I have a few questions : 1) What camera r u using? 2) How do you mount it? 3) How do you get the windows to be so clean/clear? I LOVE your videos. The full flight videos help me sleep at night (ASMR)!
And I have a few answers 😂: 1) I film with iPhones. I have since I started the channel with an iPhone 6. I now use the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro. 2) I hold the camera by hand. Yes, I have a good reason why I don't use a mount. And yes, my arm gets tired. I don't use a mount for two reasons. Half of the airlines you fly on just don't allow them. They don't want anything attached to their planes even if it's just a suction cup. And second, to avoid vibration transfer and warping of the footage. By attaching the camera directly to the window, all of the vibrations from the plane get transferred into the lens of the camera and the footage comes out looking warped and distorted. I am able to hold the camera for so long thanks to 10 years of practice and conditioning. Practice does make perfect as the old saying goes and since the channel is 10 years old this year, I've had a lot of practice. Those are usually everyone's follow up questions so hopefully that covers those haha. 3) I don't always get good clean windows. There's some flights I film that never see the light of day on here because the window was bad. I do the best I can to clean them well before each flight though. I keep a microfiber cloth and a 3oz bottle of window cleaner in my backpack. Hopefully that covers the bases my friend. I'm glad you enjoy the videos! Thanks for watching! Or is tenting if you're falling asleep!
I finished watching Airport 1975 and now, I'm watching your Super-Spectacular takeoff views. Great view of the Washington Monument. My favorite scene in Airport 1975: when Karen Black flew the plane over that 13,000 foot mountain. They said that it was the Wasatch Range, but there's no peak that high there. The Unintas have mountains that big, but they're farther away from SLC. Anyhow, the days are getting short in WA State with the sun setting before 4:45 and rising after 7AM. UA-cam: please stop interrupting Skylite's videos with another one of those STUPID Medicare Advantage ads!! Or another one of those idiotic dental implant ads.
I run an aviation based UA-cam channel that posts every day of the year 😂. Seriously, it is my full time job now. It has been for over 2 years. Before I ran this channel full time I was an aircraft rescue firefighter and airport operations specialist at the Joplin Regional Airport.
They can indeed. In fact, they kind of have to based on where DCA is located. There is a no fly zone over the main portion of Washington D.C. that you can see here in this video, but it starts at the edge of the Potomac River below us. When either arriving DCA to the south or departing to the north, you basically fly right up against the no fly zone, which is illustrated here in this video.
When departing North, SWA crews do a mandatory briefing for the P65 prohibited area including using the FIX page on the FMC to "draw a picture" of it on the MFD. "No matter what happens, turn left"
Well, I think that's debatable haha. DCA is great for its convenience. You can be out the door to the National Mall in like 12 minutes. When you're like me, and you really only go to D.C. to see friends who all live in or right outside the district, DCA is the clear best option so they don't have to come 40 minutes outside the city to pick me or, or I don't have to ride the Metro all the way in. Which, by the way, has only even become an option recently. They each have their positives and negatives, but for convenience, you can't beat DCA. Thanks for watching!
@@abdullah_awan36 well I do have BWI videos on here too. They're slightly older now, but they're uploaded. IAD is an interesting one for me. Because I only really go to D.C. to visit friends it's kind of a hassle to fly to IAD. But I"m sure I'll get through there at some point.
@cool! Ill check out the BWI vids. But like if you ever fly internationally through united for instance United does IAD - ATH on a dreamliner as IAD is a hub for united
Wonderful video of Southwest 737 take off out of DC

@sla31 I admire your dedication. I can't imagine recording full flights, let alone while holding the phone the entire time! Thank you.

How do you manage to fly so frequently?

@sla31 that's amazing!!
Great fly! Does your daughter get used to flying yet?
Yes, she's been on more airplanes now than most other 4 year olds. She's already a pro haha.
I didn't think planes could fly so close to the White House area.

If you'd like a visualization of the White House area and the route pilots must take to avoid it: aeronav.faa.gov/d-tpp/2411/00443NATIONAL.PDF
Yep. as a result DCA has one of the most unique approaches in the US. Sharp right turn right before landing. It's pretty cool.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO you should go to IAD its a better airport

@ All true, but in the future can you please include DCA or BWI in a vid?
