Probably intentional, however the chemistry these three have is undeniable. Without that, this would be exactly as you mentioned "obvious and lame".
What makes this even more funnier is that India has a STRICT flag code , so even if Hammond painted the right flag , it would have gone down horribly.

No; the Union Jack's diagonal stripes, as you know, are not centred along the diagonal, they're to one side. The direction then ends up being clockwise or anticlockwise. If the flagpole is on the left of the flag, the direction is anticlockwise; and the reverse for if the pole is on the right. James' was the other way round. It's better to explain with a diagram.

An Aga is a big wood/oil burning iron fire/cooker. The manufacturer who makes them is called Aga.

It's an old-fashioned oil burning (sometimes gas) oven found in old cottages. It stays hot all the time so it's used for heating the house too.
