The world famous Dead Parrot sketch, here, in it's entirety!
I'm slowly uploading the entire Flying Circus series... Got any requests?
Never knew there were so many ways to describe a dead parrot. And so eloquent, too! "This is a LATE PARROT!" XD
Ex-parrot,
THIS PARROT IS NO MORE
Parrotn't
This parrot has checked out for good!
“This parrot has ceased to be!!!” is my favorite.
'Pinin' for the fjords'
Best line in any sketch ever for sheer ridiculousness.
1:40
top tier euphemism for death
Any sketch ever?
That is an AWFUL lot of sketches.
Perhaps you should change it to '...any sketch I have heard/seen for...'.

@@McRocket have you ever heard of exaggeration?
"It's not paining, It has passed on!
This parrot is no more!
It has ceased to be!
It's expired and gone to meet its maker!
This is a late parrot!
It's a stiff, bereft of life! It's rests in peace!
If you hadn't nailed him to the perch he'd be pushing up the daisies!
It has run down the curtain and joined the choir invisible!!
THIS IS AN EX-PARROT!!"
Beautiful, just fucking beautiful!
Archie Manalang Well, he's...he's, ah...probably pining for the fjords.
+Kendra Marybeth Davenport Pining for the fjords? What kind of talk is that?
PhoenixPrincess10 The Norwegian Blue prefers keepin' on it's back! Remarkable bird, id'nit, squire? Lovely plumage!

Charles Philip Trash if you ever sell me a dead parrot you wont have a job never mind lunch!
John's voice just makes this sketch even more hilarious.
And his choice of clothing, hair style, height, lack of geographical awareness, pretty much everything really.
Saw him in Columbus, Ohio almost 2 years ago :)
@@WilliamMc91 you didn't!
@@iancurtis1152 yeah hahahaha hair voice and that face he's pulling!

Ancient comment
I am ashamed to admit that I am a norwegian...
who did not realize until now that there are no parrots in Norway...
I'm a Norwegian too - and if there's anything I'm ashamed of it's that we have too many parrots living here in our country.
+Tom Roger Lilleby but they sleep all the days right...?
+ Tom Roger Lilleby Yes but they are dead parrots, they are no longer among the living and are therefore ex-parrots!
You're right; problem is they run the country!
Lord Geezmo the joke was because an African grey parrot was a common species of parrot to own in the uk in the 70s.
"Hello Miss."
"What do you mean, 'Miss'?"
"I'm sorry, I have a cold."
Well done you quoted the video
+Kevin Lebby Underappreciated joke.
+Charles Philip Trash Thank you! Very underappreciated.
That's just brilliant....hahahahah
I think he said "complaint" than "cold"
I remember learning many English euphemisms for "dead" from this sketch... Joined the choir invisible, pushing up daisies, gone to see its maker etc. But my absolute favorites are the simple ones: This parrot is NO MORE! This is an EX-parrot!! LOL
I love my Norwegian blue, despite its odd episodes of being stunned, or laying on its side pining for the fjords, it has truly lovely plumage. Remarkable animal.
I tell you why it's DEAD
My 8 year-old daughter adores this sketch. Never too young to appreciate British classical humour!
If one can never be too young to appreciate British classical humour, then it ought to be the case that your daughter also appreciated and adored this sketch when she was 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1, 11 months, 10 months, and so on down to 1 month, 3 weeks, 2 weeks, 1 week, 6 days, down to 1 day old, down to 1 minute old. Or is it the case that she only began to adore and appreciate it when she was 8 years old? In that case how can you say that you're never too young to do so? If you really are never too young to do so, then she should have been appreciating and adoring it since she was born.
or even before she was born. When she was a 9 months fetus, or a 7 months fetus or even a 2 month fetus!
The Lamb On the other hand, you're _really_ never too young to appreciate a naked bod. After all, you swam up and spent 9 months inside of one ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
Adam Conley bro. im sitting here thinking how i was 6-7 watching these VHS’s.. keep it up man, youre doing the lords work

Wow, thanks for wasting everyone's time with that comment.
Favorite Monty Python sketch. This parrot wouldn't voom if you put 4 thousand volts thru it!... THIS PARROT IS NO MORE! IT CEASES TO BE... THIS IS A LATE PARROT!!!
HELLOO PARROT! *bangs parrot on table*
That my fav scene
That my dad and my favorite part (my dad used to watch this in college)
*PETA OPEN UP!!!*

I think he said 'Hello Polly/Polley'.
But I agree... it is hilarious.

We red the script of this in our english-books in Sweden when I was a kid.
That's how good it was.
That’d be a good one.
"He's probably pining for the fjords."
In a reunion live show 2014, instead of saying the parrot has expired and gone to meet it's maker, John Cleese says it has expired and gone to meet dr Chapman... certainly a nice and beautiful line of dedication to their late partner and friend....
The parrot was 'Bolton' to it's perch.
Turns out it was a pun.
Goddamnit.
Huh? Shouldn't it be "bolted" to its perch, not "bolton" to its perch? How can something be bolton to something? You mean "bolted" to its perch, not "bolton". What on Earth is "bolton to its perch"?? That's neither a pun, nor a palindrome, nor any other recognised wordplay. If the parrot was flying quickly to Ipswich, then you could say that "it's boltin' to Ipswich", which would be a pun. But "bolton to its perch" is meaningless. Or, if the parrot was moving quickly to its perch, then you might say "it's boltin' to its perch". BTW its = belonging to it. It's = it is.
She loves me very much :) But not as much as your mother loves me.
'Bolt on' to its perch
Nah, it's actually a town in Manchester England. No gag, just a location.
I once showed this to a group of Chinese English students, using a video on a Chinese site that had Chinese subtitles. When it came to the part where he says 'shagged out', the translators wrote: 'You said he was tired because he'd been having sex'.
Were you selling them opium as well?
@@yytyytghopefully.
Actually when I heard shagged out that's what I assumed haha!
Yeah, when we did the sketch last year we changed that to "worn out".
WAKE UP POLLY PARROT

Isaac Kim No, it didn't. That was you pushing the cage.
Fedora Gamer I did not!
+Isaac Kim Yes you did! Hello, Polly! POLLY! POLLY PARROT, WAKE UP! Polly! Now that's what I call a dead parrot.

THE Greatest and most hilarious Python sketch ever. John Cleese and Michael Palin worked so brilliantly together. And John Cleese' voice was perfect for this masterpiece 🤣🤣
This is the best 5 minutes of comedy ever put to celluloid. Monumental.

Monty’s dead Parrot skit has to be their funniest skit, along with “it’s just a flesh wound” and so many others!
It's not funny at all
@@goblinoide I guess that you don’t appreciate English humor.
Yep, the "Cheese shop" sketch is equally hilarious, featuring the same cast. The way John asks for almost every kind of Cheese in the known Universe, all while keeping a straight face, is a testament to his skills.

Monty Python never gets old.
R.I.P. Graham Chapman
Nah nah he's just resting.
Can you believe that the beginning of the script to this sketch was one of the texts on the A level English lang&lit exam one year?! We literally analysed it when we were doing a past paper earlier today!
FANTASTIC sketch :D
I always lose it when he bangs the parrot on the counter.
michael palin and john cleese are my two favorite pythons. I love all their sketches together, they make a great comedy pair.
mine are Graham and Eric!
A very Monty Python classic!
lopz33 -- "Monty Python" the noun, or "Monty Python" the adjective?
edzzup no it's Monty Python the adverb.
GET ON WITH IT!
Yes get on with it!
That's how you don't assume gender.
"There, it moved." :D
This is an ex parrot.
well better replace it then.
Luke Dearey If you want to get anything done in this country, you have to complain until you go blue in the mouth.
trexlpl sorry gub, we're all out of parrots.
Chiko was here Its just pining
+Chiko was here no it isn't
like how they both keep a straight face!
I took the liberty of examining that parrot, and the only reason it'd been sitting on it's perch was because it was NAILED THERE.
I've seen this skit numerous times, and it still makes me laugh. :)
"That parrot is definitely deceased!"
That is so verbose and superfluous I love it.
"If you hadn't nailed it to the perch it would be pushing up the daisys..It run down the curtain and joined the choir invisible..This is an ex-parrot" This line and "I've got a slug...Does it talk? Well no not really. Then its scarcely a replacement then is it." they are my favourite lines in this sketch I can never stop laughing lol.
"If you want to get anything done in this country, you have to complain till you're blue in the mouth."
All these years later, that's still true.
"Pinin' for the Fjords" such a funny line and such a funny sketch 🤣🤣🤣
I'm honestly surprised at the lack of Monty Python memes these days. TONS of potential for new meme formats.
"This is a late parrot!"
"Pinin for the feilds what kind of talk is that" 😂😂😂😂😂
Best python sketch ever old comedy is better than alot of rubbish now
Yes it is better than you get today ❤❤❤
Woke destroys todays comedy !
I was so happy to be able to meet John in an Icandic Bank commercial we were in, shot at the Walt Disney concert hall in Los Angeles around 2007.
"If you want to get anything done in this country, you've got to complain until you are blue in the mouth"
Blue like an ex-parrot that has ceased to be.
It's pining for the fjords.
It's not pining, it's passed on!
U.V. S. No, no, it's stunned.
One of my favourite Montly Python sketches ever.
I saw this for the first time as a teenager when there were episodes available on our instant watch. The part where he starts yelling into the dead parrot's ear and banging the body on the counter nearly killed me. I laughed so hard my dad came downstairs to watch with me XD
I could add some more..."This parrot is sleeping with the fishes. It's at peace. It's counting the worms. This parrot is caput. It's passed away and is now at rest. This parrot is defunct. It's departed and gone to reward. This parrot has perished. It's an inert parrot! It has kicked the bucket. It's not with us anymore!"
Brilliant! When you think about it, this sketch is reminiscent of One Foot in the Grave, with Cleese as Victor Meldrew...
"What u mean miss?"
Sorry I have a cold".....Brilliant!
you know what I love? there are no troll comments here. only laughter. tx!!!
Okay so I'm watching this and my real Parrot, an umbrella cockatoo was cracking up watching this!
One of the best of Monty Python sketches! Love this one.
Look at Michael Palin's eyes - his character is obviously lying. What a perfect acting!
And apparently he's from Sheffield.
this could be the best piece of comedy ever made
One of the greatest comedic sketches of all time.
THERE HE MOVED
this is so true when a normal scammer tries to sneak out of problems
Monty Python's best sketch! Next was the cheese shop. Incredible talent, well scripted and acted.
No matter how many times I see this sketch, it’s still hilarious.
For those who wonder:
I used to live 100 yards away from Michael Palin.s house. He is a very humble man, he is originally from Sheffield never study at a private school, has 3 children, all of them attended a public school,
Sir Michael Palin sadly lost his wife recently,
He lives in the Gospel Oak NW3 area in the North part of London, and his house is surrounded by social houses (Camden Council)
He is the Britain.s most humble and loving gentleman!
@xgreenjacket I didn't know about his late sisters situation.
Thanks for the information.
@xgreenjacket I didn't know about his late sisters situation.
Thanks for the information.
Maybe he wouldn't appreciate you telling us where he lives.
I love that you can see John Cleese about to break with every "dead parrot" euphemism
my mother and my sister bought a rabbit from a pet shop near us a couple of years ago. it inexplicably died about 3 days later. my mother went back to the shop to tell the guy behind the counter. "What? No you must be mistaken. We don't even sell rabbits."
true story.
AGREED!
Allot of there skits ended like this?
"Police Man" pops up and there's no resolution to the story?
That's absurd?
It makes absolutely no sense?
It is just a total cop out?
>Cop Out...
>COP OUT!!!
It was a play on words. That was the joke my friend ;-)
"They are the music makers,
And they are the dreamers of dreams"
They are The Beatles of Comedy!

"Beautiful plumage, innit?"
So many ways of describing something as dead though lol XD
this one and the argument room are the best

No it isn't!
My absolute favourite sketch with John and Michael, comedy gold duo forever😂😅😹
These days you have to complain until you're blue in the mouth to even get people aware of the issue.
double entendre there, mate - blue in the mouth; Norwegian blue
Left Monty on all day to see if i could teach my parrot some funny jokes
Thanks Piers!
this skit is amongst the top 5 skits.

This is the best rendition of this sketch. the versions from "And Now For Something Completely Different" and that was performed live are weaker in timing etc than this.
I've heard an audio-only live version of this sketch, and a prop failure sent the crowd into hysterics. I think the head flew off when John was banging the parrot on the bench. I can't remember the next comment :P
This sketch is what got me interested in Monty Python in the first place. So, to me, this sketch is the one I call "The Sketch That Started It All"

i had to act this out for theatre
honestly was so fun to do
Just been to Notlob, it wasn't nearly as entertaining as this
"Pining for the fjords" actually makes more sense when you remember it's a Norwegian parrot.
I know good comedy when I see it and I'm looking at it right now.
They missed a joke there. When John said it's irrelevant, the station assistant should have said, "No, it's a parrot."

Proof of great comedy: it stands the test of time. I laughed so hard the first time I saw this sketch and over thirty years later, here I am still laughing just as hard. Thanks for sharing! Those 101 "unlikers" must be a pretty sad (clueless) bunch in my opinion...

You know, I'm thinking we should get Cleese to act as the Moderator for the Presidential Debates.
Imagine ...
Man I wish they still made comedy like this, these guys were geniuses.
the parrot is going to pull a Holy Grail joke and say "I'm not dead yet! I'm getting better!"
They had a very unique sense of humor with this, not like regular British humor, a kind of world of their own.
People think this because they don't know the tradition of comedy. They are kind of hypnotised by the television because Monty Python were one of the first and greatest set of comics to appear on it. But this sort of comedy is ancient and universal. Apart from the trippy seventies affectation which isn't particularly funny.
Peoples do not have different senses of humour, generally speaking. Humour exists, it is based in tragic irony - laughter itself - it has fundamental laws. You either have good comics and people who appreciate them or not.
Can't say I agree. There are many types of sense of humor. From the disgusting sense of humor of young children from natural body functions, adult jokes which delight many men, physical humor from pain and injury, humor of when something is just completely 'out there', dry humor, puns, jokes, etc. Different things make different people laugh. I find dry humor to be my cup of tea, but I know many people who never find dry humor funny and prefer things that are more obviously jokes. There is very little I find funny about physical humor, but I have family who yuk it up when watching Britain's Funniest Home Videos. Many examples of different senses of humor exist. What works for one might not work for another.
You are right. I spoke too generally and strongly in my original comments. It is a matter of taste, context, nuance and degree etc whether laughter is effectively invoked in one case or another. But if you look into what makes all those types of humour funny per se, you will find it is basically the same innate human tendency and trait, only indefinitely differing manifestations. It is always a kind of sudden juxtaposition of expectation and surprise. If you study comedy and humour deeply, that is what you find. I suppose that is a platitude really.
Apparently humour comes increasingly with the self-reflective faculty. A few other animals seem to enjoy some humour but we revel in it and sing. There is a kind of uncontrollable delight whenever the surprising absurdity of our situation is immediately brought to our attention, though it effects different people in different ways. Human beings love to laugh and arguably it is our characteristic sound, like the neigh of a horse or something.
Thank you for making this available to all of us!
"It's a pun."
This sketch is right up there with "Who's on First" as one of the funniest comedy routines of all time.
