It's 2024 and you still see R model Macks, love em!!!!
Beautiful truck! What a sweetheart, And a Big THANK YOU to the Stone Family for letting him show it to us (:
The R model Mack one of the best trucks ever
I recall when the new Mack R models were on the road, running through my village of Hempstead, NY in summer of 1966, I was 13 -1/2 years old. The first I saw was an R-600 tandem for Shell Oil pulling a 9,200 gallon all aluminum tank trailer of gasoline. The tractor had red wheels, six cast spoke, different cast spoke than the one shown, no stainless-steel hub cap, just a smaller diameter cast steel flat bearing cover with Mack written on it. It was fast and quiet. The other new R model tractor, right at that time, was a short hood (short BBC) version of the R-600, it was a Mack model U-600, written on the side of the truck, for American Oil Company. It was a red tractor, tandem, with six cast spoke wheels, pulling a 9,200 gallon gasoline tank trailer. At that time Amoco still ran another older Mack, a maybe 1963 Mack model B-83 tandem, with a V8 Maxidyne 865 CID, non-turbo, engine in it, it had the V8 symbol on the side of the hood, single vertical exhaust. It had a larger more squared edged radiator than the regular B models of the day, more sq. in. frontal radiator area for the V8 engine. Good times they were!
My truck driving career started in 1989 in one of these trucks. I was 21 years old and didnt know any better but when that truck was in low range it would pull 4 tanks going the opposite way. Wasnt very fast but WOW it had pulling power. And that was something back then.
Man! This is a thing of beauty! An art work! A masterpiece! I bet this could pull the zipper with trailer & all.
Man, like a treasure hiding in plain sight. I wonder how many truck guys and gals saw it and figured it was just another R...and it was a registered and working truck until just this year! Amazing. 🤠👍
Not a trucker but I love old trucks. To me this is a classic and brings back memories when these were commonly seen working. I would pay good money to get to play around in a big parking lot hooking up and "trying" to back trailers with one of these or any old tractors for that matter.
Now THAT's a Beautiful Dog!
MY HUSBAND DROVE ONE OF THESE FOR LINDSLEY HOME CARE CENTERS TAMPA FLORIDA DISTRIBUTION CENTER. IT WAS THE BEST RIDING SINGLE AXLE MODEL R MODEL THAT HE EVER DROVE.
Sweeeeeet! Great story to go with this girl.
Holy crap! HOW COOL IS THAT?!
Cannot wait to see this gem
The Mack duplex transmission, 5 speed with 2 speed auxiliary
I like it when someone keeps on using a truck for truck stuff even if it's an antique or Museum or show truck worthy I like the idea that it's still just like the guitars I play it doesn't matter how old it is if it still works you can still use it to do the work this is a cool truck
What a rare item! R-model number 1, which really wasn't a full R-model, more of a demonstrator truck for the upcoming R-model. Fantastic!
Wow! What a gem! Not a big Mack guy, but this truck is way cool!👍
That is BEAUTIFUL !!!!
Nothing beats a twin stick, a lot of fun and art
Drove a back up 49 Mack in the 50’s once in a while with the duplex tranny. Big 6 gas motor, pulled 32 hundred gal art deco Texaco trailer. U gotta be an old man like meto remembers these
I am not old enough to remember your good old days but my uncle ( mom’s brother ) has a 1977 Mack, 5 by 4 transmission still working and earning money pulling gas tanker
This truck is Museum worthy and show truck worthy for sure not every truck grabs me but this one certainly did
I drove an old GMC single axle (no power steering) pulling a 40’ trailer around Chicago. I had Popeye arms just from going around corners and backing up.
Gotta love a single stack Mack with a window in the back. Thanks for the walk around.
That’s my dad!!
I drove a 1980 R, s/a with a 300 and trxl 107 one of my all time very favorite truck
Test drove a Mack in early 60’s for crown oil in Mpls, Hi torque 6 diesel with 5 speed . Put in hi gear at 30 mph roared up to 60 mph. Took it back to the Mack dealer on. university ave in St. Paul next day , told the guy I really liked it and he went upstairs and got me a bulldog ash tray.
That’s a very special Mack
That's a cool truck and story. I've never seen the same hood plaque before. I've always liked
the looks of the R model. There used to be a lot of them in my area that were used for log trucks
and dump trucks. I drove one for about two years. Never had any problems with it but I'm not
a big fan of the Mack engines.
My grandfather started teaching me how to drive his log truck when I was 9 years old (1970),
and the truck he had at the time was the predecessor to this truck, it was a B model Mack.
It had a Cummins with 5x4 transmissions. It was all I could do to push the clutch in...
Wow! That is a very cool piece of trucking history no doubt! I hope that if the Stone family ever sells it, it ends up in the Mack Museum. It's probably the right place for it to live out retirement.
Hello from Britain. Lovely old girl. I do love a very basic wagon.
Surely being No1, they will do the right thing and at least give her a birthday and a clean up, and let those of us who cherish and respect these gems see it?
I thank you for making a lot of people happy with this.
Truck on.
🤟😎👍🚛🚛🚛
It is clean and well taken care of. My tour videos are my way of sharing & documenting privately owned rigs. Private owners have no obligation to let anyone and everyone see their possessions. I’m thankful it was even at 1 show, and the driver was happy to make this video :)
That Bostrom seat is very memorable,, when backing in a tight spot I could stand up ,crouched over and cut the steering wheel hard over while watching my mirrors,,,😅
That is a beautiful old bulldog. Would love to take that old girl for a drive. Old men didn’t wear out old trucks. Old trucks wore out old men!!!!
I would bet the later truck had the Triplex, 5 speed and 3 speed auxiliary
Didn't Mack also have a 5 X 4?
@@brucewinningham4959yes and a 6x4 and a 4x4
Yes, it was called the Wuadraplex@@brucewinningham4959
Quadraplex
that paint job with the pinstriping is not Plain Jane that is a gorgeous sexy paint job that is the sexy truck right there I wish I could go for a ride
Who has driven an old model Mack gasoline burner? May I "assume" it may be rare to find one today that is still running?
I have a 1970 R 608 fire truck with a 707 cu in gas made a pickup bed on it. Look up Thomas Nine on Miss flatbed Red. At York Pa, June 6-8
@@thomasnine2595 -- THANK YOU for the info.
Cool
Nice keeper, how can a Mack be denied? 🐓
never understood why the fuel pump was on the right side.....bizarre
My next door neighbor in Marion, KY. Dad was a farmer he had a Single axle
R model Mack I'm not sure the year
But it was Orange and white that classic 2 tone paint white on top, black frame. Dayton rims. Me and Chad got into a knock down drag out fight as 4 yr olds do. Over who had the better truck. My dad's COE Freightliner or Chads mack. Dad settled the argument by whooping us both.
Ein Lkw der noch Gast komplett aus Metall gebaut wurde. No Plastik fantastic
Is it a lot of work to change a certain Model of Mack Cab to a different Model of Mack Chassis (like from a R Cab to a B Chassis)? Or, does it depend on exactly what is being changed from what to what?
there was a kit for it
با اینکه سالیان درازی از تولید این کامیون می گذرد اما به طور شگفت انگیزی بدنه آن همچنان مانند روز اول ساخته شدن در کارخانه سالم و بدون نقص است.
Do your home work i think this was the truck in a sales add when it first came out....mack truck add for the r model first year
I think you meant ‘Do your homework. I think this was the truck in a sales ad when it first came out. It was a Mack truck ad for the R Model the first year.’
I do plenty of my own research and work. Make your own videos if you’re not happy with mine.
@MissFlatbedRed I did not mean my comment as getting off as hateful at all il look and see if I can find the add that would be something if it was proven the same truck . Good day
🎉❤❤❤❤❤❤
IF ITS BUILT ON A B model.frame, then that would make it a BCR .
you must be correct except it was production or test lab built so they gave it a chassis vin i would assume to make it street legal. good thing they didnt have titles back then. ill bet that thing has numerous vins if you know where to look
