Giant cruise ship arrives in Cornwall - and leaves immediately

It was due to be the largest cruise ship to visit Cornwall this year, but after arriving at dawn, it promptly turned around and left. Wondering if it was something they had said, people in Falmouth watched as the gigantic 181,541 tonne MSC Virtuosa glided into the bay just after 6am today (Friday, May 31) before swiftly doing a U-turn and heading back out to sea.
In what will be a blow for many local businesses counting on the boost in trade from the visit, the 331 metre-long cruise ship is now bound for Southampton, having cancelled its day in Cornwall at the last minute. It is understood that having brought the massive luxury liner in to anchor off Pendennis Point, the decision was made that the north-westerly wind was too strong to ferry the 5,000 or so passengers from it to Falmouth harbour.

If you've ever watched a ship review / tour of MSC Virtuoso , there is probably more fun to be had onboard than there would be in Falmouth high street .........

Of they couldn’t ferry the passengers due to the strong off shore winds in mid-may, don’t think October will be any better! 🙄
