Volkswagen ID.7 Review: Audi luxury for VW prices?

- The Volkswagen ID.7 is the flagship electric car within the German brand’s range. It uses a 77kWh battery to give a claimed range of more than 380 miles from a single charge. And if that’s not enough, an 86kWh battery version will offer a claimed 430 miles from a charge.
Measuring almost five metres long, the ID.7 has an extremely roomy interior, as well as a big boot. It is also packed with technology such as its 15-inch infotainment screen, and can be specified with gadgets such as massaging seats and a Smart Roof that can be made clear or opaque at the swipe of a button.
In this CarGurus UK review, Chris Knapman puts the ID.7 to the test to see how it fares on UK roads when it comes to comfort, performance, long-distance ability, and more. With prices starting from under £52,000, the ID.7 looks like decent value for money, but should it go on to your EV shortlist?

Just ordered mine, time will tell.
You will absolutely not regret. Picked-up my ID7 last week. What a great car. Looks, the feel, the drive. All the luxury. The software is also very much improved. Had an Audi Etron before the ID7. The VW is better.

@mendywouter5628 I sm glad to read your great experience. It looks understated and plenty powerful enough. I am looking forward to the Skoda version as I have had 3 Octavias and enjoyed them all.
Given the option I would definitely have this over an i4, Ioniq 6 or Model 3. I'd like an EV family car that isn't an SUV, but with more storage space than those alternatives provide. Unfortunately though I can't afford to spend 52k. I'm hoping these do well and there are a few on the used market for good prices in a couple of years. Plus the Tourer version.
Yes, I would buy it. Especially compared to the BMW I5, Mercedes EQE 350 and Tesla Model S. (Why compare Id.7 to the BMW I4 - you wouldn't compare it to the Tesla Model 3 or Model Y either). You get far more car for the money by buying a VW ID.7. Then it may well be that it is boring to look at. But I'm inside it and have no problem with being anonymous :-)
I just ordered mine. The reason being the comfort the car offers and the price, which is several hundred euros less when (company) leasing than an i4 or an EQE. This will be my first fully electric car and I'm excited to see how it fares compared to my current Audi A6 55 TFSI E in terms of comfort and range (range on the A6 is abysmal if you put the pedal to the floor) 😂

Good. clear review. I just don't know who this car is for. In a world where almost everyone buys SUVs, who is going to buy this and why is it so much about 8k more than an ID4? 3.8 p/kwh is very good in the winter, especially on motorway miles. Not for me.
Refusing to move the fusebox is completely unforgivable in any car, let alone one costing over £50,000.
Why do you need to say "the claimed" figure, when you just have said, you have not driven the cycle the "claim" has been made.
2yrs from now and it'll be less than half price, need new tyres after only 12000 miles because of the weight and still only do 250 miles on a good day. Sorry, I'll stick with my little hyundai that costs 35quid to fill up and nearly 400 miles till empty and no heat pump needed.
Excellent quality video as always .
- Reduce asking price by £10k,
- improve charging -speed from 10% to 90% to under 10 mins,
- improve real World range to over 400 miles, and
- install ultra rapid (and reliable) charging stations in as many locations across the country as petrol stations.....then I might be interested.
The new Taycan may offer all that. Except the first item :)

10 minutes is still long enough to get mugged in any major city.
regarding your first point, just wait for the Skoda version to come out that will be at least £10K cheaper!
Instead of releasing new models and selling new cars it would be good if VW pulled their fingers out and fixed the existing recalls on the ID3 they've plagued us with.

To me, I think VW have made an excellent looking car here. Quality has been upgraded, as can also be seen with the new Tiguan. If you were just to compare this with other mainstream manufacturers the price is as per them all and much less than the very bloated prices BMW and Mercedes charge. You can’t mention Tesla in the discussion with this car as, size wise, it’s just out of their league. Plus, don’t forget, Tesla do on,y produce 4 cars and 2 of them don’t make it to UK. I am sure that if VW just made 4 cars the prices would be a lot less, and then you could only order 2 of them, both of which are on the same floor pan.

An honest review... True that white is not suited to a 'luxury' based vehicle... Good to see VW persisting with the expensive yet somewhat necessary option upgrades needed...
The bottom line is an overcomplicated vehicle that will date quickly and is still too expensive.. Maybe if it was fully kitted out for £52 000? Or just wait a year and they'll be at half price..
Ditch the screen & drop in a 2.0 TDI engine & I'll buy it. Wait, only 112 mph? Feck that. My diesel superb would eat it alive.

All these EVs will end up scrapped after 7 or 8 years when batteries fail. Look at the first generation Nissan Leaf. When did you see one last?
The Nissan Leaf had no liquid cooling or heating of the battery so their batteries died pretty quickly. Better and newer cars (except the new Leaf somehow, WTF Nissan?!?!!?) will have much better battery longevity, fair number of old Tesla Model S'es still going strong. Also batteries (or even individual modules in some cases) can be replaced, although right now the cost of that is rediculous.
When we hear talking about EV cars we can not pair with the world of luxury or nowhere near to it. But we should pair with 2 simple words: peace of junk.
£52k for a Volkswagen ?! No chance, definately a Tesla for me thanks if I had that sort of money. VW group are so screwed
You could pick other manufacturers...but Tesla? They are not premium at all.
How are they screwed? They charge over that for a touareg Suv with a v6 diesel and they sell fairly well!

@@peterarmstrong3853 the Seal is smaller and doesn't really provide enough practicality for many families, so I'm not sure it's a direct competitor
