The single most brilliantly unpredictable death in horror history was Drew Barrymore in "Scream". When you're given top billing in a horror, you're usually given one of 2 roles. The villain or the final girl. Killing her off by the opening credits literally tells the viewer that no one is safe and that no one knows what is going to happen next. Pure brilliance by Wes Craven.
I agree. I was shocked to see Carrie give Miss Collins a basketball backboard. To be honest, though, the hallucinations of everyone laughing and the blood drop made her snap. Miss Collins was the mother figure Carrie needed, but not even she knew that Sue was only trying to warn Carrie.
Worst movie I've ever seen. I HATED that movie. 15 minutes of exposition at the end to explain everything means you did a terrible job showing the story. Trash from start to finish. I was so bored.
The most shocking thing tho was the fact that a teenager brother would take his young sister to a party at all, it was fucking weird. Boring movie in general
Bill Skarsgard as Keith from Barbarian should be an honorable mention. Everybody thought he was gonna be the bad guy before Mama bashed his head in and left everybody feeling bad they didn’t trust him.
Scream was also a brilliant move on Drew Barrymore’s part. Her career was on life support when she took that role. So daring to accept a character who dies in the first act. She could’ve thought it was beneath her and instead made the most of her 5 minutes on screen.
As a husband and a father of two boys, the ending of The Mist is truly the scariest thing I can imagine. If I was Thomas Jane, I would have begged the military to kill me.
I’m a single teenage girl but I can’t imagine and don’t want to imagine having that happen to me. If I felt like I was forced to kill my husband and child but then figured out that I did it for nothing….I get sick even thinking about it and I too would probably beg the people to kill me
I think the worst part is the fact that the woman and child that ran for it early in the movie are riding the military transport. So the dad is left thinking he should have just run for it at the start,
I don't have kids but I couldn't imagine that kind of horror. I've always wondered if he could have waited until one of the creatures attacked before actually having to do what he did.
The 19 or 20-year-old Randy Meeks (played by Jamie Kennedy) was one of my several favorite male characters from the ‘Scream’ film franchise. I really HATE Billy’s mom and Sam’s grandma Nancy Loomis for killing Randy over the insult to her “precious son” who was NOTHING but a serial killer in the first film installment, good thing Randy and other victims were avenged at the end of the 1997 sequel.
Casey Becker dying in "Scream" (1996) within the first 10 minutes was more shocking than most of these honestly. Everyone thought she was the lead character, so her getting killed at the beginning was a shocker.
The sad part about Sue Snell’s death in The Rage: Carrie 2 is that she tried to save Rachel and prevent history from repeating itself. In the original script, Sue manages to get inside the house unharmed and save Rachel only to be doused in alcohol then hit with a flaming log and burns to death.
Can’t see Samuel L Jackson die in Deep Blue Sea without thinking of Dave Chapelles’s impression of him. “NO I CANT STOP YELLING! THIS IS HOW I TALK! HAVENT YOU SEEN MY MOVIES?!? DEEP BLUE SEA?!? THE FUCKIN’ SHARK ATE ME!” 😂😂😂
I feel like Randy Meeks should’ve been in the top 3 because all the Randy Fans cried when he died and I think that he is always going to be a scream legend but he was the G.O.A.T of Scream along with Dewey they both are LEGENDS
Charlie’s death in Hereditary was the most unexpected death I’ve seen. After she ate the peanut butter I knew something would happen but I never expected a deer to show up and a pole to decapitate her.
Love Samuel L. Jackson's "unexpected" death in Deep Blue Sea! "Get these Mother F-ing Sharks Out Of This Mother F-ing Ocean!" Drew Barrymore's death in the first few minutes of Scream really did shock me! I'm sure that 99% of you can agree! It's weird the way the guy in Alien died. I keep seeing the person on an operating table with the creature busting out of his chest. I may need to pull out my DVDs and watch again. Maybe Aliens? Haven't finished watching Get Out yet, and probably won't. Way too freaking weird! So, I know I'm not gonna watch Us. I LOVE Jordan Peele, but come on man! Make a comedy! Even a dark comedy will work! I miss Key and Peele!!!
I don’t remember how old I was in my teen years but I was shocked that Darry in Jeepers Creepers died. I was like “No, not Darry” but he died. The ending of him with his eyes out gave me the chills
To be fair, I was not at all shocked that Derry died. I was surprised that it didn't happen sooner. His sister wanted to leave and he insisted on investigating the Creeper. I don't know how it could have ended any other way. He refused to run when he had the chance and almost got his sister killed in the process. Creepy? Absolutely, but not unexpected.
I was heartbroken when Sue Snell was killed off in "The Rage: Carrie 2." I feel the same way about Jenna's death in the remake of "Friday the 13th." I honestly thought she would survive. And don't get me started on Nancy's death in "Nightmare on Elm Street 3." I end up in tears every time I watch that part.
@@zackzaharko89 Yup. I know a lot of people liked that movie, but I have no clue why. That one scene sure, that was one of the most surprising and scariest scenes in any movie I've ever seen. After watching A Quiet Place at home, instead of the theaters. I had a feeling that the kid wasn’t going to make it. With the title “A Quiet Place”, Beau’s death was going to happen because of a toy
Hereditary was devastating. Not so much for the death of Charlie, shocking in its own right, but what stayed with me was the grief of the mother. The most heartfelt delivery of the line "I just want to die!" in movie history in my opinion.
The line was, "That's another one for the fire." It might sound like he said farm, but that's just his accent. They were burning the zombie corpses so they couldn't reanimate.
Fun Fact. Drew Barrymore was originally cast to play Sydney but she pulled out only 6 weeks before production started. Some people say it was for unknown reasons bur im oretry sure she admitted she liked the idea of dying in the film and of course we all know syd doesn't die so they gave the role to Neve Campbell
When I was really little, like, maybe 2 or 3, I got out of bed to get a drink of water. Well, my parents happened to be watching Alien at the time since they had either bought or rented it, and I walked out right at the point of Kane's death. That scene had apparently triggered an instant trauma, since I woke up later screaming about scary froggies, and refused to ever sleep in my little bed ever again.
I'm surprised there's not a single comment about Cabin in The Woods. There's nothing unexpected about his death unless you weren't paying attention. Earlier in the movie, while they were going through the tunnel, the camera pans to a bird flying and hitting the force field.
I was 8 when my baby sitter let me watch scream and I tipped toed around the house for months not days months. I was quick enough to figure out how to turn the ringer off the phone.
I like to say for the record that horror movies and other movie genres are untouchable. I’m like, come on, you can’t give a franchise to a movie if it’s going to measure up to the original
Off topic but I HATE it when main characters die. Such as the leads in 47 Ronin, Warcraft and Léon: The Professional. If I watched that zombie movie, I would be mad
I dislike the ending of The Mist because it paints Carmody as possibly being correct as once the boy dies the Mist subsides, just like she said it would.
As soon as I saw Russell Franklin in front of that pool I knew he was done for. The death of Dick Halleran was just one of a hundred things wrong With Kubrick's The Shining.
I can't stand when movies are made from a book and they change the story. That's why I can't stand Kenneth Branagh as Hercule Poirot. Those movies are a travesty and an insult to Agatha Christie.

There’s just something about horror movies to me that I find interesting could be seeing if the main characters can survive and what crazy monster has been invented, also a lot of the time have good stories
Romero stated in the 1990 remake he wanted a few things from the original corrected including Ben's demise by having him become a zombie this time having them shoot him without choice that and Barbara becoming a badass and not useless like the original.
Darry was an idiot in Jeepers Creepers. From the first time I saw that movie, I knew he would die. i have watched this with my kids. And my kids all say, "Damnit, Darry, idiot."
Forget Ben getting shot, did anyone catch what the sheriff said to the reporter about the zombies trying to get into the barn?, he said "we beat'em off and blasted'em down"... I'm sorry sheriff, you did what? 🤨... yeah he definitely should have worded that differently 🤣
Sue Snell's death was probably the most insulting death in horror movie history. You take a legacy character who is killed accidentally and there's no reason Rachel ever even knew she was there. She might as well have died breaking her neck while walking to the 7-11 at the time.
Not sure it’s a horror movie but Samuel L Jackson’s “we are not gonna fight anymore!” From deep blue sea…Gotta be up there Unexpected and hilarious 😂😂😂
I honestly don't know if I am the only one, lol,but I thought Deep Blue Sea was a great scary movie and the idea of genetically modified hyper intelligent sharks was scary and unique.I haven't seen the follow up movies but thought the first one was great and sinister and loved the cook, lol.I hope and pray that you are all blessed out there and happy!!!❤😂
It's pointless to say spoiler alert without saying which movies it's for, since unless someone's seen literally every movie in existence they can't know if it's safe to watch or not until after you've said the spoiler 🙃
Both that film and CITW were filmed long before Chris was cast as Thor. After Thor came out, they found a way to release those right away. Because they thought "Oh they'll see our movie if Thor is in it". CITW was good, the Red Dawn remake... It was fine. Nothing to write home about.
9:00 As for Kurt Vaughn unexpected death….Cabin In The Woods was actually produced and filmed in 2009 before Chris Hemsworth became a household name with his portrayal as Thor. MGM originally had the right but they shelved the movie due to financial difficulties. In 2011 Lions Gate acquired the rights and they theatrically released it in 2012
No parent would let their youngest child be at the end of the line while walking single file. The dad would have been in front and the mother would have been last IRL.
#8 (Samuel L Jackson) his death in the Jigsaw movie wasn't expected (incase you do another list) and it's the one death that broke my heart, if I'm being honest. I cried like a baby!
It just occurred to me who is the OBVIOUS #1...or should be. Janet Leigh. The Shower scene. Psycho. Let's see if I'm right... Edit: no. I am not. It's #2. But the death at #1 was the correct pick I must admit. I stand corrected.

Romero stated in the 1990 remake he wanted a few things from the original corrected including Ben's demise by having him become a zombie this time having them shoot him without choice that and Barbara becoming a badass and not useless like the original.
Former child actress Drew Barrymore did a great playing the 17-year-old Casey Baker as one of Billy Loomis and Stu Macher’s victims in ‘Scream.’
Darry was an idiot in Jeepers Creepers. From the first time I saw that movie, I knew he would die. i have watched this with my kids. And my kids all say, "Damnit, Darry, idiot."
His sister had brains at times. He was a complete fool. 🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️
There is nothing shocking about him getting killed.
What an idiot he was.
@@ashwinidesai4051yes brains and beauty
Forget Ben getting shot, did anyone catch what the sheriff said to the reporter about the zombies trying to get into the barn?, he said "we beat'em off and blasted'em down"... I'm sorry sheriff, you did what? 🤨... yeah he definitely should have worded that differently 🤣
Those terms meant different things when that movie was made in 1968.
When Eddie gets killed in the sewers in The Blob remake...wasnt expecting a young kid to get eaten like that.
Sue Snell's death was probably the most insulting death in horror movie history. You take a legacy character who is killed accidentally and there's no reason Rachel ever even knew she was there. She might as well have died breaking her neck while walking to the 7-11 at the time.
Not sure it’s a horror movie but Samuel L Jackson’s “we are not gonna fight anymore!” From deep blue sea…Gotta be up there
Unexpected and hilarious 😂😂😂
here's a tip for you:
watch the video before commenting 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
The illuminati of Earth-838
"Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness" (2022)
The rage: Carrie 2, Rachel lang is the half sister of Carrie, same dad
the looped FCP music is distracting, but good list.
What Ben’s death told me is no main character is safe until after the end credits
In the Texas chainsaw massacre 2022 movie Melody getting killed by Leatherface just before the movie ends was a surprise for me
Surprised me as well. Didn’t see that coming. I was beyond shocked
Elsie Fisher (voice of Agnes) is the final girl
Samuel L. Jackson's death in Deep Blue Sea was what I thought of when clicking on this movie. Glad to see it made it in lol
Chris Hemsworth was in Red Dawn, and his death was out of the blue!!!
Both that film and CITW were filmed long before Chris was cast as Thor. After Thor came out, they found a way to release those right away. Because they thought "Oh they'll see our movie if Thor is in it". CITW was good, the Red Dawn remake... It was fine. Nothing to write home about.
he had to die in the Red dawn remake, just Swayze did in the original
@@rockero1313 Is it a horror film?? Red dawn I mean??
@@ashwinidesai4051 nope, it's an action drama. the original is pretty good, the remake is just ok
Judy from the 2012 Maniac opening scene caught me off guard and definitely deserves a place in this list
9:00 As for Kurt Vaughn unexpected death….Cabin In The Woods was actually produced and filmed in 2009 before Chris Hemsworth became a household name with his portrayal as Thor. MGM originally had the right but they shelved the movie due to financial difficulties. In 2011 Lions Gate acquired the rights and they theatrically released it in 2012
we need more movies like hereditary
then make them
Nah, it was super boring
@@dashtoroya2838 A M E N!!!!!
NO THANKS
Curt’s death in Cabin in the Woods wasn’t that unexpected since it was revealed earlier that there was force field there
I’m still mad that Beau was even in the back. He should’ve been in the front 😢
No sense
No parent would let their youngest child be at the end of the line while walking single file. The dad would have been in front and the mother would have been last IRL.
Jordan Peele needs to Reboot the Nightmare on Elm street movies XD
Yeah that would be cool
#8 (Samuel L Jackson) his death in the Jigsaw movie wasn't expected (incase you do another list) and it's the one death that broke my heart, if I'm being honest. I cried like a baby!
The deaths in A Quiet Place were AWFUL 😭😭😭
Why is Jeepers Creepers 'controversial '?
Pedo director
The director has been accused of child SA also the storyline was inspired by an unsolved mysteries case in the late 80s.
@@ericapoe oh, ok. Thanks for letting me know.

TOP 10 Strangest Cartoon Characters
It just occurred to me who is the OBVIOUS #1...or should be. Janet Leigh. The Shower scene. Psycho.
Let's see if I'm right...
Edit: no. I am not. It's #2. But the death at #1 was the correct pick I must admit. I stand corrected.
