I was thinking the same but maybe we missed the joke there
it was nerfed after the championship: mana 5->6 this nerf was impactful, not as destructive as the old gods change, taking the combo from 8->9 did drop the impact of the combo dramatically.
Even when Rarren said it live to Roffle he didn't really correct him, now that was probably about him agreeing about it being nerfed.

I always thought that the stupidest thing about 14' world champ was that it was revers conquest (lose with a deck you cant use anymore) and firebat just played the druid and got wild growth 2 games and a turn 1 yeti one game

I've had an idea similar to this for years, 'Hearthstone cards from 2014 (or later) if they came out today', or in essence, 'buff ideas for old cards that never saw play and never got buffed'.
Could be an interesting re-look at old cards, and potential for a lot of videos worth of content. So many old cards that never got some love (including many we dunk on regularly but we rarely actually offer ideas for what they could have been), they deserve some love I think.
there is a high rank hearthstone youtuber called "Flare" that basically does videos like this, his recent one in the series is called "How To Fix The Witchwood" and he showcases interesting reworks/buffs to old obsolete cards, one of them that i thought was really clever was making duskfallen aviana dormant so that you will always benefit from her first and could set up combos ahead of time
One of the biggest changes is that sac pac not only targets friendlies, but J man isn’t minion before it being a hero card so you can’t insta kill the hero
Big fan of this series, at least with the older expansions. Also wanted to ask if the neutral only challenge could make a part 2.

Was it not first to beat all the opponents decks as opposed to first to win with all their decks? Would be curious to see how that would affect the game (though I think the format you guys played is far superior)

Well, Rarran played that priest vs druid terribly. Passing on two was crazy, then he kept not using his cleric properly. I guess because that card isn't in standard anymore and not used to it at this point.

honestly--i wish that this was just talking about. okay, suppose someone from 2024 can go back in time to 2014 hearthstone--were there any concepts or cards we (or ig specifically pro players) undervalued back then? could someone from 2024 beat the best of the best in 2014? (e.g. in SC2, the general consensus is that anybody in the top ~100 would stomp the best of the best in Wings of Liberty days, just because we got so much better at understanding the game vs where we were at launch.
I wish I could go back to this time and take HS more serious and stream. Cause I used to get legend every month and all I did for 2 years was play and watch the game. I was too scared to stream. I also was scared if I try to go pro, I will fail so I never pushed for top 100 Legend finishes at end of every month. I've play card games for little over 20 years and the first 4 years of HS is probably my 2nd favorite card game of all time. Maybe the one I had most fun playing.

I kind of gathered from context that the premise of this vid is 'replay the first hs championship finals - but with modern balance' but the intro didn't really make that clear to me.

I thought the world championship rules were different in the first tournament compared to your video but maybe I'm misremembering? Coulda sworn in Firebats tourney players could keep using a class until it lost?

Idk if it's a symptom of my deck building style but I had to take three or four draw spells including the 2 mana weapons that draw when you attack from the current DH deck cause I'm always at like 9 cards in hand from all the discover, mini, etc. I never want to play CiCigi and risk burning cards off the top. Lol

So, I only played Classic like once when it came out. Did the Classic format include Naxxramas? Because I was VERY confused seeing cards like Webspinner, Shade of Naxxramas, and Undertaker in this video.

You can still play Classic HS (competitive) in the ¨'Twist"' mode, but the downside is that it is only avalaible for like a week or two, every 5-6 month. :(

Well...2 years after the world championship. I wouldn't call it promptly, but hearthstone is getting old enough at this point that maybe you could let it slide.
it was nerfed after the championship: mana 5->6 which was impactful, and dropped the over all lethality of it (most decks were valuing healing, and Warrior started to really pick up steam around GvG which also dropped the impact of Force of Nature Savage Roar.
Damn, this old Hearthstone gameplay is so boring where is the subway surfers and the extreme low cost draw cards?
I am 80% confident the format is ”wrong”. 2014 was played in elimination instead of conquest, so the loser had to change decks, not the winner.
Rarran clearly looked up the opponent's decklist multiple times during the game. Wouldn't be the first time he's cheating...
