The church in the main square in Boston (Copley?) USED to play a Bach Cantata every Sunday twenty years back, but I've no idea if it still does. I'll willing to bet that it does. But that's in Boston... Yes this is a beautiful cantata. I'd forgotten all about it!
@tdw57 If you believe in Jesus Christ, go to a real church where they do not sing "pop" music and actually worship God with the saints, instead of treating church like an optional occasional event.

+FriendlyCroock Sure, if you reduce a composer's work to his orchestral music, all the pre-classical composers are at a disadvantage. Even then, I think Bach holds up incredibly well; what he lacks in instruments he makes up for it in the voices. His music wasn't made to be intense (except maybe for his passions and the chaconne). The majority of it is spiritual in nature. In my opinion he's the greatest composer ever, even for the range of his compositions alone.
@@FriendlyCroock because the singers don't put enough emotion? Just how above everyone he is when it comes to compositional ability, justifies him as being alot more than just "pretty good"
Sublime music, no other word. Very sad to say however that as I listen to this, BBC Radio Three, once the UK's cultural flagship, is playing pop-style rubbish (distantly audible from another room where a radio's still playing). How are the mighty fallen.

First movement caught me by surprise. One of the most beautiful solos I have heard. There is a lot of Bach that still awaits being discovered by me.
Are there human words to comment on this?
So better just sit and listen in awe and silence...
Thank you for sharing this!
In my opinion the best set of cantata recordings of J. S. Bach was conducted by Rilling. Thanks for sharing!!!
If they did this stuff in church nowadays, I'd never miss a Sunday.
I'm an atheist, but I totally agree with you. If this were in churches, I'd be an often guest there.
This stuff is performed in the Church every Sunday, just in other format

@@romandobrovenskii9659 Music is the only important stuff that happens in churches. This work is indeed at a pinnacle.

I think this is quite possibly my favourite cantata- it's just sublime.
Sono tutte Sublimi. Nessuna esclusa. Bach è Divino e Immenso 🌌🌅💯 Le canto spesso da Baritono 😁😁
One’s soul comes to cry for the beauty of this music

Balthasar707 2. is not a choral, it's a chorus :)

Saluti dall'Italia.
That's exactly my point. Maybe I'm wrong though. Saludos de Argentina :)
#2 sounds like Crucafixus from B- Mass.
Maravillosa obra. Maravillosa música. Gracias Bach. La interpretación fantástica.
Thank you for uploading this - I was unfamiliar with this fine cantata. It's like a mini-passion.
It is a real gem. An oustanding piece of art. Thank you.
cantata muy calmada y llena de sentimiento concentrado
Очень понравилось!
Qué cosa tan linda!
Bach's all works are masterpiece

+FriendlyCroock someone like you can't and shouldn't judge a genius like Bach
Bach never wrote anything but fine music. However there are many works that are less than inspired. Bach was only human.

Dear Johann, you never cease to amaze me!!
I really like the long delay at the beginning. Bach was right on target with that.
Sadly the speed has taken over in too many places, turning Bach to sound like
in cartoons, MIcky Mouse music.
Sempre bellissime le esecuzioni di Rilling. Forse un po' lentina!
Words?? What words?? Silence. Humility.
Perhaps the most expressive and lyrical of Bach's Weimar Cantatas

Liszt did a great piece for solo piano on the motive the bass from the Crucifixos of this Cantata. Weinen, Klagen, Sorgen und Zagen.
9:34 sounds like Cruxificus from Mass in B Minor Cool!
It is the same section, only difference is the lyrics.

Barroco
BWV12: 8/10
Pretty good. It was hard to pay attention though, as I'm currently stressing out about an AP Spanish project. Chorale was nice tho.
