My biggest problem with modern spongebob is that the whole tropical underwater aesthetic is almost completely gone.

Very agreed. The only marine thing about SpongeBob is that they're all fish, that's it. Old episodes had tar lakes, the flying Dutchman, and it seems like there were more marine creatures back then. @@thephoenixking1086

Tom Kenny's voice makes me really sad. It's Marge Simpson syndrome.
At least it's not as bad as Marge's VA. Kenny's still doesn't sound like it was put through a ringer.
Marge's sounds genuinely like something messed up there, Tom Kenny still can do really good work on other things, it just sounds like Spongebobs voice either isn't something he can do or something he wants to do anymore.
His voice was this deep in Season 1 and 2. I think he's just trying to go back to that. I heard that he's trying to do a deeper voice lately because a focus group of child participants preferred a deeper voice to a higher one. Google it.

@@mechajay3358 right I haven’t seen a new episode of SpongeBob in God knows how long but when I heard his voice on this video I was literally like “who the hell is that?”
100% agree. It was always a kids' show, but the old seasons very much felt like the writers were just having fun and writing something anyone could enjoy. The new episodes feel like they're talking down to the audience by comparison.
Never seen a more relatable comment about what I think of it now, and what makes even worse is the fact that insane moments and/or just fully nonsense or bonkers shows have been done well before since a lot of the jokes revolve around the absurdity at their disposal and since they use the potential of it, it’s pretty darn funny when it ever was used for a movie or shows idea, Even if it was only used FOR the humor instead. But I think new SpongeBob could’ve had the mix of the more chill and laidback atmosphere most of the older seasons aspired towards, since SpongeBob barely even started with the concept of just sheer insanity.
Very accurate
Stop the bs the old seasons wasn’t a kids show u boomer
Not just the first three. Up to s8 was enjoyable for adults
@@7Kazi7 agree to disagree, but I think the newer from 1-3 to even 4 and of course! the movie had a lot of clever if not forceful humor (done right) in the majority of their episodes outside of a couple of misses here and there. And with seasons 6-14, it feels like either the jokes are just…foot fetish or some kind of gross-out, if not, anything that would only appeal to the people who WOULD’VE been a kid during some of those seasons

What episode was that?
@@reversalmushroomI remember that scene but not the name…
SpongeBob the guy who tucks in each individual pickle? Doesn't make the each patty with love?
Yes he is.. it was literally canon
And Neptune literally spits the patty out to eat it again, because it tastes so good
@@misslady2639 Neptune was also technically canon until getting wildly different interpretations in the movies, much to everyone's confusion. Guess that hasn't changed with Squidward's mother in this episode.
That Krabby Patty line might be one of the stupidest contradictions this show has made. Why would SpongeBob imply that he puts no love into his Krabby Patties when there are numerous other episodes which show that SpongeBob puts more effort and love into making Krabby Patties than anyone else (which is why most other characters are really bad at replicating making Krabby Patties).
This
literally..
It's even mentioned multiple times throughout the show that love is an essential ingredient for the Krabby Patty recipe.
Having negative continuity has bitten this show in the butt for quite a while. They can take something long established and just throw it out, and not in the "what if"-sort of way. If they want to make Rock bottom into a weird fever dream that never existed, they could. It wouldn't make any sense, but it would give them a free episode when they are out of concepts for a week.
@@lpfan4491 They kind of did something similar with Rube Goldfish, where at first he was just a one-off character for some random season 11 episode that was heavily implied to not even be real and just a character everyone imagined. However, starting with "SpongeBob’s Big Birthday Blowout," Rube basically became a common reoccurring side character that they completely retconned him to be an actual real character and not just some imaginary character as implied by his debut episode.

The thing I immediately noticed was
•that is NOT Squidward’s mom. The animators cannot play it off like we’ve never seen Fools in April or Krusty Hotel, or even a modern episode like the one with Squidward taking advantage of sport equipment.
•that is not Mama Krabs’ voice. Real fans ALSO know that she had a voice similar to Mr. Krabs himself (Sailor Mouth, Mid-Life Crustacean)
I can’t really speak to Squidward’s mom as a character since the earlier seasons didn’t really show her or expand on her as a character a bit, but fans know that Mama Krabs is ICONIC. They are actively killing the show, killing off every single iconic character as well as poor Tom Kenny’s obviously HOARCE voice.
@AndyBlack-po6dtI said the same thing! And this was/is one of my favorite shows of all time
@AndyBlack-po6dtactually didn't they make the Patrick show? Did it not go well??
Didn't Mama Krabs have a changed voice in S4? They only did that to not make her sound like a man, and more of a woman.
@AndyBlack-po6dt Modern Spongebob feels like a soulless reboot of the original... Despite still technically being the same series.
Mama Krabs was played by Paul Tibbit
My mom thought that spongebob was always only for kids. I convinced her once to watch the whole of season 1 with me and she laughed more than once per episode so I think that she knew that she was wrong but she wouldn't think that if I showed her a modern episode
It will always be hilarious.
This is so sad to see. SpongeBob was ALWAYS intended to be an adult while still having a childlike spirit. It’s what made him, and the show as a whole, so unique. Sure, I wasn’t working or living on my own or driving in 2nd grade, but I could still relate to SpongeBob. And sometimes I couldn’t but that’s what made it fun! The characters lived in a world of endless possibilities. Not only did they have all the freedom of adults in the real world (while having none of the competence) but they also lived in a world with time travel and the Flying Dutchman and elderly superheroes. I just don’t understand why SpongeBob would need to be fully down to earth & relatable to kids 🤷♀️
It's like I say about "kids" cartoons needing a strong morale core to be "good" spongebob had that back in the day.
@@honeydarlinggaming9156 I don’t really think it’s the moral core that changed honestly. I think it’s just the style of comedy.
Momegedon is a fantastic idea for an episode. If only the old Spongebob staff would have made the episode, the execution would have been perfect!
It was written by Mike Bell, someone who worked on the series in seasons 2-4.
@@maxsteellatino3241 good point. i feel like the idea was not thought out, or developed enough. some more conflict from spongebob, mr. crabs, and squidward would have made the episode more interesting. like for example, in grandma's kisses the idea resembles momegedon, however the conflict from spongebob straddling the line between what it mean to be an adult and bo longer a kid gave the episode depth. whoch is what momegedon lacks.
I disagree hard. The concept seems to just be “what if mom did this?” Shallow and definitely not something that fits S1-3.

If anything, we shouldn't brush off quality because "it's a kids show". We should hold children's media to a much higher standard than adult media because adults have the mental capability to distinguish between good and bad material and morals, while children do not.
Disney's Wish movie was awful for this. "Just keep wishing" is a terrible line and downright immoral. The villian was not the bad guy until the plot needed it. Also, when the parent can also enjoy it, it can bring up a common ground to make bonding much easier/faster for you and your child for a better development of not only the child, but their bond with you.....which is important if you don't want to be cast into a nursing home when you come of that age.
Please treat humans like humans. Kids are just adults in training and deserve the best upbringing possible. And let's not forget the disaster that is Lankybox.
1. I personally don't think EVERY children's story needs to teach a lesson (but it's usually better if one does)
2. The story is one the most important aspects of any piece of media. Without a coherent story or conflict, the cartoons are just random hijinks happening to entertain kids.

Spongebob's voice sounds like it's starting to go, honestly.
This season is just in an alternate universe where everyone is trapped in a hell of some sorts or even VR.
The old seasons were the best of SpongeBob that we grew up on and it’s such an unfortunate thing that after Stephen Hillenburg died NICKELODEON has keep milking it out and it’s no fun anymore
Since when was Mrs. Krabs also cheap?😂
That's what I was wondering!
Are you kidding me, that's pretty much his whole character
Since like, season 2?
You'd think this would be unrealistic but imma be honest, even after getting a job my mom still acts like me and my older brother are still babies
Oh wow lol I was just watching this out of boredom but I can’t believe they made it out like SpongeBob doesn’t put love into his krabby patties. There are so many episodes that explicitly try to show how much love and dedication he puts into them. That line is just shitting on what his entire character has been about for the past 20 years
Remember that
SpongeBob is around 20.
Squidward is like 50
Mr Krabs is like 70.
if mr krabs is 70 his mother must be 100+ 💀
SpongeBob’s age was debatable. He’s neither a kid nor an adult, but could be in-between, according to Jay Lender (former storyboard artist of S1-S3)
@@The0320Angela i've always seen spongebob as in that weird 16-21 transitional stage
Google says he was born in 1986. He was 13 in season 1 and 38 now
bro i was saying the same thing after seeing your other video about how bad the new episode was. the problem is that around the mid 2010s, it feels like the networks decided to start focusing on making things for kids (10 and under imo) and leave out things for teens and all ages
that's why disney cancelled the owl house. around 2020 disney channel decided to age their target audience down from 9-14 to 6-11 and the owl house didn't fit that new direction, since the fanbase already largely skewed older than the previous target audience, since the show's fandom is mostly teens/young adults, but due to the target demographic being shifted even younger, they didn't have the tween overlap to rely on like gravity falls did
I blame the conservative right wing parents for demanding and expecting kids networks to be just kids networks and complaining about kids networks doing inappropriate things.
I didn't even know spongebob was still getting new episodes. It should probably have ended 10 years ago.
I see, that they changed the design of Mrs. Tentacles.
Yeah, a new hair style.
Old school SpongeBob was for everyone
Old Spongebob was made for people who never grew up, New Spongebob is made for people who actually like cartoons.
@@JohnBrian-wm8fw that is like saying if you don't like the new Disney star wars then you don't like sci-fi
@@JohnBrian-wm8fwfor people who like cartoons made for little children*
@@EllisHudsonn That argument applies to all kids shows, but nice try though.
@@donthespotter6550 Difference is Modern Spongebob is good while Modern Star Wars is propaganda made for product.
i really like the chill format of these videos! pairs great with a meal.
This is what happens if you let the show go on for too long.
Yeah, don’t get me wrong I love SpongeBob but this show should have been put to rest a decade ago.
The first movie is the best ending for the show!
(Comment Wrote by: Just Talk) Just imagine this one day. The last episode of spongebob. Spongebob finally got his drivers license. Squidward finally became a famous musician and artist. Sandy makes a groundbreaking scientific discovery. Mr. Krabs makes a million dollars and retires in style and passes his formula on to Plankton to continue the business and they shake hands calling eachother brothers. As for patrick, well, he proves to the world that mayonaise is in fact an instrument. The gang gathers one last time to frolick in jellyfish fields. The camera slowly zooms out over bikini bottom as this song begins to play and we hear that french narrator calmly say, "Ahh, bikini bottom. Here we leave our nautical friends. And as they say, Fis for friends who do stuff together, U is for you and me, N is for anywhere and anytime at all, down here in the deep blue
sea". (Credits)
honestly that'd be a terrible ending to the show lol
@@Xhepyxopilano it wouldn't. I like it very much and see it as in character.

I don’t like the redesign of Patrick’s parents in the Patrick Star Show
they never redesigned his parents, for people who claim to LOVE seasons 1-3 y'all seem to forget the point that Patricks parents in the show were always NOT his real parents
@@Xhepyxopila yeah but they were shown at the end of that episode, patrick's real parents bothered squidward and squidward brought them to patricks house
@@TheAzure_Guardian I genuinely forgot about that cause Patrick's real parents weren't memorable characters
I love your pacing of these videos. Slow, but extremely interesting and fun to watch and listen to
Spongebob not making Krabby Patties with love is the single most largest load of bullcrap I've ever heard
It's like this show took a ton of hints from Nick Jr. programming and became hyped up on sugar. I would have preferred the staff on the show get their own shows to work on rather than running a property to the ground.
I think Nick Jr. Is calmer than this show in some ways
A good kids tv show is when themes are about growing up and hidden adult references that is enjoyed by both kids and adults but now there has been a trend of tv shows that does the opposite and basically insultingly everyone intelligence
You start as SpongeBob as a kid and somehow at some time realize you have become Squidward down the road.
I love your channel, good Spongebob-related content isn't easy to find but you definitely earned my sub
There’s close to no continuity in SpongeBob, but that single line separates old sponge with new Robert. Like how long has he been cooking without it?
Ever since Season 8

Going on a binge of your videos but you have managed to quantify what I couldn’t quite do when I saw the later seasons. In terms of vibe, story and character development it all went off a cliff. I must admit the one thing I always noticed was how the newer episodes relied almost entirely on the Krusty Krab episode after episode
I feel lucky to have grown out of the show by season 9-10
unfortunately I don't really remember watching it all that much, even though it was my favorite show.

@@Breakerchannel1season 10 was good but season 11 was when it got downhill again, season 12 simply just dug it’s grave and season 13 just buried it
How can you grow out of something for all ages like Spongebob?
This is what growing out of means;
"To outgrow something is to become too big to fit in it, or to grow too mature for it
to stop having an interest in something or stop doing something as you become older"
@Breakerchannel1 season 9-11 are a MAJOR improvement over 6-8, you must be blinded by nostalgia
@@obd9660 because I got older and lost interest in spongebob lol
SpongeBob is 33 in his drive license
Guess what happens when out of touch billionares get a hold of things . You get this
11:50 very true. I don't think today's kids will remember Spongebob as we do with the early 2000s ep's, not only for nostalgia but the good quality in every aspect, from individual characters to the messages and humor

"Modern SpongeBob is only for kids" - you obviously haven't seen the recent episode "Tango Tangle" or the Rule 34 art that resulted of the tango instructor Suzie Groove
spongebob making krabby patty’s with love is literally a mirror of the show and how it’s no longer made with love but pumped out for money
Man, they took my childhood show and gutted it like a trout...
2:22 spending willy nilly?
You don't know your son, he's in the dictionary as an example for greed
Spongebob season 9 came out 12 years ago...
The episode is... fine, but can be made a lot better if they just kept characters more in-line with their personalities and relationships.
My attempt at writing a plot:
ACT 1: It's "Bring your Mom to Work Day" at the Krusty Krab, Spongebob brings his mom because of course, even Mr. Krabs does because of upholding company policy or some other reason, Squidward doesn't but his mom shows up because Spongebob doesn't want Squidward feeling left out. Spongebob and his mom are thich as thieves and get along very well (heck, you could even take that "Making Krabby Paties with love" bit and turn it on it's head by saying Spongebob learned how to make food with love because his mom taught him). Mr Krabs respects his mom, but doesn't want her interfering with his business, merely using her as prop for how sweet of a boss and business owner he is. Squidward on the other hand has no interest in interacting with his mom whatsoever and keeps her around.
ACT 2: Squidward and his mom still don't get along, being spiteful toward one another and holding up business, meanwhile Mr. Krabs and his mom are at odds and ends because it's clear that Mr. Krabs doesn't really care for his mother bieng there, just the image she can present. She even tries to give him some ideas (the half-ply thing or something) but Mr. Krabs isn't hearing any of it, focusing on himself. Spongebob and his mom notice this and try to help the other two. Spongebob convinces Mr. Krabs to listen to his mom's ideas, and after running some numbers on a calculator or something, he realizes he CAN save a bunch of money, and thus sides with his mom. Squidward has still yet to budge.
ACT 3: After a montage of trust exercies, nothing is really working, and all hope seems lost for their relationship, but Squidward's mom does something interesting, showing disdain for the customers. Squidward realizes he can techncially be mean to customers while not holding up business or having his job threatned, and thus, learns how to be a more subtle hater thanks to his mom. Spongebob and his mom celebrate whilst Squidward and his mom show the same disdain for the customers to them, but Spongebob is oblivious to this and considers it genuine kindness. Hey, maybe that can be the joke the episode ends on or something similar to that.
See, it's that simple. No Bubble Bass, no extra busy work, just a simple 3-Act story put into an 11-minute time slot. New Spongebob stuff feels a bit too busy and is more than keen to put Spongebob in an antagonistic/confrontational situation more than what is necessary for a season.
Now, granted, I have no idea if my script is any better or not, it could certainly use some polishing, but tries to minimize the episode into something more contained with just the 6 characters we NEED to work with in this episode. If there is something that could be done to make my script better or something, I'd really like to know!
“I’m an invertebrate, mother!” Was kind of a fire joke though, ngl
Not to mention one of the episodes spongebob says one of the ingredients is love
Is it the one where Pearl has a growth spurt?
I thought I hated SpongeBob as a kid when seasons 5-9 (idk when SpongeBob started getting bad) then I realized that I only liked the older seasons because they had that charm to them. I don’t think any child is sitting through new SpongeBob
I remember seeing a couple of the old episodes in Twitter that someone posted and it took me back to my childhood i haven’t seen the new stuff but I suppose it has hundreds of episodes by now and it makes sense why lost its charm many shows will
Tom Kenny's voice acting is fine. It's the writing that's flawed.
shoulda named him older man jenkins after all these years lmao
Oh my god... the moms are so manipulative and Gaslight like.... I have mother issues myself and seeing the moms act like assholes makes me really triggered
To quote Squidward, OH, HOW COULD IT GET ANY WORSE??
“squidward deserves a spanking for what he did in good neighbors”
this is who the show is appealing to now. squidward literally did nothing wrong in that episode. he just wanted to have a nice sunday by himself and spongebob and patrick ruined it for him
