To me, this is art. This represents some of the highest achievements of any person ever to live. I mean, that voice. I never tire of Sarah. This is jazz. This is art.
This is real talent, real music. It moves you. It brings tears. A lot of today’s music is crap. These so-called “pop stars” can’t sing, can’t write music and don’t play any instruments. They are studio made auto-tuned. Glad I grew up with the greats!!!!
Sarah Vaughn was a great jazz singer & her career covers over 6 decades starting in the 40's. She won so many awards for her music & performed with many of the greats.
Great reaction. Jazz is American, came from the African American Community. Such greats as Ella Fitzgerald,Della Reese Sarah Vaughan, Nancy Wilson and of the great Louis Armstrong these are just a few. If you embark on the Jazz experience, you will never turn back.
The gold standard in jazz singing...can you imagine what she would have sounded like if she didn't have a cold? Phenomenal my all time favorite singer!
This is the music I heard at my mother's knee. Under the ironing board actually. She listened to her favorites while ironing. Billy Holliday, Ella Fitzgerald, Satchmo. Duke Ellington. She'd have loved this Thanks guys.
Carmen MacRae is another fabulous jazz vocalist from that era --- pure emotion, subtle phrasing, just a touch of a growl.... She's well worth listening to..
And she got even better when she was older. Her tribute album to Sarah Vaughan is simply amazing---as is her tribute album to Thelonious Monk. Oh, and her two live Billie Holiday tribute albums, too!
Love your reaction to Sassy! She’s a goddess. I’m a jazz and opera lover for over 40 years…for me, she was the greatest vocalist of the 20th century. Ella Fitzgerald thought so too. I think it was Miles Davies who said that she could do things with her voice that instrumentalists wouldn’t dare trying. Billie, Ella, Nina and Sarah have been my musical “aunties” since I was a toddler…but Sarah holds a very special place in my heart, a little bit more than the others…a very great artist, blessed with a unique instrument. 🥰🥰🥰
Mz. Sarah Vaughn... Wow!!! The only other person that sings Misty besides Johnny Mathis that understand the dynamics of the emotion.... Truly a Master Class in how to embrace as Song!
Her nickname was 'Sassy'. Saw her live, way back when at the Quaker City Jazz Festival. She had the crowd in tears when she did "Smoke Gets in Your Eyes". She had a great cross-over hit on AM radio, "Broken Hearted Melody". (Yea, I was around then)
The elegance, the dignity and the pure beauty of her voice is something we no longer find in today's music I wish more young people will one day rediscover this kind of hidden gems
I am ecstatic. This was magical. Her voice is life-changing. Thank you for sharing this incredible song and artist. I had tingles running from the top of my head to the tips of my toes. Cheers from Canada
I was born in '64, and when I was in the 7th grade in 1976, I had a teacher in Junior High in San Francisco who would play her every time we took a test. 10 years later, she was safely my favorite female vocalist of all time....still is. She is one of the greats, and it's nice to see another generation of ears experiencing, and appreciating that voice....it will live forever.
One of the great voices of the 20th century! Sarah doesn't get the respect she deserves. You need to listen to the album version recorded back in the 50's with Quincy Jones and Zoot Sims!
I'm so glad you loved my request! It's so important to honor the incredible masters of American music. Yes, Sassy truly is the Divine One! Thanks Dad, for playing her vinyls to the bone while I was a little girl.
This Lady is in a class all her own. This is A very talented Jazz artist. You can listen to this all day……….and never get tired of it. Always Loved Her. Incredible Talent.
Wow you got to the divine Sarah Vaughn! Her phrasing and the way she caressed and worked the notes were amazing. Stay in those 50s to 60s so many more surprises and talent and true artist. Your on a wonderful journey. You’ll love her song “ A Sinner Kissed an Angel, just amazing!
Welcome to the world of Sarah Vaughan! My high school band director introduced me to her singing 30 years ago. She's my favorite vocalist, bar none, regardless of genre or era. Check out her Gershwin album, it's "Divine"
Sarah was perspiring not because it was hot under those lights, but because she was in the midst of a raging fever and running a high temperature. She felt miserable but trouper as she was she insisted the show must go on.
This is pure art at its finest. No auto tune, no earphones, just standing there and singing. The talent, the skill and the artistic ability. This is why I listen to older singers and hell, I am 65!
To me, this is art. This represents some of the highest achievements of any person ever to live. I mean, that voice. I never tire of Sarah. This is jazz. This is art.
Let's do more Sarah, start in on the Billie Holiday, move into the Ella Fitzgerald soon!
Well said! 🙌🏾
"Misty" is not music before your time. "Misty" is timeless. Sarah Vaughan is for the ages. Errol Garner is forever.
Back when vocalists could play their voices like musical instruments. Can't you just hear Sarah's voice as a mellow jazz saxophone?
Exactly!
One of the greatest jazz singers who ever lived!!
She and Ella Fitzgerald.
Sarah Vaughn. Sassy.💖🎼💖
The fact that you never paused the video shows the respect you have for Miss Vaughn.

@@kemitamenophis3221 that's the one!
If we're talking about the same footage, it's in color, and she's older. Guessing it was filmed in the 70s...
New Orleans jazz club😊💝🎉

The greatest voice of the 20th century....She could sing in three octaves....Nobody sings in three octaves.....except Sarah....
If that doesn't literally blow your mind, I don't know what to tell you, because it blew mine 40 years ago and still does today!
And sick. Sarah Vaughn was a gift from God!

Ms. Vaughn sung this song with a cold. What a performance.
Real talent , beautiful voice and just raw... Does not get better than that. She was a legend. xxx
Sarah was one of my father's favorite jazz singers. Her voice is so lovely.
And just think, she had a cold or the flu when she performed this show. What a voice.

She seems so timid and quiet speaking in the beginning, then comes out w that voice 🔥❤🔥❤🔥
Holy COW I forgot how good she was. What a voice
Sarah is my favorite singer. I listen to her everyday while I work. Misty is one of her best. No singer today compares. She was supreme.
Carmen MacRae is another fabulous jazz vocalist from that era --- pure emotion, subtle phrasing, just a touch of a growl.... She's well worth listening to..
I totally agree, one of my favorites! She is burnished gold- she has lived a life- and speaks from experience- you feel it from her☺
And she got even better when she was older. Her tribute album to Sarah Vaughan is simply amazing---as is her tribute album to Thelonious Monk. Oh, and her two live Billie Holiday tribute albums, too!

Totally awesome!! Love Sarah Vaughn. My parents used to play her music all the time. My dad described her as a “song stylist “. ❤❤❤❤
She was often referred to as “The Divine One” no wonder why😊😊❤
"Misty" is a classic song. But you will never think of it the same way after watching Clint Eastwood's movie "Play Misty for Me"! :)
I remember that movie. Pretty scary!
Kind of the precursor to the movie: Fatal Attraction.
Anything by Sarah Vaughan is absolute gold !
The totally incomparable Miss Sarah Vaughn.
One of the great voices of the 20th century! Sarah doesn't get the respect she deserves. You need to listen to the album version recorded back in the 50's with Quincy Jones and Zoot Sims!
You must hear her Live at Mr. Kelley's in Chicago, 1957... the greatest vibrato ever! LOVE MS. VAUGHAN~
Yes she was at the peak of her always-considerable powers on that album and in a wonderful live setting to boot.
