I appreciate multiple versions of good designs. Different strokes for different folks. This latest Meatcrafter seems the most practical for a kitchen/camping food prep knife. If the knife sells well, we’re going to see multiple versions of it. All the same, to me. I like the variety. I could do without another Dessert Warrior knife, but people like them.

As a meat cutter I would love to have this knife but at that price I’ll stick with my Victorinox knives. My 6 inch boning knife semi flex was like $25. If you take care of them like I do and I use them minimum of 40 hours per week they will last a lot of years.

I think that’s version number 4. There’s 15500, 15500-1, 15500-2, and 15500-3. The main point of this knife is probably to have the same steel as the orange version but be $90 cheaper. It kinda makes sense if you don’t need or want the high visibility and can save the money.

I think your missing the point, if they change the design so much that its original. they give it a different name. it looks like ur just chasing the new.
I think its a good thing that they keep the popular and useful designs similar as knives get lost, break and are damaged. its good that a design you are happy with is still there with minor tweaks to the design. Doing this will keep the knife available for those who are yet to buy the knife

I think you are right. There is no reason to make a knife look different and charge customers $250 more because of look different. Quality is the same and knife is the same knife. Why is that?

I find to be a very nice bohning knife... Not really a field knife running into bone and dirt....
However, on a cutting board, it excels nicely and will hold an edge longer than 90% of everything out there. (Exceptions being Hap40, and customs in high speed high alloy steels)
I like it, but I don't necessarily need it. I have some nice traditional Japanese pattern knives, i.e. a Gyuto in Hap40, a bunka in Aogami Super and others. I'd probably just go with a beater for $50 or a shorter and stouter blade for field use.
I do like their factory "Select Edge" technology... A 14° per side, 28° inclusive bevel and the thinner BTE thickness, it does cut very well, but I believe it's better suited for the kitchen than the field.

This would be a perfect self defense knife.
That 14 degree bevel and traditional Japanese tanto point is a huge selling point for me.
This knife would be able to get crazy sharp if sharpened properly.
However, I would be carving up "street meat" not butcher meat when the SHTF.
Wish it had an OD green sheath instead of midlife crisis orange though. 😆

it's just their marketing dept testing the waters to see how much they can rip people off. You see a minor change to the knife and a MASSIVE price increase. No one buys it. So they're like ok, lets make another small change to the knife and lower the price just a bit, but still keep it overpriced and see if that works.
I really really want a benchmade station knife but in the config i want it with cpm 154 steel, dlc coatings and handle options, it's almost $430. Fuck that shit man. You could get a custom knife made out of fucking magnacut for that kind of money.
I love the fact that benchmade is offering the ability to choose certain options to spec out the knife but like with every big company, there's tons of bean counters just trying to rip you off.

In agreement here. Not just Benchmade. I don't understand the compulsion to churn something out just for the sake of churning. I guess people have to justify their salaries? 🤔 I'm down with the Osborne 940 and some bugout variants. And if they remade the Adamas the way it should be, instead of with the limpy-limpy detent like on the last one I handled, I could be down with that too. Dear Benchmade: TRY HARDER.

    • @cliffbunyea8416
      @cliffbunyea8416 2 роки тому

I'm looking to buy a boning knife soon. After years of owning one that served the purpose, I lost it moving. As you said, they go from $15.- to maybe $100.- max. for a lifetime boning knife. Many of those are not made in China but in the US and other non-communist countries. The only thing Benchmade is doing is upping their prices.

  • @danielgoen9452

Looking at this knife as a meat cutter, it's too big to be much good. Especially for deer sized animals. You can buy a really well made F. Dick 5" blade that is actually made to use every day cutting meat for $15. Trust me when I say, for your average home user, this knife will be used by your grandkids some day. I see no reason for this knife to ever be successful

Good points here. I have this knife in S45VN (exactly as in the video) and can attest to its qualities. I've taken it in the bush and it works great as a camping knife, too. There is much good in producing designs that work., and there is a strict limit to designing good tools. They have to do the job, and this one excels. Now, even though I paid US$270 for it, I still think it's too much. I don't believe that any production knife should cost over $200. So, the major criticism here is the price. The knife itself is awesome.

The original Meatcrafter is a great knife. What do they do as an encore? Come out with different steel and handle materials to make it seem more premium and jack up the price 2x. I don't think it's worth it. I don't even think it can be justified as better materials. Maybe the steel is slightly better at holding an edge, maybe. I think the newer "premium" handle materials are pretty, but likely a functional downgrade.

To me Knives in general have gotten borring.. and the need for a knife maker to wow us with twice a year drops like all the Chinese brands do has become too much like the sneaker game. It's not like all the "changes" are substantive. The changes are just superficial but knife fans hoot and holler over scale designs and new wonder steels as if these new knives help them open their Amazon boxes quicker. I got out of the hobby the day I realized I carried my 940 3 weeks straight having 400 other knives to pick from. I could see no reason to carry anything other than the Benchmade. At that point I knew what mattered and the 940 does it all and I was done chasing the new designs every other month.
