    This is real talent, real music. It moves you. It brings tears. A lot of today’s music is crap. These so-called “pop stars” can’t sing, can’t write music and don’t play any instruments. They are studio made auto-tuned. Glad I grew up with the greats!!!!

    Sarah Vaughn was a great jazz singer & her career covers over 6 decades starting in the 40's. She won so many awards for her music & performed with many of the greats.

    Great reaction. Jazz is American, came from the African American Community. Such greats as Ella Fitzgerald,Della Reese Sarah Vaughan, Nancy Wilson and of the great Louis Armstrong these are just a few. If you embark on the Jazz experience, you will never turn back.

    This is the music I heard at my mother's knee. Under the ironing board actually. She listened to her favorites while ironing. Billy Holliday, Ella Fitzgerald, Satchmo. Duke Ellington. She'd have loved this Thanks guys.

    Sarah is my favorite singer. I listen to her everyday while I work. Misty is one of her best. No singer today compares. She was supreme.

    Carmen MacRae is another fabulous jazz vocalist from that era --- pure emotion, subtle phrasing, just a touch of a growl.... She's well worth listening to..

    Love your reaction to Sassy! She’s a goddess. I’m a jazz and opera lover for over 40 years…for me, she was the greatest vocalist of the 20th century. Ella Fitzgerald thought so too. I think it was Miles Davies who said that she could do things with her voice that instrumentalists wouldn’t dare trying. Billie, Ella, Nina and Sarah have been my musical “aunties” since I was a toddler…but Sarah holds a very special place in my heart, a little bit more than the others…a very great artist, blessed with a unique instrument. 🥰🥰🥰

    Her nickname was 'Sassy'. Saw her live, way back when at the Quaker City Jazz Festival. She had the crowd in tears when she did "Smoke Gets in Your Eyes". She had a great cross-over hit on AM radio, "Broken Hearted Melody". (Yea, I was around then)

    I was born in '64, and when I was in the 7th grade in 1976, I had a teacher in Junior High in San Francisco who would play her every time we took a test. 10 years later, she was safely my favorite female vocalist of all time....still is. She is one of the greats, and it's nice to see another generation of ears experiencing, and appreciating that voice....it will live forever.

    Sarah was perspiring not because it was hot under those lights, but because she was in the midst of a raging fever and running a high temperature. She felt miserable but trouper as she was she insisted the show must go on.
