  • In Rene's words - THIS IS (NOT) A PROTEST SONG inspired by my own experience and the experiences of two members of my family. my small way of trying to draw attention to homelessness and DO something about it instead of just walking on by, pretending i don't see...

Whenever I get beside myself and too big for my britches. I listen to this song and humbly ask the Good Lord for peace, patience, and understanding of what his masterful plan for me truly is.

Alex I am not a god believer but I feel the same way. When you are doing ok, not even great but. then you see others who are barely handing in there and its so sad.. there is nothing left to do but help all the people she talks about. Now there are so many we cannot look away. We should and can help. I can relate to one of these stories, makes me cry.

Singing a truth that puts homelessness on such a personal level that it becomes a truth for all of us. Fantastic and moving performance.

I’ve fallen in love with a voice and words today thanks to my Facebook friend Dawn Clement’s share- an American jazz pianist. Rene Marie is an artist by birth- no doubt-. She pulls you into her words and tune. Congratulations.

I’ve played this soulful song many times over the past week, and emailed it to others. I usually see oppression structurally, but this song inspired me also to always carry bills in my billfold and give them eye to eye. Thank you, Rene Marie.

    Stunning.
Haven't heard any of her music since "Vertigo" and am so pleased to be "Re-Introduced" to her talents. Thank you, J. Ozer, for the post. And to Ms Rene,
    Thank you for your perseverance.

I have a female friend who lived almost all in this song. I met her in the steets, i'm still got no clue how to improve her way of life. It's so hard to know you don't have the power to make all the people be as fine as you. This song is not about being better than anyone. It's about to be grateful and merciful. Nobody is perfect, it's not your job to judge other people, it's your job to help others.

Miguel First it's about when a person on the streets or dealing with other demons wants to change. I am speaking from personal experience. The homeless situation, esp in LA is so egregious, so horrendous and no one has a clue as to how to solve it. It just keeps getting worse. All those men out there have mothers who worry and yet it goes on and on. But I'm grateful when I hear someone stopped to help him, to put a little something in his hand. Goodness in people restored.
