I think that was their goal when making Tigrex actually. Because Kushala Daora was the previous flagship, a metal dragon that can control the winds. So they wanted to do something way more simple for the next one.
FYI, the tail sweep Tigrex has in Rise was also in Iceborne, though he only does it when you're behind him. Also in Rise, Tigrex's initial charge where he rears back homes in you, which makes it difficult to dodge if you're at close or medium range.
You forgot to mention his environmental interactions. In Freedom Unite if Tigrex charges into the mountain cliff, his head will become lodged for a few seconds allowing an opening
I absolutely love Tigrex. He was my first wall in MH4U, I farmed Molten Tigrex for his armor, and Brute Tigrex is one of my favorite hunts in Iceborne. I really hope we see Molten Tigrex in Sunbreak
A fairly important thing that wasn't mentioned in the video, Tigrex got MUCH slower during his rage mode in MH4 onwards. I went back to play MHP3rd recently and was reminded of the speed of his charge, that thing did not leave a lot of openings while enraged back then.
@@joe4095 indeed he is. It was almost impossible to find an opening during his rage, it was a never ending spam of attacks. Everytime i beat him i wonder how did i even do it lol absolute nightmare to grind stuff from him
Tigrex flying... that is a surprisingly cursed image as for my fave, Brute, not only is it a fun fight but it reminds me of my pet cat with the colours Molten also looks amazing, even if i have only ever fought it in stories 2
Nah, Tigrex flying is a perfectly normal sight in the old games. It's really only cursed if you've only played World and Rise. Same goes for Nargacuga.
Hope you all enjoyed this! I had fun editing this one, and gained a new appreciation for Tigrex too #TigrexFan The next Evolution video will be on Zinogre! I also have a longer video planned, can't wait for everyone to see them both!
Tigrex has the best design of the whole franchise *full* *stop* It blendes the realistic yet cool look that Monster Hunter gives to monster perfectly. It looks like it could exist even in our world, but it's still full of personality (thanks mostly to his expressions) and badass looking.
Honestly, I feel like in MH's lore Tigrex evolved to fill a very specific niche in his ecosystem(s). He's a very special type of wyvern, obviously, a mix between a brute and flying wyvern. However in my opinion, tigrex started off as a flying wyvern before evolving into the brute/flying mixture. Simply because to again, fill the niche. Being part brute and part flying is very rare and has its advantages. If you get into a sticky situation on the ground, why wouldn't you want to fly away and try to heal. And same in the air: if you get knocked down to the ground while in the air, having a thicker skull means you can head smash whatever knocked you out of the air. It's about power and speed. Also I believe that Tigrexs roar damages you because its straightening its windpipe and get the most out of its lung capacity. The only reason I think this is because it doesn't look comfortable to have its neck constantly pointing down, like if humans constantly hung their head, but it both serves as a defense mechanism and a form of attack.
i'd love to fight molten in Rise, they could amp up his blast dust use since we have wire bugs and he's the only one to not have a 5th gen version yet. with the orange bishhaten image we got recently, who i jokingly call Halloween bishhaten, it's obvious that Sunbreak will have a lot of subspecies and maybe some rare species added so now's a great time to add molten tigrex. not that he fits thematically or anything but he'd be a lot of fun for the closer to endgame part of the expansion and he's easy to add. i would prefer them also adding gigginox since it hasn't been in a game for a while and is its own monster not a variation. i'd also like to see lucent nargacuga because we already have an invisible monster with chameleos. why not use it more than once for a very different fight?
My idea of the Orange Bishaten is a Blastblight wielding Subspecies called "Nitro Bishaten", a Bishaten with fur the colour of dead autum leaves due to it's use of the Nitro Fruit, a rare and highly volatile fruit that explodes violently upon impact; over time the juice of the fruit has stained this Bishaten Subspecies' fur into a more orange/red colour and it can also apply this juice to it's wings and/or tail (like Soulseer Mizutsune) to apply Blastblight when that bodypart is utilized in an attack, but repeatably attacking or hurling a Firebeetle at the affected parts causes the Nitro Fruit juice to combust, knocking the Nitro Bishaten over Imagine how cool that would be!
It feels like it is evolving, just backwards though, the recent iteration of tigrex just never is as fiendish as it looked before because of how easy those games are
Thanks! Personally I would only feel comfortable covering Frontier if I had played it and could record my own stuff from it. Because I haven't I don't think I could accurately discuss anything in it without getting a ton wrong. I know Frontier is playable to some degree but it's also like, really long and I don't have the time or energy to beat it, especially after recently beating MHFU and 3U back to back.
I didn't know tigrex could fly at all. Is it still lore or did they change it with the world update? Either way Im a huge fan of the fluid movements tigrex has in world. He's not very memorable in rise so far but I still love fighting them. Tigrex is one of the best.
I think he used to fly since FU, and its a flying wyvern after all, its just that his body may not be able to fly for too long...Akantor/Ukanlos is a flying wyvern too but maybe they didnt evolved to fly
Grimclaw is pretty much the only Tigrex I'm truly amazed with. Brute is good, but nothing really outstanding. Gen/U's Hyper Tigrex is surprisingly a different fight from a normal Tigrex, and for the better. I love the new attacks from Grimclaw even tho some of them don't make sense aesthetically-wise (LMAO the golden pillars). The attack where it turns sharply when charging to do a claw swipe is probably my favorite attack ever coming from a Tigrex.
I hated Tigrex in P3rd. With the stamina system they turned him from a pain train into an asthmatic klutz. I remember how hyped I was to fight him once again, coming fresh from Freedom Unite only to end up disappointed and sad over what they did to my boy making him catch his breath every minute and tripping and flailing on the ground like a god damn Magikarp all the time. I'm happy the next games decided to restore some of his terrifying glory.
Doesn't help that from 3rs onwards if you had a weapon with good exhaust on it. He'd be standing still most of the fight. Really sucks how something that seems like a basic apex of most monsters has been nerfed constantly just so players don't have much trouble with him
funilly enough whislt the stamina system made it's proper debut in 3rd gen, i think tigrex had it back in fu and you could see him visibly slow down and that was usaly the tell to use tainted meat on him.
i do have a question, a little of a noticable thing as i started to re-watch the Series: at 2:05, what is with the Pokemon picture, that would be present sometimes in the other series at that split secont? (if you can't find it: go to the questioned timestamp, and use < and > to skip by a 0:00.001 seconds )
Idk man, tigrex became a bit slower since MH4 dropped but he was still pretty fast.. tho once MHW:Iceborne came out, he's like a slug compared to back then.. especially the Rise iteration I've made a comparision video on my channel for Tigrex (Teagrex spoken btw :^) ) in Rise vs MHFU, check it out and your mind will be blown away as the difference is HUGE
Tigrex was butchered in gen 5. Before it always had the face a psycho, it was very expressive. Now though it's still tecnically "expressive" but now he's super chill. He looks stoned now, also his eyes are incredibly small. And don't get me started on brute. It was badass ashen pale in gen 3/4 but became poop brown in Iceborne.
@@Miki-hk6vy Eh but the problem is the exact opposite, the original Brute had very watered down and gey-ish colors and it's the Iceborne version that is too vibrant and looks like poop.
For me,compared to the 5th gen tigrex, the old one's face just looks goofy and weird. I also prefer the darker brown and brighter orange of the new brute tigrex

Tigrex's most powerful move is making people question the pronunciation of its name, causing hunters to turn against each other.
