Dan Hampton Ultimate NFL Career Highlights

- Hall of Famer Dan Hampton was the heart and soul of the Chicago Bears defense of the 1980s. He didn't put up gaudy numbers like Richard Dent due to the nature of his position, nor was he as vocal of a leader as Singletary, but his consistent play and toughness set the physical tone that made the Bears infamous. He was capable of playing anywhere on the line and was always willing to be used where needed, whether that be on the edge as a potent power rusher, or head up on the center stuffing the run.

Easily one of the most underrated players ever. He was the key to that defense. Incredible quickness off the block and consistency great on the run and attacking the QB. He was masterclass and had no weaknesses. Just a tremendous, tremendous, player.
Hampton is as tough as nails!
Overall a great great defense the bears had .
Offense was great too - led by Walter Payton. 🐐!!!!
Hardly underrated as the 4th pick of the 79 draft
And a Hall of Famer
2nd best BEARS defender of all time. Bellow Dick Butkus. Easily most underrated player in NFL history.
If Vikings DT Keith Millard could have stayed healthy he was on the same trajectory as Hampton. Check his limited tape...had the same explosive step. Hampton just unreal.
Hes so good its crazy
Absolutely great but not the second best. I’d take Urlacher or Singletary or Dent. There may have been a few I didn’t see in the 50’s and 60’s too.
@@DWilliam1 Cool...nasty D very nasty
They talk about the different era. Hampton could still play in the same style today. He never sought to punish; only to bring the man down. Notice that he doesn’t drive his weight into the man. When it’s sure he’s down, he breaks his own fall or rolls off.
That’s because in real life he’s a teddy bear. And an amazing father and husband.
Dan Hampton was a true Monster of the Midway, he was indomitable. “Danimal” played with multiple scopes on each knee to the point he had no cartilage left and still dominated his position both as defensive tackle and end. One of the greatest Chicago Bears ever along with Steve “Mongo” McMichael and Mike “Samurai” Singletary... 🤔🤨😋👍
DANIMAL! Absolute legend.
Best DT ever. Ask Buddy Ryan
Dan Terry. He used to play DE sometimes.
Dan is very good people too. I was around when the legends (Hampton, Payton and Perry) were having their surgeries (scopes). It was an honor to have a conversation with him.....and his wife at the time, Terry.
I was and will always be a forever fan of the legend. Dan Hampton. You were the best, no doubt about it.
The man so dominant inside or out and he was great against the run or pass .
A lot of attention is paid to the 46 defense. The key to making that defense work, and in 1985 it was the best defense of all time, was pressure from the defensive line. That pressure came from hall-of-famers Dan Hampton and Richard Dent. Mcmichael and Perry weren't too shabby either. For that matter, the entire defense could make the pro bowl
McMichael not too shabby? Check stats on McMichaels sacks all time for defensive tackles the year he retired. Borderline HOFer bro.
That 46 Defense worked because of Dan Hampton and Steve McMichael. Mike Singletary and Richard Dent reaped huge benefits from the sacrifices of those two. I don't know why McMichael is not in the HOF. His Stats prove that He belongs in there with the other three.
@@romanobears3470 McMichael was certainly HOF caliber. Dika called him the toughest player on the team. To be fair, some of McMichael's success came because Hampton was being double teamed by the offensive line.
@@carlweaver3243 He is now. Well deserved!
about time someone made a good Danimal highlights video!
Dan Hampton made Pro Bowl’s at both defensive end & defensive tackle in his career
I remember when he was drafted out of Arkansas in '79. We already had Walter. I knew something special was happening...
He would make sacks or tackles behind the line of scrimmage and just get up, maybe a high five that’s it. No over the top celebration like today. Just did his job.
There are almost no celebrations today. I’m almost 60 and the era of celebrations was the 80’s and 90’s ushered in with players like Gastineau and Billy Johnson. Hampton was workmanlike and an absolute stud on one of the greatest defenses of all time.
Danimal
Everyone is quick to forget all the blocked field goal attempts.
One of the best, even on all these bad Bears teams
DAN HAMPTON YOUR WERE MY FAV 1985 BEARS. YOU WERE THE BEST DT EVER.DD HONEY BEAR LOVES YOU
Pure poetry.
My Brother in Law retired from John Deere in the Quad Cities. They were gonna have a Meet and Greet with Dan Hampton. My Brother in Law walked in and looked at his Friend and asked have you seen him yet? His friends eyes got big.He said he turned around And looked Dan In the lower Chest.I would have loved to be there. My Little Brother Would have killed somebody to be there.lol There's no Bigger Dan Hampton Fan than my Little Brother
Dan Hampton was from Arkansas
I'm glad he went pro
He is a Bear
He was part of a legand
Just one little thing
You always tackle a running back in the ankle or legs
It will bring down big runners every time
You need to make the offense fear you...Jack Tatum style.
He went to my high school and wanted to see the hype
Met dan at the legends tour 2009 great player had great talks with him.he signed some bears photbooks for me.
Danimal is the most underrated goat DL of all time.
Richard Dent and Dan Hampton worked together very well.
MONSTER OF THE MIDWAY. DANIMAL
Fun fact, his kid Dan Jr went to my middle school and high school and he was a couple years below me. His dad coached me for a basketball camp, buddy is huuugee with hands the size of mits and the fingers are all bent up from years in the league
Could have put Hampton anywhere on the line and he would dominate. Best player on that defense and they had some damn good ones for sure.
Anybody trying to block Dan Hampton is in for a very long day...and a painful recovery
You should make one for Steve Mongo McMichael
Da Danimal!
He frequents Chicago auto show as a guest now for the past couple of years
Danimal (period)
I love Monsters of the Midway
Donald Trump as a Bear
Real life Lil Abner
One Bad MOFO!
He was good but not HoF status. Not sure how he got in.
These are really boring to watch. You get no sense of the action or athletic ability, strength etc when it is in super-slomo. No excitement of game situation with no live sound or announcers... It it were just one or two peppered in that might work for dramatic effect, but not when it's the entire video.
So, great story. About 20 years ago, my brother went to a meet and greet with Hampton. He had always been my brothers favorite player. Anyways, he got in line to get an autograph picture from #99. When it was finally his turn, he referred to Hampton as "Danster". Hampton looked at him like he was a clueless moron. My brother started laughing and mentioned how during a game John Madden was comparing Hampton with the Cowboys Randy White. He stated that Whites nickname was "Manster". Part man, part monster. He goes on to refer to Hampton as "Danster". Part Dan, part monster. Anyways, my brother then called him "Danimal", which was his correct nickname. Hampton laughed about the whole thing. He then signed his autograph with "Danster"!! I am probably the only person with an authentic Dan Hampton autographed picture in which he intentionally wrote the wrong nickname on it. It is still hanging up in my bar to this day. Just shows what a great guy Hampton is, and what a great sense of humor he has. Long live the 85 Bears. The greatest team of all time.
Man...what a great story! You know your football #54 Cowboys "Randy Manster". My memories of the the 46 defense 1985...just unstoppable...so many brilliant players...going down hill they did not stop...relentless...shattering
Best team that ever was. So many characters on that roster. @@greasyflight6609
