- Ottappayattu, a fight using the weapon otta or curved stick, is a higher variant of Kolthari that is very difficult to master. The student uses a specially chiselled, rounded and curved dagger-like wooden weapon called Otta.

what is the concept behind curved sticks? can anyone tell me?
These are similar to the shape of an elephant's tusk,may be in ancient times warriors used tusks to fight in case weapons are unavailable in a forest etc..(just guessing,not sure)
There is no history of fighting with OTTA. however its considered the most important weapon in Vadakkan sampradayam. 64 vital points are covered in the curved stick Adavus which number 18 whereas for all other weapons the max is only 12. The stick is but an extension of the hand. Though it looks more like a dance a closer look will reveal the finer nuances behind this weapon .
