Despite being born in 2004, I grew up on StarCraft 1 and then 2 when it came out. Man did I love those two games. Time flies so fast, it feels like yesterday I was learning my multiplication by playing StarCraft.

"faggit?" I just *though* that this community was wise enough to see that TA = Total Annihilation. I guess I am wrong. So, for future reference, T.A. = Total Annihilation. Also, I have the right to use abbreviation to shorten words down to size, so instead of typing let's say a 25 words, I can put an abbreviation. However, on my part, I didn't put dots after these abbreviations... My bad.
@Jim I mean: you have the Zero which is a society of Xenomorph type of aliens. (The underrated demo of the first Starcraft game even calls then Xenomorphs which must have been a huge problem for the licensing) The Protoss are a race of warrior like creatures that have mastered flight and light based weaponry even invisibility with energy based weapons that instead of strictly relying on distance, they still prefer close quarters with energy based weapons. And the humans are just space Marines from Aliens. They still use projectile weapons based on chemistry not energy, They still rely on steampunk like technology of basically surrounding everything with enough metal. The smallest energy weapons were the size of battle cruisers. We never even get an explanation how this underdeveloped human race even solved the gravity problem of living or traveling in space ships.
i really love when an extract of this theme appears in the instalation window of SCII when you're listening the past events in the game universe. best RTS game ever, after 13 years i still enjoy this jewel.
First time I played SC was way back in 97 at my older brother's house, my middle brother and I would spend a day playing games in his PC and StarCraft (along Diablo) were two of the games that really captivated me as a kid. This theme brings good memories of the StarCraft "world", mysterious and exciting.
this song gives me this exciting urge to play starcraft especially when i used to go to internet cafe with my cousins the amazing relation between the song and the mood of the game is what attracted me to play this game
Whenever I start the game and hear this music, I feel like diving through the endless space. Planets I can see from the distance.. 😭 Damn this music hits hard even nowadays
Guys my dad would always play this when I was growing up. I’m 20 years old now and proud to say I’m still playing StarCraft Brood War. Just massacred Kerrigan 😅
I don't get it, how people say that SC2 sucks. Are you all stuck in the past and praise nostalgia the whole day? I think that SC2 has a great balance between keeping old units and concepts and bringing in a new atmosphere and new concepts.
I wish this song was looped so I can hear it over and over again without having to push the replay button. Oh well... never mind. I'll just load Starcraft and idle at the main menu.
Actually 57. And that's two games, Starcraft 1 and the Brood War expansion. If I had to agree on something, then that would be the fact that you play only one side in SC2, but I never found myself bored when playing the game. In fact, I found it did so many things to not make me bored and it's probably the only RTS game that did that for me. I would have liked Heart of the Swarm to have been released by now though, I want to play all three before the turn of the decade lol
man, im 13 and ive been playing starcraft since i was little. it was what got me interested in RTS. why is it that so many kids my age hate RTS games? i mean i like first person shooters too, but im like the only person i know that likes starcraft.
@Agent1W nothing wrong with that, I understand for me on the other hand, this game packaged something delightful for my taste. It was a game unlike other games that really picked my interest into it and later I found out about the story, it was quite thrilling because when you're little you don't care about something as little as a story As for the gameplay, it was alright and for me it held up for years. Nothing much to complain there except units that stop in crowds, common at that time though
It actually sold that many copies within 48 hours of being released. That number has gone way up since then. Though you are right, SC3 isn't coming out anytime soon. They gotta make SC2: Legacy of the Void first.
Everyone just misses the old days. It's not that SC2's musics suck. Ask ourselves 10 years later, when SC3 comes out. I'll bet that we'll all reminisce and say SC2's music was soooooo better...
i remember stories back in the day, around 1999 in Europe when we were sitting in computer cafe. dude came in who had internet at home while almost no one had internet back at home. and he played SC online. he challenge bunch of us noobs to 5 vs 1 him. he destroyed us all with no effort at all. and he was saying how SC is sport in Korea broadcasted on TV where they play tournaments. we were in shock and almost nobody believed him.
The game which changed everything in Korea... it made fast internet spread. It caused people playing it at the special places which has tons of computers with internet... which is called by PC bang. It created a new scene which in people play it professionally as a Pro gamer.
@ASubHumanOfSociety Right you are. They could've thought to give the theme a recognizale tune that resembles from the previous game just so each race has a theme with their own instruments, you know?
I played this game yesterday for the first time in 9 years and what can I say I couldn't stop playing, the graphics just take you back to those days when Blizzard ruled the RTS genre. I can't wait for Starcraft 2, I don't think I've ever been so pumped about a game before. Except for Warcraft III. Fuck World of Warcraft! Blizzard should make the Warcraft that every true fan from the series wants, an RTS not a fucking MMORPG.
To those who believe that Starcraft is a space opera, there are heroes and villains and Kerrigan is the chosen one, you've NEVER played the original and Brood War. Trust me, if you've never played the original and Brood War, you'll be in for a nasty surprise. :)
There's something magical about those first few seconds. Everything just rushes back listening to it

Stacraft is basically Aliens vs Predator done right. Take notes movies, this is how you build a world and a franchise and a great story.
Lol. Video game narratives & storytelling aren't really comparable. Different art form
It's more like Warcraft meets Starship Troopers
