      If one can never be too young to appreciate British classical humour, then it ought to be the case that your daughter also appreciated and adored this sketch when she was 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1, 11 months, 10 months, and so on down to 1 month, 3 weeks, 2 weeks, 1 week, 6 days, down to 1 day old, down to 1 minute old. Or is it the case that she only began to adore and appreciate it when she was 8 years old? In that case how can you say that you're never too young to do so? If you really are never too young to do so, then she should have been appreciating and adoring it since she was born.

      @John-yf7iy 8 років тому +15

      Huh? Shouldn't it be "bolted" to its perch, not "bolton" to its perch? How can something be bolton to something? You mean "bolted" to its perch, not "bolton". What on Earth is "bolton to its perch"?? That's neither a pun, nor a palindrome, nor any other recognised wordplay. If the parrot was flying quickly to Ipswich, then you could say that "it's boltin' to Ipswich", which would be a pun. But "bolton to its perch" is meaningless. Or, if the parrot was moving quickly to its perch, then you might say "it's boltin' to its perch". BTW its = belonging to it. It's = it is.

    For those who wonder:
    I used to live 100 yards away from Michael Palin.s house. He is a very humble man, he is originally from Sheffield never study at a private school,has 3 children, all of them attended a public school,
    Sir Michael Palin sadly lost his wife recently,
    He lives in the Gospel Oak NW3 area in the North part of London, and his house is surrounded by social houses (Camden Council)
    He is the Britain.s most humble and loving gentleman!

    -"Look my lad, I know a dead parrot when I see one, and I'm looking at one right now."
    -"The plumage don't enter into it. It's stone dead."
    -"Alright then. If it's restin', I'll wake it up. HELLO POLLY!!! I GOT A NICE CUTTLEFISH FOR YOU WHEN YOU WAKE UP POLLY PARROT!!!" ... "HELLO POLLY!!! POLLY!!! (whack whack whack) POLLY PARROT WAKE UP!!! (whack whack) POLLY!" (resigned throw, parrot thuds onto ground) "Now that's what I'd call a dead parrot."
    -"That parrot is defenitely deceased."
    -"... Look, matey. This parrot wouldnt 'foom' if I put 4000 volts through it. It's bleedin' demised."
    -"It's not! It's-it's pining!"
    -"It's not pining, it's passed on! This parrot is no MORE! It has ceased to be! It's expired and gone to meet its maker! This, is a late parrot! It's a stiff! Bereft of life, it rests in peace; if you hadn't nailed it to the perch it would be pushing up the daisies! It's rolled down the curtain and joined the choir invisible! This! Is an ex! Parrot!"
    -"... Well I better replace it then."
    thats 18 different ways of expressing that that parrot is dead. blue in the mouth indeed.

    • @ishmaelforester9825
      @ishmaelforester9825 6 років тому

      People think this because they don't know the tradition of comedy. They are kind of hypnotised by the television because Monty Python were one of the first and greatest set of comics to appear on it. But this sort of comedy is ancient and universal. Apart from the trippy seventies affectation which isn't particularly funny.

    • @ishmaelforester9825
      @ishmaelforester9825 6 років тому

      Peoples do not have different senses of humour, generally speaking. Humour exists, it is based in tragic irony - laughter itself - it has fundamental laws. You either have good comics and people who appreciate them or not.

    • @namsallison2072
      @namsallison2072 6 років тому +2

      Can't say I agree. There are many types of sense of humor. From the disgusting sense of humor of young children from natural body functions, adult jokes which delight many men, physical humor from pain and injury, humor of when something is just completely 'out there', dry humor, puns, jokes, etc. Different things make different people laugh. I find dry humor to be my cup of tea, but I know many people who never find dry humor funny and prefer things that are more obviously jokes. There is very little I find funny about physical humor, but I have family who yuk it up when watching Britain's Funniest Home Videos. Many examples of different senses of humor exist. What works for one might not work for another.

    • @ishmaelforester9825
      @ishmaelforester9825 6 років тому +1

      You are right. I spoke too generally and strongly in my original comments. It is a matter of taste, context, nuance and degree etc whether laughter is effectively invoked in one case or another. But if you look into what makes all those types of humour funny per se, you will find it is basically the same innate human tendency and trait, only indefinitely differing manifestations. It is always a kind of sudden juxtaposition of expectation and surprise. If you study comedy and humour deeply, that is what you find. I suppose that is a platitude really.

    • @ishmaelforester9825
      @ishmaelforester9825 6 років тому +2

      Apparently humour comes increasingly with the self-reflective faculty. A few other animals seem to enjoy some humour but we revel in it and sing. There is a kind of uncontrollable delight whenever the surprising absurdity of our situation is immediately brought to our attention, though it effects different people in different ways. Human beings love to laugh and arguably it is our characteristic sound, like the neigh of a horse or something.
