Probably helped you to focus on process too and not outcome. Focus on outcome creates fear and either yips or a tentative stroke. Confidence is everything, however that is achieved; new wedge, new putter, new method ... whatever. Keeping it going is the challenge! 🤣

When I was a kid I was great at chipping and now have absolutely NO IDEA what I'm doing and have lost total confidence. In fact, my mind goes blank!! A mixture of fear and total embarrassment. Bunkers? Happy as a clam. Anywhere near the green? Double bogie! I'm going out to play this afternoon and will put the "stock chip" process into practice and stick with it - pivot around front leg/hip, grip light and swing sloooooow. Wish me luck!

I have Bobby jones on dvd from 1931 instructional video for all clubs, his most lofted club was a niblick basically a 9 iron, he could spin it on a dime or make it run out, in a bunker he could hit low and run or high and stop in the place it hit. They walked on the ball buried and he hit 9 to couple feet. Those days they chipped with several clubs. Some of this looks very similar to how bobby pitched in certain situations. In a match play the stymie rule was in and he chipped over another ball into the cup. Those days you couldn't lift clean and place a ball anywhere even on the green.

I’m the same way - the weirdest part is when my short game is good, I score the best. But there’s days when my driver and irons are on and my score will get ruined with bad play around the greens.
I shot a PR the other day, and I hit 4 fairways, 7 GIR, but I was getting up and down and no 3 putts. And it felt like a bad round before I added up my score

I am a 3 handicap that has been suffering with the chipping "yips" for about 3 years now. I suffered from the same short swing and pulling too much on the handle without letting the bounce work. It has gotten better lately due to some good instruction, but this is by far the best video I have ever seen on the subject!! I feel like I just got a $200 lesson for free. Thanks so much. Normally I don't like hour long instruction videos, but I may watch this one several more times. Perfect job!

I play off 5 and my short game always saves me, but I found this so unbelievably insightful to understand why when im feeling a certain thing that the ball does what it does. This makes me want to get out on the course and just spend a couple of hours at the side of a green practising different shots!

If you need help getting a more rotational swing and being less pully with the hands, I recommend either putting your feet together, or putting a towel under both arm pits. Since doing these drills, my swing has become more rotational, I’m not stalling at impact as much, and I’m able to put the club in the holster more easily.
Then I came across Dan and it all started making sense. Him and Padraig have helped my short game the most. I noticed the other day that my chipping is at its best when I use the bounce correctly; I’m able to hit it a bit fat and my ball ends up where I want it to. Dan echoed all of this and really clarified things for me. He’s the man.

This is one of the best instructional videos I've seen, in an area I've struggled with on and off for a few years. Very similar to Rick, got very twitchy on certain lies, mainly uphill lies to a green or if the green is above me. My short game used to be solid, then something occurred on the course that gave me a yippy sensation in certain spots. Went out to try a few bits today, mainly the longer, slower swing and trying to get to Release 1, as I can be quite drivey too. Then tried keeping my left arm tight against me (the holding the arm and thumb on chest drill) and getting to Release 2, on a tight pin... this was working well! Just finding time to practice in between work, but promising signs! Thanks to Rick and Dan!

Just coming back to this video after seeing Rick mention it in his latest video. This has been a game changer for my short game this year, overall game even. Probably the best UA-cam golf lesson, since this applies to everyone. Most golf lessons are contradictory or specific for a certain person or style, but this should be mandatory viewing for all golfers.

aside from his vast knowledge about the short game, what makes Dan a GREAT teacher is that he finds good things in his student as well as the obvious faults. He doesn't come in hammering on the obvious faults. Everyone has some good things in their technique and he mentions them.

Rick, thanks for not editing out the learning. As I attempted to apply this info, watching him coach you through was very helpful for me to check if I was doing some of the things he coached you on. This is one of the most beneficial golf videos I have ever watched. I was able to apply most of this pretty quickly and there was an instant improvement. The cool thing about this technique is the not so great shots are really quite good. Halfway through my practice session, I realized my new expectation was actually trying to make the shots and not just get them close. This was an amazing change in consistency for me. I filled the cup up the first practice session and cannot wait to take this to the course.

This might be the best UA-cam golf video of all time. Changed my short game forever. I was a driver of the ball to try and generate some spin with speed, and had no consistency. Now I’m hitting it high and soft and less worried about the ball spinning and making highlight shots.

For me, this is Rick Shields's best-ever video to date because of the raw honesty, vulnerability and integrity paired with an incredibly good short-game instructor. As soon as he said 'putt chip' I was sold in terms of the analysis of the root cause and then the new pendulum chipping technique.
