I'd call Teresa&Maria an earworm 😍I've had it on repeat for the past couple of weeks and it does stand out among other selected songs. It has an unusual structure in the sense that it comes full circle with that beginning and the ending. I also think that the experience we'll get in Malmo is going to be totally different, sound wise and def improved staging. Thanks for stating your opinion without being toxic. Love Eurovision content from you. I was really into the contests when I was a kid, and this series has rekindled my affection for it & made me genuinely care about my country's stamp on the musical world from a cultural standpoint. Don't let the naysayers get ya down, all the rest of us see how daft it is to remain tuned in and simultaneously complain about extra free content.
To me it's the kind of entries that might not make my personal top10 but I'd totally understand and respect if it won.

About Vidbir voting, so app Diya (Action) is where are electronical passports, drivers license, you can do a lot of legal stuff like gave rights to drive your car etc. And recently you can vote there, so the malfunction started when 15k people tried to open app per 1 second. That's why it's crushed. And because Jamala insisted that people also should choose a winner so voting continued for next entire day and main criticism was that next day voted more fandoms or instagram followers rather than people who watched vidbir. many people now attacking alyona alyona/jerry heil because ziferblat didn't won.
And its a little bit of whole drama that's going on about vidbir.
I think it's not just fandoms voting, because fandoms would be watching anyway, wouldn't they. But many people only heard about voiting, because Diia crashed. And Jerry and alyona are the only ones they've heard before, so they voted for them.

Зараз багато внутр. питань люди просто замовчують, щоб не йти на конфлікт(бо завжди дилема чи не буде користь від вирішення проблеми меншою ніж та купа хейтспічу, що посипеться при в процесі ). але ж питання не зникають, а просто починають накопичуватись...
Тому й така максмальна концентрація уваги від суспільства, там де "зараз це допустимо". (Може ніхто не признається відкрито, але дюди сумують за гарними "срачамаи" - так в процесі бувало гаряче, але прийняття якогось загального рішення все ж таки більше обєднувало(народ в ті моменти потрохи ставав нацією) й знімало в цілому напруження між людьми
(Принаймні я так запасєяттав, ті часи. Але здаєтсья, що це було настільки давно., десь в іншому житті, яке вже не повернути)

Nova is preaching some truth this NF season! That thing about fan-made "full versions" is SO specific but dead on! I feel like this song lacks verses? It feels like snippets from 3 or 4 different songs all kinda thrown together that don't fully gel. As good as that rap section is, it feels like it goes on way too long. Individually the sections are all beautiful and nice, but I've never had structural issues in a song tank it so hard for me before. I'm thrilled that Jerry is finally getting to go to Eurovision, but When God Shut The Door was much stronger than this. Much love for standing strong in your opinions.

These reactions are my only take on Eurovision cos I barely pay attention to it, so thank you! I think Ukraine's track is my favourite thus far but it does feel like it's lacking something.

I think that it doesn't (ironically) translate to international audiences, but for someone who understands both Ukrainian and English it's such a powerful song with a great message

@@Hana9916 first off all, the church is ass (not the religion itself really mind you), second of all, Teresa's name is more of a figure of speech now, and she's not glorified in the lyrics anywhere

I know exactly what Nova is talking about with the fan-made songs from snippets! I loved a Lady Gaga "Born This Way" version that was done that way from what I'm assuming was a recording of a stadium practice session before the actual song came out.
This is a very meaningful song, I wish you could understand the core. It's not religious, it's rather archetypical. It's about strong powerful women changing the world and how humans make their life choices every day. It's linked to the ongoing resiliance in Ukraine as well..
The main message of the song (repeated also in English) is that all the divines were born as human beings, so it's up to the individuals how they walk their path, up to sainthood. And in the rap part, it's about overcoming the pressure from the society and obstacles, with the support from ancestors being always with us.
I like parts of the song and I think the mood it sets is beautiful. I haven't heard the song before so I need to hear it a few more times.
I'm looking forward to your video about the Finnish song because I'm not sure how to feel about that one.

hi from UA! Thank you for your thoughts, I agree for the most part (disagree with it being worse than Tvorchi tho lol). Regarding the religious themes, It's not actually about religion; it's about women (if you read the lyrics you'll understand, the lyrics are about uplifting women and sharing our struggles, saying that there are women that you can look up too, who also struggled a lot in their lives, hence "walking barefoot on a razorblade"), and it resonated with me because of that, and also inspired me, so i'm very glad it won the Vidbir, though I will be waiting for the tweaked version, hope they do rearrange some parts and make the climax a bit more impactful

I like that I can relate to your opinion on Ukraine, as my counter to Norway xD Because ultimately it is, as you said, a matter of "getting" the song. Sometimes we will get them faster, sometime later, but we can still see their technical value Chorus. No intro, no outro, no bridge, no pre or post chorus.
And while music is very flexible, and as Nova said, it feels put together from not a lot, I think this could've been the intention?
Jerry Heil, quasi famously, got very religious when war started, which is clear in her transition from Vegan to When God Shut The Door [her previous Vidbir atempts]. And Theresa & Maria has this folkish, church hymn-like quality. Not even mentioning the production, which, as per usual for Ukraine, is otherworldly.
Finally someone who agrees! I think it’s a decent song, but winner? I just don’t get why people are saying it !
9:05 I believe a decent chunk of the dissatisfaction with the religious part comes from the Teresa references since it's nowadays wildly believed that Mother Teresa was a horrible person, but of course the song doesn't necessarily glorify her, I'm not sure.

That’s so frustrating how it nearly gets there but doesn’t. Still a great song but can’t see it winning sadly.

The rap part picked up steam and felt like it was building to something... But then it felt like they slowed down into the harmonies. The artist doing the rap piece looked like she got bored when her solo was over. It needed something like a third person or different voice jumping in right there with a belting part or something. Something melodic and high energy that made people want to join in singing.

I'm definitely in the I like it but I'd never choose to put it on camp. It's a great vocal and well presented, it just doesn't grab me.
The glorification of Mother Theresa really puts me off to, there were plenty of religious female figures who weren't hugely problematic they could have chosen.

The lyrics below absolutely have religious themes and these themes put me off personally as well. I understand the meaning of the song, but the message could have been conveyed without these religious themes.

Also on the like-not-love train. It reminds me a little of Horehronie (Slovakia 2010), a fan favourite which also starts great, but then doesn't really go anywhere. Ukraine are probably going to stage the hell out of this, though, so I assume it'll qualify and do well, and I'm not going to be too mad about it. I still preferred Melovin, this time (didn't like his 2018 song though).

The voting in Sanremo is so complicated I don't think we'll ever fully understand how a winner is ultimately selected 😅
@@Novympia considering they basically change it every year AND each evening of the festival seems to have a different voting mechanism, who can blame you 😂 (anyway, people will always complain, this year was especially bizarre tho). Anyway it's a mix of experts who weigh something% and televote that weighs something else%
