Yep. And by watching The Hunchback of Notre Dame and The Swan Princess, I can tell that Frollo and Lord Rogers are kinda like an animated Hans Conried in a way (kinda).
@@MrGabeanator even if Conried was an American whereas Rogers was from a fictional island country that sorta resembles Medieval Britain (yet the original Russian ballet was set in Germany) and Frollo was from France (same setting as Sleeping Beauty, in this case Medieval France)
As well as Captain Hook he was a great Grinch. He was supposed to have reprised the role for The Grinch Grinches The Cat in the Hat but died before recording began. The reason he got the role in Grinch Night was because The 5000 Fingers of Dr. T did really badly and Dr. Seuss himself wanted to make it up to Hans by offering him the Grinch. What a corking performance!
At least The 5000 Fingers of Dr fared better in its later years. Conried was supposed to voice King Stefan in Sleeping Beauty; but while modeling the character and did some additional voice work, the truth regarding Lord Duke’s voice has been completely destroyed when Taylor Holmes was chosen as Stefan for the final version instead
13:06 Although he did manage record some additional voice lines and that the herald’s voice and accent is sorta like Conried’s, there are some numerous irregularities, not to mention Conried’s own replacement by Taylor Holmes as King Stefan, gave rise some unanswered questions like how had really voiced the unnamed herald, so we may never know the truth as to who voiced the herald because of Hans’ own replacement. He was also the physical inspiration for Frollo in Hunchback of Notre Dame and possibly for Queen Uberta’s head butler named Lord Rogers in Swan Princess, due to their facial appearance and mannerisms being a little bit similar. Glad you were able to do a biography of Hans Conried!
I've been hoping you'd get to him; for those wanting to know more, there is a book out about his life which is simply titled 'Hans Conried - a Biography.'
It's worth mentioning that a few of those propaganda films he worked on during the war were written by Dr. Seuss who became his friend - that was why Seuss was always recommending him for films and TV specials he did, from Dr. T to the Grinch, and even Horton the Elephant in Chuck Jones' Horton Hears a Who, and I must say he's a far superior Horton to Jim Carrey, innocent but not dimwitted, and a nice change from his usual villains and stuffy professor types.
Yep. He would have been a Disney Legend because he worked on a lot of Disney projects as Peter Pan was NOT the only Disney role he did as his other works for Disney included Thomas Jefferson in Ben and Me, Dr Thimblerig in Davy Crockett: King of the Wild Frontier, Prosecutor in The Story of Anyburg USA, the live action model of King Stefan and one of the additional voices in Sleeping Beauty, Professor Whatley in The Story of Anyburg USA, and Dr Heffel in The Cat from Outer Space.
The Late Hans Georg Conried Jr. (April 15, 1917 - January 5, 1982) did a Legendary Performance Bringing Disney’s Version of Captain James Hook to Life and I can definitely tell that Hans Conried had a Blast Voicing Captain Hook in The 1953 Peter Pan Film.
Not only he played both Captain Hook and Mr Darling in Peter Pan, but he also did the same thing for Aurora’s father in Sleeping Beauty but the vocal part was taken by Taylor Holmes in the final version
Conried appeared on an episode of the show "Alice.' He was the new owner/cook of the diner after Mel left. He also was the voice of the Ghost Of Christmas Past on the 1941 version of "A Christmas Carol" with Ronald Colman as Scrooge
My favorite character, he voiced was snidely whiplash from Jay Ward Dudley do right cartoons on the rocky and Bullwinkle show he was a very dynamic voice actor, one of my voice acting heroes
The 5000 fingers of Dr. T is a bizarre, and I mean BIZARRE movie even by Dr. Seuss...and yet it was also one of those movies that was the victim of Studio medleying so much so Dr. Seuss swore never to do another movie again and it was only his friendship with Chuck Jones that we got How the Grinch Stole Christmas on TV. Any way, if you ever find a copy, Hans Conried steals the show, I mean, there's a dance fight he has with the other guy and his physicality and everything and you go, wow, this guy was only a radio star? He really could have played an awesome Captain Hook in live action. I'm glad more and more people are coming to appreciate and learn about the old Character actors who helped make so many memorable characters since I think a lot of people don't appreciate how much Disney relied on radio voices/character actors to cast many of his movies from Snow White to at least The Sword in the Stone.

It's fascinating to hear the man outside of his pirate role!
The name is Captain Hook.
I had the great honor to have worked with Hans in the late 70's. He was a great gentleman !
He made Peter Pan even more enjoyable to watch just by being there, and his energy in his voice is just unbelievable
