So far, he has checked off almost every single red flag of an abuser. Potentially escalating to a physical abuser. He has ZERO redeeming qualities and everyone is being WAY too passive with him. Especially Kylen. She’s being too complacent and letting him walk all over her. It’s going to get worse
When a woman is in a relationship like this, they take any criticism against the partner personally, and reduce contact even more. The toxic partner also blames the partner to consequences for causing others to criticize them. If she needs to go back for follow up medical care he could tell her no. Then if someone asks why, or insists she needs to go, she would defend him. It is a very unhealthy mindset battered people have.
This should be shown in family violence training to demonstrate how to identify red flag and signs of emotional abuse, coercive control, gaslighting, isolation tactics, etc.
I work as a tech in the postpartum unit and we unfortunately see so many of these dads on the unit and in labor and delivery. So many complain about the couch while their wives/gfs are agonizing in pain, or they make all the decisions for the mom in the labor room. It's so unbelievably sad that she is victim to this child who claims to be a man while berating her about her body, her decisions, and her birth. I hope she finds clarity and she leaves him for her and her son's betterment.
I lived in the US for 4 years, love your country it has so many positives, but one huge negative (only imo) is you guys have very well defined gender roles compared to the UK, Aus etc. I believe it may be due to the strong Christian value system that runs through society, it's much more prevalent than other countries I've been to. Men seem to be the provider, women are the homemaker. Even dating was weird to me because there are so many rules and expectations. Not everyone, obviously, but there are more males who want to be the "head" of the family rather than an equal partner. No hate, just an observation.

@@abdulraheem468 I say 50/50. There is a good book on the psychological breakdown of these relationships called "psychopath free" by Jason Mackenzie. It talks in detail about the psychological tactics used to entrapped people. Tactics used by sociopathic/psychopathic/narcissistic. The book also talks about recovery from these relationships. The best thing is to have knowledge about people like him and learn how to respond to their psychological tactics. I am 50/50 because yes she probably did miss red flags and warnings by other people. I also do understand the triangulation and ideation phase that sweeps an innocent young teen off her feet before the devaluation/gaslighting phases. Then it comes back to the slight ideation phase but not as good as the first one. I say innocent young teen in the sense that it is one thing to hear about evil people, it is a different ball game when experiencing evil people and their tactics
Good thing tobacco and alcohol are not "hard' drugs that are incredibly easy to quit and cause no societal harm...otherwise we might have people smoking or drinking themselves to death despite knowing it's bad for them... (FYI: I'm mocking Jason's logic and hypocrisy not people who struggle to quit smoking or drinking. Anyone struggling with any substance addiction has my sympathy and support)

Verbal, mental and emotional abuse are as devastating as physical. They are all huge red flags. She is young and very vulnerable. I'm sure every woman here, whatever her age, can identify with the vulnerable teenage girl this young woman is. This guy is a raging narcissist, just like the one I dated in high school. Constantly demeaning, controlling, talking to me like a child, and all the while convincing me I was as immature, unattractive, and worthless as he made me feel. Its so easy for a girl like Kylen to get caught in this trap. Given all her "failings", he convinces her she is so lucky he will tolerate her! Who else would? The baby will only become his weapon and will forever bind her to him. This guy will always have "anger issues". He's a narcissist. Its ingrained in his personality. He sees nothing wrong with it. Everyone else is wrong to point it out to him and everyone else is responsible for making him angry. The problem can't be him! I don't know what can help this poor girl and her child. We can only hope somehow her parents can rescue her. Until she gets away from him and looks at this situation from the outside, she'll never know any different.
This is heartbreaking. It tore me to see how she turned down her parents. she is so abused and brainwashed by her boyfriend to understand when that time comes where her parents aren’t around anymore, her parents last years were spent worried and neglected by their own daughter. He is an abuser and it’s only a matter of time before he loses his temper and puts hands on her. She’s too young and naive, I pray she can see what’s going on soon.

If no one's told them this, I hope they see this post, because this kid has a long history of issues. He was actually arrested at some point while he was at the hospital because there was a literal warrant out for his arrest. He has charges of driving under the influence, driving on a suspended license and a myriad of other issues. His hypocrisy of talking about abusing substances aside, he has a history of run-ins with the law and has multiple pending charges against him. Diving deeper, one of Kylen's former friends (I say former because Jason doesn't let her talk to them anymore) actually wrote into the show to tell the producers about Jason isolating her from all her friends and the abusive ways he would treat her. *****TRIGGER WARNING**** Kylen would even delete messages to her friends when she still talked to them because she was horribly afraid that Jason would see them. He made wild accusations at her expense, saying that she cheated on him with her own brother, saying he would ruin her life and even un-alive himself.There's screenshots from his own friends telling him he 'needed to chill' and that he was taking things too far. Kylen apparently had many issues with social workers because she wouldn't go to school, specifically because Jason didn't want her going. The reasoning was that she was in school and he was not, and therefore he didn't like her being able to talk to others without him knowing what was said. Kylen's former friend who shared all of this told the producer they understood that it might be too late for them to do anything, but that they wanted them to know and be aware for Kylen and her child's safety. The sad thing is it seems she's thrown herself headfirst into the Koolaid, because she refuses to acknowledge any of the horrible ways he treats her. It's so sad.

I hate that TLC airs this. This poor girl is in for a horrible life if she stays with him. He has no problem verbally abusing and gaslighting her on national TV and I worry that it will just get worse as they get older and more stress comes into their lives.

This is exactly why I have talked to my 15 year old sister and 12 year old sister about abusive relationships and how to recognize them. I ended up in controlling and abusive relationships and that is a huge fear of mine when it comes to my siblings. I’ve even discussed it with my 17 year old brother because gender doesn’t matter when it comes to abuse. I really hope the talks I’ve had with them have helped them to recognize warning signs and what not.

@@Idkdude50 It's not the warning that is important, it's the confidence and assurance the kids need. The abused are in situations where their abuser robs them of outside contact and a support group, and will make them feel the only person they can trust is the abuser. Insuring your kids can recognize the conditioning techniques, manipulation, and giving them the courage to stand up for themselves is a big factor in preventing someone from falling into that sort of situation.
In leaked messages he sent to her it's clear as to why she stays away from her family. He accused her of sleeping with her own brother, actually committing incest. Most likely she is terrified of seeing anyone in her family because she doesn't want to be accused of that again. She is clearly being abused by this guy. Also, the father is from what I remember actually terminally ill, so that's another reason why her parents are so concerned about wanting to see their grandchild. However, I am infuriated by the fact that they are not doing more to see her. She's still a minor, if I were them, I'd simply go to his house and forcefully take her home with me. I'd have done it while she was still pregnant as well so that he couldn't attempt to keep the child there. It's sick that no adult has stepped in and done anything to stop what is happening, and it's sick that TLC actually allowed this couple to be portrayed on TV (especially since a friend of Kylen's actually reached out to the show to explain how abusive the relationship was and provided screencaps of messages between them as proof and begged them not to include them in the show).
@@wintermourning If you look around on the reddit for the show, you can find screenshots of the messages. I mean, sure, they could have been faked too, but just from what we've seen of him on the show it does sound for sure like something he'd do.

And that doesn't send a great message. It can send the message "no one cares if you are abused, even broadcasting it on TV won't get you any help, so why even bother".
My heart hurts for her because this should have been one of the happiest moments of HER life and he ruined that. What makes it worse is the fact that she doesn’t even realize how toxic and abusive of a relationship she is in and is completely brainwashed by a teenage narcissist.
This makes me so angry. I'm currently pregnant and I can't imagine being separated from my dad and him not ever being able to see his grandson because of an abusive partner. When my husband and I told my dad he's going to be a grandpa he was so excited he told everyone at our work before we even got back in the building 😂. He missed out on babies since he worked two jobs most of my life and couldn't be there for my brother and I so he's excited for my son to be born and excited to babysit. Grandparents are incredibly important; my grandparents made me who I am today. I hope Jason gets dumped, he doesn't deserve to be a father. Fatherhood is such an important role and he already fucked it up.
This is entirely speculation, but if you watch the tell-all, Jason’s mother never says a word and comes across as extremely subdued. I, unfortunately, believe that this abusive behavior runs in that family

The funniest thing about this series overall, is that the parents of these teens take zero accountability for poorly raising their children. However, the teens are also too immature to actually understand a commitment of having a kid. Also, it is weird that the doctors wouldn't let the mom in. She's underage, so her having a choice to exclude a parent/legal guardian is insane tbh.

I’ve given birth 3 times and my husband being there all three times was MY choice as it should’ve been. Birth is a medical situation. Only people that need to be there are the mother, the baby, doctor and any medical personnel. Support systems like husband and parents are optional, not anyone’s given right. NO ONE has the right to see a baby born except for the mother and she has no choice in that matter since she’s the one birthing it
She’s 18 years old, pregnant, and just trying to figure it out with what’s she’s got. Manipulative abuse is hard to deal with for anyone, let alone being pregnant. I feel like it’s hard for anyone to make that decision for themselves to separate from that abuse even with resources because it’s hard to understand what’s going on that’s the manipulation part.
Hopefully by having the baby in that situation will make her wake up and realise she needs to get away for the sake of that child cause she certainly hasn’t done it for herself!
Considering she’s still a minor, depending on where she lives, her parents could take legal action against her boyfriend. It hurts to watch her go through this because going through an abuse relationship changes you. Plus having a child that ties you to them just adds another layer on top. I hope things get better for her

In case anyone is curious of what type of person Jason is, he recently got arrested and is facing 11 charges. There is quite a few charges but some of them include DUI, driving with a suspended license, transporting alcohol as a minor, and possession of tobacco products as a minor. He truly is just such a wonderful guy!
Here's to hoping he goes to jail and gets FAR AWAY from Kylen and the baby so she can have some time to think about the situation. I hope she leaves his stupid self.
As a person who lost her dad due to him being sick, it’s the worst feeling ever, and I always had my family in my life he was there when my first child was born, and when he was having a heart attack and I was just down the road from the hospital and I still couldn’t make it to say goodbye… I hope she gets better and sees how toxic he is and spends time with her family let her son get to know his other grandparents, because even if the babies don’t remember she could tell them how much the grandparents loved them…

I lived this life. It was a horrible. It will NOT get better until she leaves and gets away from him. You can’t change that he is the bio dad, but you can make sure he stops controlling your life, the blame game, the stress, the ruining of special moments….and the eventual guarantee controlling of that babies life.

Completely agree. It's so difficult for people who haven't been in an abusive relationship to understand why someone stays and I say this because I use to be the woman who would say I would never allow a man to treat me like that.... Well a few years later I got a first hand education into how you end up stuck in relationships like this and I don't think I would have made it out on my own. He ended up being arrested and is now in prison for life otherwise I think I would still be living that hell.
I really hope she and her baby escape that relationship. For the safety of both of them. He needs therapy and anger management classes. This is heartbreaking to watch

When you're in an abusive relationship you typically lean on the abuser because you're conditioned to think that you deserve the treatment you're getting. She is young, so it may be harder for her to come to terms and to get out of the relationship, especially since there is a baby involved. As of right now they are still together, but I hope she is at least able to see her parents now and gets rid of him soon.
That's part of the control, even when she's done all the "right" things to make him happy he won't give her the "praise"/love she's so desperately trying to get out of him, usually it gets kept till the person being abused is at their wit's ends/thinking about leaving that the abuser starts showing affection and trying to makeup 😣
my cousin has for 20+ years has been married to a guy like this since she was like 17 , he told her she was a drug addict cus the dr prescribed her iron pills and anti depressants then come to find out he was a methhead and drunk smh lets hope this girl leaves while shes young
This is literally how my ex was. I was mentally trapped for 5 years in that relationship. He made me turn my back to all my family/ friends. Thank goodness I didn’t have a child with him cause this is exactly how my ex would act. It’s all about control, that’s all they want is control over every aspect of your life. My ex put things in my head so I would believe him, and belittle me to the point where I had no voice and no confidence to be alone.Any time I got to secretly talk to my family they all told me how bad he was and how he was controlling my whole life. Years of them saying that and one day I finally listened and left. The best decision I’ve ever made. I’m so glad I got out. I really hope her family gets a better backbone and helps her. Cause he is just going to raise his son to be the same as him. And she won’t do anything about it. She deserves better, so does the child. Just looking at her face says it all.

Alcohol is One of THE WORST being that it kills you and is legal. Easy to get, hard to get away from in fact. One of the leading drugs that cause death. My grandpa drank himself to the point he'd die without it but would die drinking. No return. The hospital had to administer alcohol to keep him going. You become literally dependent when you're addicted. It is a disease and alcohol is by far one of the worst. Hes beyond naive. My mother also was an alcoholic. Several years clean but man was it rough for us all.

This is going to sound harsh, but it's probably best if the baby is adopted by a loving family. If she is not willing to stand up to her abuser, she is just as guilty of putting her baby in a dangerous situation as he is.

This is so sad. As a teen parent myself, all I wanted was my mother. Being young and a first time mom, you have so many questions and concerns and just knowing your mom is there to help you through it all was comforting. Although COVID made it so she couldn’t be in the room with me, even FaceTiming her made me feel so much better. I know deep down she wanted her mom but was too afraid to speak her own mind because of her baby dad. That’s so heartbreaking to me.

As a teenage girl who was in a relationship like this that luckily never got that far, she has absolutely nothing to do with it. It’s a cycle of mental and emotional abuse where she feels like she “deserves” it and truly only stays for the few times he’s nice to her. We don’t teach teenage girls these things and that’s why so many end up in this situation. It’s very sad that now she has the kid with him she has a much bigger reason to stay

I work as a tech in the postpartum unit and we unfortunately see so many of these dads on the unit and in labor and delivery. So many complain about the couch while their wives/gfs are agonizing in pain, or they make all the decisions for the mom in the labor room. It's so unbelievably sad that she is victim to this child who claims to be a man while berating her about her body, her decisions, and her birth. I hope she finds clarity and she leaves him for her and her son's betterment.
I lived in the US for 4 years, love your country it has so many positives, but one huge negative (only imo) is you guys have very well defined gender roles compared to the UK, Aus etc. I believe it may be due to the strong Christian value system that runs through society, it's much more prevalent than other countries I've been to.
Men seem to be the provider, women are the homemaker. Even dating was weird to me because there are so many rules and expectations.

@@abdulraheem468 I say 50/50. There is a good book on the psychological breakdown of these relationships called "psychopath free" by Jason Mackenzie. It talks in detail about the psychological tactics used to entrapped people. Tactics used by sociopathic/psychopathic/narcissistic. The book also talks about recovery from these relationships. The best thing is to have knowledge about people like him and learn how to respond to their psychological tactics. I am 50/50 because yes she probably did miss red flags and warnings by other people. I also do understand the triangulation and ideation phase that sweeps an innocent young teen off her feet before the devaluation/gaslighting phases. Then it comes back to the slight ideation phase but not as good as the first one. I say innocent young teen in the sense that it is one thing to hear about evil people, it is a different ball game when experiencing evil people and their tactics

Verbal, mental and emotional abuse are as devastating as physical. They are all huge red flags. She is young and very vulnerable. I'm sure every woman here, whatever her age, can identify with the vulnerable teenage girl this young woman is. This guy is a raging narcissist, just like the one I dated in high school. Constantly demeaning, controlling, talking to me like a child, and all the while convincing me I was as immature, unattractive, and worthless as he made me feel. Its so easy for a girl like Kylen to get caught in this trap. Given all her "failings", he convinces her she is so lucky he will tolerate her! Who else would?
The baby will only become his weapon and will forever bind her to him. This guy will always have "anger issues". He's a narcissist. Its ingrained in his personality. He sees nothing wrong with it. Everyone else is wrong to point it out to him and everyone else is responsible for making him angry. The problem can't be him!
I don't know what can help this poor girl and her child. We can only hope somehow her parents can rescue her. Until she gets away from him and looks at this situation from the outside, she'll never know any different.

If no one's told them this, I hope they see this post, because this kid has a long history of issues. He was actually arrested at some point while he was at the hospital because there was a literal warrant out for his arrest. He has charges of driving under the influence, driving on a suspended license and a myriad of other issues. His hypocrisy of talking about abusing substances aside, he has a history of run-ins with the law and has multiple pending charges against him. Diving deeper, one of Kylen's former friends (I say former because Jason doesn't let her talk to them anymore) actually wrote into the show to tell the producers about Jason isolating her from all her friends and the abusive ways he would treat her. *****TRIGGER WARNING**** Kylen would even delete messages to her friends when she still talked to them because she was horribly afraid that Jason would see them. He made wild accusations at her expense, saying that she cheated on him with her own brother, saying he would ruin her life and even un-alive himself.There's screenshots from his own friends telling him he 'needed to chill' and that he was taking things too far. Kylen apparently had many issues with social workers because she wouldn't go to school, specifically because Jason didn't want her going. The reasoning was that she was in school and he was not, and therefore he didn't like her being able to talk to others without him knowing what was said. Kylen's former friend who shared all of this told the producer they understood that it might be too late for them to do anything, but that they wanted them to know and be aware for Kylen and her child's safety. The sad thing is it seems she's thrown herself headfirst into the Koolaid, because she refuses to acknowledge any of the horrible ways he treats her. It's so sad.

This is exactly why I have talked to my 15 year old sister and 12 year old sister about abusive relationships and how to recognize them. I ended up in controlling and abusive relationships and that is a huge fear of mine when it comes to my siblings. I’ve even discussed it with my 17 year old brother because gender doesn’t matter when it comes to abuse. I really hope the talks I’ve had with them have helped them to recognize warning signs and what not.

@@Idkdude50 It's not the warning that is important, it's the confidence and assurance the kids need. The abused are in situations where their abuser robs them of outside contact and a support group, and will make them feel the only person they can trust is the abuser. Insuring your kids can recognize the conditioning techniques, manipulation, and giving them the courage to stand up for themselves is a big factor in preventing someone from falling into that sort of situation.
In leaked messages he sent to her it's clear as to why she stays away from her family. He accused her of sleeping with her own brother, actually committing incest. Most likely she is terrified of seeing anyone in her family because she doesn't want to be accused of that again. She is clearly being abused by this guy. Also, the father is from what I remember actually terminally ill, so that's another reason why her parents are so concerned about wanting to see their grandchild. However, I am infuriated by the fact that they are not doing more to see her. She's still a minor, if I were them, I'd simply go to his house and forcefully take her home with me. I'd have done it while she was still pregnant as well so that he couldn't attempt to keep the child there. It's sick that no adult has stepped in and done anything to stop what is happening, and it's sick that TLC actually allowed this couple to be portrayed on TV (especially since a friend of Kylen's actually reached out to the show to explain how abusive the relationship was and provided screencaps of messages between them as proof and begged them not to include them in the show).
I tend not to believe random comments on UA-cam but I actually believe this. That's really sick and sad.

My heart hurts for her because this should have been one of the happiest moments of HER life and he ruined that. What makes it worse is the fact that she doesn’t even realize how toxic and abusive of a relationship she is in and is completely brainwashed by a teenage narcissist.
This makes me so angry. I'm currently pregnant and I can't imagine being separated from my dad and him not ever being able to see his grandson because of an abusive partner. When my husband and I told my dad he's going to be a grandpa he was so excited he told everyone at our work before we even got back in the building 😂. He missed out on babies since he worked two jobs most of my life and couldn't be there for my brother and I so he's excited for my son to be born and excited to babysit. Grandparents are incredibly important; my grandparents made me who I am today. I hope Jason gets dumped, he doesn't deserve to be a father. Fatherhood is such an important role and he already fucked it up.
This is entirely speculation, but if you watch the tell-all, Jason’s mother never says a word and comes across as extremely subdued. I, unfortunately, believe that this abusive behavior runs in that family

I feel like it’s hard for anyone to make that decision for themselves to separate from that abuse even with resources because it’s hard to understand what’s going on that’s the manipulation part.

In case anyone is curious of what type of person Jason is, he recently got arrested and is facing 11 charges. There is quite a few charges but some of them include DUI, driving with a suspended license, transporting alcohol as a minor, and possession of tobacco products as a minor. He truly is just such a wonderful guy!
Here's to hoping he goes to jail and gets FAR AWAY from Kylen and the baby so she can have some time to think about the situation. I hope she leaves his stupid self.

As a person who lost her dad due to him being sick, it’s the worst feeling ever, and I always had my family in my life he was there when my first child was born, and when he was having a heart attack and I was just down the road from the hospital and I still couldn’t make it to say goodbye…
I hope she gets better and sees how toxic he is and spends time with her family let her son get to know his other grandparents, because even if the babies don’t remember she could tell them how much the grandparents loved them…

I lived this life. It was a horrible. It will NOT get better until she leaves and gets away from him. You can’t change that he is the bio dad, but you can make sure he stops controlling your life, the blame game, the stress, the ruining of special moments….and the eventual guarantee controlling of that babies life.

Completely agree. It's so difficult for people who haven't been in an abusive relationship to understand why someone stays and I say this because I use to be the woman who would say I would never allow a man to treat me like that.... Well a few years later I got a first hand education into how you end up stuck in relationships like this and I don't think I would have made it out on my own. He ended up being arrested and is now in prison for life otherwise I think I would still be living that hell.
I really hope she and her baby escape that relationship. For the safety of both of them. He needs therapy and anger management classes. This is heartbreaking to watch

I feel so bad for her. I was in a relationship like this as a 16 year old and these guys literally force you into a mindset and manipulate you into thinking like them and you WILL do it so they don’t yell at you or do something to you. I truly hope she’s able to escape him one day.

I feel so sorry for this young woman. One of the scary things about having a child is that you are forever connected to the person you had your child with. You are so vulnerable during birth and after birth and you need a lot of support, she isn’t getting any of that from her baby daddy. My heart breaks for her.
When you're in an abusive relationship you typically lean on the abuser because you're conditioned to think that you deserve the treatment you're getting. She is young, so it may be harder for her to come to terms and to get out of the relationship, especially since there is a baby involved. As of right now they are still together, but I hope she is at least able to see her parents now and gets rid of him soon.

That's part of the control, even when she's done all the "right" things to make him happy he won't give her the "praise"/love she's so desperately trying to get out of him, usually it gets kept till the person being abused is at their wit's ends/thinking about leaving that the abuser starts showing affection and trying to makeup 😣

This is literally how my ex was. I was mentally trapped for 5 years in that relationship. He made me turn my back to all my family/ friends. Thank goodness I didn’t have a child with him cause this is exactly how my ex would act. It’s all about control, that’s all they want is control over every aspect of your life. My ex put things in my head so I would believe him, and belittle me to the point where I had no voice and no confidence to be alone.Any time I got to secretly talk to my family they all told me how bad he was and how he was controlling my whole life. Years of them saying that and one day I finally listened and left. The best decision I’ve ever made. I’m so glad I got out. I really hope her family gets a better backbone and helps her. Cause he is just going to raise his son to be the same as him. And she won’t do anything about it. She deserves better, so does the child. Just looking at her face says it all.

Alcohol is One of THE WORST being that it kills you and is legal. Easy to get, hard to get away from in fact. One of the leading drugs that cause death.
My grandpa drank himself to the point he'd die without it but would die drinking. No return. The hospital had to administer alcohol to keep him going. You become literally dependent when you're addicted. It is a disease and alcohol is by far one of the worst. Hes beyond naive. My mother also was an alcoholic. Several years clean but man was it rough for us all.

I've been having good luck with naltrexone and a journal with daily writing prompts for alcoholism exercises. It helps me stay mindful and focused on WHY I don't want to drink. Full of useful therapy and education for recovery too!

This is going to sound harsh, but it's probably best if the baby is adopted by a loving family. If she is not willing to stand up to her abuser, she is just as guilty of putting her baby in a dangerous situation as he is.

This is so sad. As a teen parent myself, all I wanted was my mother. Being young and a first time mom, you have so many questions and concerns and just knowing your mom is there to help you through it all was comforting. Although COVID made it so she couldn’t be in the room with me, even FaceTiming her made me feel so much better. I know deep down she wanted her mom but was too afraid to speak her own mind because of her baby dad. That’s so heartbreaking to me.

As a teenage girl who was in a relationship like this that luckily never got that far, she has absolutely nothing to do with it. It’s a cycle of mental and emotional abuse where she feels like she “deserves” it and truly only stays for the few times he’s nice to her. We don’t teach teenage girls these things and that’s why so many end up in this situation. It’s very sad that now she has the kid with him she has a much bigger reason to stay
