Also, how much math have you used in SWE?

im in my first year of a higher school for programming and marketing in Austria, so i never used math in any job before, but i can imagine using it in my future job

Chances are if you are a software developer, you won't use math a lot (unless you have to deal with business logic that requires it) ... I remember this frustrating a lot of my friends back when I was at university, because they already worked in the field, and felt like math classes were a waste of their time.

So true! Sometimes I think universities use it as some kind of competency test but seems fraught to me since they could just test the cs part better haha

So many people needed to hear this. You can do anything when you believe in yourself and know that imposter syndrome doesn't mean it's impossible.

honestly the one place that math is constantly in your face is definitely computer graphics. everything you write in a shader to make things look pretty is maths, transforms, rotations and scaling for your models, all matrix maths, but you dont need to know how to calculate any of this yourself, just understanding the concepts is more than enough.

Math was one of my weakness and I'm still not good at math, but I did get a job, I had same expectations for being SWE, it's just everyone has different learning style and different learning curve, now I enjoy software development, sure one day will enjoy math too, just gotta find applicable projects for math

What is 12*13 on the fly is the bane of my existence hahaha it's actually the being put on the spot that results in me freezing, when I don't have any external pressure, I'm pretty good at "math" (arithmetic)-AKA, when it doesn't matter perception-wise.

Another great video from you. What you say about math/arithmetic, well I wish someone had said this to me at school. Also - James Clear - I've been a fan of his for a long time. Thanks.

Great video! Just curious what math books you picked up and what subjects you were looking through on the weekends. I think most CS people enjoy a lot of discrete mathematics but I think it can be pretty cool to look into other math subjects too which aren't used as much in CS but are still interesting like analysis or complex variables.

@@luiytheninja3655 yeah lol. i do that a lot too. But one of my friends suggested me to open a single tab while reading documentation and skim through basics of whatever topic pops up in the one you're going through. That way, according to him, you don't lose focus.

I used to say I was just not "built" for math, I still think math sucks ass. But I have had to admit that I dont suck at math, I just dont spend enough time to get good at it. I will clearly never be brilliant and I think the way math is written is still super frustrating, but I can actually do it when I understand the overall logic and dont get stuck on "why" some things just are the way the are.

The only math i like are quantum mechanics/quantum physics here the possibilities are literally endless and is the closest thing to actual magic this world will ever see. After all magic is just science that people don't understand yet

    Annoying know-it-all kid here:
The majority of what you do as a software developer is not writing code on a screen. It's figuring out what underlying problem to solve.
After that you need some Boolean algebra, the rest you find some library for.
If I was to point to one common skill in the best developers out there, it's conflict de-escalation. Trying to make everyone in the company accept your functionality is a lot harder than writing it.

    干底层当然、显然需要math 而且会很难,以及大数据、ai这些更不用说了,干开发则相对没那么难,算法应该是最接近math的开发难点了,更重要的是养成良好的思维习惯,至少要有工科思维的形成
