I have just got the orbi ax 4200 with 2 satellites. It was only $399 compared to $900 for a similar setup with the one featured. Peak speeds are 760mbps over wifi at short range on wifi 6 (with 1.4gbps backhaul and link aggregation).
Speed decreases fairly quickly over range, but not lower than 200 Mbps. Main reason for 3 units rather than 2 was range to backyard, significantly better than our old 4 google wifi point setup. I was able to sell the 4 pack for $150 locally, very easily, as well.
I haven't tested extensively, but in theory, I should be able to get close to 1.4gbps wireless throughput using multiple devices connected to different satellites due to the 2.4gbps backhaul.
What an amazing video!
I'm looking forward to the eero review you are working on!!
Thanks Josh 🙂

Infomercial. Thanks.
I don’t care if netgear had something to do with this video. It’s the BEST router I’ve had in years. Fast, and it has full speeds in my whole home
I used to think that until it randomly kick my devices off the network and won't let them back on until I factory reset it
@@jwill9877 it hasn’t happened to me.
@@ed4797 just wait. It will. Mine didn't start for over a month. But remember this, When you speak to their custom support, don't let them act like this isnt an known issue. Just tell them to cut to the chase.
@@ed4797 you're a Netgear plant. I got home from work 4 hours ago and I'm trying to fix and reconnect the rejected normal everyday devices all night long. Im doing my 8th hard 30/30/30 rest on the router and satellite. My time is central daylight savings time. It's 4:06 am, and I'm about to donkey stop this modem and satellite in the middle of my street and send it back. Your a Futckn plant cosigning on this video. This is a known problem. Just wasn't known soon enough to me
@@jwill9877 had mine for a year and its the best wifi system i’ve owned
So could I hook the satilite up to an Xbox with an Ethernet cable and still have the same WI-FI connection?
Does it have forwarding port trigger for dvr cameras recording so i can see them on my camera app?
Question- if I have crappy internet now, this won’t fix that right? It’s just a router, not it’s own internet service?
Thank you for your video….I ended up purchasing the Orbi brk852 but the 5Ghz and 2.4Ghz is under the same SSID and it makes it difficult for my security cameras…do you know if the guest channel be setup to 2.4? Thank you
This is the only reason why I switched to deco. I needed a dedicated 2.4ghz channel.
I just got the 6000 its coming today from amazon! I really can not wait for it to come. We have been having a lot of issues with slow speeds. We have a gb down and can’t get over 300 mbps. We live in a townhouse right next to apartments. So the router we got from cox keeps having a lot of problems.
Hope it solves the issue for you! Should be a significant improvement over ISP-supplied routers
Yes it did! We are not to a gb down but way better then it was. I plan to buy the nighthawk modem soon With voice. This will be the last thing to fix all of our problems!
So is it like there on wifi or do you need a different company?
Can they be setup in bridge mode and if so, does the meshing work in that configuration?
You cannot run it in bridge mode. I went over my settings and I am pretty sure I didn’t see that option
Wait so does this replace my old WiFi completely or do I connect this to my WiFi and it improves it?
Strange question here, I currently have the RBR 50 and satellite. Here is the question, The soft touch plastic on the RBR 50 literally melts after about 2 years, it becomes very sticky and attracts dust like crazy. My question to you is the RBK850 just matte plastic or the awful Soft touch coating as on the previous models? Thanks
The exterior shell of these routers is a matte plastic, it's not soft touch.
Do the satellites have to be used in mesh mode or can we hard wire them to the LAN?
Yes, it does support connecting them through a wired connection. kb.netgear.com/000051205/What-is-Ethernet-backhaul-and-how-do-I-set-it-up-on-my-Orbi-WiFi-System
I have 53 devices on my network and the Netgear ax6000 is super fast in a 2 story 2600 sq foot house.
Wait so does this replace my old WiFi completely or do I connect this to my WiFi and it improves it?
Any compatibility isssues with macOS?
Ipad air 2020 has 4k 60fps video option. Can i shoot indoor You tube video with it? Then also edit it on ipad?
You could and yes, you can use iMovie to edit videos you shoot on your iPad.
They could have made it one pretty lamp! :P
Is there a mesh system wherein the mesh satellite/s is/are connected to the internet through the incoming ethernet port? In our home we have ethernet ports in a few places, and I believe a satellite connected to the internet through the wire(not a dedicated wireless channel) would be more reliable than the satellite talking to main router wirelessly on a dedicated channel.
Those would be called access points. They don't mesh the network but do what you're wanting with the wired connection.
does one still require a router?
Really enjoyed the video.
I have a fairly large house and want Orbi to cover an outside area as well.
Is there a downside to getting 3 satellites hooked up to the router, all connected by Ethernet? (Other than cost) does the additional satellite slow things down?
Can’t seem to get Netgear to answer this.
it's built for 100 items to connect and he says it's perfect for his setup, (3 items) lol
Where I live I only get 5mb/s. Will orbi mesh increase my speed?
nope
@@SNORKYMEDIA lol okay well I get between 500kb/s to 5mb/s. I know it’s dreadful. But will the orbi make for a more CONSISTENT 5mb/s speed?
@@Anthony-ve7ed yes
I'm positive 6 Gbps (5:11) is not achievable with this unit, specially considering 2.5 Gbps limit on the WAN port and well... the highest speed I've read about with a WiFi 6 router was around 1.5 Gbps
How come you didn’t add any of your views of how good this is, what sort of speeds you get from different locations, what throughout you get and are you able to reach anywhere near the speeds you talk about.
Was just an advert for the product and not a review. Shame
Yeah, the sponsorship part makes it tricky to give any reccomendations but we'll do a follow-up in-depth 6 Months Later review as we continue to use the router. Appreciate the feedback, we're still experimenting with sponsored videos and figuring things out on that front. Let me know if you have any other feedback or ideas on how we can do better. - Josh
If Netgear watches this perhaps they can explain why satellites have only 1Gbps ports? I have a copper network with the support of up to 40Gbps with thick concrete walls. Connecting satellites via WiFi doesn't make sense because of the walls. I was thinking to connect them via copper but what sense does it make to have many gigabytes per second via the WiFi if the connection to the router is limited by 1Gbps ports?! Was this system designed to cover large hangars without any walls? Shouldn't satellites have at least one port that aligns with the WiFi speeds the satellite provides? Are these gigabytes per second just for marketing?
The answer is, they dont care - these are a 'consumer' product.
Wait do we need our own internet provider ? How does it work ?
Yes, you'd need service from an ISP and a modem to plug the router into.
I am hvng trouble at connecting the orbi to Amazon fire stick and Alexa
I was having that problem until I read online that most of those smaller devices around the home such as alexa, cameras and doorbells don't support the WPA3 security protocol so you have to ensure that the Orbi is set to WPA2 if you want them to work. WPA2 is also not necessarily the most secure by today's standards according to the articles.
Sorry stopped paying attention after the disclaimer and just long enough to write this. One thing to have a sponsor of product you are reviewing but also giving approval over what you publish means I can’t trust this is an honest review.
Thanks for the comment. We did an overview and not a full review of this product because of the relationship with Netgear and their sponsorship, but since release we realized people still considered close to being a review. As such, we've stopped doing any more of these kinds of videos going forward. Thanks again for your feedback. - Josh
Nice review ! But the router is missing some key features. It needs USB ports, and parental controls. I replaced my Nighthawk RAXE500 with the ORBI 852 and the ORBI seems like a downgrade/ not enough of an upgrade.
Does this act as it's own internet provider or would I still need to pay for Spectrum?
You would still need to pay for internet service from spectrum
Dang im early!
Good video, still don't see the appeal in "smart wifi"
Who worries about specific wifi consumption apart from a Christian families checking what their kid is doing at night
Turning on/off wifi also barely has use cases and guest wifis were a thing for a long time, but also something most people don't need
.....uhm....they gave you the system for free, gave you money besides and "reviewed" the video before we saw it....and this is totally unbiased !? You'll get more $$$ in follow up videos ...only if you appease them. When will people understand this is how most youtube channels work. Its for the money. Some do it for spare change while some do it to eat. If this guy...or any youtube channel really provide honest reviews and dis the product...no one would sponsor them. The internet is 98% fabricated content, unsubstantiated personal opinion or someone is doing a dance for a sponsor.
I appreciated the fact that he placed those cards on the table. That's being honest and I respect that. However, as a viewer in search of unbiased, undiluted reviews and opinions, it made me immediately realize that I should take every word uttered with a pinch of salt!
