the Dublin airport before boarding the flight. Customs closed before our scheduled flight time, so the flight took off. Some airports or countries make you do U.S. Customs before boarding your flight to the States which I find unusual as well.
Biz you are so right about the govt sponsored monopolies in Canada within everything from healthcare to cell phones.... it is political and its the same direction the USA is going.... i hope you can consider using your platform to share these things... many Americans actually want Canadian style healthcare... meanwhile I live in one of the richest towns in Canada (Whistler) and we have one doctor who hasn't taken new patients in like 8 years... everyone here just has to go to the emergency room for anything from prescriptions, to a common cold, to a bladder pain...
Just flew to Toronto last week on Swoop from Edmonton. Flight went smooth but when got to Pearson had to wait 2.5 hours for luggage at the carrousel. Week later fly back to Edmonton, I have Nexus so I got through in 10mins but my friends took 90 mins to get through screening. Also the Tim Horton by gate B3 in terminal 3 had only one girl working. Line for Tim Hortons was huge and none stop. Give that girl a raise please.
I live just outside of Toronto, had to go to a work event in Vegas the week of Monday June 6th to Friday June 10th. On the way there: flight is delayed 6 hours due to a maintenance issue with the plane ( can put that one on WestJet I guess ). On the way back: flight lands in Pearson, sits on the runway for 25mins because the plane at our gate has maintenance issues (ffs WestJet) then we get to the gate and we sit for another 20-30mins because customs is full, so there's a hold. I love everything about this rant, hopefully it shames and embarrasses the Canadian government enough to do something about the state of shambles YYZ is currently in.
I'm flying next month from Jamaica through Pearson (with an overnight in TO) connecting to Minneapolis the next morning. I really hope they have this bullshit sorted out by then. The main issue with Air Canada and "customer service" is that no one ever understands the problem and if they do, they seldom are given the tools to deal with them.
I live just outside Toronto. Pearson has been a shitshow since long before the Pandemic. I'm sure its even worse now, but its always been way understaffed and had incredibly confusing systems/rules, leading to ridiculous lines, crazy waiting times, and flight cancelation confusions. As much as some people would like to make this political, it actually isn't. This isn't on the government, federal or provincial. The GTAA runs that airport. Has since '96, and has always done an absolutely shit job at it.
Whitney you gotta use your platform to speak up against the injustices facing many Canadians.... they arent even allowed to fly out and leave their own country because of the vacks theater..... wanna know the only other country which doesn't allow its citizens to leave???? North Korea..... Canada and north Korea.... even china lets its citizens leave....
I’m from Ukraine and agree with Whit 100% about that guy’s comment. Anybody has the right to be mad when airports are shitty. I’ve literally dealt with terrible airports like O’Hare in Chicago on my way to Ukraine on a trip I had a long time ago. We got delayed twice and spent two days in O’Hare before getting on a plane.
Still at Toronto Airport. Going on two day now. This place disgusts me. The employees are as rude, stupid and as useless as can be. They canceled more than 30 flights yesterday because all they do is over book flights so they can make their money and then they just cancel half of them. They throw the luggage around like it’s bags of garbage and leave it there for anybody to take. We are here again and flights are slowly being canceled again. People are prisoners in this trash hole. After we got in yesterday we waited 8 hours for them to try and find our bag. It’s James large(hard to miss) hockey bag. They kept telling us it was there and they would get it. Every hour we checked back to get our bag and they kept telling us they had someone looking for it but that it would definitely be on our flight at 1:30 the next day with us. James has an air tag in his bag so we could see where it was. It was here for a while but no one was able to get it to us. Then for about an hour we had no signal to the bag. It was last pinned outside by the planes. The manager told us our air tag was broken, then he told us it fell out of bag, then he told us there was no way our bag was there. Little did we know, they had put our bag on another flight that we were not on and the bag had made its way to Chicago. After telling the Manager that he was not helpful and they need to get their shit together, he told us that he helped us and didn’t know what else to say. I told him he should say sorry for all the trouble. He then laughed and told me that I should thank him. Again I told him that he should apologize to us for making us wait for over 8 hours just to find out that they took our bag(a bag they told us to come pick up from baggage claim) and they flew it home without us. He laughed and walked away, I called him useless and we made our way to the door. The Manager then yells down the hall and screams “ looks like you forgot your charger!” He laughs, takes our charger from the wall we were at and he walks away with it and takes it behind the desk with him. I’ve never been so appalled by the actions of these employees in my life. This place is Hell! Losing bags, canceling flights, short staffed and so much more. This airport is doing more harm being open than if it was shut down. This place has been opened for 15 years and they have no idea what they are doing. They built a new airport thinking it would be better for everyone, yet they have no clue how to run the place. They are short staffed because you must be vaccinated to work. And now they won’t even hire new employees because they don’t want to pay for more staff. We stood in line with another couple for a couple hours in a few different places and literally listens to the employees tell us both different things. They straight up lie to you about everything. Most of their equipment doesn’t even work here, they have more people working to fix things in the airport than they do running the actual place. Their computer system doesn’t even actually work because they kept putting in our checked bag number and kept telling us it was definitely here and they will get it. What the fuck is the point in the bag number if when you put it into system you can’t find it. How did you not know that hours ago it made its way to Chicago! Without us! Because of this lack of commen sense and intelligence at this airport, we did not get the sleep, food and little stress we needed. Instead, we got a couple hours of sleep in a shit hotel, shitty airport food, and my anxiety was at an all time high because all I wanted to do was get home to the kids! If it wasn’t for our freaking amazing friends and family I don’t even know what I would do at this point. Crossing our fingers we are able to get on our flight today at 1:30. 🤞🏼🙏🏼 😫 And to the wonderful Toronto Airport… I hope this place burns in hell. I will never be flying to this dumpster fire again. The horror stories I’ve heard before hand I should have known.
Pearson was terrible long before the pandemic. Last time I traveled through Pearson was 2017 and I would avoid it at all costs even today. I would fly through the US before flying from Montreal through Pearson. Both times I had a connection in Pearson were disasters.
If you guys ever need to fly to Logan from Toronto take Billy Bishop. Porter is amazing service, lines are 10-20 min tops, the take off and landing is beautiful off the Island downtown, plus... you're downtown. Airport Sheridan (while actually a wonderful hotel, had a really good experience there once), is not nearly as nice as the hotels downtown. I show up there 30-40 min before my flight.
I had my own horror experience on June 6th at ac, my flight to Manila had 2 connections 1 to Boston and 1 to turkey, my flight to Boston got canceled 7 hours before takeoff and switched with a flight to Germany the Germany flight was delayed 5 hours so I missed my connection to turkey, they sent me to qatar instead and when I landed in Manila I had no fn luggage, I had just spent 1k on gifts and new clothes and now I’m in Manila with the winter clothes I had on when I left, air Canada is the biggest joke of an airline and I hope to god they go bankrupt, Canada deserves better
Having just come home from dealing with a similar situation and 4 flights to get home, this was brutal. Its an absolute joke how airports and airlines are allowed to function. Nothing but anxiety and misdirection for hours and hours.
Here now. Dealing w the exact same thing. Going on two days now. Lots bags. Cancelled flights. Employees have no clue what they are telling us. Absolutely dumpster fire of an airport . I just wanna go home
I've been through the airport multiple times in the last 3 months and live in the area for the last 6yrs. Huge shit storm and is ridiculous that there constantly never anyone around until you post something negative or almost flat out yell. But they are understaffed and have too much red tag to work even if you are vaccinated.
Flew from London connection in Toronto. Bags didn’t clear but went up to baggage service and they don’t tell people but they have a form that a aircanada agent fills out to push you through customs without your bags. Only downfall is you may need to make a claim for your bags to get it shipped to you. At that point I said screw my bags I’m getting pushed through.
I've had some similar experiences at other airports. But this really just makes me hate flying now. Just like all the delays, missing connections, no one to deplane, sitting on the plane waiting on the tarmac for 3 hours, just hate all of that and it seems to be more common today than like 20 years ago.
Clearing American customs in Canada can be great because you then can fly into smaller airports in the US because the flight is considered a US domestic flight. I once flew from Toronto- Bishop (YTZ) to Montreal (YUL), then cleared US Customs in Montreal and connected to New York-LGA instead of NY-JFK. I wasn't a fan either of Air Canada
Feel your pain Whit , 3 years in row prior to covid my flight was re-directed or cancelled pearson is brutal .. its almost like its government run !!! Had a direct flight once from troronto to edmonton get canceled and had to fly to vancouver then to edmonton ! another time missed flight due to custom scanners being down !! its a gong show ..
Lol, I watched this podcast then found out later that my nephew Bryden was “the kid” stuck with Ryan from the story. He isn’t still stuck in the airport. Apparently he ended up getting a hotel room and made it out the next day somehow.
Good on you for telling your story, dude. I'm Canadian, haven't had to fly anywhere so I'm really fortunate. The vaccine mandates are completely NUTS and it could absolutely kick our economy in the nuts. Hopefully this brings some awareness to how completely insane our government is.
Pearson airport is the absolute worst airport in north America, I've probably been to 25 different airports all over united states and Canada, unfortunately I live just east of Toronto and I am forced to go to into this airport of despair and frustration.
I fly WestJet or bust. It's not perfect either but I've never had an issue getting to my destination with them. Back in 2001 I flew Air Canada and my flight was supposed to come with a meal. The meal ended up being crackers and water, no joke 😂😂
I did this exact same flight on may 25th and no one was there and it took 15 minutes 😂 I was shocked at how dumb the system was luckily it wasn’t busy at all. That airport is a god dam joke. Soooo dumb
It took a year to get a credit from Air Canada for a flight they canceled in '20. I had to spend hours on the phone and send multiple e-mails. They were forcing me to fill out an online module instead of letting their call center process a credit. It was not working and the directions they provided were not correct. Credit does not expire but I guarantee it will be a pain to use.

Wow. As a Canadian living in Ontario, I don't have any immediate travel plans, but if I do, I'll fly out of Buffalo without hesitation. Sorry Whit.
I've been doing that for years. Cheaper and you avoid the shit show. Pearson has been a dumpster fire for a decade plus.
Thank you Whit and Chiclets boys for telling the truth! Shitshow is right
We used to travel in and out of Halifax a lot and it was usually a great experience. But Toronto…wow, not fun. Great storytelling.
This is honestly so nice to fall asleep to at night
I am with you one hundred percent on Pearson Airport, I had a plane transfer there and it was a complete nightmare.
I feel your pain🤜🤛
Thanks for fighting for Canadian freedoms and rights that are being trampled on!
Imagine thinking your rights are being trampled on when this is the only airport in Canada this is happening to. Get of your basement and travel big boy
@@l99lGretzkyl99l Oh so if it only happens in 1 place then no rights are being trampled.... got it. Fucking cinderblock
@@l99lGretzkyl99l you obviously can't afford to travel

@@brockmartin3016 did it happen to them in Alberta? Should have been the same thing no?
I’ve never traveled to Canada by air, so unsure if that’s how U.S. Customs normally works up there. However, coming back from Europe I had to connect through Dublin and we missed our flight to the States because you have to go through U.S. Customs in the Dublin airport before boarding the flight. Customs closed before our scheduled flight time, so the flight took off. Some airports or countries make you do U.S. Customs before boarding your flight to the States which I find unusual as well.
23:45 lmao. I COULDA FLOWN TO IRELAND! lmao 🤣 🤣

He would still have to clear customs!

Preach!!! Pearson is exactly as described.
To the ppl chirping about this being a boring story...maybe so but it's one that needed to be said....thanks whit for calling them out on their bs
It was exhausting just hearing about it. Canadian government priorities are confusing.
Can't build back better unless you break it down first. Not that confusing
It’s the problem of 1 airport, the Canadian gov isn’t in charge of it.
destroying the country is part of their plan. then rebuild in a way where they have 100% control over every little things with digital id
Ryan Whitney - the investigative journalist we needed!
Please respond on this thread about your Pearson experience....
The ad placement when he talks about the flight change is perfect
When I used to travel a lot for work (5-8 years ago) I would avoid YYZ whenever possible, I can't imagine how terrible it is now that it is this bad.
I don't know why but I could watch this 1000 times
Same
This is just the South Park skiing episode without forcing you to sign up for a timeshare in the end
And to the wonderful Toronto Airport… I hope this place burns in hell. I will never be flying to this dumpster fire again. The horror stories I’ve heard before hand I should have known.
Hamilton and Waterloo airports are trying to compete with Pearson.
Give them a try next time.
Hearing this on the pod was funny watching it was the best 😂
Just got back to YYZ last night. 3 last min canceled flights a delayed bus and a 40 min delay back to toronto and wasn't even traveling international.
I felt like I was there. Whit sure can tell a story man. I was getting heated for him
Im 6:55 in and I need backup,...couple deep breathes, maybe a rest and at least a drink. LOLOLOLOLOL. Great story telling.
Having just come home from dealing with a similar situation and 4 flights to get home, this was brutal. Its an absolute joke how airports and airlines are allowed to function. Nothing but anxiety and misdirection for hours and hours.
Just had the same thing happen to me last Sunday at that airport….. Ended up just driving back to Connecticut.
Toronto has the worst airport in the world, even in the best of times. I avoid it at all costs.
I love this Podcast
My goodness, I can relate to this. I have similar story with Deutsche Bahn in Germany.
This is the BEST story Whit has ever told lol…phenomenal storytelling
One of the best stories in chiclets history 😂
Travelled on June 30th. I had the exact same experience at Pearson airport minus the customs stuff. Down to the goddamn luggage bullshit.
Could listen to Whit tell stories all day
Here now. Dealing w the exact same thing. Going on two days now. Lots bags. Cancelled flights. Employees have no clue what they are telling us. Absolutely dumpster fire of an airport . I just wanna go home
I just had a Calgary - NY trip...no problem either way, but then I wasn't flying Air Canada
Air Canada: “We’re not happy until you are unhappy!”
My friend had a similar problem going the other way from Toronto to Minneapolis. Flying is a mess.
Soon if you get a chip in your arm you can bypass all this mess
One man to blame Justin Trudeau.
Why does biz sound so sarcastic so funny ‘oh my goodness’
The funny thing is, US Customs chose that setup, it's horrible......
Spittin Chiclets is my favorite channel
Lol, I watched this podcast then found out later that my nephew Bryden was “the kid” stuck with Ryan from the story. He isn’t still stuck in the airport. Apparently he ended up getting a hotel room and made it out the next day somehow.
Good on you for telling your story, dude. I'm Canadian, haven't had to fly anywhere so I'm really fortunate. The vaccine mandates are completely NUTS and it could absolutely kick our economy in the nuts. Hopefully this brings some awareness to how completely insane our government is.
The fact that I'm actually experiencing anxiety from LISTENING to this story....
I'm flying out of Pearson in July 😰
@@firestone3217 change your flight asap lol
This is one of the funniest things I've heard in a while lol
Pearson airport is the absolute worst airport in north America, I've probably been to 25 different airports all over united states and Canada, unfortunately I live just east of Toronto and I am forced to go to into this airport of despair and frustration.
Id drive to buffalo. I live in London ON and drive to detroit.
literally sounds like being in hell
Soon dealing with this hell will be only for the upper middle class. Most people won't have to worry about this
I fly WestJet or bust. It's not perfect either but I've never had an issue getting to my destination with them. Back in 2001 I flew Air Canada and my flight was supposed to come with a meal. The meal ended up being crackers and water, no joke 😂😂
There are several airports in Canada with American Customs agents. In Ireland at Shannon Airport as well.
Listening to this story made me so pissed and then I remembered it didn’t happen to me
I did this exact same flight on may 25th and no one was there and it took 15 minutes 😂 I was shocked at how dumb the system was luckily it wasn’t busy at all. That airport is a god dam joke. Soooo dumb
Peter Mansbiz has never looked so glorious.
Sorry to hear about your mom Paul hope she gets better soon your dad, mom & sister are such nice people.
as bad as this is many airports around the world are experiencing the same thing right now.
Love this clip. So good.
