I had one of the first ones. I play MIDI guitar (Roland GK3 pickup on a standard guitar and so on) so I am familiar with having general issues with adjusting one's playing style or making changes in the software of the synth to get what I want from my playing and the resulting sounds. I had a horrible time with my YouRock Guitar. You guys make it look like it's easy to play and to control. I found that i didn't get any response unless I plucked the "strings" quite hard. And when I did, I got high velocity response from the synthesizer... vibrato or pitch envelopes that I didn't want. But if I played any softer, I got nothing at all. I understand that there are ways to adjust things - velocity curves, "touch" sensitivity... but I was unable to get mine to work well at all. I sold it to a fellow teacher. Hopefully he had better luck with his. I tried the GEN2 at my local Guitar Center (USA) and found the same thing. I am optimistically hopeful for the future of this product line though... interested in seeing and playing, perhaps one day OWNING the Lineage model sometime.
Why is it when i watch these videos, i start to watch them; put them on pause then go and make a coffee and return to viewing?
IVE BEE WAITING SO LONG FOR ONE OF THESE THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU
The ONLY reviews that matter
Andertons! the best
That overhead shot, past the Captain, really makes Rob look like a chubby little elf with the fore-shortening of his legs and those stupendous breeches. Pretty amusing.
Great vid. I love it when you guys demonstrate interesting / different products that we might not have heard of.
Rabea is such a lad. With such a sweet smile lol always makes the videos instantly better
Proof if it were needed that these guys really will sell you any old shit.
That Tetris was awsome .
Rob, the fact that you know the Nephilim just made you way cooler in my eyes
8:45 Allan Holdsworth says hi!
funny i was thinking the exact same thing
this opens up new ways to play and create music!!
04:45 it's like a tragic version of eruption, that just made my day hahaha!
That thing is seriously cool... I don't have any use for a keyboard synth... but i think i need one... Damn you!
it'd be a killer travel guitar as well
At first, I was like "This is going to be stupid", now... I NEED ONE!
4:08 i love how much fun Chapman was having... miss that funny side
Very handy guitar. I still use it and look forward for a successor someday.
Yes, the secret of staying beautiful as an elf, is to rest. People don't know this, they only think of it as a myth. :O
You have a good night, Silvija
it's great. interesting that Rob is such a great guitarist he was a bit thrown when faced with sounds normally associated only with a keyboard.
Dream Theater Solo's Incoming!
Finally i could play Jordan Rudess leads
That's... FANTASTIC! :'D
This looks pretty damn fun :D
Am now debating getting one of these over a midi keyboard
loving the 5150 guys! Jerry Cantrell recorded Sludge Factory (one of my fav alice songs) with a 5150 EVH gave him. He also got a EVH Sig. earnie ball guitar!
Dear Rob, make friends with EVH for he then shall bestow upon you much win!
I got mine from Andertons yesterday and the jury is out. It wouldn't be recognised on USB 3 in Win 7 64 bit, but when swapped to USB 2 socket, it worked fine. This is a common problem with USB 2 devices in USB 3, unfortunately.
Got it working with Guitar Pro 6.0, but sounded a little plinky plonky - but that's probably more my guitar playing ability :(
I liked the video, but sad to say that the coolest 'person' on the video was the dog :)
They are selling fast this week - one a day! Really!
dude, I totally want one now.
my thoughts exactly :P
reminds me the old gibson "toy" guitar
I've been waiting for a decent midi guitar to hit the market. I like the way this is designed, it has actual strings. I hate Misa's digital guitar designs. I think the midi pitch response could be a little more accurate. The thing I hate about typical midi note pitch response is the way it often falls off the horse during pitch bends, runs and arpeggios.
The implications here are huge, but we need improved pitch detection to really be expressive with our playing. Logarithmic pitch values just aren't accurate enough. Perhaps a frequency to pitch module would send more precise pitch information to the midi-note circuitry. Just a thought. Perhaps I should go to radio shack and bust out my soldering iron.
The sound at 9:15 sounds exactly the same from the movie STRANGE BREW.
good question
i dont think i would get it myself because i can already play keyboard but it still looks pretty fun
höhöhö.. i see what you did there!
These are like keyboards for guitarists, kind of cool actually. :D
You guys should do a demo of roland guitar synths.
Man that thing tracks better than my gat synth!
That one dread in the middle of your head makes you look like a teletubbie
7:06 I was like: OH, HOLY SHIT LINES IN THE SAND!!!!! but then i was like ):
I've been a Guitar Hero/Rock Band player since the beginning, now i "graduated" to Rocksmith and real guitar and bass.
This is interesting, sure, but i think only from the MIDI tracking/synth tool point of view. As a guitar it sounds wonky and as a controller i don't think it'd feel as it should :P
On another note, i'd love to see you guys review Rocksmith :)
Hi! I purchased a used You Rock Guitar this week. Cool instrument. But I have a problem. When I tried to download the panel control software for the guitar or the last firmware the brand web seems almost dead. I tried to register to download the software but the activation links dont work.
Any idea about where can I found the software for this instrument?
nice steinburg headstock
I have about three hours of Elves coming up soon ;-)
Oh, I don't know. The GK-3/VG-99 demos Alex Hutchings did were pretty convincing in terms of accuracy. Having used both a Stepp and a GK-3, I'd much rather use the GK-3.
i actually might pick up my midi and play it again now :)
Cool Toy!
That first synth sound would be perfect for stuff like Empty Spaces by Pink Floyd
What device are you plugging into for all the MIDI sounds?
If this had been available 40 years ago the power trio E.L.P would have been a power duo L.P...I also couldn't visualize Keith Emerson throwing daggers into it to hold the sustain....lol
fucking awesome!
It is very good , but theres problem on velocity sensitive.
No, not with the left hand... but you have a pretend sammy bar you can use...
so i can use this to control software on my computer such as a program that simulates orchestras and with this i can just play and the orchestra will play it back the same notes with out me notating them out.
whats that type of scratch plate called on the white chapman guitar in the back ground?
now i want one...
It reminded me keyboards from Ritchie's Rainbow :D
Lee looks exactly like one of the guys from ThePianoGuys
you can´t pull off to open strings, you can´t mute individual strings in chords, you have to mute it with a metal thinggy that you keep hitting by mistake.
9:37 TETRIS! :D
Elves Elves Elves !
I WANT. SO BAD. *Cries*
I wanna see Phil X, Keith and Ola review this
Can this interface with vsts like shreddage guitar? Also, will it work in sonar x3? Im curious if it requires its own modules to run the sounds or if it can interact with vsts i use in my cakewalk daw.
Hey Yetzirah Aeonion. When hooked up to your DAW via MIDI cable or USB, It simply sends MIDI signal to the computer. So yes. It does not need any module or software to run, and Sonar x3 will work. Anything a keyboard can play via MIDI, this can as well. I hope this helps!
Hello. Following the commercials I purchased the YRG2. I could not do anything accomplished as the "controller" was totally uncontrollable.
I sent the instrument to the shop to have it checked but nothing has changed ... used to be that with the internal sounds with VST external stairs in the execution of many notes are not played, the arpeggios are impossible to perform and are reproduced unwanted notes so confusing. In addition, the sensitivity of the touch of the notes on the keys has worsened considerably and do not appear ligatures nor the strisciatii, despite strenuous attempts to set the many preset commands and parameter editor.
I note that the video commercials show a sufficient playability of the guitar controller YRG2 used with the internal sounds and the same external VST advertised at my disposal; I therefore think that the controller on the market are not as reliable as those used in commercials and "peck" one equally usable is a lottery. In this spot shows a sufficient controllability with a traditional technique (which should be the norm as it is a guitar), the tool that you are using has been sent from home or you bought?
good music
Gianni
I honestly don't understand the logic behind this one...it seems like it's almost identical to the old Stepp MIDI guitars, which bombed badly. The only major differences seem to be that the Stepp had two sets of strings (one in the picking area, and one on the neck) and this has a built in sound bank. Surely a normal MIDI pickup would be a better option for just about anyone?
is there a delay when u play a note. or is it pretty close to an actual guitar
is there a left handed verson of this ?
Bro i can go ahead and tell you the dsl is way better i own one and love it, run a tube screamer in front of the overdrive channel and it sounds amazing!!
coo. still, id be fun to see rob test it.
you could totally cover rush's synth sections with this badboy. i want a RUSH COVER BAND NOW!!!! FUCK TETRIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WOOO
ЛАЙК ЗА РУССКУЮ МЕЛОДИЮ ..!!!....РАСПОЛНЫМ МОЯ КОРОБОЧКА!!!
7:04 = straight-up Sega Genesis sound.
Misa Kitara... could you guys get your hands on one and see how it plays :-)
Did you check out the Wallimann midi guitar plugin?
Can this be conencted to a harward based midi controller like roland gr 55?
ffs third time i have to update my flashplayer today.
Tetris theme \m/ metal as fuck
Do a techno aeromancy version with that.
what kind of les paul is in the back of cap. ??? the color? is it ice tea?
Depends what DSL we're talking about..
the JCM 2000 DSL dual lead is fucking awesome, but the new ones sounds like butt - so does the haze
I demand to know how it differs from the old you rock guitar?!
Then BRING ME A DRYING CLOTH AT ONCE!
Casio did something like this back in the 80s if I'm not mistaken
4:56 Oh, there goes your pick..
Hey Chappers when is the xmas livestream gonna be up?
you get a new string from the factory
hey rob PLEASE do a Marshall DSL vs HAZE. thumbs up if you agree! ;D
If you had hooked this up to a computer, and played a Kontakt library or SWAM brass or something, then the idea of this being a toy would have changed dramatically.
Attempt of reviving the SynthAxe?
thats what I was thinking
EVH 50W finally
At the end!!! Was it soundtrack from Tekken 3, playstation one game??? :D
Hard to see why it would be better to do what a keyboard does, on a guitar fretboard.
On the ohter hand, there appears to be 'analogue' output from the guitar jack which can be plugged into ordinary amp - a guitar that will be in perfect tune, never needing adjustment? But I imagine it will be a somewhat incomplete sound, ie no string bending if no strings to bend.
+Ynys Lochtyn Well, as a guitarist you'd be able to play parts you can only play on your guitar(because of comparably limited skills on the keyboard) with a piano sound, to be brute.
+Ynys Lochtyn ok the obvious use is to have fun. but also i can see a use if you need keys and you cant find a player.
edit: i thought of it after i wrote the comment. i can think of a friend that knows to play some guitar but he is more of a composer than a player(naturally good ear) that guy would appreciate such a machine. is it cheating yeah as much as playing keyboard and saying you are playing piano. same thing
I fucking want one!
Are there big diferences between Gen 2 and gen 1?
whats that "synth" that they plugged the guitar to ??????
You could probably do a lot of the new muse stuff on this hahaha
He played the Tetris song.
i wonder if they have a bass version
TETRIS!!!!
Can you demo the hard luck kings guitars?
