Foreal they constantly bag on each other but in those little moments when it’s just them their cars and a fire they show how close they really are laughing and having fun even if it’s not a 5 star hotel

Formula 1 (besides being the name of a motorsport) is the name of a brand of budget hotels in France. So what he means is that, while Jeremy and James would get excessively luxurious cars on this supposed special, Richard would get a Renault and a cheap hotel.

Am I the only one who thinks Hammond sports that fedora pretty well? To be honest I think it looks nice on him, it really made me sad though when Hammond saw his mini, he was having such a good time :(

They are always trying to fool us by pretending to not like each other but this scene amongst a few others is really showing the opposite. They are real friends
The extended version of the camp clip is even better.

One of the few rare occasions where all three of them are present, and getting along like best of friends. They're often tremendous company when they're paired up and sharing unpleasant comments about the one missing, but as a trio they almost always squabble, maybe intentionally. It's just good to see them all laughing together for a change.
I love Hammond's sound effects for things. He looked genuinely heart broken when the front came off the mini.
That ending was genuine, and truly explains why they stay together through the years :)
My favourite part about this is in the director's commentary where Andy Wilman describes the disassembling Mini as "it's like a rubbish transformer" haha!
I will miss this kind of moments in "Top Gear", I know they will be together in Amazon show, but it just was Top Gear, the show I loved watching for 8 years.
Since they’ve moved to just doing specials we’ll see more of these campfire moments. The Mongolia Special definitely felt like old Top Gear.

As a great mini fan, this is painful to watch.
Old Top Gear wasn't about cars, it was about three friends having fun on the BBC's budget.
And that's what I loved
"Use explosives to clear away the debris" Me: "YOUR CREATING MORE DEBRIS FROM THE EXPLOSIVES!!!"
Only a little is used to turn huge boulders into little bits so you can move them off easier.
I think the reason why I always loved this series is because I get the distinct impression that these three guys really are good friends.

I have to agree with this. Those 3 cars were perfectly serviceable, attractive and useful cars at the beginning of the show. Even the XJ-S ran perfectly. Then, it all went into tatters.

The front of the Mini broke apart because Hammond had his winch attached to the damn pumper. Thus when attempting to pull the much larger and heavier Rolls it crumbled. Its amazing how much the BBC spend on buying theses cars so Hammond, Clarkson and May can reduce them to complete right offs lol. I can see why James May gets the nickname Captin Slow
They were piles of scrap anyway lol, don't worry, they aren't exactly getting Cayman GTSes
And even if…
Top gear was so big at that point. 300 million people watched it. So the BBC got rich by just selling the license to the show. There’s a reason why Clarkson was allowed behavior so long that doesn’t really match the BBC otherwise (not meaning that I don’t like Clarkson swearing and his dark humor, I fucking love it)
If the producers wanted it they could give them brand new cars. Buts it’s just more interesting with these old cars and that they might break down
A lot of it was scripted, a lot of their "mistakes" were basically planned. No one would be interested in their road trip projects if every thing went 100% right.

One of only two laugh out loud moments in that special, and the only one not clearly staged. Top Gear was always at its best when they failed calamitously unintentionally.

i really liked this special! it was interesting learning about how people live in india. with the food transportation and trains and that. i never imagined id end up liking top gear so much. they're very good presenters

If you could put up with the bouncing around that Rover Mini would be perfect for that terrain and for going up hills like that. I don't see how he ever thought putting a winch on it would be a good idea, even if it wasn't attached to the wings
