- Geology is not my strong point so if I got anything wrong apologies, I don't script anything.
I certainly don't script rants, and I'm getting a little tired of having to continually do them. Apologies for that too. I'm not a grumpy git, just passionate about our rights, rights that in recent years have been eroded. I know some wont like it, but the channel is pretty stagnant when it comes to new subscribers so I'm not too worried. People prefer to watch others try to sell them some new fancy gear, I get it. I'm still using stuff I got in the '80's lol.
Like other UK uplands Dartmoor has it's unique points, but especially so in England and Wales for it's right to camp (I know it's tolerated in other areas, but here it's a right).
With this again in jeopardy it's more important than ever that the people using the National Park do so with full respect for the few sensible byelaws. Any little departure from these byelaws, especially when filmed and placed on UA-cam, could be used as evidence and may even affect the toleration for camping shown in other places.
Very interesting facts about Dartmoor and I agree with your rant and it pisses me off when I see people flying drones on Dartmoor just messing about while I cant fly my drone on Dartmoor but would have some nice footage promoting our stunning Dartmoor 😁👍
You are right for speaking out. It's a shame some people don't care. Very frustrating. Very valid points. I see so many places were people had illegal campfires in places that don't allow them. 😞 And hacking away trees is definitely criminal damage. I see that too, unfortunately.
As always, great historical content that we know and love from your channel mate. Poor Amanda slipping at the beginning! Look like a ice slop that bit guys!
It's a funny one, very frustrating that we, the ones who have took the time to learn the ways of the outdoors, LNT and all that comes with spending amazing time in these national parks and learning the ways.
There's been an influx of new outdoorsman on UA-cam recently which is good in many ways but you have to take the time and learn!
Fingers crossed people have motivated him enough to take the video down himself eh!

Thanks Ant. Yeah I've noticed a lot of new channels, and good luck to them. But as you say they need to use common sense and learn from channels such as yours, Rick's or Dan at CLB. I'd love it if one of the big channels, Simon or Mike, would do a film. Not chastising people (that's my new job) but putting across LNT in a big way, explaining that we have byelaws and encouraging people to read them before entering any of our national parks.
There's always the few who end up ruining it for everyone 😢. I believe there's a way to report videos showing illegal activity to UA-cam to have them removed. You may want to try that route. Thanks for another history lesson. Atb
Thanks Larry. I'm not going down that route just yet, not sure YT would be that interested, I'd prefer he took it down himself and issued an apology. Be the 'big man' and earn some respect. I've been watching your recent trips, loved the canoe film with the little one, nice surprise to see the prettiest boat on YT on the water. Not always able to comment due to watching on a TV, but always there (eventually).

Interesting re rant; I just posted a comment on the most recent video by whom I suspect you refer to and now the comments section has been disabled. Nothing rude but simply a cut/past re bylaw section 8 about fires.

I had a quick search, and I think I saw the video you mentioned. I usually stick to the rule of if I'm allowed to be there in the day, I feel OK staying there in the night, but rules are rules, and to film yourself doing it doesn't make sense? Leave no trace and don't destroy anything. Like you say, they will spoil it for us all.
I agree, but if you get caught on private land its likely to harm few...in a national park it can harm hundreds or thousands. The owners could deny access that can affect potentially millions of visitors.
Enjoyed the video. Its good to have a RANT! Seems to be a lot to rant about these days..........I seem to have one every day! If I was watching the right video there was someone with him from Dartmoor surely he should know better..........!
You'd be surprised at how many people live on or around the moor and have no clue. It's just a barren wasteland that rains a lot to them.

Great you have reported him, I wonder is he a stooge of Darwell? LOL I am going to look for it now. Hopefully the supreme court will see the sense or there is no point in National Parks.

can't believe some people, it takes on level of dumb to do those things, but a whole new level of dumb to vid and post it.
You'd have to wonder what goes through the minds of some, other than fresh air on a windy day.
If Alexander Darwall is successful in his appeal to The Supreme Court then I presume it will be back to the consent requirement that preceded the first appeal Si. I haven't seen the particular video you refer to but I have seen others, usually newcomers to Dartmoor, that have camped outside the permitted areas or lit fires through lack of knowledge that a camping map exists or no knowledge of the by-laws regarding fires. Subsequent videos have shown that they are following the rules and have read the comments about their transgressions. The recent documentary Mr Bates vs The Post Office has shown that public opinion can have a dramatic effect on politicians especially now they would genuinely like your support this election year. Guess the pot is going to be vigorously stirred by the campaigners before the appeal and if the evidence of a UA-camr ignorant of the rules is used it can be counterclaimed by hundreds of other videos of campers who stick strictly to the by-laws. I don't think it will come to this because Mr Darwall is trying to establish that open air recreation does not include wild camping. Regards Keith
I wish I could be that confident, the first ruling went in his favour, based on the few that ruined it during lockdown and the fewer still that may have caused damage on his land.
I'm not sure what any new rules will come into force (if he wins) will be, like you I assume it'll be consent. I know a few people have commented on his video about his behaviour and he's stopped comments, we'll have to see what he does from here on in. But I get the feeling he's not the kind to take it all on the chin or learn. Time will tell.

He's paused commenting on that vid.....but you can comment on all his other ones👍
I wanted to alert the park service to it first and give them some time. I had hoped to comment but it seems he's had a few already and stopped comments.
