Thanks for stopping by the channel everyone! There is a new powertrain available in the 2020 Frontier but I chose to leave that out as it is only available to some buyers in the U.S. and not in certain places like here in Canada. Stay tuned for more as I hope to get the next-gen Frontier and refreshed Colorado together for an updated review as soon as possible!
LOVE our 2018 black midnight edition Nissan Frontier 4x4. Excellent reliability and handles snow and mud like a beast. For the money it has no competition. Very tough little truck.
Get the Nissan. 2 comparisons he did not go over is resale and reliability. I've owned 3 Chevy's and they have been very poor in regards to both. I've also owned 3 nissan products and they have been fantastic, including 2 pathfinders (2005 & 2011). Parhfinders share the same 4WD and frame as the Frontier. I drive 65 round-trip to work daily and that 4WD system is flawless. The ride is great and the cabin is very comfortable (I am 6'4").
David Moran, damn wow! Really dude? Damn you're a rich kid bro! You're saying you own 6 vehicles? Wow! Hey dude I only owns 4 vehicles a 2017 Nissan Frontier Pro4X 4.0L V6 6 speed Manual transmission, mods only Banks Monster Exhaust, Volant Cold Air Intake, Bully Dog GT ECU programmer/tuner and pair of Sumo super springs Springs (Suspension system enhancement) I got 2014 Ford F-150 XLT supercab V8 and just only Flow Master Exhaust. 2007 Mitsubishi Evo IX 6 speed Manual transmission AWD (Heavily Moded, large Turbocharger) but only 968WHP, and my 2019 Kawasaki Ninja ZX-10RR, that's it. And I never owned any pussy cat BMW's or any lambos. My Nissan frontier and my Ford F-150 is my work horse 🐎🐎 everyday, on streets? My Mitsubishi Evo deals with cocky sumbitches and make fun of them. and for Las Vegas speedway track, my Kawasaki Ninja ZX-10RR does the trick.

I beaten the plaid by 15 seconds he's way behind!
You're comparing an apple to a grapefruit. At the end of the day, the ZED-AR 2 is like 50 grand. I've never seen anyone get a woody with the fact that they have a heated steering wheel. The frontier is perfectly set up for people that don't need all of the bells and whistles but have the better offroad compliments without spending too much. That's what sets the frontier pro-4x apart. With the pro-4x, you get better suspension, rear locker and aren't even near as expensive as other fancy trucks. Frontier rules
@joal incontrol I feel the same way I love my steering wheel LOL. Honestly they are not even close. Yes it’s a good deal for somebody who doesn’t care about looks and styling but at the end of the day you would not catch me dead in that truck. No way I would have a grin on my face driving around in that Nissan. After negotiating my truck was only about $40k. I’m sure it’s a good work truck though but definitely not for me. ZR2 all the way. No hate on Nissan I’m sure the 2022 will be very nice. More comparable for sure.
1 year and almost every 4x4 pass in Colorado later, my ZR2 runs and rides like the day I bought it. Zero problems and it does whatever I ask of it. Friends say I beat the hell out of it, but it hasn't complained yet. It just smiles and keeps going.
I picked up a 2017 Frontier in November of 2019 for under 19,000$. I have a crew cab 4x4 pickup with a spray in bedliner, towing package, Dana 44 rear axle, heated seats, and the unique “utilitrack” tie down system all with a super reliable port injected motor and 6 speed manual transmission. The gen2 frontier may not look fancy, but all in all, it’s a proper truck. I’m definitely biased as an owner of one, but there isn’t another truck on the market that can be bought at 2 years old with the same capabilities at that price. I’m also super excited to see the redesign when they reveal it February 4th!
@@user-kk5jy5yg9s no problem, it definitely is a great deal considering what’s happened to used prices this past year. If I tried to by my truck now I’d probably have to pay more for it even with it being older and more miles. I lucked out by buying when I did
One thing Nissan as over zr2 n ford is that the Vehicle has longevity. It may look old but it was built to last up to 100k with the V6 with no problems.. That is what Nissan has. ( reliability)
Bought a 2018 ZR2. Had the the first generation ZR2 S-10 style back in the day. Never got stuck. Love the locking differential in the front and back with the newer model.
The Colorado is one of the lowest rated trucks for reliability. The frontier is one of the highest rated trucks for reliability. Having owned both, I would agree.
I have Nissan Pro-4X (2018) - and its fantastic. I've test drove pretty much all competition (Tacoma TRD Pro, Jeep Glad. Rubicon, Ranger 4X4, and of course ZR2). Out of all, ZR2 came on top - best ride quality, best fuel economy, and of course, the best suspension for off-roading. But I got Nissan (which was #2 on my list) because the dealer here in LA was asking almost $52k before tax and there were 2 other buyers on it that day...it was bought by one of gent that was taking a look that day I visited. I still love my Nissan and it fits my needs perfectly...of course, if the price was right, I would have gone with ZR2 and said the same thing. :D
I currently own a 2018 Pro-4X and I’am super happy with it. However I need more room tocarry my track tires, quick jack, 2200 generator and all the other stuff I need when I take my 2016 GTR BLK ED. on a track day. I’m considering the new Titan or a Ram Rebel. The Titan is winning because is reliable and jas all the room I need.
for the price difference you can do all the mods to the frontier to match and surpass the competition but thats ok you gotta like nissan to know about it, haters gonna hate
Chevy is so innovative and thoughtful with this new Colorado. The hood has struts so that’s it’s easy to keep the hood open while you work on it. All jokes aside, it has lots of features that are impressive. But that Frontier wins all day. Bare bones truck that does what you need.
Good video. If I may, there are a couple of other points: the Colorado has more back seat room, not by a lot but every inch counts in this segment. Also the front seat leg room availability is a lot more in the Colorado and is one of the few vehicles I don't put the seat all the way back like I do in my Nissan. The biggest negative with the Colorado V6 is the transmissions are poor. Many of the 2017-19 had shudder issues (resolved mid '19) but even the 2020s have a weird 1-2 shift when cold for the first shift of the day. ZR2 comes standard with OE spray in bedliner, has available rubber floor matting instead of carpet, and although the Duratracs are not the best tire, they are pretty nicely aggressive. The NIssan does have superior headlights as the Colorados are total crap. You mentioned they will both do the same trails - This version of the Fronty has a 31.6: crawl ratio vs, the 43:1 of the ZR2. For most people this won't be a significant difference, but the off-roader would prefer the ZR2 specs hands down ~especially with the front locker. But the bottom line I think for many buyers is the price as you noted. If you don't need the aggressive offroad features the Fronty is a way better buy - BUT if you don't need these then the comparison should be SV vs. Z71 where, again, it will be price vs. tech and styling. Keep up the content, and nice to here someone say ZedR2 on the net!!
Great point, sadly we never received it here in Canada. They changed their mind because of the pandemic and are waiting to give us the next generation.
Simple - buy the PRO4X and with the money you save get a 2' Lift, serious tires and a shell - Then you WILL have the coolest off road truck and still save a lot of cash!
Have a 2017 4x4 nissan frontier sv flexfuel omg Ive done a few modifications first was a cold air intake with heat sheild first month I got the truck in August 2021, next was a throttle controller, after that 18 wheels a few months later 275 65 R18 Rocky Mountain LT AT, and now I just got a rough country 6 lift installed this all took me a year to get the wheels tires and lift together. Will say Nissan is actually really reliable and parts are super common and not as expensive as my old 2000 ford expedition which I had to work on constantly just to keep it out of limp mode and running right. At first I wanted an F150 they said to try this out it fits my stye and is more affordable I said but its a nissan frontier V6 boy did I have no clue about these trucks being this good I have taken it stock half-way through the back way crown king and didn't disappoint now with the lift I am out to conquer more trails!!!
Great delivery of the information on this review! My first time here and I’m subscribing. Look forward to more. Also, I’m in the market for a mid-size truck and the Frontier is in the running. How do you feel about the ride comfort in these trucks? Is a long drive comfortable or tiring? How’s the seat after a couple hours? Thanks.
Thanks for stopping by the channel Jim. From my experience taking Frontier's on long trips, I was perfectly comfortable however the Colorado does have more room in the front but now that Nissan has a new Frontier on the way, they might take the upper hand with better ride quality but until more information comes out and I get my hands on one I cannot say for sure.
I had a Desert Runner 2 wheel drive and drove anywhere. I did get stuck one time. A shameful day. Got the 2020 pro4x now with B/F all terrains. The sad part now the guvment is shutting down off road areas .
Had a 2015 Frontier and had it in for Warrranty work 3 times in two years after new. Liked to truck but nothing special. First an O2 sensor, then transmission issues. Last item was the computer. Tried to get Nissan to give me new truck or decent trade in value. No luck. Saw a Black ZR2 Deisel in 2019 and had to test drive it. Brought it home the same day. Chevy gave me $2,500.00 more in trade than nissan would. Not one single issue with the ZR2, incredible on and off road drivability. Never driven a truck with such a smooth suspension. Hard to get this truck stuck, with the only locking front and rear axles in the mid size game. I'm not partial to any brand. I like what, in my opinion, is the best truck available by any brand. Hell could even be a Kia if they ever make a truck. The Turbo Deisel has TONS of torque and with a simple chip and tune, it is tuned down for EPA reasons, wakes it up to abother level. Nothing even close in mid size trucks. When another brand steps up to take the ZR2's title I may go that direction then. As for now, it's in a class of it's own.
The chevy is definitely a nicer looking and probably performing truck, but will it hold up for 20 years? You know what your getting with the frontier. Personally I will be getting the frontier . It will be my second new car. First one was a sentra spec v I bought new in 02, and now has 200000 miles but still runs great but I'm hesitant to take long trips and I need something more family friendly. Would like to split my driving between my sentra and new frontier
I'll keep my Nissan. They call it a analog truck. Exactly why I got it. It's got gps and an upgraded stereo. Good for me. I paid 20k cash. It only had about 25 k miles.
Can you jump a Pro4X?? Got 60k km on my 2018 ZR2 multiple jumps no leaking shocks and had to do the rear breaks once a side from that no problems just a bad ass midsize that can take a beating 😎😎
ZR2 hands down love how they drive steer.the ride is better.and as far as going off Road. Frontier hasn't got a Chance. Brake over might be more but for some reason in the field test.zr2 won np..
@@FunkySpunky91 I was checking all over the internet for the best prices I could find. Within 200 miles of me, the best I found was about $33,500 before taxes and fees. I don't think $30k is possible for the Pro-4X. Despite how outdated it is, it's still in very high demand and they sell within days of being unloaded off the truck
@@frontier_etc true true. I've been looking for a truck for about 6 months now daily. I've owned a 2006 King bed 4x2 4 cyl red nissan Frontier and got rid of it a few years back and now wanted the pro 4 x with the new powertrain. i see the cheapest one in a 200 mile radius is 31999. South East
@@FunkySpunky91 that's a good deal. You can try to talk them down another $500 maybe, but I would have loved that price. I'm in the northeast. Some dealers here didn't want to play at all and were sticking to msrp - the factory cashback and nothing else
@@frontier_etc Yea man. That is the feeling i'm getting with Nissan Dealers around my area- no wiggle room. I might wait a little bit longer to see if the price drops a little more
Nissan frontier 10 years no problem, Chevy Colorado 10 years later junk yard. Chevy just dont make reliable trucks anymore. 2015 chevy should not be having electrical issues like the dash board going out but it does. Go with Frontier it will last 20 plus years with minimal maintenance.
In US, crew cab short bed Pro4x starts at 38500. A crew cab zr2 with v6, nav and Bose (not many other options besides diesel and bison) is 45390. That’s the most common spec for zr2s. The price discrepancy is not a 50% premium, at least in the US, it’s a little under 20% or 7k from msrp to msrp. Factor in incentives, which for just cash offers is currently 2k on a frontier and 3k on a Colorado and your price difference drops to 6k usd, or a 15% increase for the ZR2. For that you get a lot more truck and capability. If you’re going to off-road, get the ZR2. If you’re not, get a frontier or better yet, get a used Tacoma for the same price.
You are not demonstration the Nissan Frontier Pro-4X 2022 Edition ...the Tail Gate is now Hydraulic, it has 310 HP and 9 Speed Transmission. LED Lights and Remote Start all Standard !!!!
Hey since this video was released 5 months ago why weren't you using the latest specs for frontiers 20-21. 3.8l V6 which has 310hp, 281 ft lb of and 9 speed transmission.
People that want a off road worthy truck don't care about how the tailgate drops, how the seat adjusts, or if it has apple carplay. This is what the millennials want lol. IMO the Pro4x with a small lift and 32s would be the better choice and cost so much less.

The Nissan, a sleeper truck . But thats what I wanted. Put better tires on it. I did. The money you save , you can add to it's capabilities with it. What do I know. Old man truck .
I’ve got a 2015 Pro4X and I’d never trade it for a Toyota or Chevy. I am going to replace it with a Ranger Raptor when it’s available in Canada though.
Ok I got it. You are biased towards the Zedar 2. Yeah OK. I'd get the Frontier over the Zedar2 any day The Frontier is a truck to own for the long haul The Chevy, not so much
If if you want something luxury you get yourself a goddamn SUV or a car you want luxury in a truck you upgrade your damn radio to something that has Bluetooth boom there's your upgrades or you put some kick ass sound system in it you don't f****** b**** about the fact that it's damn truck
I don't want to start my truck from my phone. The douchebaggery of society. Further, vehicles are not worth a certain dollar value just because a manufacturer says so. There is huge profit built into every vehicle. Salaries, commissions, retirement plans, insurance plans and plenty of profit for everyone involved.
WHY on earth are you reviewing a 2+ yr old Frontier and calling it new? THIS is why so many will come to the forums whining about X Y Z because they saw a new review for a model you can't even purchase new. At least you didn't continue to promote the SMOD failure that was corrected a decade ago, like so many else do, as if it were still a current issue and one isolated to Nissan and not a engineering failure that affected 8 different brands. Nissan has said for quite some time that the Frontier WILL be a '21.
Great question! Here in Canada the Frontier hasn't changed so the old Frontier powertrain to you (if you are based in the U.S.) is still our current one. This happened because of the pandemic so they're waiting to give us the next generation of Frontier. Thanks for stopping by the channel.
The 2020 Frontier got a new engine and trans. And the '21 frontier will be the full-on 3rd gen. This guy "reviewed" a 2 yr old truck that was ALREADY superseded and models available in the showroom.

Nissan Frontier is a legendary icon a safari truck used World wide tough as they come an engine that will go and go i love my Nissan Pro 4 X.
If you want heated steering wheel and cool looking truck buy Chevy if you want better off road capability, reliability, resale value buy frontier
As far as running your truck from a cell phone, we'll. Good luck with that. That's why I got my pro4x for 20k. Cash
You get a thumbs down for calling it a zed r2 and not a zr2 like it actually says on the side of the box.
Totally random.....at first glance you bear resemblance to Murphy in Robocop :D
I’ll take it! Thanks for stopping by and checking out the channel. Lots more robocop reviews coming soon 😁
is the Nissan Pro-4x the upgraded 2022 model ??
Because pandemic? I just drove home this week in a 2020 Frontier Pro-4X.
hey im just curious, how much did you pay for it? im trying to get one for like 30k or less lol
I might wait a little bit longer to see if the price drops a little more
Why the hell would you put off-road lights that low to the ground
Lost me at “zed”
Canadians Say “Zed” For Z instead of “Zee”
I put struts on my Nissan! it's not hard!
Excellent video sir.
Thank you! 😁
Great comparison!
Thanks my friend!
Which truck tows more ?

Thanks for sharing! It’s interesting how different it is from Canada to the US.
You are not demonstration the Nissan Frontier Pro-4X 2022 Edition ...the Tail Gate is now Hydraulic, it has 310 HP and 9 Speed Transmission. LED Lights and Remote Start all Standard !!!!
Why does the nissan have weird square harbor freight tractor lights on it?
This is no comparison
Good review...Clearly Father knows best.
Where do you get a zed r2?? Never heard of zed versions
It’s a Canadian thing same as our ZR2
Hey since this video was released 5 months ago why weren't you using the latest specs for frontiers 20-21. 3.8l V6 which has 310hp, 281 ft lb of and 9 speed transmission.
Great question, that update was only for Americans, we didn’t get any change here in Canada.
People that want a off road worthy truck don't care about how the tailgate drops, how the seat adjusts, or if it has apple carplay. This is what the millennials want lol. IMO the Pro4x with a small lift and 32s would be the better choice and cost so much less.
the front is a grand paw truck the zr2 is for people that still stand up str8
😂 Americans freaking out when Canadians say “Zed” “ur saying it wrong” “its zee not zed”.. That’s how they pronounce it, it’s completely right for their language 🇨🇦 🤙🏽
Bro your videos are amazing
Thanks brother!
The Nissan, a sleeper truck . But thats what I wanted. Put better tires on it. I did. The money you save , you can add to it's capabilities with it. What do I know. Old man truck .
Do the same test when each truck has racked up 250k miles.
I’ve got a 2015 Pro4X and I’d never trade it for a Toyota or Chevy. I am going to replace it with a Ranger Raptor when it’s available in Canada though.
Chevy could not keep up long term with Frontier. Chevy's fuel pump fails before hitting 100,000
The new Frontier actually has 310HP, most HP in this class
I Don't want 310hp! what I want is 350lbs/ft of Torque. Torque is what wins the races, HP only sells and takes money from the people.
Why are you saying “Zet R 2”?
Why the hell did your dad take off the AT tires?
Ok I got it. You are biased towards the Zedar 2.
Yeah OK.
I'd get the Frontier over the Zedar2 any day
The Frontier is a truck to own for the long haul
The Chevy, not so much
Thanks for sharing your opinion! Stay tuned for more content...
The Chevy is a far better looking truck
Isuzu lol
If if you want something luxury you get yourself a goddamn SUV or a car you want luxury in a truck you upgrade your damn radio to something that has Bluetooth boom there's your upgrades or you put some kick ass sound system in it you don't f****** b**** about the fact that it's damn truck
The Frontier is better in every way.
Pro4x Nissan
I watched your every video
The tailgate on the frontier is not heavy.
Cheby's for about 10 years, Nissan Frontier is for about 20 years.
FRONTIER COSTS LESS, lasts longer, more HP at 310HP, better resale
That nissan looks sharp zr2 looks cheap 😳
I like both but would choose the ZR2
You’ve managed to sum up the entire video in once sentence. Well done
The Nissan is a 17 year old car🤔
I love my 2006 Navara, But I wouldn’t buy a new one in 2021 which still is almost the same car..
The 2020 Frontier got a new engine and trans. And the '21 frontier will be the full-on 3rd gen. This guy "reviewed" a 2 yr old truck that was ALREADY superseded and models available in the showroom.
@@f1y7rap It’s still weird😅 In sweden we got a new model in 2015 and the D40 was already old at that time😅
No one drives petrol here tho
Zed R2! Stop it. Sucks to have to lift a tailgate and hood with your arms.
this boy has never lived up north judging by his intro
All options u like we don't need on our trucks, ggz my nissan looks better
Maybe the 2022. Is better frontier
Alberta !!!!!!!
‘BERTA !!!! Just out for a rip eh bud
@@ThomasWarrenYT always
It’s not a zed r 2 🤦♂️
Man buns for all
I’d never buy a Chevy. All pieces of crap.
“Old fashioned” more like stop being so damn lazy…
The 2021 zr2’s face looks worse than the 2020 down. That frontier handles great off road but boy is it DATED!
The 2022 Frontier DESTROYS the old Pro 4X
Haha, most likely. Lets just hope its not like the titan having engine problems all the time. Especially in my case because I've got the 2020 Pro 4x. Had it for a few days and this new 9 speed engine feels amazing.
@@heat3622
What engine problems are you talking about for the Titan? The owners of Titans, that I have spoken with, are pleased with their purchase.
@@travelinman482 A lot of the titan engines are giving out. Mostly from the 2017 models (so ive heard) , my father had the same issues with his titan xd. It had to be in the shop 6 or 7 times before it got to the point where he just traded it in for a normal titan.
@@heat3622
Wait...are you talking about the Cummins 5.0L (industrial) Diesel engine or the 5.6L gas V8?
@@travelinman482 Specifically in our case it was the Diesel that was having major issues. Didn't seem like an isolated case, lots of people were having the same issue. The V8 has been fine since we've gotten it.
That Colorado is a fugly truck!
Stop saying zed r 2 lol your American. Just say z
WTF is zed… must be a Brit
