In the mid-90’s I worked an event at my college in LA with Tom Arnold. The next day my relatives were in town from Illinois and wanted to go to PH… when we walked in NOT only was Tom Arnold actually eating there BUT he pointed at me and say “Hey, I know you!” The family was suitably impressed 🤣
You should definitely watch Eddie Burback's most recent video. He just did a road trip where he ate at every rainforest cafe still operating. Pretty hilarious.
We had one in Zurich, which didn't last long. Mediocre, overpriced food, a compulsory 20 minute wait at the bar, while your table "is readied", only to be shown into an empty, cavernous restaurant. People went once just to see what it was like. No one ever went back. It was horrible!
Something I find interesting is that Planet Hollywood jackets have became pretty trendy over the last few years. Urban Outfitters have started remaking and selling them, plus they’ve been referenced on It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia too.
I ate at the one in Washington DC while on a high school trip in the late 90s. The food was just ok but you're definitely right about the merchandising. Almost all of us ended up buying a t-shirt or something else from the gift shop.
The weekend of the Grand Opening in Orlando. I went there with co workers after a Christmas party , since were dressed up on the way in we met Charlie Sheen .
During a “Spill Your Guts“ sketch on his show James Corbin asked Arnold Schwarzenegger if he’s ever eaten anything at a Planet Hollywood… Arnold Schwarzenegger‘s apprehension at answering the question honestly was great! Search for the clip on UA-cam.
My mom won a radio contest to attend the grand opening at the San Francisco location I’ll never forget the picture of her and her friend reaching for Sylvester Stallone while he ignored them 😂
It's a bit obscure, but you might want to talk about Dive!, which was a submarine themed restaurant that Jeffrey Katzenburg and Steven Spielberg worked together to make a place that combined high quality sandwiches with an immersive experience for audiences. There were two locations in Los Angeles and Las Vegas in the early 90s.
We went to the Planet Hollywood in Disney World back in 1999, and the only experience I had worth remembering was seeing Christopher Lloyd's costume from Who Framed Roger Rabbit.
I met Kevin Sorbo at planet Hollywood in Las Vegas when I was like 14 in the 90s. He came in, shook hands, mine being one of em (even though I had no clue who he was) and then he patted me on the shoulder and went on to put his hands prints in concrete.
I ate at a Planet Hollywood in Chicago as a kid in the 90’s. I was with all of my friends and our moms and it seemed like so much fun. Went to another one in Mexico in 2004 and it was okay. Decided to try again in 2018 in NYC and it was like a ghost town in there. I had no idea it had gone downhill so much.

I visited PH once just to check out the memorabilia (we had one of the Beauty School Dropout costumes from Grease that I wanted to see). I got a chance to visit the restaurant in Las Vegas last year, and it’s pretty excellent. The food is delicious, the atmosphere is nice, and the memorabilia is cool. I even got a t-shirt from the gift shop after we eat. It’s kinda sad that Planet Hollywood has been falling from relevancy after the novel fell off, but good thing the brand is not going away forever, and heck I even visit Buca di Beppo and Earl of Sandwich, in which they both own. You made a great video man, can’t wait to see your future videos soon, and I would love to see a video on The Official All Star Cafe one day. Keep up the excellent work!
I used to take my nephew to the Planet Hollywood in San Diego, on the end of Horton Plaza. That mall was a trip itself, looking like an Escher print come to life. We would go there every year during Comic Con, back when it was still held downtown.
The first time I ever went to PH was in the summer 1998. It was my tenth birthday and we drove from Ocean Isle Beach to Myrtle Beach to go to the Pavilion and Ripleys museum, and stopped to eat at PH on the way back up north. When we were leaving, we saw an area that was being closed off with tall curtains with the logo on them. I was able to peak through and it was Kevin Bacon and his brother doing promos for their show at House of Blues. That’s as exciting of a time I think anyone could realistically expect at a PH location.
The Phoenix Planet Hollywood had D.B. Sweeney’s pants from “Fire in the Sky” and we’d make a big deal out of it like it was the holy grail of movie memorabilia
I lived in moscow at the time and me and my parents visited the place a few times. I had some merch like the piggy bank, and some children books bought for me there, which i sadly no longer have. Its still mesmerising when i remember it. You were greeted witha huge Terminator life size statue spinning at the entrance, flashy interrior and movie music. It was unlike anything i’ve seen back in day and since. The restaurant was split in three sections, the shop which was a trip downstairs, and then the two sections of the restaurant. We always liked to sit in the second area where the lighting was dim, the walls were painted in a dark cosmic colour pallete with planets, stars and glowing moons, sprinkled with space movie memorabilia. I don’t remember the food but nothing to complain about as a 5y.o. kid. I kinda want to get some merch from ebay now lol
I've never been to a Planet Hollywood because I got married in 1990 and suddenly became poor and uncultured. 😂 But that one trip I made to a Hard Rock Cafe the year before pretty much filled the "novelty dining" hole in my life forever. 🤣
Love your videos soo far and looking forward to see what you come up with next. I dunno if you remember Medieval Times but that would be a cool video. Thanks again
I never ate there, but there was a Planet Hollywood located in the Horton Plaza shopping mall in downtown San Diego, California. After it closed the space was converted to a Sam Goody's Musicland store.
When I was about 13 and went to Orlando I really thought Planet Hollywood was a Space themed restaurant, their gift shop was all space-themed with space ice cream and since its a dome I thought it was like eating in a planetarium. I was so excited to eat there and when we went inside the restaurant I believed they had a batman suit at the entrance and I thought "Huh, that's a weird thing to have at a space-themed restaurant." I felt so disappointed when we actually went inside only to hear music that was so loud we had to scream to order and to talk. "At least the food must be good, this is Guy Fieri's menu!" I thought to myself, but nope we had hamburgers that were way overseasoned I felt I was biting into pepper instead of meat and I felt so bad since I was the one who wanted to eat there in the first place!!
The menu started awesome. First 5+ years PH had a menu that was genuinely good and no where near airport food. Chicken crunch in particular were very tasty and deservedly popular. So were Texas nachos. Menu definitely faded as they began to struggle but did not suck from the beginning
Chicken crunch... was that the Cap'n Crunch coated chicken strips? I remember ordering those at either PH or a Hard Rock Cafe when I was a kid on vacation. They were weird, man.
Chicken crunch were a PH appetizer and surprisingly good. I initially ordered out of curiosity, as i imagine many if not most people did. Whoever created them, thank you
I worked at the Las Vegas one when I was 16.....interesting and was made wrong. The upstairs had the big bathrooms and the downstairs had the small ones
I worked at the one in San Diego right before they closed. The head chef of that one used to work at the Vegas one. Told all types of good stories. I'd love to find that guy. Lol
I live in LA. BUT Planet Hollywood had GREAT food. Hard Rock does as well. I used to just go for happy hour since I worked in Bev Hills for a bit. Aww miss those days. And guess what? Actors and musicians did go there as well. So that's not a myth.
I just remember the food being underwhelming and bland. They seemed to forget they were a restaurant and not just a tourist trap. No focus on making the food good enough to come back.
I visited the London restaurant, I didn't stop to eat, but I did see some of the props. Judge Dredd's Lawmaster(they made the movie down the road at Shepperton Studios), Mr.Spock's ears, and a full size replica of Schwarzenegger as the Terminator (complete with damage). I bought myself a Planet Hollywood pin badge, which I still have.
Took my kids when they were little, little to the Planet Hollywood in Orlando at what used to be Downtown Disney! Also took em to Rainforest Café there as well!
My favorite themed novelty restaurant growing up was "Mars 2112". IDK if there were any other locations, but my family went to Mars in NYC pretty much every year until 9/11 which ended our annual city trips in general.

I worked at the Union Square Macy's in San Francisco when the SF PH opened. We actually met San Francisco resident Danny Glover (who was a very nice man) while chowing down on that horrendous Capt. Back in the late 90s, my Dad and little sister learned how to make Captain Crunch Chicken, complete with honey mustard sauce. Whenever we all get together for Christmas, they always make it for our Christmas Eve food spread. It really is a pretty good dish.
There’s one here in Orlando but they removed all the nineties kitsch from it, which kinda takes away the purpose. I restaurant was literally in the shape of the logo- you walked into a giant blue ball with stars flying off of it.
I worked at PH in Reno, Nv. In the mid/late 90’s. The training for that job was no joke - so much memorizing! And at that time the food may have been overpriced but not horrible, the Chicken Crunch was definitely the most popular item. It started out with a bang but definitely crashed and burned.
I remember Planet Hollywood had great milkshakes. I hadn't been into milkshakes before or since but as a kid in Middle School on vacation Planet Hollywood had the best.
I have some great memories of the Planet Hollywood in my city of Phoenix, AZ. Some friends and I went to grand opening and got to see a lot of celebs walk the red carpet. I saw Bruce Willis and his band perform. We went every day for the first week of its opening and saw lots of stars. Ate Captain Crunch chicken tenders a table over from John Goodman. Shook Sly Stallone’s hand. Adult me realizes those appearances were a marketing gimmick but for 14 year old me it was incredible.
I worked at the PH location,in melbourne Australia, loved it,met heaps of overseas stars, and local celebrities, and enjoyed the food,it was a great experience, and we had the All star cafe next to us,which was cool. But never knew of the stuff behind the scenes, untill we were told,we were all going to be jobless, and, then they shut her down,so,this video is interesting.
I remember going to one of these about 20 years ago as part of a high school trip. Cool place at the time (this was around 1996/7.. of course the food was another thing that had little to be desired). Of course, back then while in high school, us kids didn't care.
I worked at the nashville planet Hollywood in the mid/late 90s. The training to be a server was brutal! We had to memorize so much stuff. We mad lots of money- there was an auto gratuity on parties. Most didnt notice it on their checks, so 80% of the time we were double tipped. The money was so good, before a shift, there were always servers in the breakroom who were willing to buy your shift for around 40$. But theyd make a couple 100 working :) All that being said, i hated that job!
I was a cooperate server trainer for PH 1993-96. I got to travel and open new restaurants and teach others to serve the “stars”. 🤪. It was the heyday of PH and a fabulous time. I’ve got stories.
I’ve never been to Planet Hollywood mainly because everything was over priced and it didn’t seem appealing to go. I’ve been to a few Hard Rock Cafes but they seemed more upscale and clean. Where as Planet Hollywood looked like a smelly old arcade or Chuck E. Cheese intended to bring in adults.
I went to the one in Chicago in the late 90s and thought it was neat with the movie props, but the burger that I had tasted like 9 Lives cat food. And that was the great cat food that my own cats dined on.
I heard about Planet Hollywood through the Turner Home Entertainment promos for Johnny Quest Videos with Space Ghost on the Laffalympic tapes. Wish I would had gone to the themed restaurant, even if the food quality will be less exciting. Glad I've been to Hard Rock Cafe at the Paramount Theater.
Never ate at one even though on two different occasions in two different cities one was literally across the street. Only watched the tourists give away their money for loud music and ( based on this video ) rest stop quality food marked up 500%.

When I was around 6 or 7 my parents would take me there in Las Vegas. Place creeped me out and had terrible food. Gave me nightmares.
But theyd make a couple 100 working :)
All that being said, i hated that job!
The clown car grease fire Cafe would have been more preferable than that.
I was a cooperate server trainer for PH 1993-96. I got to travel and open new restaurants and teach others to serve the “stars”. 🤪. It was the heyday of PH and a fabulous time. I’ve got stories.
I went to Planet Hollywood a few times in Hollywood, food was so so, drinks ok ☑️
So when's the Rainforest Cafe episode?
I went to the one in Chicago in the late 90s and thought it was neat with the movie props, but the burger that I had tasted like 9 Lives cat food. And that was the great cat food that my own cats dined on.
If we're talking theme restaurants, Fashion Cafe and it's crazy downfall must be explored
“Are you planning on eating at Planet Hollywood?”
You’re asking this right after you mentioned their investments in NFT’s??
I heard about Planet Hollywood through the Turner Home Entertainment promos for Johnny Quest Videos with Space Ghost on the Laffalympic tapes. Wish I would had gone to the themed restaurant, even if the food quality will be less exciting. Glad I've been to Hard Rock Cafe at the Paramount Theater.
I’d love to hear about the Rain Forest Café, that was my favorite as a kid!
,I still make Capn Crunch chicken tenders once in a while. I had forgotten where I first had them (PH Orlando).
Never ate at one even though on two different occasions in two different cities one was literally across the street. Only watched the tourists give away their money for loud music and ( based on this video ) rest stop quality food marked up 500%.
I didn't even realize there were still planet hollywoods that existed
You have to do a episode on the controversially named Sambo restaurant ,the Rise and Fall of Farrell's,or the WWE restaurant
I tenner both those restaurants, I thought sambos was owned by the parent company of dennys and the name e as changed for obvious reasons. I e as not aware of controversy surrounding farrell's do tell?
@@elizabethm888 oh there was really no controversy over Farrell's except the time a jet from a airshow slammed into one and a incident where Slective Service used the information from their birthday cards to send warnings to 18+ men to sign up for the draft after one of their brokers sold them the rights without the company knowing
@@kyleshiflet9952 thank you?! I was young when they were around my home town and all I really remember was ice cream and my best friend brother eating the (pig trough) I think.
Was sambos owned by Denny's parent co?
@@elizabethm888 no Sambo was it's own company there's still one left but got renamed 2 years ago to Chad's after the George Floyd protest now several were sold to Denny's but that's it
@@kyleshiflet9952 oh my God! Chad is my dirt bag ex husband's name! He left me with two kids and six months pregnant for a tramp! 😂
Damn, that was brutal.
And you pronounced Qatar properly. Bravo.
We had one in the Galleria in Houston, Texas. It was there for such a short time that when they removed the logo from the wall, there wasn't even a "stain" to prove it was there any length of time!
I always thought planet Hollywood was a video rental spot. Didn’t even realize they still exist 🤯
Ate at the Myrtle Beach PH... it was shaped like an actual planet and it had the PREDATOR suit displayed.
