- Besides being an in-depth review, this is also PART 3 of an EQ shootout consisting of 5 parts: Elysia Xfilter 500 vs. SSL Ultraviolet Eq vs. Wes Audio Hyperion vs. Wes Audio Prometheus vs. (2x) API 550A.
The sixth and last video will consist of direct comparions between these EQs and my final verdict. If you are interested in that, please subscribe and hit the notification bell! Thanks!

Great video, I’m starting out with 500 series, have neve tape emulators, gonna get the Hyperion then maybe Prometheus or maag audio eq4 or tk-Lizer 500 next, using these videos as guides thanks
great review. i happen to be looking at all these units so very helpful . cant seem to find the AP 550A review though or your final results video?
A question: I don’t have any Wes Audio devices yet but am strongly considering them. You gave zero for recall on the device. Was that down to lack of detents on the knobs? I ask because I thought it was possible to store and recall two “presets” with those A/B buttons on the front panel (instead of using them as a comparison tool) so there is that recall possibility. If instead you were talking about recall of your settings across multiple projects from one session to another without a DAW saving those settings via the plugin then I can see where you’re coming from. I guess I think of this as a hybrid mixers 500 series gear designed and intended to work with ITB integration.
Love your in depth review and now I’m going to watch the others to see what you thought of them. Very interesting.
edit - I see that at the end you also rounded the score up to 4.5 stars so that probably evened things out as with only two presets it probably would only have scored 0.5-1 for the hardware recall anyway.
"Was that down to lack of detents on the knobs?" - Yes exactly that. These are "endless knobs" without any detents.
"I ask because I thought it was possible to store and recall two “presets” with those A/B buttons on the front panel". Right, but recall for me means being able to dial in the EXACT SAME settings even many months later, and that is so much easier if you have dented knobs (or a plugin like on this one ;-).
The Hyperion is a GREAT Eq, but to truly reach it's full potential you have to use the plugin imho.
@@MadebyMiike - Thanks for the reply Miike. I’ve contacted a local retailer who carries Wes Audio. Think I will give them a shot. For what I do, on paper the Wes gear sounds ideal. Need to actually get some in and try it next.
@@riloh58 That's great, let us know what you think when you have tested them!
Are you going to finish the series ???
Hi, I suppose at the current price point of the SSL it should be a no brainer ( unless one needs the recall) was the SSL already 499$ when you made this video ? thanks!
No, it was 1200 USD!!! 499 is a steal!
Are you going to finish the series
I really like this series, did you ever make the other videos? I was looking for your thoughts on all of the EQs but I don't see it on your channel
Hi! I might continue and finish the series in a couple of weeks! Was quite busy with other stuff lately (Life finds a way). Definitely stay tuned!
I need to know who that singer is?
can i use multiple HYPERION in one mix?
Ill hope that you can use multiple instances in one project , but just one plugin will be active i guess. You can print one and reactivate the plugin to tweak it and print it again if necessary.
do you use it when you tracking also?
You defintely can! Although I would suggest getting the source (mic, instrument/singer) as clean as possible first.
