I’ve never used live scope but from the videos I’ve seen of it u don’t need. U have to be 1 of the best anglers on YT and seem like u like the hunt. I feel love scope takes the hunt out of fishing
Livescope is the best. Thats just the reality. Its the new standard of sonar. Everyone will eventually convert. I got it and it completely altered how I fish and how I think about fish. Its the greatest piece of equipment I have ever had. You are sight fishing regardless of depth and water clarity, the amount of information I have gathered from that this season is crazy.
Another good session on the water. Fishing for Pompano with an artificial lure is like raising Trout on a dry fly. One major difference: the Pompano tastes better.
14:44 Sums it up perfectly for me. The pursuit and the anticipation of "is this spot gonna be on today or should I go to this other spot" is half the fun of fishing to me. I love the whats gonna be here, if there even is anything feeling. The ONLY time my fish finding technology gets used is if i know im doing a family fish fry type thing and thats why i'm out that day. If im just fishing for sport, my finders never even get used on probably 75% of the time. But to each his own, tight lines.
I share the same sentiment with Live Scope. It's amazing technology, but there is so much add'l satisfaction when you read the water and guess where the fish are. Once that guessing game is gone, I don't think I would get that much enjoyment out of it.
For me the biggest benefit of live scope is the live footage, it's not a scrolling history of what you have already gone over. So being able to watch the fish interact with your bait, lure etc. you can adjust and try different presentations, speeds, cadence, to hopefully find what works. I'm also able to watch what I'm trolling by facing livescope rearward. It's amazing to watch a fish on livescope come up and follow or hit your lure. Like all the technology before it, it's the latest greatest thing, you still need the proper skills and gear to catch the fish.
Livescope is the cellphone addiction of the fishing world. Yeah I've seen some people catch some fish bc of it, I've also seen those people stare right at the screen for 45mins without making a cast, zoned out like your nephew on his cellphone.
So I'm an inshore sight and pattern fisherman here in FL. My buddy has a bass boat but is absolutely nuts for Crappie fishing and he has a nice Garmin Livescope on the bow. I've had the pleasure of fishing with him twice. If I were to get into that fishing I'd not go any other way. It's a huge advantage and it's a harder fish to pattern. I just upgraded my Maverick skiff from two Lowrance TI-2 to two HDS Live units. I use a 9" HDS Live at my feet and have low tide satellite imagery on the bow, but i don't use a transducer on the bow. I have to say I see it similar to you. I am afraid it would really change the way I fish. I like to plan for patterns and hunt down a successful pattern for the day .
I really enjoy your fishing videos. As far as live scope, it’s technologically and you can use it or not. Like in hunting the things that can help you fish better you can use. The idea is to catch fish and have a big time. Would I use it? Probably not, I don’t earn a living fishing but if it made it easier to catch and release that means I have totally enjoyed my time on the water with my wife. So Elias and everyone else if you choose to use, have fun. If you don’t so be it. Always time on the water is time we’ll spent.
I'm enjoying the new camera angles. As for livescope - personally I choose not to fish with it. Maybe it's being stubbornly old-fashioned but I kind of feel like it's more fun to use my senses and read the signs. Enough screens in my work life.
I got to enjoy fishing in West Palm a couple years. Pompano are hard to beat. Sheepshead are good too. I know livescope really helps me target crappie.
Great video, Elias. I think I’m with you on the live scan. I fish in Atlantic and Cape May Counties in NJ. Carolina Skiff in Avalon and bought an old Hobie Revo this year to broaden my fishing horizons. If I were to ever use live scope, I’d probably use it on my boat as opposed to the yak. E, let me know if you hear of someone selling a 180 Mirage drive. My Revo only has forward and I definitely need reverse. Thanks.
Live Scope: That's a tough choice because with it you get more clarity when identifying fish in cover/structure and where your bait is in relation to the fish. It might take away from the experience
pretty work. I saw you out there at the bridge that day. I came over and introduced myself. was good meeting you even if it was just for a minute. I had a few questions about some of your lures but you were on the move. maybe ill see you out there again. as far as livescope, I dont think there is a single right answer. livescope doesnt make you a better fisherman but it does give you different information that you wouldnt have without it and you can use that information to become a better fisherman. I really enjoy using it and it helps me in a lot of ways. having said that, I do find that sometimes I get stuck on it like a video game and I dont like that. livescope can be an incredible tool that makes you more efficient but it can also be a hindrance.
@@EliasVFishing I also had some general kayak questions for you. maybe next time. next time that cobia is going home with me. hope to see you out there again sometime.
Having just started fishing from a kayak (NC - Nags Head area) I bought a minimal set up. Paddle (no pedal), no other tech. So far, I've just been exploring and looking for spots I think should hold fish. Some have been pretty good, others have not. I am enjoying the process but knowing me I will also get impatient if I strike out on a lot of trips LOL
Honestly I think live scope can be fun because it can help you get on more fish, but you have clearly been working on your ability to find fish for years because you are damn good at it. If you are worried it will change your fishing experience, it isn't worth it.
I'm not a great livescope fan as a kayaker. I got into kayak fishing because I wanted a fishing experience that was 1) more affordable, 2) simplified and back to basics, and 3) more in touch with the water and natural world. Livescope just takes me away from all of those goals. With tournament fishing getting more and more popular among kayak bass anglers, I see the influence of those competitions having the same effect on kayak fishing that they've had on the rest of bass fishing. People carrying more and more expensive junk that they don't really need to just to get a marginal edge over the competition. I'm a fish biologist, and I've talked to researchers that have studied the effects of livescope, and they're not really finding they catch all that many more fish. Mostly they spend more time staring at their electronics, and less time actually fishing compared to anglers that don't have livescope. Me, I'd rather just get on with my fishing, and use my senses to take in the beauty of nature around me rather than spending my day on the water staring at yet another screen.
Hats off to Elias on a great channel. What an incredible fishery around the bridge and tunnels on the Chesapeake Bay. Livescope has been a hot topic for a while now and I’ve seen first hand the influence (along with spotlock) has on anglers fishing the tournament trails and now kayak anglers. Some anglers use livescope all the time and are very efficient when using it but lost in a situation where other methods have the advantage without it. Nolan is known as an instinctive angler studying fish behavior that started before he entered preschool and includes a couple years at WVU towards a Fishery Science degree before switching majors. His college tournament background put him at the top of the field in the nation while competing in the boat world without using working electronics. The used up units on the boat he used looked the part but were there for the simple part of reading depth, temp and mapping. He didn’t use Livescope until last year when he bought his brothers kayak with livescope already installed. It’s a great tool to use for studying fish reactions and behavior when approached by an angler whether it be by boat or kayak. I can understand and do enjoy the purest approach to fishing when fishing from a kayak going bare bones because it’s nice to get out there keeping it simple taking the time to take in all the beauty of the day. At the same time I also enjoy using every tool available to improve my day on the water. Sometimes the day may call for a quality pair of polarized lenses in skinny water to have the best experience for the situation at hand. Many choose to spend $100’s on top shelf glasses while some of us stay in the single digit price range when making that purchase. It’s all about the desire to have the best experience out there using whatever tools we choose to use.
@netmangaffer I see how Livescope can be a powerful tool, and to each their own. Personally, I just didn't get into fishing to spend my day staring at pixels moving on another screen.
I see technology that locates the fish for you as cheaty kind of. I can understand depth mapping technology, but fish finders not so much. Great catching Elias!
My first interaction with Mr.Toad was getting it latched onto my finger because I got distracted by someone else hooking up while I was getting the hook out. Lesson learned
Haven’t heard much about that forward facing sonar. I’d imagine if you’re mainly an offshore guy with boat it’s cool, If you’re a river/near shore Kayak guy it might be a little much.
I think livescope is a great tool if you're just trying to get on fish and catch fish. If you're out there for the enjoyment of the sport, then it will detract from that. Also, it is very expensive. I'm definitely in the dont want/ wont get it camp. I barely even use the electronics i do have. I like to maybe use it for depth or to see what the bottom looks like but i rarely use it to scan for fish
Personally I would love a livescope but it is hard to justify buying one. Your situation is perfect justification. What is the worst that can happen? If you don’t like it you probably could resell it pretty easily.
When I saw that moustache...images of Hulk Hogan, Danny Trejo, and Ron Burgundy started appearing before me. At that point I knew....this man is going to absolutely F these fish up.
I can tell you live scope for lakers is kick ass you want some serious video game fishing that is it. As for saltwater I've not tried it but I'm sure for weakfish, stripers, etc it would be amazing. probably would help a lot with locating albies and bonito when they aren't boiling bait.
Live scope I'm sure is a great tool in some cases. I have seen people use it before, and its neat to see it in action, but I'm personally skeptical about some of the technology. I mean, just because you see fish, doesn't mean you're gonna get em to bite. At least thats my way of thinking. I also have a hard time understanding some of that "new fangled stuff". LOL. Anyway, always great to see your videos and cant wait to see the next.
livescope for a content creator means less skunk trips .. so it would prove a benefit to you.. calibear uses livescope on his old towne.. from north va to florida .. especialy in new waters .. its gonna give you an edge to finding the fish for content.
I had livescope on my kayak at one point Hobie PA, I would have to say... It's a no. It really does take the enjoyment out of the "hunt". Just riding around rather than figuring things out. Something primitive and enjoyable about figuring out where and what the fish are biting on
I'll pass on starring at a screen the whole time I'm on the water. Heck, I don't even like fishing bass on beds because I don't like seeing the strike. I am all about the excitement of "what did i just hook into?" I also like the challenge of finding the fish.
should be snakehead in the bay too there really good eating dont know if you saw any will you where the far south but there all over up in the Maryland part. which in MD snakehead are kill on sight or keep with no limits since there invasive, but they are really tasty maybe even better then flounder
I don’t think it will effect your fish catching. You seem to be one of the best at vertical jigging or structure fishing. I got a buddy and he got side scan and we Fish for Speckled Trout and Flounder and Drum and he said he can see the fish on the bank but that don’t mean they will always bite. Hope this helps
Good day of fishing the bridge a lot of locals don’t even do this good! Live scope is going to ruin that fishery on that bridge and many other places. Just my opinion. And for the people who will say I can’t afford it I can. Just think it’s going to ruin the fishery on that bridge and local waters of the bridge.
yea man I purchased lowrances active target first of the year. (same as live scope) as you know having it on a kayak means more stuff you gotta load and unload. For quick trips and shallower water id rather leave it at the house. me personally I rather use it for deeper water. like looking for sheepshead on deeper structure. I think is cool as crap seeing what's on a piling. but being on a kayak and as much as they move around your working over time trying to point the transducer where you want it to. for you I think it would be a lot easier on the autopilot. kinda one of the reasons id wanna buy the autopilot. you can use the spot lock so your not constantly steering the kayak and the active target transducer.
@@EliasVFishing yea I gotta killer deal my local Dicks was closing down. I got the new Lowrance fs fish finder and the active target for 50% off. I had to jump on that deal.
@@johng9110 I’ve built my own lithium ion 30 amp hour battery from 18650 cells. Soo far I’ve not had a problem running the fish finder and the active target off of it. And I’ve used it maybe 6 hours at the longest give or take.
I was just fishing there 3 weeks ago. The light house had unlimited spade fish. Right now flounder are everywhere especially near shore, reds are in the inlet. Dropping crabs by bridge pillings huge sheep and reds
Those live scopes are amazing. Personally I think they shouldn’t be used in professional tournaments and events of that nature. Closes thing to cheating you can get without breaking the rules
You would not benefit from it. Although it would let you identify fish while slowly traveling along. I got it on my old Town autopilot 136, it is very nice on sand flats, however not so nice when grass shows up. Would work better in your deeper water areas for fish separation from structure. I use it in shallow water, in perspective mode. I one time saw about 300 cow nose rays pass in front of the kayak in 6 foot depth, but never saw them on the surface. That was kind of nuts lol.
Well I Feel The Same Way One Of My Kayak Angler Buddy Bought His And e’s Bragging Around What He Bought, I Rather Do Under Water Camara For 1/4 Of The Price
My first time Kayaking and this Kayak held strong. ua-cam.com/users/postUgkx4k5UrhC3v_Y4hIEaXLGvHcN5a5aBmZNB The water got pretty rough as a speed boat zipped by me, and the Kayak withstood it (I expected to be capsized). The Ores are very easy to put together, the pump worked beautifully. the seats are a bit hard to sit in after a while (I recommend sitting on the floor). after reading the reviews I was very scared it'd get a hole in it, the material is very strong and durable. The Air valve may need a small Phillips head screwdriver to adjust, other than that, it's well worth the money!(update)I've gone Kayaking in 3 Lakes and 2 rivers totaling about 40 miles. the kayak had two holes and they patched easily and no other problems can't wait for kayaking season this year!
Interesting take on the Live Scope. I don't think your opinion is a minority. Live Scope certainly has its advantages, but at what cost? I have seen what a drone can do for finding fish and I felt dirty afterwards. Humminbird side imaging alone is silly in its own right, IF you know what you're looking at. I can distinguish cobia from bull reds. Its a cheat code. I still cherish the hunt and do not think anymore technology is necessary.
I’ve seen great anglers over time loose their ability because they became totally reliant on livescope. I personally don’t think it’s a good thing for fishing as a sport or competitively. It takes away a huge part of what makes fishing such a great sport and what separates a great angler from an average one. One thing to note, seldom is a freshwater tournament won these days without using livescope to win it. And many of them are won by average anglers. You are not an average angler. Stay old school. Your really good at it.
Personally, I can't justify the expense for my boat. From what I see with them is you tend to spend too much time on inactive fish and staring at a screen all the time to see your lure near the school. Normally you'd move on to find active fish but if you see them, its hard to leave them. The technology will improve and the cost will go down like the side view and down imaging technology.10 years ago it was $2 g's
Older guy here and just my opinion but first fish finders, drones and now live scope - I thought it was called fishing. Thanks for sharing 👍👍
As a Virginia Beach native, this got me stoked as hell.

Love fishing down the bridge tunnel for big sheeps. Cobia and bull reds are prime this time of year until end September

The sea was angry that day my friends...like an old man trying to send back soup in a deli.
I was in the pool!
Tech may fail you but your expertise doesn’t. Live scope or not, it puts you on the fish but doesn’t catch them. That’s you Elias.
Nice Pompano catch on the micro jig!!
Another good session on the water. Fishing for Pompano with an artificial lure is like raising Trout on a dry fly. One major difference: the Pompano tastes better.

I feel this. ESPECIALLY with trout and puppy drum half the fun for me I’d finding fish using just a lure I only look at depth temp and a map.
I share the same sentiment with Live Scope. It's amazing technology, but there is so much add'l satisfaction when you read the water and guess where the fish are. Once that guessing game is gone, I don't think I would get that much enjoyment out of it.
With a little effort and time, you can pretty much eliminate that guessing game without electronics anyways.
You’ve gotta be one of the most catching-est anglers I watch. Keep up the good work brother! Continued success! 🚀🚀🚀
That man was born to do this!
Yep, I believe he could throw mud on the hook and catch his limit.
Cool seeing that submarine at 6:47
That Red was really pretty, really clean. Looked great.

I do like that idea of seeing reactions and what you might be doing wrong. Cool learning experience.

This is Virginia Beach. No snakehead in those waters.
Solid ✊🏼
I don’t think it will effect your fish catching. You seem to be one of the best at vertical jigging or structure fishing. I got a buddy and he got side scan and we Fish for Speckled Trout and Flounder and Drum and he said he can see the fish on the bank but that don’t mean they will always bite. Hope this helps
do you like that life vest? any remarks?
I do - nice lay out.
I think is cool as crap seeing what's on a piling. but being on a kayak and as much as they move around your working over time trying to point the transducer where you want it to. for you I think it would be a lot easier on the autopilot. kinda one of the reasons id wanna buy the autopilot. you can use the spot lock so your not constantly steering the kayak and the active target transducer.
how is the power consumption?
I think maybe I'll put it on one kayak and see how I like it from there.
And I’ve used it maybe 6 hours at the longest give or take.
can you keep the drum in VA?
yep
Damn you in my neck of the woods
I was just fishing there 3 weeks ago. The light house had unlimited spade fish. Right now flounder are everywhere especially near shore, reds are in the inlet. Dropping crabs by bridge pillings huge sheep and reds
Those live scopes are amazing. Personally I think they shouldn’t be used in professional tournaments and events of that nature. Closes thing to cheating you can get without breaking the rules
Love your videos! Just curious--what cameras do you use?
Go Pro 9 and 11
E I just picked up a basic yak and was wondering what type of pfd you’re using?
Old Town PDF
You would not benefit from it. Although it would let you identify fish while slowly traveling along. I got it on my old Town autopilot 136, it is very nice on sand flats, however not so nice when grass shows up. Would work better in your deeper water areas for fish separation from structure. I use it in shallow water, in perspective mode. I one time saw about 300 cow nose rays pass in front of the kayak in 6 foot depth, but never saw them on the surface. That was kind of nuts lol.
Cool I'll think on it!
Well I Feel The Same Way One Of My Kayak Angler Buddy Bought His And e’s Bragging Around What He Bought, I Rather Do Under Water Camara For 1/4 Of The Price
What rod is that I don’t see the color in the build description?
In this video it’s the night ranger but blue cork grips and black? How did you get that?
It's a custom night ranger. When you check out you can get a custom build for it!
What bridge is that in Virginia?
Interesting take on the Live Scope. I don't think your opinion is a minority. Live Scope certainly has its advantages, but at what cost? I have seen what a drone can do for finding fish and I felt dirty afterwards. Humminbird side imaging alone is silly in its own right, IF you know what you're looking at. I can distinguish cobia from bull reds. Its a cheat code. I still cherish the hunt and do not think anymore technology is necessary.
Thanks Brad - it's cool but yep at what cost.
Can a bull shark tip that kayak over?
Personally, I can't justify the expense for my boat. From what I see with them is you tend to spend too much time on inactive fish and staring at a screen all the time to see your lure near the school. Normally you'd move on to find active fish but if you see them, its hard to leave them. The technology will improve and the cost will go down like the side view and down imaging technology.10 years ago it was $2 g's
Live scope is awesome technology, but I feel like it takes away from the fun in the challenge.
Hey what bridge is that. can't be to far from me.
Honestly, I think live scope is a great tool but not for me. I think I'd focus on it too much instead of relying on my instincts.
