Interesting video. I will add that there is a third reason you may not want to undergo a background check - it's simply impractical for you. I was in this exact situation because I needed a "certificate of no criminal conviction" to apply for a residence permit. Sounds simple enough, so I requested it from the two countries I had lived in recently. One of them was issued in 4 hours and the other one took 3 years.

In previous videos you've said that people working a job shouldn't be in low wage countries. And for the most part, I agree. However, many people interested in Financial Freedom/GeoArbitrage have skills which allow them to work remotely. And remote workers have the option to maintain high salaries (in countries like the US or Switzerland), but live in cheaper countries (like Bulgaria). This can drastically reduce the amount of time we need for Financial Freedom. For instance, I'm a Blockchain Programmer. Yeah i was wondering about that as well. If you marry a citizen of a country it's hard to believe that they can deny you the right to stay in the country to be with your spouse because of past issues.
Colombia requires a criminal background check. It doesn't require a background check if you marry a Colombian citizens but for all other visa a fbi criminal background check is mandatory
First, do you ever reply? I'm American. I have a criminal record, yr 2000. If Columbia looks back three years, how does one obtain a US background check of the same time frame?
They now require a background check and some lawyers stress an FBI background check that shows everything. It even shows charges several years ago unless they were expunged. you will be lucky just to get away with a state background check. getting a visa is a lot of hassle and Colombia is really not that great. it is pretty dangerous if you don't know how to have situational awareness you may not make it back. Many foreigners go there and get drugged and robbed. They lose thousands and some even lose their lives. if you are a sicko and like dirty cheap prostitutes then Colombia is your place.

Thailand also doesn`t carry criminality checks per obtaining residence etc there. Australia will consider allowing entry depending on the offence and the number of years since conviction. This is especially if you have a Police Certificate stating No Live Trace. The No Live Trace Police Certificate that you haven`t had more convictions in the past 35 years. Peru has a very interesting passport in terms of visa-free travel especially given the potential to get citizenship in just over two years. I mean very few places have visa-free travel to the EU, Russia, Thailand, & Morroco, but Peru does, & they even have potential access to China, Japan, Australia, & New Zealand via the APEC Business Traveler's Card, but definitely Australia via an e-visa that makes them fairly attractive. I also like how they make it easy for their overseas citizens to vote & be represented in their legislature. There is a lot to be said for their commitment to the democratic process. And everyone talks about EU citizenship & freedom of movement in the Shengen Zone, but no one talks about Mercosur as much & both Peruvian & Chilean citizenship potentially open up most of South America as a place to live & work through their freedom of movement regime.
