Bruce McLaren was killed in a Can Am test June 2nd 1970, so he could not drive M19 1971 -- 1972. M23 was driven by numerous drivers more, Peter Revson, Jochen Mass, Mike Hailwood and Nelson Piquet included. And there was also McLaren M30, which did some races 1980.
There were NO MP/4-32 and 33 models. In the last 3 years, they were called MCL-32, 33, 34. MP/4 was synonymous with Ron Dennis. Now, he's no longer with us (with the team, he's not dead), it's gonna be the MCL prefix.
@Hemersonr Souza . . . I'm familiar with F1 racing from the 1960s, where the labeling of the M5A is a BIG error; as that model never had an engine cover, no wings, and the BRM V12 exhaust pipes were prominently displayed. The person producing this video post was a hack that created a click-bait post.
Based upon reading prior comments, and even from my own knowledge of F1 racing from the 1960s, this video post is rife with errors. That image of what is claimed to be the M5A is NOT that model; as there was no engine enclosure for the M5A, and the BRM V12 exhaust pipes were of a different configuration than what the image shows. That image claiming to be the M5A is a later McLaren model with a Ford-Cosworth engine.
I absolutely agree. Note: Bruce was killed in a testing crash in June 1970. So there are some inaccuracies stated here for the early years. Note: Peter Revson drove the M19C and the M23 with Yardley livery until the end of the 73 season. Whereas , Emerson Fittipaldi drove the 74 season. Note: Peter Gethin and Dan Gurney drove the M7B after Bruce's death. Thank the stars you don't do history of McLaren Can Am cars. Also McLaren designated the M1A & B were Can Am sports racers along with the M6 & M8 series. The Papaya Orange paint was adopted for all cars in 1967.
McLaren stopped using Honda engines since 2018 when they changed to the Renault engines. And the nomenclature or the cars changed in 2017 from MP4 to MCL

Peugeot had a great running in Le Mans with a V10 two wins. And it want to beat Renault which was also a French company, that was doing well since 1991. And won the titles in 92-93. So the engine proved to be strong, but unreliable. It simply didn't finish the races. Mclaren boss Ron Donnis still believed in the for 95. But Mercedes was unhappy with the results at the young team Sauber during the 93-94 stint. So they thought, we need to go an top tier team. They thought of mclaren. Williams and Bennetton already had works engines for 95. To be in Mclaren in 1995, Mercedes did a much better price than peugeot, and eventually the engines were kind of free and between the 96-97 seasons Mercedes would eventually buy Mclaren. Mercedes was not doing well in Fórmula 1. The unthinkable decision was to move to Mercedes. Mclaren Peugeot was better than Mclaren Mercedes in its first years, 8 podiums against miserably 2 respectively. The question should be why Mercedes? In that point of 1994, it went to be the fourth season with four different engine for Mclaren. At long run peugeot didn't went to be victorious at formula 1. Mercedes is supreme. But in 94 peugeot seems to be the right bet to beat the Frenchs at Williams and Bennetton.
Because that was the best choice back then. It was already a small miracle that the MP4/8 with a Ford engine could actually compete at this level in 1993. They had the client version, compared to Benetton (official Ford partner), thankfully the chassis was great (comparatively, Benetton did some poor weight balancing on the B193, I understand), and active suspension gave the top teams like McLaren a considerable advantage. Ron Dennis had to negotiate through the whole season both to keep Senna in, and to be supplied the best possible Ford engines, which he only got in the latter part of it. McLaren tried the Lamborghini engines from the Larousse team in Estoril in late 93, with apparently good success, but...Lambo wasn't ready to put in the money to make it evolve. In F1, when you can't evolve, you regress, plain and simple. Lambo was fed up with being with the worst teams, and not there anymore from 94' onwards. Peugeot wanted in, and due to what Paulo Lucio explained above, was viewed as a very tough F1 motorist in the making (the Le Mans-winning V10 was also a 3.5L, and Peugeot had been very strong in WRC beforehand). Do remember that being French and seeing compatriot Renault win in F1 does mean something on top. Mercedes wasn't even official in F1 until 95, they sponsored Sauber and Illmor, as they did in Gr.C racing, to little avail. And they were buddies, as they won had several championships with them in Gr.C. . All other 94' teams had either a contract set in stone with a manufacturer, or a Ford HB-series client engine, except Mugen-Honda, which switched in 93-94, but Mugen was small fry compared to mother company Honda, or Peugeot. And perhaps Ron Dennis hadn't liked Honda pulling out in the middle of the previous season, leaving him virtually engine-less. Effectively McLaren could go back to being a Ford HB-series customer (while Benetton in 94' had the much superior Zetec-R), have an unreliable, unevolving Lambo V12 engine, or try with Peugeot. And from Peugeot's viewpoint, McLaren was ideal too, as the other teams weren't front-runners much. McLaren-Peugeot was, on paper, a great wedding. The Peugeot V10 sucked in 94', but it was a relatively powerful & reliable engine through all the latter part of the 90s. A pity Jordan couldn't quite make it among the top teams reliably in spite of it, and the Prost chassis were terrible (Prost simply couldn't find money). The pressure for a 100% French team was big in France, and both partners felt it.
