The lack of a rail connection from Glenfield really is a traffic disaster waiting to happen. 2 million people from Goulburn to Liverpool are not going to travel via St Mary's. It means the majority of people will drive. They won't catch a bus. When 'express' buses get stuck in gridlock on the M12 and M7 and people are missing flights, a future government will then have to sort this mess out. And it will be much more expensive doing it later on.

Crossing runways are expensive to build and take up an enormous amount of land area, and you can only use one at a time anyway. They generally don't get built unless the airport is expecting a lot of smaller private planes (which can't handle crosswinds very well and don't need a particularly long runway to land on) or the location has highly variable weather conditions that justify it. They're starting at one runway that points northeast (into Sydney's prevailing winds), and will add another one in the same direction when it's justified by the amount of traffic.
The design is similar to Athens Int’l, which is 21 years old. The main differences are: Athens was built with 2 parallel runways from the beginning, Athens has a satellite terminal. Both airports can easily be expanded which is good. Feels like Sydney is finally joining the 21st century with regards to airport design. I think this new airport will be more popular than what the planners realize.
As Sydney's second airport, and with more space to play with, they could build a more modern airport. Sydney Airport doesn't have a lot of space to play with, unless they filled in more of Botany Bay. That might upset a few people though.
I do wonder as it's a 24hour airport, but the Metro and Sydney trains don't run 24 hours a day. We are hoping all those tired passengers will take buses or change trains or sit in peak hour traffic to get to the city.
I remember reading that it was modelled on Incheon Airport and having lived over there and made good use of that train, it’s a good one to compare with. The airport railroad there connects nicely to both terminals via an enclosed connected walkway. Western Sydney doesn’t get as cold as Seoul but at times cold enough!
If International tourists are given a special printed Opal Card to travel 1 day for Free, then public transport can be promoted. The cost can be included in the Airport tax pp easily. It will work like the tickets of all the major events at Olympic Park.
Great clip. I'm all jealous now. A few random comments: - You have probably heard that WSI will not have a control tower, but multiple cameras (including in infra red) that will display like a virtual control tower at a facility in Eastern Creek. - It's a little harder to do 'virtual' crash fire rescue, so there appears to be a large concrete pad for the first runway fire station on the western side of the runway, near its centre and beside a big rectangular pond. - The Elizabeth Drive bridge over the M12 and rail underpasses at the northern end of the airport is about to open. - The Elizabeth Drive rail underpass has tons of room for four tracks - That combined with spare space along the eastern side of the W S Airport Metro line through the airport are probably to provide a corridor for a later second line (to/from Westmead?). - Given the passenger flow, cross platform transfers would not be needed within the airport. - As I won't be around by then, I can safely speculate the Airport Line will link to Glenfield, and the later line will run to Narellan and Macarthur (with cross platform exchange before lines split around Bringelly - and possibly with the Airport line splitting to do both destinations initially). - I wonder how transfers between flights at different terminals will be done, once they are constructed - perhaps transfer buses airside (like at some major Australian airports), or a 'people mover' connecting terminals inside their secure areas (like at some major US airports)? - I'm 'sowing seeds' wherever possible that WSI is NOT Sydney's second (or third) airport at all, but is Western Sydney's own international airport. Seperate identity, different market mix, more flexible, cheaper operation and run by more pragmatic locals - It's all the more reason why people in the (more populous and productive) West will rarely want/need to go into dear old Harbour Sydney, except as an occasional tourist - Even Tay Tay preferred going West for her venues and zoo visits. Just saying.
In relation to the transfers, I would say it would operate not dissimilar to Pudong & Hongqiao Airports in Shanghai (both on opposite sides of the city).I believe they have a mix of airlines, but set routes only go to 1 specific airport, and the budget airlines go to Hongqiao.Hongqiao takes less international if I recall my time there, Pudong still doing the heavy lifting for international flights. I reckon Wellcamp Airport here in Brisbane will be similar again, both Badgery's Creek & Wellcamp being a good 2 hours from current airports.
Ok, but can we get more than two small bus shelters at St Marys station? There used to be more cover at the old bus stand, before they relocated it to make way for The Tunnel™️ Billions of dollars spent and expected to be generated on and by this project, but (HA! Just got to "Western Sydney is very important." That's rich.) we can't get adequate cover at a vital public transport waiting area, utilised by hundreds of people daily 🙄
Yep, Badgery's Creek is a total rort - if the state government really cared about Western Sydney they'd invest in urbanising the parts of it that currently exist. Better public transport, higher density housing, etc - not another huge airport that won't benefit most living in Western Syd. Normally this is where I'd complain that the public haven't done enough but the outcry against the airport was pretty significant, yet nothing was done to address it.
Oh god yes, all those in the comments section complaining about no curfew or how it will not work, please realese this is the normal for many large cities. Dont ever change your mind on the no curfew.. Finally in Melbourne we are looking forward to not having to accommodate inbound International flights into Sydney that are behind schedule and end up landing and sitting on the taxi ways (occasionally they will depart if the company has a free spot not already taken up) This happens a lot more then people would imagine. A 2nd international airport for NSW has had a lot of problems in the past. Hexham Swamp west of Newcastle was floated in the 60s, Williamtown was floated as Newcastle airport is expanding into international flights but is shared with the RAAF. Richmond was floated at another point. Great to see Sydney gets it all and NSW loses again. Well done .
Newy airport is getting more flights and attention. I am not from Sydney but i can respect that western sydney is the 2nd biggest economy in NSW (after Sydney) and for NSW, Sydney needs a 2nd airport that has no curfew like every other major city in the world.
Western Sydney is the fastest growing region in NSW. About 3m people will live here by 2036 and the current Sydney airport is already at full capacity. The fact there's a curfew doesn't help Sydney either.
I think Newcastle at Williamstown should be expanded (probably Re-built). Of course have an airbase but make it possible to handle international flights and a transport link between Newcastle and the airport. I think it’ll prove popular as more people move up the coast and Hunter regions. It’ll also be good as a safety measure if SYD and Sydney’s western airport has issues.
@@cathalwarrior1650incorrect. Takes international flights and has a modern terminal and a runway length in excess of 3.2km which is longer than a few other so-called international airports in Australia. A second airport close to a freight rail line between Sydney-Goulburn-Canberra would have made better sense than lumping Western Sydney with another dysfunctional structure and traffic chaos.
It's okay Sharath, we know you skipped the pushup bit because you were doing one handed clap pushups like Rocky and you didn't want to make everyone else self conscious
I don't like same terminal for domestic and international flights. Usually it means more restrictions on what you can carry on domestic flights, and increased security checks.
International airport with 1 runway? In this day and age, they should have planned 2 runways and expansion option up to 4. One runway would be limiting in the near future.
It should have a curfew the same as Sydney airport does. People in western sydney need to sleep too. People are already living around the new airport and have been long before the airport was thought of.

9:12 "Western Sydney locals don't have to travel an hour and a half..." No.. it is WAY LONGER! From the Sydney CBD each day it takes me 2.5 hours to travel out to the WSA site. But recently I was staying at my mother's place in Liverpool, and it took me more than 3.5 hours to get to work by public transit each day (almost 8 HOURS commute every single day of the week). For my colleagues who drive - just 25 minutes. But we shouldn't be encouraging cars especially when they are forecasting 10 million passengers a year!
Most employees working at Sydney Kingsford smith Airport for airline provide parking by their companies because of shift work they need to start early , public transport cant do it. Do you know what you are talking about ?
I reject a job that force me to to travel to western sydney 1 hour, I want the company to provide a car but they want to save money . I give them a finger and the manager agree . You spend 7 hour travel to work ? must be quite desperate with big mortgage over your head.
Almost 8 HOURS commute every single day of the week? That's a commute. The transport infrastructure is still under construction at WSA. I can' say how well it will work, but hopefully better than 2.5 hrs from the CBD - a Sydney Trains meltdown or pileup on a Motorway not withstanding.
i mean, what do you expect from a construction site in the middle of greenfield... good public transport? the metros being built + BRT, most people will take PT by 2026..
Why on earth a heavy rail line was not costructed with a direct connection at St. Mary's one will never know, although we really do, just taking the cheap.option. What a pain, change at St. Mary's for an ST service instead of a seamless trip to town.
An amazing piece of Civil construction. Thanks for the lighthearted informative video. But its operation going to effect the whole of the Sydney basin. Aircraft Noise, traffic chaos and pollution. The increase costs from ROI of running this new airport. The new WSI and SYD aircraft movements basically will effect everyone from opening. Plus the many Ground travel and resupply issues assigned to TfNSW well into 2030's.
Sorry guys but you forgot to mention no DIRECT connection via metro to Kingsford Smith. Domestic or foreign visitors needing transfer from Western Sydney to Kingsford Smith will need a metro to St Mays, then change, then train to Central station with a change to get to Kingsford Smith. Absolutely ridiculous when 6klm from Western Sydney Airport, a rail line to Leppington was built with direct access to Kingsford Smith and Central WITHOUT THE NEED TO CHANGE TRAINS. Road connection to Kingsford Smith will be a disaster along the M5 that is a parking lot for most of the day. And forget catching a train from Camden or Campbelltown unless you have 3hours to waste of your life. Planning has been -4/10, A second runway and terminal expansion will NEVER happen as in 40 years time it will be 30 - 35Billion to complete as it is next to an active runway. I follow both of you guys channels, and generally love the content, but, and that's a BIG but, this video, i'm sure has been vetted by WSIA for content, and doesn't exploit the weaknesses that will hinder this airport from running smoothly. When heavy machines that were onsite could have done a cut and cover station for 1/3rd the cost and 30m from the terminal. come on now.

And don't forget, Sydney Airport will still be operating, so it's not like this airport is expected to handle all the air traffic for Sydney.
There used to be more cover at the old bus stand, before they relocated it to make way for The Tunnel™️
Billions of dollars spent and expected to be generated on and by this project, but (HA!
@@TheSsaltyRort is the word for it. Headed by Turnbull 's wife😂
Oh god yes, all those in the comments section complaining about no curfew or how it will not work, please realese this is the normal for many large cities. Dont ever change your mind on the no curfew..
Finally in Melbourne we are looking forward to not having to accommodate inbound International flights into Sydney that are behind schedule and end up landing and sitting on the taxi ways (occasionally they will depart if the company has a free spot not already taken up)
This happens a lot more then people would imagine. It's time to grow up Sydney into a big man without a bedtime!! 🎉❤😂
I just subscribed
LOL. Great intro!
I like to know where the train 🚆 to narrellan to the new Airport is going to come. Or has this been STOPPED full stop?I know a train is coming the other way.
Yeah how wonderful I get to put up with noise 24 7 so looking forward to that. I will swap houses with these people,
Move to FNQ like I did. You'll love it!
@@baldersackthethird768 Then a cyclone will blow me away haaa or I drown or eat a poison cane toad or get sting by a jellyfish or eaten by a crocodile.
I don't think it will be the best till it proves itself when operational. But a change is as good as a holiday where new airports are concerned. A long overdue new airport.
Come to Indonesia, we have more in to review
nice!
Sorry, can’t help but notice the hard hats that Sharath and Paul are wearing are the exact hats my workplace works on. Hard Hat Vented 9 Ratchet (HHV9R) to be exact. I work in the printing department that prints logos onto those hats.
Cool! They were part of the WSI PPE kit for guests.
I live in Leonay, so I can hardly wait to drive less than 30 minutes and get on a plane✈
I live in leonay too ,can't wait for 24hr aircraft noise...
Yeah enjoy that non stop noise. No-one wants to talk about that.
Hexham Swamp is so solid that nothing floats on it.
Right now, it's estimated to have the same amount of traffic as Canberra airport.
A regional airport…..not international…..
Hi! Just butting in here to say that domestic and international operations will be kept seperate
@@WesternSydneyInternationalThanks for clarifying
Great tour from the dazzling duo of infrastructure! That was fun, thanks.
Haha I love that nickname. You’re most welcome!
Is there a train station adjacent to the airport?
They are building a metro which will open at the same time as the airport
I wonder if it would be feasible for someone to offer helicopter transfers between the airports?
Airspace already too busy and too costly
International airport with 1 runway? In this day and age, they should have planned 2 runways and expansion option up to 4.
One runway would be limiting in the near future.
you need to research more
Love it, all we need now is a 300kmh rail to centre of Sydney
God save the Blue Mountains, Hawkesbury and St Clair from the flight paths.
Don’t worry. Blue Mtns in particular won’t be effected.
They are a long way, there won't be much noise
Keep dreaming.
Too late. Blue mountains is in line also. Don't kid yourself.
Get out before it's too late.
@@chrispekel5709haha okay let me know in 3 years when you're suffering from sleep deprivation.
I'm just happy they didn't go with the option to build it near my place.
It should have a curfew the same as Sydney airport does. People in western sydney need to sleep too. People are already living around the new airport and have been long before the airport was thought of.
the whole point of building this airport is to have no curfew
They don't care about the people of Western Sydney. Isn't that obvious. Get out now while your house is still worth something.
Oh god no. Finally in Melbourne we are looking forward to not having to accommodate inbound International flights into Sydney that are behind schedule and end up landing and sitting on the taxi ways (occasionally they will depart if the company has a free spot not already taken up)

11:12 😂 beautiful view of the western sydney sun 🌞 burning 🔥 excessive heat through the glass 🪟 windows turning the airport into a microwave let's not also forget the the radio/radiation wave signals 📻 from the many various frequencies mhz/ghz for communications and remotes sending signals inside and outside of the airport 😂
Beautiful view of the smog covered mountains. The ignorance is off the hook😂
Considering the WEF want to limit how much we fly by 2030 will the aviation industry survive?

Private jet and caviar eh. Lol. Is great you both got special access. Cheers
9:12 "Western Sydney locals don't have to travel an hour and a half..."
No.. it is WAY LONGER!
Mary's for an ST service instead of a seamless trip to town.
feel for the folk who have built their dream home near by and are now soaked in jet noise 24 hours a day till they move or die.
"put your phone on airplane mode" video stops
Shout out to the social media team at western Sydney airport for inviting the transport gurus !
Yes absolutely!
Air pollution? No one in Western Sydney likes to talk about the filth they breathe in. Beautiful up here in FNQ though.
World-class cities need 24-hour airports.
@@baldersackthethird768 Boring as hell though after 2 weeks
@@eds4743 There is a case for them. The good ones are away from City Basins like ours. with fast transport connections
FFS, 150m to walk from a train to the terminal with baggage before a flight. When heavy machines that were onsite could have done a cut and cover station for 1/3rd the cost and 30m from the terminal. come on now.
It’s designed to serve Western Sydney. Transferring between airports located over an hours drive away from each other would be odd.
@@MaxS-hn8weIt is a complete myth that people travelling to/from Western Sydney will use WSA and East/CBD passengers will use KSA. People will choose flights based on timing, convenience, preferred airline and above all price - and then go to the airport.
@@jack2453 Ain't worked out too well for Avalon.
sounds like a lot of compromises to cut cost and will probably end up costing more in the long run.
Jeopardising World Heritage status of our Blue Mtns, pure contempt for the sleep quality and well being of Western Sydney and the Blue Mtns residents. But, we can get our produce to SE Asia in time for breakfast.
Exactly. Move up to FNQ. Beautiful air and water. Western Sydney is already covered in filthy air. Why do people keep ignoring facts??
Isn't it clear that the suits hate people in western Sydney?
So people from Melbourne have shit sleep quality?
It’s going to be a nightmare up here in the Blue Mountains. Low flying planes 24/7
I sent an expression of interest to WSA. still awaiting something.
aww man airplane mode guess i cant watch the video
No need to play dumb jokers. You both have respected sites based on content ie perspective and context that informs and educates your viewers.
Subbing because i want a seat on the private jet XD
best? kinda in the middle of nowhere though....lol. iots SOOO small. Doesn't look like it can accomodate many flights. Kinda looks like Adelaide but Adelaide is WAY bigger. what airlines? i wouldn't want to travel that far. Also M12? how much they gonna slug you for that? >
This is stage 1. The plan is to build a second runway and terminal. The land is already protected for that purpose. The Metro station will be conveniently located between the two terminals. Current projections are for 21 air traffic movements per hour during peak times. And don't forget, Sydney Airport will still be operating, so it's not like this airport is expected to handle all the air traffic for Sydney. The Western Sydney Airport site is about twice the size of the Sydney Airport site btw. At the moment, Qantas and Jetstar have said they will use the new airport. And Transport for NSW have said the M12 won't have a toll. All the documents on the new airport are available online. You could Google them.
Yeah tolls never appear when they say they don't. See you in the comments in 3 years.
@@baldersackthethird768 And? It's always a political decision. The M12 is being co-funded by the Feds and NSW. So it isn't a PPP. That's something in favour of it remaining toll free.
