Imagine being Strongarm, having the absolute stones to just unapologetically hire this unknown dude with a high range and lyrics about girls and just show up to something like this completely prepared to deliver a flawless set. It can’t be overstated how unprecedented this was and remains to this day. Just unreal.
Could instantly know it was Strongarms dynamic musicians. Advent of a Miracle already had that completely mathy melodic experience & even though preferred Atonement. Remember to this day getting on the Takehold records forum & the news was Strongarm was becoming something different. Actually had dial up and patiently downloaded the mp3 from the new Further website, before the album they had like 3 songs up, and eventually think it was on a comp cd before the album arrived. Instantly loved it. Was a big into all the loud tooth and nail solid state catalogue, & Takehold. Yet already was listening to Appleseed Cast, Benton Falls, and always loved blink 182, slick shoes, mxpx, hot water music, sharks keep moving, Plankeye and of course was long lover of Alternative indie music in general. So was a welcome experience
0:18 The Moon is Down 3:24 Snowbirds and Townies 7:50 Pictures of Shorelines 10:38 Justice Prevails 14:26 Shirts and Gloves (Dashboard Confessional) 16:40 New Years Project 20:30 The Bradley
Early basement emocore boy sets fire, initial records, and lots of melodic elements were appreciate by a portion of hc folks. Yet do remember how some friends would think melody and singing was lame sauce. Actually kept it to myself how much I love melodic music. And so many hc kids couldn’t appreciate the more melodic elements in their own favorite bands. Was nice to see all those bands play together in one show though. 7 inch era, cds tapes. Looks like we will have newfound appreciation for the diy physical mediums again. It’s already more appreciated to have the cd, vinyl, tape, to order straight off a bands bandcamp or site. Interesting cause this was before MySpace emo, and nu metal and modern contemporary music. These bands continued all though it all. And then now it’s full circle. Really love the Sense Field era of further. Was is & always will be an awesome musical experience
In the crowds defense, we didn’t know any of the songs until the last 3 because only the split with recess theory had been released at that time. The moon is down wouldn’t be release until the following year.
