My all time favorite band with the GOAT Mike Bordin and GOAT Mike Patton. Old FNM has some the best drum licks ever IMHO..ps I was wrong once…I thought I was wrong once haha!!!! I love your grin as you bash out glory brother God bless you and all the works of your hands!!!
Jesus christ, that high hat chick is down right mechanical. I dont know why but i was mesmerized by that in the verses hahaha. Awesome tone! Sick kit! FLAWLESS COVER
Are u normally right handed? BTW, I like the emotions on your face, I see u r really into it, reminds me of myself in my 20's. Saw FNM n 1993 at astrodome with Metallica & G&R.
Looks like a 75-76 set of Slingerland 3 ply in copper clad over maple and possibly rocking a massive 20" floor tom. A black/white bow tie Ludwig snare? If it is that is either samples or you got that thing dialed in like crazy.
Yup! I only bought half the kit and I took the bigger toms, so yes that’s a 20” canon. And no samples! I love the way this whole kit sounds so much I could never sample over it.
@@someroomtodrum Right on. I like the response of the toms and appreciate the fact you actually hit them. Great chops. I will check out some more of your videos and share this over in the Slingerland groups on FB.
Thank you, much appreciated! I’m still working out the mix with my kit. The floor tom distorts occasionally, though it’s nowhere near peaking. You can hear it on this song and a few others I did. Thanks for watching and sharing!
@@someroomtodrum I was playing it on my Mackie monitors and did not notice any real distortion. Getting a usable sound out of a 20” floor Tom with the rather small tip of a drumstick would be a challenge which is why there are not a lot of 20” floor toms out there. That snare is a Ludwig Black & White badge snare? If so that is a great sound. I have several snares including the Supra lm400 and 402, a couple Rogers dynasonics. Etc. The best snare I ever used was a Rogers 5x14 Holiday snare that caught fire when I tried using a heat gun to remove the wrap and it sounded great after.
I may have to mount the mic on a stand rather than clipping it to the rim on the 20”. It vibrates the mic a lot with a good hit. Obviously I like to play hard, so a big tom like that is perfect for me. I love that snare, it’s a steel outer shell with wood (probably maple) interior shell. I haven’t seen many like that but I also haven’t seen many period 😂
Very good and very close. However, I'm pretty sure that the drum stick 'clicks' are on the rack tom, not on the snare. (I produced, recorded, and mixed the album)
If that’s true and you’re the real Matt Wallace, then holy shit! Thanks man. Mike does play them on the rack, but I didn’t like the click tone I was getting from mine, so I moved them to the snare. This is one of my all time favorite albums.
@@someroomtodrum Yeah, it's me. Well, wherever you get your click tone from, you've done an excellent job with the song. Well done! I'm glad that you're a fan of AD, FNM, and Midlife Crisis. Keep doing what you're doing.
@@matthewwallace1374 wow, thanks Matt! I only wish my floor tom mic wasn’t distorting on this recording. I had to move it to a separate stand after this because it was vibrating too much on the rim clip.
Yes, I'm doing an eighth note pattern to keep time on the snare rim. That's the way Mike Bordin plays it live, except he's a lefty and he uses the rack tom rim.
@@someroomtodrum¹ he does that alot... for example everything's ruined and mark bowen. Actually the only drummer I've ever heard do that. You're the first drummer I've seen incorperate it.
Yup, he sure does. I had to be sure so I found a vid of him playing it this way on Leno in '92. Most people think he's playing that clicky sound on the album (I did, too), but it's a Simon and Garfunkel sample on the keyboard.

I'll never understand the current craze of heavy players using obvious jazz cymbals. You should be using a minimum of 20" crash as your smallest crash and not thin. Check out uan Paice, he has the right idea.

This is by far one of my favorite FNM songs! Great job, Mike Bordin would approve.

The gloves and tom angle adjustment are a nice tribute to Bordin.
