Same. Haven't seen the video yet but my first answer is no. I love exploring every new area they update. Maybe I don't come back to some places like Enkanomiya but I always have a good time exploring
It's true though, it's fine. I have barely even 100% Mondstat yet but at the end of the day, you get out what you put in so, imo it's fine as it is now, there are other games with a huge amount more than Genshin, you can take your time or no life it, no real rush.
I can't express the amount of frustration I feel after exploring an area, running into a puzzle, and racking my brain for hours trying to get through only to realize I was gated because I didn't start the questline.
Exploring is fun, but what i hate is when we have to do these quests before hand, idk how inazuma managed to pull of the tree workd quest, but personally that was way better than the sumeru desert, even the aranaka was fine.
I agree. It was a little better in the desert, but in the forest there is a lot of you stuff you cannot do before completing that long ass quest, it is so frustaring.
its because sumeru is accessible before u can go to inazuma. they use quests to block us from making progress in sumeru too early and forced us finish almost entire inazuma 💀
Pre-watch comment: To Genshin's credit, exploration is really the only form of content you have. Once that is done your game loop consists of just completing events, doing dailies and rolling for characters. Exploration is it's main source of entertainment and permanent stuff that the player has at their disposal (barring the TCG, but it's not the main appeal of the game). Without it, Genshin would be much more lifeless with much less things to do than it is right now.
Exactly, I would perfer even more exploration or at least reset challenges to get low rarity chests. Exploring areas already passed through feels extremely empty
take into account that the open world stuff is what causes the game to be contentless, Genshin often or not has 4 to 8 months of dead week because creating a brand new open world too explore takes way too long, it doesn't help that a majority of the new Gacha characters comes from regions already completed in the story. which means, they get no action or part to play in the upcoming new region plot which is disappointing unless they we're non playable
I'm a former avid hiker who was diagnosed with a severe neurological condition 7 years ago. Long story short, I've had severe mobility issues since then and can no longer hike, let alone run. I use a wheelchair often. So obviously I'm biased, but the main draw of Genshin for me is, and has always been, its exploration. It allows me to somewhat connect with an activity I loved but can no longer do. Otherwise, I've seen its kind of story and the way lore is hidden in plenty of other WRPGs and JRPGs. Don't get me wrong, I'm still interested in hearing more about it, and its fun being so OP/trying different teams in SA after playing since 1.1, but without new areas to explore, I'd probably have dropped playing this game long ago.
Similar situation. I absolutely loved hiking and climbing during my twenties, but due to health reasons it isn't something I'm able to do anymore - so you have my sympathy. Hope you're able to find happiness in other hobbies! Genshin included.
Sorry to hear about your condition, I hope it gets better in some way for ya. Your comment is on point though, but if you ever run out of exploring to do I hear modded Morrowind and its ever expanding land has you hiking over mushrooms and mountains (both of varying sizes) all the while discovering fun things. :D As AR 60 player who always prioritized exploring the game world over anything else and fell so far behind in Genshin's main story he barely finished Inazuma by the time Nahida's banner was out, Genshin had to go. I hated trying to keep up with the limited time things so much so I couldn't find joy in exploring anymore nor did it feel like I was even discovering anything remarkable on my journey through Teyvat. I suppose not understanding why I was collecting some green Sumeru things to level up the huge onion felt artificial and "gamey" in comparison to unlocking pillars and the sealed door in Liyue by collecting the yellow versions of the same thing?
@@李荣-n7s You missed the point. The video's topic is about exploration, so I told how I felt about it. It doesn't matter whether they unlock something or not. A core gameplay design for Genshin is collect-a-thon - you explore and collect a lot of things for various purposes. I gave an example of collecting Sumeru's green (whatever they are called) things, which felt far more artificial than previously likely because it had been done before in each unique area in different better ways. There was context and quests related to collecting them for both Inazuma and Dragonspine's trees, but hardly any justification for Sumeru. It's only busy work to stop you from thinking about what you're playing, much like the vast majority of the events.
@@Silent_Depths "the huge onion" has the longest quest-----Aranara quest...so many people complain it is too long.... and you tell me there is hardly no quest relate to the ""the huge onion"?...you talk no sense...
I wouldn't mind the exploration if the Treasure Compass worked properly without long cooldowns and it would also show mini puzzles that you tend to leave behind if you aren't using Interactive maps. I feel like the Treasure Compass are more of a hinderance than a useful tool. So I always stick to the Interactive Map for the chest completion.
I wish the interactive map marked off things on its own so when you feel accomplished with ur exploration progress and don’t want to wonder around aimlessly you can check the map then - a guy who re-exported liyue, mondstadt and dragonspine with the map (and still missed a chest 🤦♂️)
I play on mobile. Switching back and forth from app game to interactive map is tedious. and if u stay too long on one, the other resets. Vice vera, if i stay too long on interactive map of Hoyolab, the genshin app resets and i have to let it load again when i go back.
@@UncleMerlin They can do that already with player in-game markers in the official interactive map, they could (if they wanted) sync game data with the interactive map, so you can check what did you miss, but they don't want to do that.
For me, a completionist by nature, there is no such thing as too much exploration. I could wander for hours looking for chests or simply nice views and never get bored. Most of my Genshin buddies, however, don't even care about exploration, and still haven't 100% Mondstadt for example. So I guess it's about personal preference.
I only really don't have Liyue fully maxed because it's actually my least favourite region to explore. And well, new desert area because I have 2 accounts and explored it on one but not yet on the other.
As someone that is also completionist by nature that likes seeing those "100%" markers, be it A Hat In Time, Banjo Kazooie, or any other game, no amount of exploration is too much for me. However, I do have a plan to replay Genshin Impact from start to finish after release of Snezhnaya at some point (to see how different the game feels from a fresh restart), and I don't think I would want a 100%-run again, and redoing all those quests to get required items and access to other areas is going to be quite tiresome to skip/marathon through, so I can totally see the pain of a player that isn't interested in the dialogue. Which is why I highly question the people that play the game with the intention to skip story and exploration when that is such a big and important part of it.
I honestly love exploring in Genshin! Its just kinda sad that after you complete an Area, there is no logical reson to go back to it exept for taking a few cool screenshots or get the last 2% of exploration. I would love if there were some kind of replayable content in sertain areas just because it feels like a waist to design them so beautiful but then leave them in the basement where noone can see them! ( espacially that one cave in the North of Liyue where you play protect the monolit once, it would be so cool if you could repeat the challenge either for elite farming or just damage testing).
Well, events usually bring us back to places we've been to. So it's a situation where we would be brought back to an old place we've been to every 2 weeks, unless the event is for a new area, of course.
There's already repeatable mining, foraging and mob farming in already explored areas every 1-2 days incase you are lacking the overworld resources to ascend certain characters or weapons. Fishing every 3-4 days exists as well, but that's a *very* subjective activity across many video game communities. More reasons to backtrack are always welcome though, personally-speaking.
Because they are actually suck. You cant find a worthy secret, like a secret dungeon or secret boss like normally rpg do. Everything has been marked on the map
I like exploration. I have all pre-Sumeru zones at 100% and I enjoyed exploring them. My problem with Sumeru is that it requires too many units to explore comfortably. For puzzles you need Dendro, a bow character, Electro, Hydro and sometimes Pyro. I preferred where I could use the nations element + 3 characters that I liked or wanted to play.
This is true. there’s too many much types of character weapons or elements you need. have to switch teams or characters often. and such feels disruptive in exploration continuity.
When Sumeru came out I built fischl because she was electro and bow mainly for exploration. With the dendro grana U don't need dendro too often I really felt forced to use bows in the overworld and also during the main story( or maybe the side quests don't remember) the dungeons have puzzles that mandate u to have a bow character and that is not even speficied anywhere.
But that's the characteristics of each region..in Sumeru, dendro is the main elemental power so it makes sense that most puzzles would require that elemental power...
For new players: You're already super late so there's no need to rush, take your time and enjoy the story if you play for the story. All the missable event cutscenses are on youtube if you want to watch them.
The incredible amount of exploration in Genshin is what sets it apart. Nothing else touches it in terms of world design and the sense of awe you get when you discover something new and breathtaking. This game never ceases to impress me with each new addition to the growing world of Teyvat. Even more impressive is how it all serves a greater purpose to the story and lore.
Completely agree. Exploration for me is the best part of the game. Not that the other parts are bad, on the contrary, but I think Genshin is primarily exploration driven.
Exploration is one of the main reasons I play the game, it's Abyss that's the chore for me personally. Both are technically optional, but I really enjoy exploration and finding as many chests as I can.
@Joe Mama yup, just play the game the way that keeps you engaged. I don't feel rushed because all I have is time. I like always having something to do in a game. genshin is the first live service I've enjoyed because it's not a forced multi-player experience.
after AR56 i stopped doing daily comms i just explore 1-2 hrs and call it a day, and the game is super fun ngl after i had stopped pulling for characters
I actually enjoy exploring vast new areas Everytime a new area unlocks. And it just became my habit to explore beforehand then mark the interesting places that are locked of and has a potential to open after actually playing the actual quest/sub quest. And most importantly, take your time.
Another great option to collect a particular character's materials (Boss materials, Weekly boss materials, etc.) when you do not have the corresponding requirements fulfilled is Co-op. For example, if you have Alhaitham but have not started the Sumeru archon quests, you can still get Scaramouche's boss materials for his Talents by hopping to another player's world and beating up the boss in Co-op. I have been doing this for a long time, so I don't feel obligated to have to complete a specific set of quests.
Except when you're locked out because you're a new player and you reach out for help from other worlds but then you can only join in the world of players of lower or equal world level and they (highly likely) still haven't unlocked the region just like you
As a person who would happily spend hours just running around picking up random flowers, there is no such thing as too much exploration 😆 I am simply in my natural habitat 😂
Same 🤭 I also thrive when my entire map areas all sit at 100% exploration like right now ! Feels like a huge accomplishment even for each smaller map area 😅
I wouldn't call any of this more than an inconvenience. It wouldn't be better for events to be in a vacuum which is detached from everything. A big draw of events is to meet characters and seeing them interact with one another.
@@nabilanawrinnijhum or they change how retarded it is to get to inazuma in the first place. Its not a simple inconvience to get a shiny new yae miko and have to do 40 hours of content to get her past lvl 40.
In the cases you are talking, exploration is not the problem but more how the progression was designed. For the mats problems, I don’t think a specific shop in mondstadt that sells every region specialties would be too much to ask. For bosses, what about exchanges with the alchemy table ?
I've been playing since day 1 and love the open world, it's what keeps me coming back. They just need to provide better rewards for it. More world and side quests should give collectible momentos, unique weapons, pets, teapot items etc. Stuff that uniquely rewards you for doing the exploration content like the Dragonspine claymore.
They can't add too much unique prizes for exploration, because 1) Western players will pester them with complaints about "how dare you require dedication and effort to get the shiny toys I want, that's ableist", and 2) CN players have limited playtime and would be unhappy as well. For now exploration has everyone on equal grounds as it is truly optional content which you're free to do at your own pace (even if the pace is "I never want to touch it", it's still okay). Unique rewards would change it and introduce pressure to explore.
I think you put forward very valid points but hear me out I'm a day 1 Genshin player + Honkai Impact Red Lotus (highest possible abyss bracket) player . I don't skip any cutscenes in Honkai but I want to skip most of Genshin ones. Problem isn't that Genshin has too many cutscenes, the problem is that most of it are lackluster, un-interesting. There're good ones but God it's so hard for it come by
Dragonspine was great, in that regard, a compact map with its own fashion... then we had Inazuma, each island being unique and well delimited; then Enkanomiya, with its great ambience and lore; then the Chasm, with its vertical depth... Sumeru is just too vast and, even though unique, overwhelming: the point of exploration is to search for surprises, but Genshin is all about collectibles and chests... I'd like to have new ways of moving around the map that actually feel fun (e.g. very fast gliding, parkour), instead of "oh, let's climb that spot, again, to get that x-oculus", in more compact and dense maps.
@@YukiThor wait cutscenes you mean the animated once like the lantern rite or the scenes in major world quests?those are very epic though maybe you are referring to something else
I really wish they could come up with a chest respawning system (by making it fair ofc), because I'm voluntarily restraining myself from exploring because I know that once I do it, I'll have nothing more to do except events I guess? But given how little primos a chest gives us, it wouldn't hurt them too much to make SOME random chests respawn after a certain due time
I will say that it is extremely taxing to explore the new regions, but it also ends way too quickly. It ends up being some sort of short lived exciting adventure, while also being quite draining at the same time.
You probably speedrun exploration to say that, something that I used to do because of how it hyped me to go and wander in a brand new area. Honestly it's more up to how you are able to limit yourself from explore-binding than anything, to force yourself taking more time to go through the content, map expansion are not time limited after all, and events do not occurs in those until one or two more patches. Once you achieve going on a slower pace it's a lot more enjoyable and way less taxing in the same time. I play everyday and I have yet to achieve 50% into that new sandstorm desert area just bc I'm taking my time and not try to finish it in one go. Yall should try that it's so much more relaxing
@@trottinettesauvage I love the desert areas a lot so I already 100% explored the new tornado desert part but I’m still under 50% for the forest area which I’m taking my time with
Open world exploration should follow the stick-and-carrot method where you get awarded with rare treasures for finding hidden chests or doing difficult puzzles. Botw balances it out perfectly, whereas in genshin the Stick is much more than the carrot.
Lol Mihoyo knows that by giving exquisite chests in Inazuma and sumeru the way they do for monstadt and liyue, there would be “too many” primogems and people would feel less willing to spend money
@@DefinitelyNotAFerret you do realize that exquisite chests in Mondstadt and Liyue except for Lisha, Guyun stone forest give only 2 primogems whereas Exquisite chests in Inazuma, Sumeru and expansion regions (chasm, dragonspine) ALWAYS give 5 primogems..... right? you are not getting less rewards for exploring new regions. quite the opposite LOL
No. Genshin does NOT suffer from the exploration. However, it suffers on one element: exploration, in Genshin, is not so much rewarding. I know, it's a different genre, but let's take a look at Breath of the Wild: wherever you went, you could find something. WHEREVER. And usually that game tries to reward the "micro" exploration, when you try to search for items and collectibles behind every stone. So the player is always rewarded and he is encouraged to go on with the exploration. The same happens, for example, in Elden Ring: a vast open world, and wherever you go you will find new, unique items, weapons etc.. It has less rewards, but at least they are always unique and new. Genshin, instead, is waaay less rewarding. There are various chests, but they're always the same. They should start to give some new and fresh reward, or at least they should try to stard placing more chests, in more specific points. Everybody remember the chests on the roof of the big castle, in Liyue Harbor, right? Or on the roof of Inazuma's castle. We need MOOORE chests like those ones. We need more chests (not more primo from the chests, but more chests) or more new rewards (for example some new 3* weapon from the chests), which can engourage us to explore even more and to pay even more attention during the explorations of the cities.
I think being "obligated" to explore is a bit of a strong word for it. From chests you don't actually get anything that valuable apart from the primos, and since genshing is a relatively easy game you can even complete it with the base characters. So apart from finding that few main bosses and the lvl up materials, you don't really have to do any exploration to actually play the game.
"that valuable apart from the primos" Well thats exactly the point. This is first and foremost a Gacha Game. If we already accept that Exploration is just a way to hide primos and get some stamina upgrades, sooome times get new f2p weapons to forge. It actually feels bad tha some areas in the game are too hidden in questlines and stuff that you wont find unless you actually not just explore but make weird stuff in some areas (or read some guides).
@@KaiserTheDarkWolf that shouldn't be much of an issue if it isn't time constraint, and other than the GAA islands, chests and hidden quests ain't going nowhere
I love exploration in Genshin, I just wish it didn't end so quickly. I have so much fun exploring for days when the new area gets released but then when it's over it's back to commisions + resin - end for today. At this point I wish I started to play in like 2025 when most content is released and I could have more exploration to do.
@@1manshow10 Depends on the locations. Mondstat has a lot of chests obtained through fighting slimes or other enemies. Liyue has a lot of chests hidden in rocks and inazuma has chests in mkre puzzles.
As someone who hast startet the game a year ago (at the time Sumero was really close finishing its archon quest meaning its was quite similar to when the video was uploaded) I can say one thing. The only characters that were not able to get an instant upgrade were the ones from Inazuma. And one thing that was absolutely not mentioned in the video: You are not able to max level your character on day one! Meaning levelling up a character is at the beginning restricted with your adventure rank. So even when you are not able to upgrade your Shogen you can still equip her with a good weapon and good artefacts (Something that you will probably overlook at the beginning) and use her for your game quite good. Furthermore one thing. When you are a f2p player (which I am) who has not spent a single penny on this game, you will realise that through exploring, you will get quite an amount of primogems to wish for your next character. And it is not required to explore a region to 100% just to get this one thing you need to upgrade. And finally, Genshin did a really good thing balancing between story and open world. Because in games like The legend of Zelda, breath of the wild, you’re just thrown into the world with no direction and also, no reason to explore it. Having enemies that are 20lv over you and one shot you just because you decided to go to the wrong place first. For more health you have to grind these temples (you need to complete 4 to do anything) that are at random places in the world. And you get no Direktion on what to do for anything. While in Genshin you have the clear story quest that leads you to the different places. Introduces you to the characters. And Guides you through the world. (Doesn’t mean that the grinding isn’t sometimes better). But your not getting thrown into the game after the tutorial and be like „Well good luck“. The quests give you a clear direction (Unlike Botw where you get one random quest that has to be done at a different spot in the world with no hints what so ever to get this quest done.) And when you get into Genshin, you can decide if you want to go on with the story or with exploring or levelling up your character. You can do what you want. Is it annoying to miss a day for resin? Yes but only if you’re active using it right now. Is it annoying to miss a big event? Yes, but to be fair, how many talents of your characters are actually that high Upgraded that you need every crown that you get? As my experience, the stress or drama you get, for grinding is when you plan to get every single character (Which is only possible when you invest a lot of money into the game) and upgrade them to max. Level. There are many videos or people, that play Genshin, recommending to only focus on one team. Make this strong and from there on you can do other characters. And I think this really nails it. It takes in the game a long time to even be able to upgrade your character to max. Level. Another thing is, your characters don`t need to be perfect. This is very often over shadowed by UA-cam and twitch. Having something decent is good enough. i could stop for a month and go on where I’ve stopped. I would even get some welcome back rewards from Genshin. And to everyone starting new with the game. Don’t stress yourself. Take your time and enjoy the game. There is like every month new content. So you dont‘t have to rush and get there. It will not run away from you. The story will wait for you to be ready for it. And to everyone wo is still playing and feels its more a burden than fun, turn off the game for like 15 days. And if you feel like it then turn it on again. And you will see, nothing has changed.
Personally I love exploring the world of genshin, sometimes I just wander aimlessly around the world and I find it so incredibly soothing. I started around the time nilou released, and I still remember when I stumbled into sumeru it was one of my favorite experiences ever in a video game. I do kinda agree with the example you gave with raiden if a new player gets her they won't be able to level her up cause they'd be locked out of inazuma, but that only really applies for characters from inazuma. My first 5* character was nahida so I didn't experience it first hand
I have two main thoughts here: - Story/event dialogue needs a major overhaul. It needs a skip button as well as a back button and log. I can't tell you how many times I've hit x when a character was still talking in an attempt to display all the text at once, and then accidentally selected the traveler's response, which meant that I was unable to read the text without pulling up the recording of my gameplay that my PS5 automatically provides for me. And don't get me started on characters talking to me while I'm fighting, which would be fine if it was voiced but it isn't. Text either goes by too quickly or too slowly and it satisfies no one. - There needs to be a way for players to access areas out of order. Maybe co-op could be the solution: you can visit another player's world to do the event if you haven't unlocked Inazuma, for example. Or there could be a portal that unlocks it temporarily for the duration of the event, locking you to the immediate area where the event takes place and teasing the region to you to make you interested in exploring. I don't think the other regions will be a problem in the future, since only Inazuma was truly locked down, but that still leaves places like Enkanomiya and the underground chasm locked to world quests that can only be done after significant progression. 5 characters (Shenhe, Miko, Yelan, Shinobu, Heizou) use those boss materials. Sure you could just not wish for Inazuma characters, if you haven't unlocked Inazuma yet, but Shenhe and Yelan are both from Liyue.
One problem I do have is that I very rarely am surprised while exploring. Apart from 2.0, 2.1, 3.0 and 3.1, versions typically only contain one or two areas. This dreepfeed means I'm never surprised at a new area, because I know that it will be there. Then, they spoil a ton of stuff with promo material. Finally, if you take more than 2 weeks to do something, you WILL get spoiled by the community.
yes, totally. I loved when there was hidden surprises and beautiful locations i randomly stumble into. this is what I really miss with genshin exploration recently. i guess it's also my fault for starting to watch some of the promos. they spoil some of the best locations they create in the game so there is no element of genuine "woah" by accidentally coming upon them organically
@@talisa222 do be true. However despite that there are still places that is incredibly beautiful that hadn't been talked about much. Like that one cave in Hadramaveth desert.
That's why this game have like 60million active players but only a million watching the trailer, because most of them not even join the community and not getting spoil or anything then just have fun with new contents, yeah maybe something like that
Exploring in genshin always was the best aspect of the game, it’s just for me personally I’ve just been so burnt out of the task that whenever new region sections come out I low-key dread starting it (but after I take the dive my interest in exploring snowballs until I finish everything)
I honestly think this isn't a problem unless we are talking about Liyue & Sumeru Those two areas are just too damn big, it takes forever to find everything without an video guide
Pre watch: I am a college student and I rarely have time to explore if its vastly nothing. I know adventures, cpmpletionist and avid explorers love the game because how it is but as a student with computer that will burst if I place the graphics on medium I really can't enjoy. My favourite game is actually Yakuza cause it has different gameplay for each small shops you enter and it has its own quests and everything. On the other hand genshin has repeating tasks and kind of empty. I'd be more grateful if genshin added quests to npc that could help you collect certain trivia and puzzles! Like there's an inazuma npc that can tell you where you missed your puzzle so you can collect and report or not report. Genshin is too big for its casual players...those who love the lore but can't really devote their whole afternoon. Those who don't plan and just go around collecting
I think what mitigates it in Genshin is two things: 1) How long it takes for new explorable regions or sub-regions to actually launch, coupled with 2) how little reason there is to revisit areas once they _are_ emptied out. That's the thing about Genshin. They do drop a ton on you, but there's so long to get around to it, it still doesn't feel like too much, and in fact, can feel like not enough. I didn't touch the first desert expansion for the entirety of the first patch it was out, and yet I still have all 3 subregions of the desert at 100% now despite not touching it for like a whole month or so later. Now the new desert region is the same - I have it at 4% exploration, but I have who knows how long to do actually do it? Probably at least a couple of months, if not more. And the thing is, that's kind of _all_ I have to do. I have nothing left to do in Mondstadt, or Liyue, or even Inazuma. And that's the distinction between Genshin and other open world games. Other games give you incentive to backtrack, almost from the start. That's kind of the whole point of open world game. Granted, if you haven't gotten 100% on a region then you have incentive to revisit them, but the moment you do have 100%, what's the point? Which again, is a thing mostly due to how long it is between expansions. There's a ton to explore but we're doing it at chunks at a time which nerfs the experience in my opinion. I want to know what the game will be like in the future (or even now) for those who start the game and truly _do_ have a ton to explore all at once. But for anyone who has been playing consistently and is caught up, nah, it doesn't feel like too much. In fact, can feel like the opposite. Only reason my new desert is at 4% is because I'm afraid of actually completing it and minimizing my content.
the thing is i don't think it's even possible to do more than they already doing. a 6 week update cycle is literally unheard of in any other game. especially one that contains as much content as genshin unless you want the devs to just work themselves to death
@Luvi khun 🧿 Thank you for sharing your experience. I think that's really interesting how different the game is for us. The open world for you means a totally different thing than it does for me. You're dealing with Mondstadt, Liyue, Inazuma, going to deal with Enkanomiya, The Chasm, Sumeru jungle, and both Sumeru deserts simultaneously. From that perspective I can see how it might be almost overwhelming. The fact you've been playing since Sumeru and haven't even made it to Sumeru says a lot. By the time you do start fully 100% cleaning up some older regions like Mondstadt or Liyue, we might be in Fontaine or beyond. You're at a good point to not hit a cap any time soon. That sounds amazing (that's my kind of preference). For me, it's a bit different. As someone who plays very regularly and since the beginning, I get to explore only chunks at a time as it releases. And as a result sometimes areas are completely cleared, or near clear, before the next chunk releases. Not only that, but when cleaning up regions, again, my need to backtrack diminishes greatly. I mean, there's just no reason for me to go running through the mountains of Liyue. Events take me back, but that's by virtue of the events. It's nothing like if I just had an active decision like "Hmm, maybe I'll go explore Liyue today" or "Time to go see what I can find in Mondstadt." I wish you well in your gaming. I'm not sure if you enjoy being so far behind, but I personally almost envy you, I kind of wish I'd started late. This world must feel completely different for those such as yourself.
@@fullrain8830 No, don't mistake anything I'm saying, and I don't want anyone to misinterpret it or put words in my mouth. I'm not saying Hoyoverse _should_ do more, they do plenty fine - I'm just saying that for many of us, what's provided doesn't sustain itself. This isn't some "Hoyoverse is slow with their updates" comment. They've consistently released updates every month and a half, except for the entire Ayaka debacle, but that's excused. But even so that doesn't mean that what we have always sustains itself until the next update. It's not a blame thing, but it still just is what it is. Strictly answering Vars's question of "is there too much exploration" my personal answer would have to be "no, and perhaps, maybe not enough." That's not some attack on Hoyoverse though. It's not enough for me personally, for others, it might be fine. Which is why I play a multitude of other games too - heavy Smash player, League player, among other games. In short, I wish there was more to explore, sure, but I don't hate Hoyo or want them to work themselves to death because there isn't more. I'd LIKE to have their cake all day long, but just cause they don't have enough cake for me to eat all day doesn't mean I hate them for it. I just savor the cake when it's there, then I just go get my snacks elsewhere until they have more cake ready. But I'm still gonna say I wish I had more cake _now_ lol
I find something very interesting in this case, being a vetaran or a new comer comes with their apposing pros and cons,if you're a new comer in for example 2025 or 2027,you have a fuck tone to explore,a tone of quests to do,generally more and better content, but imagine getting like dainsleif at that point as like an ar20 player, you have to go through god knows how much just to get to the area and and the boss to actually raise the character, certain areas are locked of by quests and archon quests, some are very far from the starting point, etc But when you've been playing this game for like 5 years you have kept up with everything, you have better knowledge of the game and generally an easier time to level up a new character when one comes out,but at the same time you're trapped in a constant loop of a little freedom in area exploration,it's over, back to the old resin, event ,dailies, log out routine,i feel like open world games work better when they're complete and you have the freedom of travel like the genre intended you to do
The problem here is the fomo rather than the missing out itself. Your account isn't screwed if you take your time, and we need to move away from this mindset, because *thats* what causes people to not enjoy the game.
I would say that exploration is amazing here, i just would like to be motivated more to explore (To me it feels repetitive to get always the same chests). What i mean is that it would be cool to get some special sword, or item, or a secret boss while exploring some secret zone maybe. Enkanomiya was close to this design and it was amazing. PS. commented before watched
This tbf. I would love to get something memorable to collect even if it doesn't serve any purpose in the gameplay aspect. Like the dark iron sword. Or that skyrider greatsword you find on some rock.
I literally explore for the trees (Sumeru and inazuma) They give you tons of wishes from both of the banners( Standard and character banner)Thats literally my motivation
Same! Like it is sometimes disappointing when you finally solve a puzzle that you have been racking your brain on and all you get is just mora, mats and primos. It would be more memorable if there are some weapons, recipes or items that can only be obtained from certain places or puzzles
Some people have to accept Genshin IS an exploration game, and not just an open-world RPG. So yeah, in an exploration game you are "forced" to explore, just like in a racing game you are "forced" to race. The question is, why would someone pick up a racing game if they don't enjoy racing in the first place?
The issue, to me, is not the amount or necessity of exploration, it's the gating. Either behind story, massive world quests (looking at you Aranyaka,) or non-intuitive puzzles. If I could just run, jump, climb, etc. around the map to explore that'd be very fun and chill, but the other stuff just gets in the way and should be its own thing, maybe giving weapons (like getting the Catch from fishing) or nice piles of other resources. Just my $0.02.
Bruh I came here for literally unlimited exploration not the story, not, the game, not the combat. I love that if I can see something I can go there I can keep running towards the ends of the earth here
@@donny_xavery yes, but it does not show us how many chests are still in the area. Or mayne there is chests around, but yo´re a little far for the compass to point them, besides being marked as 100%. A indication that there are 2 or 4 more chests in the area wold be great! Or, at least, the percetage meter being accurate would help
I wish there was a tier system of chests, like once you get EVERY CHEST in an area, a new wave pops up, and maybe every few patches they add them so we always have chest and stuff to do. For me personally I love the open world exploration
Honestly, my problem with exploring new regions is the lack of proper reward. I’m extremely goal/reward-driven when it comes to games and I feel like Genshin conditioned us to expect chests and rewards with Mondstadt and Liyue. With the new patches, the exploration content has been getting really challenging with only simple rewards like common or exquisite chests. It’s pretty inconsistent and the number of enemies you need to defeat for a common chest has gotten ridiculous. I think just creating more achievements and giving more exquisite chests would boost player morale with exploring because honestly I don’t really want to explore because I’ll get like 10 primos in like 30 minutes of exploring.
What you were saying is spending 30 minutes running around in a well explored area gives you 10 primo because if you got into new areas, those chest are EVERYWHERE. And not understating the problem with gamer who isn't up to the core gameplay of genshin but still trying to enjoy it, I'm glad you guys sticking to the game, but the game is made to cater people who want to read more lore and stories and to guess and to solve puzzles, to explore and 100% the area. It is sadly isn't made for gamer who min max their time to get the biggest baddest damage number or gain the most valuable mount (referring to WOW, GW2 and FFXIV which is considerably the biggest game). I tried to play guild wars 2 just today and I just can say, it's not for me. FFXIV is fun but I can't prioritize paying the subs than living my life, and thank God people are subscribing because the game is still running and getting even better every patch. Genshin though, free to play as long as you don't get FOMO by the gacha.
@@DumbestDumbFool the point is if you count the total time you need to fully explore a region its still a lot. Because how long is the "new region" period you mentioned gonna last? I'm already at 30-40% of the sumeru map just by doing the main quest and pick up the chests that are directly placed in front of me. After that, well its pretty much grinding time, you really don't get easy chests out of it anymore. And the fact that the rewards are so little gives me even less incentives to try
The exploration is really only an issue for Sumeru, in my opinion. This is because half of Sumeru's locked behind world quests that you HAVE to complete in order to access it (Vanarana, Lost Nursery, Temple of King Deshret, Khaj-Nisut, Setekh Underground, Lost Oasis, Temple of Gurabad, etc.), otherwise the game yeets you out of the area. It's especially worrying because Kalpalata Lotuses, Scarabs, and Grease Pupas are more common in the locked areas than in Sumeru proper, and those are ascension mats. If the areas weren't hard-locked, it'd be better. Even still, if it were a full dungeon like the Chasm or Enkanomiya, unlocking it makes sense, because it gives you basically a WHOLE ASS REGION in return, so in my mind it's fair. Also: more proper dungeons, please. I loved exploring the Chasm and Setekh Underground because it felt like doing dungeons in a traditional MMO, there's exploration, routing, mob generation, bosses, proper loot, etc. Please, HoyoVerse, PLEASE MORE PROPER DUNGEONS!!! Hell, if some of them were repeatable domains for weapon ascension materials or recipe pieces for crafting gear (I'd imagine a weapon recipe that, instead of billets, uses actual crafting recipes like X Crystal Ore, Y Noctilucous Jade, Z Star-studded MalachiteTM, and A Insert Oreite Hereite.), that would be some of THE BEST content they'd make, and it would give some actual end-game content that they can tailor to not be Spiral Abyss but still be fun.
It's a design choice, you can't have every area play the same, you have to introduce variety and having a quest directly connected to exploration was is a great idea, ofc there are trade offs to this but like I said, you can't have every area play the same. It would become monotonous if that happened. It's just this guy's thoughts honestly, a lot of which I don't agree with but he is not wrong, not right either but that's the thing it's subjective. You can't really please everyone
For me, i love exploring but i'm just bored of the sumeru's desert area. All the previous areas looks vastly different to me, that's why i like exploring them! But for the desert area in sumeru, looking at sands and only occasionally going underground feels repetitive, so it's not my favorite place to explore :/ The area getting bigger and bigger feels so taxing
Oh ye, i recently started playing the game and i pulled 3!!! inazuma characters, not to mention 2 bait recipes require inazuma ingredients...by the time i unlocked inazuma those characters were kinda forgotten (bar sayo, i use her since i got her cos her critter passive). Right now i got to first major story wall and dont know how to get past it (diluc cant beat signora and im stuck what characters to lvl up cos its a big investment to experiment a few of them)
I started 5 months ago and yesterday I finally 100% the entire map with every quest & secret quest completed, except fishing & hang-outs. I want MORE exploration lol.
I've got 100% on the maps, yet I still find chests I missed in hidden corners way off the beaten path. I'm always surprised. Like how did I miss this bit of rock is really a chest covered in Geo?! Or this thorn bush is really a chest?! I even jumped/glidered off a cliff into Wolvendom (after having it 100% for months) and crashed into a chest just sitting on a high treebranch inside leafy coverage. 🤣
@@sylvarogre5469 Same, I'm 100% certain for Mondstat, Enkanomiya, Inazuma, The Chasm, and Dragonspine... but for Sumeru & Liyue, I bet there's some sneaky chests still out there somewhere. I spam Elemental Sight a lot so that helps.
I love exploration. Everything seems new and fresh. What bothers me are the Abyss, the Domains and Challenges. "Kill X mobs in Y seconds under Z nerfs" makes me feel bored, especially because of the Ascension grind train.
When I started out in 2.1 my first 5 star was Kokomi. I couldn't level her bc I hadn't unlocked Inazuma but my fear of missing out was always smaller than my fear of running out of content. I took my time with the game, played every day sometimes the whole day and unlocked Inazuma after about 4 months. I wanted to explore the first few islands first so it took me an additional 2 months so get to Watatsumi Island for the Sango Pearls. When I finally got Kokomi to level 90 it felt rewarding and I was proud of myself that I didn't gave in to the pressure. Exploration is the thing I enjoy most about the game. I love the fighting and my characters are more than decent if I might say so. But exploration was always my main focus (+ the quests)
The endless unskippable inane dialog that goes nowhere is a big part of why i dread even coming back for events... And why when i saw the 'Skip" button pop up in Tower of Fantasy, i felt this huge weight fall off, and just felt like, THANK YOU!!! I might be home..
I would say it depends on who you ask. If you're trying to speedrun the game then yeah, not a good idea. If you're trying to get everything to 100%, good luck trying to find those last few chests when you're 98% done. Personally, I love how big the world is and I don't mind it, same as I don't personally mind not having everything fully explored. When I have the time to sit down and run around, it's good to know there is a potential for me to actually still find something even after playing for 2 years. My only problem with exploration are underground areas like in the dessert, Hoyo please I get lost all the time-
List of unaccurate information in this video : - The game has 3000+ chests, not just around 1000. - The tsurumi island boss isn't locked by the island questline, it is specifically located out of the fog. - The seirai boss is only locked behind a short world quest, you don't have to do the inazuma archon quest to unlock it, you only need to get out of Ritou, which is pretty fast. - You can do every quests and all exploration in the game on your first day if you want. There is enough adventure exp in the game to get to AR45+ without any daily activity. The only thing that is time gated is character progression, which is only useful for the endgame system (spiral abyss). - Raiden isn't "usable" until you reach inazuma, this is completely false. I've seen plenty of new players use her without any issues. A lvl40 character can take on the whole game without any issue since weapon level and artifact level are more important than character level, especially early on. - Weekly boss talent resources aren't an issue, there are needed for talents over level 6, which are available from AR40, while the whole story is unlocked at AR35. And then again, it's only necessary for spiral abyss. - New players don't care about being locked out of event, they have already plenty of stuff to do and most of the time they don't even know the events exist. They already missed several years worth of event, so what's one more ? It's negligible.
I always make sure to take it slow and savor everything when a new area comes out. To me it's the only way to keep from burning out in between major patches. I still haven't finished the latest archon quest, Aranara stuff or Golden Slumber for instance. It really does annoy me when events or new characters' materials are locked behind these but I think it's better than binging a new area for two days and then being stuck with nothing to do for months.
I was following along quite nicely until the end parts and I don't really get some of the points you were trying to make Vars? What is ultimately the difference between a quest in Genshin saying "hey, you need to go to Sumeru" and a quest in your mentioned game of Skyrim, saying "hey you need to go to Solitude" (when I'm still in Riverwood)? There's also plenty of dungeons and areas in Skyrim that are locked behind side-quests that you might not even know exist. I don't think there's as much of a difference between Genshin and something like Skyrim, as you might think. The only reason I can think of that it feels so "locked-off" right now is simply because the game and by extension the game-world are not finished yet. We still have Fontaine, Natlan, Snezhnaya and then maybe Khaenri'ah and Celestia to come out. Not to mention all the various sub-areas (last piece of Desert, Qiaoying Village, Dornman Port, etc). As you said, the only area that is fully locked-off to new players is Inazuma, but there's a story/lore reason for it. As other CC's have recently proven, you can make a new account and walk straight to Sumeru to grab Dendro Traveler, while not even having completed Mondstadt/Liyue story-lines yet. Also, the point about Raiden Shogun, I'm fairly sure that once you unlock Inazuma, you can go straight to that Island, do the Puzzle and be able to fight the Thunder Manifestation - it's just that when we did Inazuma, that island released alongside playable Shogun. The only issues right now, that I can agree on 100% are how Weekly Bosses are done and the way Crowns of Insight are released. MHY have started doing quick-start for events, so new/returning players aren't screwed, but they need to do something similar with Weekly Bosses (even if it does mean big spoilers) - or allow any weekly boss mat to be transmuted with the Dream Solvent, just make it more expensive if transmuting between bosses.
i just don’t like how sumeru has so many dendroculus. I wish it was like mondstadt where you don’t need to get hundreds of anemoculus to max the statue.
For me, I am fine giving every area a once over. But then it becomes tedious. You do it and are left with 80-90% progression, and it's so much extra effort to 100% complete for the rewards that you get. I am feeling the pain though of having up-to-date characters sitting at lvl 20 or 40 in my inventory because I don't want to skip/rush and ruin the game for myself. A potential fix I see is having the ability to swap old materials for new materials. But so that it's not abused by those who have a crap ton of older materials, once you unlock the ability to acquire yourself you can no longer craft. And obviously, the efficiency wouldn't be great, but it would be a good way to let 2 weeks players start using their Raiden somewhat, let alone say the Natlan and Shneznaya characters when those eventually drop.
Funny how you mentioned Raiden Shogun as she is my 1st 5-star I got when I started in September 2021. It took me a month before I could finally unlock everything to start farming for Raiden.
I totally agree, the Auto play story is a joke. I don't think it should be a requirement to do the nations in order either. The amount of dialog there is and un-skipable mountains of story gets specially tedious for people with more that one account, in events and overall too, be it for content or just because one gets seriously bored with no end game and makes another account to scratch a little fun. It's awful too not being able just to ditch Paimon and her obnoxious voice to let the real protagonist speak even if the dialog options are inconsequential, they should let the Traveler speak, plus that some new quests in Sumeru which are rather touching and well written are totally devoid of spoken dialog which makes it horrible to go through, in my experience. Plus having missed some parts of the story locks you up on the know of what happens between a lot of characters. For example I missed the Fischl quest at the very beginning of Genshin being released and I didn't know we supposedly already saw Scaramouche once there. When you encounter the dialog in the lines of "Ah we meet again" style but you don't know what's happening is something that nags you constantly, "What did I miss? Why did I miss it, I did all my quests, what's happening?" That and the events that are different always and if it has a good 4 star weapon you need and you miss it? The game doesn't bring it again next time nor gives you some way to obtain it or finish it's refinements which is complete bullocks. Personally I can't enjoy the game even with the fishing system that is horrible to me. It's supposed to be relaxing at least, but Paimon's constant speaking it's so aggravating one can't enjoy it. And in the last quests everyone addresses her and not you, whatever you say no one cares, which to me is just even worse. I'm not playing to be the sidekick of a rejected pokemon with a rude attitude and dumb as a brick. Seriously, they even doubled down on whatever importance they think she has in the game in the lamest Lantern Rite Festival ever. The worst part is that in the beginning her voice at least in english wans't too obnoxious, but they think screechy sounding, annoying flying diaper using child is something to be considered "cute", they way out of reality, specially not one every sentient person would like to remove entirely from dialog or put her in a trash can. Rant over. Peace everyone.
I just have one concern about exploration. Based on data we have collected so far, each time a new region is dropped the amount of oculi required to level up statue to max increases. You might think this is not that significant but boy, you don't know the struggle for Traveller mains out there just to get all the cons from the statue. Monstadt and Liyue is easy but Inazuma and Sumeru is the death of me. Imagine if Fontain has more oculi than Sumeru, that's literally my worst nightmare.
i pretty much gave up with the dendroculi. if i find one, cool, i'll pick it up. but i won't go out of my way to find all of them anymore. doesn't help that there isnt enough map markers for them anymore. I used to mark oculi that i see on the map but can't reach.
I'm gonna have to take a hard disagree on the idea that genshin should give players an option to skip all of the story and move straight to exploration. Hoyo wants to create the type of gameplay environment wherein players have a personal and emotional connection the world they're exploring, and they do that through the story quests. Asking them to abandon that for the convenience of impatient players is a little unfair. This is one of those situations where I'd say that if you don't like it, then this just isn't the game for you.
There's no such thing as "too much" exploration, if the exploration is actually fun The only reason why exploration seems to be "too much" is because the place or thing that you're exploring, isn't worth exploring
I’ve been playing for a little under a year and have only made it to Inzazuma (sp?) because Im constantly getting distracted by exploring and completing puzzles, getting every chest in an area, and random side quests. For a “mobile” game I think they did an amazing job with the exploration.
So you bring up wanting to skip cutscenes, and I totally agree...but I think there's another problem with it, and it's the exact opposite. Unlike a vast majority of other Gachas, hell other RPGs in general, you CANNOT replay story segments and cutscenes. Sure, you can replay the dialogue, but you miss out on any of the animations, and even some of the important context. (And that's not getting into both the slightly fancy cutscenes and the REALLY fancy cutscenes) For a game that's so story focused, yet that also encourages speeding through as quickly as possible, and that can also go months without main story updates, it's so silly that your only real method of "replaying the story" is UA-cam videos. Sure, you could start from the beginning on a fresh account/region...but then you'd lose access to all your characters and all your resources, which can be crippling for your enjoyment. (And now it's a second EVERYTHING for you to keep track of)
Same old point, but it doesn't hold up, because new player can literally speedrun the game to ar 30 in 2 days! And btw it's very unlikely that you get an early 5star (excluding rerol which is done by veteran players anyway). So by the time people get their first 5 star it's already usually a month gone which is more than enough to open all regions, ur point doesn't hold up
Yeah new players won't even have enough primos to get a 5 star and by the time they have enough the story from mondstat to inazuma should be complete. I start a new account during kazuhas rerun and I didn't get him until I finished inazuma story and it was at 54 pity so I got lucky
Pre-watch comment: For me genshin exploration is like an above average dish that just got stale through time. It’s not bad, it’s actually pretty good. But with all that they did recently with unnecessary massive world quests and confusing underground system makes me feel like it’s much more important for hoyoverse to make exploration longer rather then enjoyable. Another issue I notice is the existence of an interactive map. I deadass have a friend that pulls up that map before exploring any new region, which transforms the game into a to-do list. I’m not saying it’s not enjoyable, i just don’t think that’s what an open world game should be. For me exploration in genshin is ok. Not bad, but not excellent either; serviceable, but not fun. The art design is fantastic, the world is absolutely beautiful, but the gameplay of exploring is disappointingly shallow. Ps: maybe the main problem is the live service aspect. It’s really hard to get immersed into a world that you can explore only once in 1-2 patches
I don’t mind the exploration, gives me something to do once I finish up all the quests, and ensures for new players that there’s always a means to get more primogems before they start spending money. Personally, I really wish hoyoverse just respected players time more with the quests they gave us to do. The dialogue based stuff from dailies is already bad enough on its own, but it just takes longer since we can neither skip over dialogue from a quest we’ve done before, nor can we just get text that moves fast enough for us to button mash through
Pre-watched comment: No endgame is a valid criticism, but too much exploration? Exploration is the heart and soul of Genshin Impact. You're turning Genshin into something it doesn't meant to be. If you think there's too much to explore, you better off play something else, like Honkai and whatnot.
Exploration isn't a hindrance to limited events, limited events are the hindrance to exploration. Genshin was marketed as an exploration game, and exploration is the most enjoyable thing it has to offer. Most of the events I do solely for the limited rewards, in the same ways as dailies.
If you rush to 100% area, then sure it is really taxing and time consuming endeavor. If you're taking things slowly on the other hand, exploration in genshin is one of the best things this game has to offer.
I don't mind the exploration, what I do mind is the lack of map pins for marking certain locations for collecting materials and I wish the world quest is dubbed since reading long dialog tends to get boring.
Oath. I've finished the new desert world quest and man I wish they would have given the jinni a voice at least. She was character and was interesting but reading all of the story on a black screen felt shallow (?) somehow. Maybe I'm just being lazy but if I wanted to read a book I wouldn't be playing a video game. I know hoyo is cutting corners because they have to have a regular update schedule, paying money to VAs can be expensive plus the number of languages its dubbed in... But that is beside the point hoyo is a big rich company they just don't want to pay ppl extra.
From what I'm getting, you're playing for the rewards and your "progression" instead of the actual game. With that mindset, of course you'll hate any actual content. Content becomes a barrier to progression, instead of being, well, the part you're looking forward to (with the "rewards" simply being nice bonuses). Most of your issues come down to your mindset.
While asking for skipping dialogues, lets also ask to skip combat. An auto-combat for overworld and auto-clear for domains and abyss 8-12. Not everyone enjoys and have time for the combat so it would be fun if we can just skip it like how we can skip dialogues and cutscenes. No one is gonna force anyone to use the auto-combat or auto-clear so it shouldn't be an issue to anyone. Edit: We should also have an auto-explore feature where the character just goes to the nearest chest or puzzle and clear it. Then have auto-play feature where you can toggle all of this one. It'll use the skip function when dialogues appear, the auto-explore function when the quests are done, the auto-combat function when an enemy is encountered, and an auto-clear function when the resin is full or the abyss reset. Nobody has the time or interest to play the game so let's just skip it all.
Genshin is such a unique game that players with vastly different gaming backgrounds want it to be something that is more traditional, something more akin to what they are used to: Gacha players want some uninteractive experience; with menus and big pp numbers being all that matters Open world players don't want linear progression (even if that's what 90% of open world games do but that's another discussion) Action rpg players want some other stuff and so on... It really does seem like Genshin Impact attracts the more vulnerable gamers from these corners, the ones with more addictive personalities: be it collectors, completionists, meta slaves, min maxers, whales, etc. The topic at hand it's just crazy. The open world exploration gacha game has too much exploration? What's next, the game has too many waifus and husbandos?
It's interesting that you made the topic of the video "does Genshin have too much exploration?" and made the the core part of your argument about story gating, unskippable cutscenes and too much dialogue. I think the best part of the game is easily the exploration and if you're not here for that then I'm not sure why you're playing Genshin Impact haha. I do agree that the new player experience is pretty painful and I even hate being forced to explore a new zone when a new character comes out and I need to ascend them or their weapon and their materials are all brand new content but it's a small price to pay for such a rich and dense amount of cotent.
Tbh the last part of this video coming from a player who does keep up with the story quests and exploration just sounds like you don't enjoy what genshin is anymore. I can't blame you for that opinion but at the end here it feels like you just don't want to quit the game because you spent money on it and feel the inability to let go. If don't like the way that events are tied into story and how they go out of there way to make certain content very related to the world around it. Then you are probably the kind of player that would enjoy something less time consuming and laid back. Not to say that is a bad thing. But I appreciate how much work Hoyo puts in this game. This is a gatcha game that actually puts in the work, it wouldn't make sense to constantly have events in the game if they had 0 relation to the story simply because we are a character in this story with a goal in mind for where we are headed. This whole game is centered around Lumine or Aether's story to finding there sibling and helping Teyvat. Making friends along the way, making ourselves stronger, uncovering mysteries, and occasionally taking off time for ourselves which I appreciate since even in a fantasy world having a light hearted cooking event or soon to be beetle battling competition occasionally is nice for some character development and chill relaxation over other more intense situations. Genshin puts out content every 2 weeks at most and a new update every month and a half! How crazy is that?! Imagine if any other open world game had that much content thrown into it. Yes it is a lot again I won't judge anyone for disliking it or not having time for it. As it stands I always tell hoyo in the surveys that I would never recommend this game to others despite my whale status and love for this game. But honestly if this isn't your style I get it. But I highly appreciate the constant effort I see in everything happening for this game damn near every week I log in.
I love all the exploration. I go out of my way to get 100% in every area, fully level all the statues and trees, complete all the big/important puzzles and side quests, etc. Unfortunately I find myself exploring too efficiently since I've been playing so long, which means I end up getting through exploration too quickly.
I think the exploration is fine, but it’s extremely obvious with the desert, there is too much you have to do first, before exploring. You need all these gadgets and all these quests to do anything. And I can’t enjoy the desert because of this :< This also happened with the chasm explorer quest, and the aranara quest. I like them individually as story, but I hate that I have to do them to explore.
Something I didn't know about until recently is that you can join co-op matches against weekly bosses you've yet to unlock in your world. You are still restricted by World Level and Adventure Rank however. So, this is really only beneficial for returning players. If we want to go more into the subject of co-op in Genshin, it could use some more loose restrictions and definitely improvements. > Ping everyone to your location or a point of interest (chest, oculus, enemy, locked teleport waypoint etc.), albeit with some cooldown to prevent spamming. > Color-Coded player map markers. > Show Elemental Burst icon to everyone if your active character's Burst is ready. > Make Andrius' battle arena function more like a Trounce Domain. Through its greatsword, you can search for co-op matches. > When someone requests to join your world, display their AR and WL in the notification box.
I think they should add boss abyss and some kind of store for mats where the currency would be “activity” or where you can exchange mats 1 to 1. Even if for the duration of the rerun I’d be great
I LOVE the exploration in this game. It's for sure my favorite type of content in it and a huge reason why i continued playing for the last 2 years. That being said, Genshins exploration has some really major flaws i don't see people talking about that often, and to be honest, and they're the reason why some may think it has "too much" exploration. One of bigger ones being the FLOW of exploration in Genshin. The maps itself are amazing, the landscapes beautifull, and it wrecks older Open-World like BotW in that aspect, no question, but the exploration itself can feel way less exciting, and for some, even boring. Thats cause Genshin exploration has 4 main colectables: Chests, Oculi, Waypoints (and domains), and Statues of the seven. Chests feel.... fine to collect, but because of the gacha system only. In the exploration aspects, it gets you NO REWARD. You won't use any sword on it, the AR EXP only helps to get more wishes, and any other item are USELESS in late-game. It doesn't feed into your exploration in any way. Oculi are probably the best collectables in Genshin, and were specially good back when they actually rewarded you with stamina, you get them and it feeds it back into more time running/climbing. Since then, it's.... Fine.... But it removed a kit of what was special about them. TP/Domains are a little bit more usefull, since you will be able to come back there later. Feels specially good when it's anctual good area you will need to come back. Since most of them you rarely use. Statues of the Seven are glorified Waypoints, the map is usefull but sometimes ruin exploration, there is no challenge to get them so they don't feel rewarding, and they don't help all that much after activating it, since you almost never need to dumb Oculi that frequently. In comparison, all of BotW system feed back into one another. Chests help you explore, you NEED these weapons because of durability, the same goes for Koroks. Domains not only serve as teleport points, but a little challenge to break up your exploration, you can rest a bit and try another type of content keeping the experience fresh, and in the end, you always gain more stamina or life, which are both important. Towers are actually HIGH UP IN THE AIR. They serve a purpose to let you look far and see points of interest, even after unlocking the map. And the map feels rewarding because you had a small challenge to get there. Every single system feeds back into more exploration and makes the content contantly change slightly, so the second hour of exploring doesn't feel the same as the first. In the end, the exploration of Genshin feels DENSE. New regions really want you to do the quests before exploring so you have everything unlocked and it puts you in a awkward position, where if you try to mix a bit of exploring/quests to keep the experience fresh, you're punished by barriers and doors. The game wants to do the quest firsts, then go chest after chest after chest, exploring for hours on end just to get items you will need on OTHER PARTS of the game. Theres no durability and no insentive to change characters. So it can quickly get stale and if you dont really love exploring, it will feel like "too much".
Almost all content creators miss the fact that you get ascension material from testing the character, mean you can ascend once, which is enough for the first week of the game.
Hmmm, there are a few of missed assessments in this video: 1. Genshin's story for the most part is NOT open world, it's a linear string of quests with little to no bearing on open world exploration beyond "go to this place" 2. The part of "open world exploration" that is mandatory is the gathering of materials for characters That said, I feel that the biggest issue for Genshin's open worldness is that most of it doesn't really feel that rewarding Sure, I can gather materials to level my characters, their weapons or their talents, but I HAVE to do that and it's not like there's any chance at all to find a resource I would otherwise have to spend resin or primos on like a 4 star weapon or domain materials I do agree that Genshin's story commits the sin of being both too verbose and, worse yet, being mostly told by non important NPCs as opposed to the interesting playable characters
For me, I can definitely answer with NO! I wish we had even more exploration. I started playing last year in May and only two weeks ago, I finally got 100% in all the regions of Mondstadt (minus Dragonspine). Granted, I'm somebody who only plays this game an hour or two a day (don't have more time!), but I still want more exploration, puzzles, interesting quests (like the one to unlock Tsurumi island in Inazuma, the "Golden Slumber" quest from Sumeru). Exploring is really my most favourite thing to do in Genshin and I think without it, I would have stopped playing after a few weeks.
"Most of it(dialogue) is just banter between characters anyway" Yes, and they are, for the most part, written wonderfully. I'm a Slice of Life enjoyer, and honestly, my experience with Genshin's story has been amazing. (Aside from many parts of Inazuma, and the Shenhe Archon Quest, that was a bit of a letdown.) Edit: Oh no, are you the TenTen type, with almost every single Story and World quest since the start of the game not being done?
Yeah except the Sakura cleansing and tsurumi and the watatsumi one that you should do to unlock enkanomiya everything was kinda meh in Inazuma. Hey just wanted to mention there is a excellent quest in narukami literally felt like a anime it is surrounding the fortune slip literally one of the most memorable quests for me.
Its a bunch of anime architypes smooshed together. I can kill my time with it sometimes when I'm in the mood but when the dialogues burn out my patience its the most basic and effortless story writing ever, at least for most of the world and story quests
@@HoaNguyen-bu6zf you pretty much encapsulated my thoughts on it. I'm sure that for certain people, the dialogue and writing in general is fine and engaging, but it isn't for me, at all. It's boring, repetitive, predictable, annoying, and worst of all, *slow*. It's everything I hate in anime. There's some things I do enjoy about it sometimes, but they're rare and more often than not the game ends up ruining it all It's dialogue after dialogue of listening to the characters (primarily Paimon) reiterate what has already been said/something you already figured out. Skipping it also sucks, since the game requires special animations to play out before playing the next one, so even if you skip it it's still slow as hell.
Tbf, Inazuma is canonically locked before the story because it’s literally a locked in country refusing any new entries, it’s also blocked by a storm. Sumeru isn’t locked off that same way since it’s not actually hostile to outsiders in the same way
Genshin is ultimately a casual game and is very much designed as such Like it's really a small minority of the total player base who is actually caring about things like resin cap
This is the real issue that I'm seeing. Don't get me wrong, there's some valid criticism of the game. But I'm noticing that most of the comments in these videos are actually whales that speedrun every new area and event. Most of the player base (myself included) is working all week and uses Genshin as a casual time waster (esp. important to keep in mind for workaholic societies like Japan where these games are super popular for this very reason).
I love exploring. It's my FAVOURITE and main draw behind playing Genshin Impact! But aside from the interesting locales, a lot of it falls into a cycle of repetitive tasks that I've done before in previous regions. Which is fine for awhile, and the difficulty is being raised (looking at you puzzles), but now it even discourages me from exploring Sumeru because I know what to expect. Doesn't help that the rewards feel so paltry despite the effort required to get them. To add further salt to the wound, if you decide to put down the game, a new region releases, and a new character gets released... Well, you'll have to explore the new area to unlock the boss mats for that specific character. This also includes events. If you are not keeping up, you can suddenly feel forced into speed running in order to play the latest event content. However, nothing of what I mention compares to my greatest fear... Getting sick of the region due to daily commissions. It still baffles me how we have no mounts or rides to reduce travel, or a direct teleportation to the commission's location. If I want to speed it up, I either have to rely on a specific character's movement ability, or bunny hop my way there. Seriously, this game would be so much better if we can unlock a sweeping function after completing x-amount of commissions. I don't want to fall out of love for these regions thanks to these chores. Anyone else feel similar?
You keep saying "behind"... you cant be put "behind" because there is no competitive elements to the game... what are you behind in?? So being behind is all in your mind... I dont know what kinda game you think this is tho... "being forced to play through it (the story) for end game rewards"... Its an open world gatcha RPG, what kinda RPG have you ever played that you didnt play through a story?? No story and this would be a single player gatcha sandbox... The story is the game, the gatcha is how they make their money... Its not just an open world game, its an open world RPG... you want an open world sandbox... Its never claimed to be a sandbox, so you must play through the story... you want the ability to skip the story, they put a lot of effort into the story and hit home runs every time... they aint letting you skip just so you can rush to a point of no content... then you will complain aint nothing to do, well you rushed through all the game
It's really interesting seeing that the majority of the comments are from people that really enjoy the exploration aspect. I also really like exploring, but being completly honest, I think It takes too much time for me. Most people don't seem to have a problem with it, but I really don't have too much time to play. I also play Honkai (Usually More than Genshin) and I want to play other games too, so my free time is only enough to do the esentials. Most of time I only explore at the beggining of a major version or when I need to for an event (With the character quests being the most tedious, because I read everything no matter what), and this has been the most clear in Sumeru, which is at less than 20% exploration. But again, that's just my opinion.
Your opinion is valid! I feel the same way, I haven't gotten all Crimson Agates for 2 years but recently I got them all. But Dragonspine is still not 100% exploration, same with Liyue, Chasm, Enkanomiya, etc. Almost all are 90+% or 80+% or something lol. So yeah
I would say no but I am the guy who 100 percented botw and skyrim
Same. Haven't seen the video yet but my first answer is no. I love exploring every new area they update. Maybe I don't come back to some places like Enkanomiya but I always have a good time exploring
I never 100% anything I only play the parts of the game I enjoy and needless to say that often times isnt 100% of the game
Genshin has too much talking in the story I keep pressing x on my controller but they just won’t stop….
Same, and I'm well on my way to 100% Genshin too
It's true though, it's fine.
I'm looking at you aranaka
Omg. King Deshret's mausoleums in a nutshell
Pre-watch comment:
To Genshin's credit, exploration is really the only form of content you have.
Sometimes i realy wonder why some whales are even playing the game when they.seemingly dislike everything the game is actually trying to be.
They could make more battle content outside of Exploration like dungeons
take into account that the open world stuff is what causes the game to be contentless, Genshin often or not has 4 to 8 months of dead week because creating a brand new open world too explore takes way too long, it doesn't help that a majority of the new Gacha characters comes from regions already completed in the story.
which means, they get no action or part to play in the upcoming new region plot which is disappointing unless they we're non playable
@@sakutaro3musik486 repeatable exploration dungeons with increasing difficulty and rewards would be great!
As AR 60 player who always prioritized exploring the game world over anything else and fell so far behind in Genshin's main story he barely finished Inazuma by the time Nahida's banner was out, Genshin had to go.
@@Silent_Depths you don't need to level up "the huge onion"...it doesn't lock anything expect some resources

I wish the interactive map marked off things on its own so when you feel accomplished with ur exploration progress and don’t want to wonder around aimlessly you can check the map then

Woooo! Another true adventurer! I also love exploration 💕
yes same!
I only really don't have Liyue fully maxed because it's actually my least favourite region to explore. And well, new desert area because I have 2 accounts and explored it on one but not yet on the other.
I too like to go around and enjoy the views.
I never went back to Underground Chasm and Enkanomiya after exploring them. Lol
Well, events usually bring us back to places we've been to. So it's a situation where we would be brought back to an old place we've been to every 2 weeks, unless the event is for a new area, of course.
this, there are so many cool areas in the game, feels like a waste that it just sits there when you're done exploring it...
They need a gadget that let you use all of the elements for puzzles
OMG YES the amount of times im switching parties non stop to 1. Get the funghi drop i want 2. Then do a puzzle that needs pyro / electro etc.
That's good, as someone who only plays for 6 to 6 months, is better for me to have my o. Pace

Yep and you get paid every month with an average of 60 wishes per patch
True that

I've been playing since day 1 and love the open world, it's what keeps me coming back. They just need to provide better rewards for it. More world and side quests should give collectible momentos, unique weapons, pets, teapot items etc. Stuff that uniquely rewards you for doing the exploration content like the Dragonspine claymore.
Just add old event weapons as reward for completing certain area to 100% and then remaining areas should give its refinements of same region.
I think you put forward very valid points but hear me out
I'm a day 1 Genshin player + Honkai Impact Red Lotus (highest possible abyss bracket) player .

Wow, same thing

The carrot of getting new weapons that break after fighting a few enemies? Lol

I have so much fun exploring for days when the new area gets released but then when it's over it's back to commisions + resin - end for today. At this point I wish I started to play in like 2025 when most content is released and I could have more exploration to do.
How do u people 100% an area? I can't find many chests even using compass. Only exploration vids on yt helps but following that isn't fun.

@@1manshow10 They use the interactive map and walkthroughs just to complain later that the content ends too quickly.
The quests give you a clear direction (Unlike Botw where you get one random quest that has to be done at a different spot in the world with no hints what so ever to get this quest done.)
And when you get into Genshin, you can decide if you want to go on with the story or with exploring or levelling up your character.
I have two main thoughts here:
- Story/event dialogue needs a major overhaul.
This is my BIGGEST gripe with the game.
And that's why I dont watch the new version streams anymore, too many spoilers.
You summed up exactly how I feel about the whole experience. Bravo~
I honestly think this isn't a problem unless we are talking about Liyue & Sumeru
Those two areas are just too damn big, it takes forever to find everything without an video guide
Only reason my new desert is at 4% is because I'm afraid of actually completing it and minimizing my content.
the thing is i don't think it's even possible to do more than they already doing. a 6 week update cycle is literally unheard of in any other game. especially one that contains as much content as genshin
unless you want the devs to just work themselves to death
It's nothing like if I just had an active decision like "Hmm, maybe I'll go explore Liyue today" or "Time to go see what I can find in Mondstadt."
I wish you well in your gaming.
I find something very interesting in this case, being a vetaran or a new comer comes with their apposing pros and cons,if you're a new comer in for example 2025 or 2027,you have a fuck tone to explore,a tone of quests to do,generally more and better content, but imagine getting like dainsleif at that point as like an ar20 player, you have to go through god knows how much just to get to the area and and the boss to actually raise the character, certain areas are locked of by quests and archon quests, some are very far from the starting point, etc
But when you've been playing this game for like 5 years you have kept up with everything, you have better knowledge of the game and generally an easier time to level up a new character when one comes out,but at the same time you're trapped in a constant loop of a little freedom in area exploration,it's over, back to the old resin, event ,dailies, log out routine,i feel like open world games work better when they're complete and you have the freedom of travel like the genre intended you to do
@@PsQueak2 What Ayaka debacle?
I literally explore for the trees (Sumeru and inazuma) They give you tons of wishes from both of the banners( Standard and character banner)Thats literally my motivation
this remembers me of the Kazari quest, oh boy I still won't take that shit catalyst, that mask will stay like that
You can actually take the waverider to the wolflord without the quest lmao
The issue, to me, is not the amount or necessity of exploration, it's the gating. Either behind story, massive world quests (looking at you Aranyaka,) or non-intuitive puzzles. If I could just run, jump, climb, etc. around the map to explore that'd be very fun and chill, but the other stuff just gets in the way and should be its own thing, maybe giving weapons (like getting the Catch from fishing) or nice piles of other resources. Just my $0.02.
Bruh I came here for literally unlimited exploration not the story, not, the game, not the combat. I love that if I can see something I can go there I can keep running towards the ends of the earth here
They should evenly place the number of chests on each location every update, that way players have a reason to visit old locations.

yeah, remind me of Enkanomiya event. they show all chest after you reach certain level unlike the second Golden Apple Archipelago
@@DumbestDumbFool You are indeed a dumb fool
@@DumbestDumbFool the point is if you count the total time you need to fully explore a region its still a lot. Because how long is the "new region" period you mentioned gonna last? I'm already at 30-40% of the sumeru map just by doing the main quest and pick up the chests that are directly placed in front of me. After that, well its pretty much grinding time, you really don't get easy chests out of it anymore. And the fact that the rewards are so little gives me even less incentives to try
My reward is looking at nice views, while listening to podcasts and other stuff and farming.
@@EllaNonimato and quickly burn through your battery in like 30 minutes. No thanks i would rather touch grass
Honestly to keep story progression coherent I can’t see a much better way than locking up parts of the map
They already do that with paimon and keeping most of the primo rewards with the fomo events so you HAVE to do the quests.

List of unaccurate information in this video :
- The game has 3000+ chests, not just around 1000.
Fast Travel Exists
i just don’t like how sumeru has so many dendroculus.
Clarification: Golden Wolflord is not locked by a quest. Bathysmal Vishaps are though.
I used to mark oculi that i see on the map but can't reach.
no, I actually wanted every single region to be at least twice as big. give me more exploration and world quests please
There's no such thing as "too much" exploration, if the exploration is actually fun
The only reason why exploration seems to be "too much" is because the place or thing that you're exploring, isn't worth exploring
Pre-watch comment:
For me genshin exploration is like an above average dish that just got stale through time.
The dialogue based stuff from dailies is already bad enough on its own, but it just takes longer since we can neither skip over dialogue from a quest we’ve done before, nor can we just get text that moves fast enough for us to button mash through
Pre-watched comment:
No endgame is a valid criticism, but too much exploration? Exploration is the heart and soul of Genshin Impact. You're turning Genshin into something it doesn't meant to be. If you think there's too much to explore, you better off play something else, like Honkai and whatnot.
Exploration isn't a hindrance to limited events, limited events are the hindrance to exploration.
Genshin was marketed as an exploration game, and exploration is the most enjoyable thing it has to offer. Most of the events I do solely for the limited rewards, in the same ways as dailies.
As the map gets bigger, at least allow us some transportation options
That's one thing Tower of Fantasy got right for such a big map
Genshin is such a unique game that players with vastly different gaming backgrounds want it to be something that is more traditional, something more akin to what they are used to:
Gacha players want some uninteractive experience; with menus and big pp numbers being all that matters
Open world players don't want linear progression (even if that's what 90% of open world games do but that's another discussion)
Action rpg players want some other stuff and so on...
Too much exploration is exactly why I fell for Genshin Impact. Because there never can be too much exploration.
Unfortunately I find myself exploring too efficiently since I've been playing so long, which means I end up getting through exploration too quickly.
same exactly
I think the exploration is fine, but it’s extremely obvious with the desert, there is too much you have to do first, before exploring. You need all these gadgets and all these quests to do anything. And I can’t enjoy the desert because of this :<
This also happened with the chasm explorer quest, and the aranara quest. I like them individually as story, but I hate that I have to do them to explore.
too much? WE DONT HAVE ENOUGH
Even if for the duration of the rerun I’d be great
2:44 in my account with 100% world exploration everywhere, i have opened a total of 4494 chests (139 remarkable)
I think I have much more of a stomach for the grind and fluff, but I don't mind there being more options available for people who don't.
Hmmm, there are a few of missed assessments in this video:
1. Genshin's story for the most part is NOT open world, it's a linear string of quests with little to no bearing on open world exploration beyond "go to this place"
2. The part of "open world exploration" that is mandatory is the gathering of materials for characters
That said, I feel that the biggest issue for Genshin's open worldness is that most of it doesn't really feel that rewarding
Sure, I can gather materials to level my characters, their weapons or their talents, but I HAVE to do that and it's not like there's any chance at all to find a resource I would otherwise have to spend resin or primos on like a 4 star weapon or domain materials
I do agree that Genshin's story commits the sin of being both too verbose and, worse yet, being mostly told by non important NPCs as opposed to the interesting playable characters
You make great points! Grinding for artifacts can be tiring indeed, especially whenever Def ones arrive lol.
The game is not competitive and no need to rush. I’m glad you can’t skip cut scenes cuz the story is fun and part of the game.
"Most of it(dialogue) is just banter between characters anyway"
Yes, and they are, for the most part, written wonderfully.
I'm a Slice of Life enjoyer, and honestly, my experience with Genshin's story has been amazing. (Aside from many parts of Inazuma, and the Shenhe Archon Quest, that was a bit of a letdown.)
Edit: Oh no, are you the TenTen type, with almost every single Story and World quest since the start of the game not being done?
There's some things I do enjoy about it sometimes, but they're rare and more often than not the game ends up ruining it all
It's dialogue after dialogue of listening to the characters (primarily Paimon) reiterate what has already been said/something you already figured out.
Skipping it also sucks, since the game requires special animations to play out before playing the next one, so even if you skip it it's still slow as hell.
Tbf, Inazuma is canonically locked before the story because it’s literally a locked in country refusing any new entries, it’s also blocked by a storm. Sumeru isn’t locked off that same way since it’s not actually hostile to outsiders in the same way
Genshin is ultimately a casual game and is very much designed as such
Like it's really a small minority of the total player base who is actually caring about things like resin cap
@@Xiosoranox Do you happen to be not "endgame", like
I love exploring.
I probably back if I no longer need stamina to dash outside of combat. Also mount
So yeah
