Update: I somehow totally forgot about the bar at Hotel Gaythering! Hotel Gaythering is - you guessed it - a "gay hotel" on the other end of South Beach. There's a dive bar inside that is frequented by its guests as well as some locals who prefer a gay bar away from the tourist-heavy region. If you want to explore the popular gay bars in Miami Beach, I'd recommend just sticking to Twist and Nathan's 😎
Miami is no longer a gay town. Not like its heyday in the late 90's and 2000's. South Beach has really gone downhill. It's gross tbh. Had Gianni Versace not been murdered, he would have moved out a looooooooooong time ago. Sad really considering how beautiful it once was.
I used to go to Twist when I lived in SoBe in the mid 90s. I had some good times there as well as Warsaw, Kremlin, Amnesia for Sunday tea dance, and the club on Washington that used to be Prince's club. I also used to work at the Kenmore Hotel across the street from Twist. I moved to SoBe when I was 28 and lived there twice for a total of 7 years. I like to watch your videos because it makes me reminisce about my youth. I also miss 12th street beach, Ocean Drive, and Lincoln Road. After Hurricane Wilma, and being tired of being broke, I returned to my roots in SoCal and now live in Palm Springs with all the other old men like myself.😂 Have you met the other gay UA-camr who lives in SoBe named Thomas Matthew? He's in your age range and I think he is single. You 2 should get to know each other. By the way, good luck with your transition in finding your next job opportunity. I've also been in your shoes and I guarantee things will eventually fall into place. Take care, Skip
Oh wow funny to see how things have changed! Let me share with you some Gay Clubs that use to exist in Miami decades ago. There used to be one called Uncle Charlie's near US1 and SW 40th Street, Cheers on US1 and SW 72 Street, O'Zone on SW 57 Avenue near UM, Cactus Bar on Biscayne Blvd and NE 21 Street. In Miami Beach was Salvation's on 18th Street and West Avenue, Loading Zone on 14th Court and Alton Court, Torpedo on Collins Avenue between 6th and 7th Street, Warsaw Ballroom on Collins Avenue and Hispaniola Way, Score on Lincoln Road and Twist which is the only one that survived. Much success in Life handsome young man!
@@KevenTalks Yes there were few in The City as I mentioned! Also back then there were also other Clubs in Fort Lauderdale, back then Wilton Mannors was what it is today. One that my group of friends and I liked was The Copa, it was just like wha Twist is now but bigger and had an outside stage where The Drag Queens Performed.
@@alexanderpons9246 Yeah, the Copa was burnt down by arsonists who lived behind it throwing Molotov Cocktails on the tiki hutches. The fire department took its sweet time showing up to put out the blaze. In fairness to the residents who lived behind the club, I can imagine how the noise from their outdoor speakers would drive people batshit.
@@philambrez Not sure but if memory serves me right The Copa was off Federal Hwy close to Port Everglades and behind it was some industrial massive plant.
@@alexanderpons9246 You're right, but there were houses back there too constantly complaining about the noise. Ft. Laud was not very good at zoning way back in the day. Those houses had been there forever before the industry showed up. I almost bought a house that was right next to a 7-11, but the opera music they played 24/7 to keep the kids from hanging around made it a no-go for me. Luckily, the crime there now is horrible. Wasn't so bad back in the day.
Keven, When it's 103-degrees with 100% humidity in another month or so, you should visit Chicago. There's an entire neighborhood called "Boystown!" The city is like NYC only much prettier (no garbage strewn on the sidewalks because Chicago has alleys), more spread out and A LOT less frenetic. Friendlier too. Btw, how is the job hunt going?? Your followers are worried about how you're doing, baby!!! 🥰❤🧡💛💚💙💜
I remember, when I was much younger, when Ocean Drive was a bunch of modest hotels for seniors. I mean every hour you could hear an ambulance come and rescue some elderly person from whatever. That was back in the 1970s.
Im surprised that you didn’t mention that years ago there probably were 20 gay bars in Miami and now there are 3 or 4. I think it would have been an important observation and piece of information for your audience. In recent years, all of the gay nightlife has moved up to Wilton Manors (a small municipality adjacent to Fort Lauderdale). Miami/Miami Beach basically is no longer gay.
I'm not an expert on nightlife but I would have thought in a way it makes it better there being fewer gay bars because more gay men are going to accumulate there. If you got tons of gay bars you're probably going to get more straight people going there in order to fill them and for the bar to make the money to keep it afloat. They are going to start catering more to straight people in order to do that and then it just becomes more of a mixed club and less gay. Does that make sense? I'm sure they could do with a few more than 3, but you don't want too many of them. I've just noticed that in some of the cities where they have a lot of gay bars a some of them have become very mixed and barely like gay bars because they are filled with so many straight people. Straight attracts more straights.. I've seen groups of women outside a gay bar and then a straight group of men will pass see the girls and then go to that bar lol If those straight men had seen that bar was just packed with men they would likely not be interested as a lot of the single ones are out searching for girls to flirt with just as gay men are other men.
How could a gay bar last....in the City of Miami with a mere population of 3 million? Huh? Yea, tourists go to Miami Beach, but..........there's also a large city of Miami with hundreds of thousands of gays!
Interested if you have any insight into this. Sort of through mutual acquaintance got to know these two guys probably in mid 20s they go to gay clubs every weekend. At least one of them has mentioned hooking up with girl recently. Do you think they are at least DL? Or do you think there are truly straight guys that only go to gay bars?
True great points. I guess I could just find a delicate way to find out the story next time. I just got the sense they were trying to project as straight who knows
Shame you missed the heyday of gay bars in MIAMI AND Miami Beach. Uncle Charlie’s, Cheers, The Hole, Ozone, On The Waterfront… all in Miami, not on the Beach. I was at Twist the day it opened, right before Andrew hit. However best gay clubs that held THOUSANDS was 1235, The Warsaw, The Copa, Amnesia, literally held thousands of people. The mainland always supported gay bars. Look at how all the gay bars in Lauderdale are on the mainland, in Wilton Manors, not on the beach. Twist was always the smallest bar even after the expansion of next door incorporating 2 more rooms. The dance floor has always been tiny. The patio is refreshing, however back in the day most gay bars had patios, most notable, Cheers, Copa. Space used to be cool as well after hours in Miami proper. It was huge. Kremlin, Amnesia (foam parties and Sunday t dance). Paragon and Liquid were also cool. YES Miami WAS the gay Mecca. There were this many clubs plus Ft. Lauderdale. The 90’s were amazing, so glad to have grown up there.

I feel like maybe there are few bars because twist would be hard to compete with? Honestly I am with you, nights at gay bars are a mixed bag. The benefit is meet so many people. But So many guys old enough to be grandpa hit on me and offer to buy drinks. I’m not in mood to share life story to these people generally. How do you shut these moments down?

Haha exactly. I need to start shutting more down immediately when get red flag because often times when I let them buy drink they take it as permission to touch inappropriately and make sexual advances
Many years ago (like 20+) I had a big gay drug filled Miami weekend that started at Lucky Chang’s and then we went on to twist and then (remember this) is like 1999 / 2000 we wound up that this huge gay super club in wait for it downtown Miami in a warehouse but I don’t remember the name ….. of it ! Off topic but Rawhide in New Orleans' French Quarter is decent. The night I went the dark room wasn't really popping except for a few people in the bathrooms. I've heard Phoenix in N.O. has an upstairs where the action is wicked. Gotta make it there before the end of the summer.
@KevenTalks It's amazing, especially the Quarter. Park your car and everything is walkable: clubs, restaurants, open container drinking, party atmosphere 25 hrs a day, 8 days a week. Very friendly to LGBT. Fun, fun, and more fun. 😍
Yes there was a black gay bar in north west 7th ave and 79th street called BOI. There were really cute all male nude dancers. Black, whites and Latins dancers. It is closed now.
