Yes, stage 1 is a very small start for this airport . They have left space for a second runway and to extend the terminal into a u shape to increase capacity when the demand is there. Like a lot of things always left to later, but at least this time round, they have left the space
I know it is still early days, but would appreciate seeing more of the front/main entry side of the terminal (bad word when describing airports actually). I am a little worried that the "tin shed" design concept I am seeing may not be fully realised.
This airport could be used for fog diversions from SYD or if planes cannot make it to SYD in time before curfew due to delays could also divert here too
It will be interesting to see how long this airport maintains its 24 hour operations. There’s a lot of housing projects underway not too far from this airport. I suspect there will be pressure from the get-go for a curfew.
@GrahamW722 you would think if the airport I'd already there you understand what you're in for. But with I suppose the old not in my backyard. You could have a good point
Not many gates. That terminal is both domestic and international. Looks like only 6 international flights will have aero bridges. I thought this was going to be big?
Hi Mate . Looking at the layout map online, you can see that there would be either side used to park planes and assume you walk on the tarmac to them 4 extra on international side and 3 on domestic
@@ExplorationofAustralia With a brand new airport we shouldn’t be walking to planes on the tarmac. The investment should be high enough to build the airport properly. I just hope it’s not a missed opportunity.
Uninspiring ? What are you uninspired about? Will this stop you flying out of there? Come on, it’s a terminal, let’s get the airport up and running, rather than worry about extremely subjective looks.
I suppose some people like design and some are practical. I can see the point of it being built for purpose, but yes, you're right . It won't stop me flying out there, and it will be exciting to see this open and serving its purpose
From what I can see on the future map, they look like they want to expand it into a big u shape and have planes running around the whole building. That when I believe they will add the second runway. At least they have thought ahead and saved space for expansion
I think this new Sydney airport should focus purely on International flights, not Domestic.. And the new Metro from the airport to other Sydney train stations should open by the time the airport opens.
NZer here - wow, that's a HUGE project!
Looking really good already!
Thankyou so much
Thanks for update. Coming together nicely.
Thankyou so much
Great video 👍 Keep sharing the updates
I am going to try to do 1 every 4 to 6 weeks to see the progress. Glad you are coming along for the journey
Thanks for this update mate. Hopefully there will be markers of where all the heritage items where located before destruction.
Wow could you tell me what was removed that was heritage.
@@ExplorationofAustralia I private Messaged you.
It's a big site, nice to see it from that perspective!
It's hard to scope the size until you see it from the air
nicely put together tony 👍
Thanks a lot, Colin. And hopefully, there has been an improvement based on some very good tips from you
That looks like a really small terminal .....I guess it is Australia 😮😊

Will certainly try to accommodate where possible

At least there will be an alternative

Cheap design structure , more like an outback airport imo
The most uninspiring building I have ever seen. New airport where you could do anything and we got a box with an elongated rectangle. Epic fail.
Definitely built to serve a purpose🥴

@@ExplorationofAustralia Besides, in ten years time they will knock it down and do the arty-farty spaceship inspired design. 😂
